In the previous episode, we followed how ₹1000 into the banking system become part of a much larger web of deposits, loans and debt.
Still there was one question that we left unanswered.

Take that same ₹1000. You have borrowed ₹1000 from a bank at 10% interest. You now owe ₹1100.

The bank created the ₹1000 loan. So from where will that extra ₹100 come from.

That sounds like a small question. It Isn’t? Because this is where the story of money turns into a story about debt.

Now in order to earn that extra income, you have limited options, either:

• You work harder and earn that ₹100 from someone else’s pocket. (But now, that person has ₹100 less to pay off their own debts).

• Cheat the system ie. use dishonest measures like committing a robbery or sell lies to get it...

• Take out a new loan just to pay off the interest on the old one and continue the cycle of it.

By following such steps it gradually takes away honesty, contentment and peace as well and you fell directly into the WHIRLPOOL!!

You take a new loan to cover yesterday’s interest. But that new loan carries its own interest, which will require an even larger loan tomorrow. Before you know it, you are drowning in debt, paddling faster and faster just to stay in the same place.

This isn’t just a personal finance problem; it affects the entire world.

Because banks create only the principal and never the interest, there is always more debt in the world than there is money to pay it off.

It’s like an endless game of musical chairs,
as long as new loans keep being created, money keeps moving, and the music keeps playing. But the moment lending slows down, someone and somewhere, is mathematically guaranteed to go broke.

THE LEVER THAT MOVES THE MARKET

Now, zoom out from a single borrower to the entire economy.

We already came by the term repo rate from the last episode. In simple terms, it is the rate at which commercial banks can obtain short term funds from the Reserve Bank against eligible securities.

Pull that lever one way, and the whole economy booms. Push it the other way, and it crashes. Here is how the cycle plays out:

When the central bank lowers the repo rate,

• Borrowing becomes dirt cheap for banks.

• Banks shower the public with low interest loans, credit cards, and business schemes.

• Cash floods the streets, people spend aggressively, and businesses expand.

But there is a catch? With so much money chasing the same goods, prices surge triggering inflation.

To kill the inflation it helped create, the central bank pulls the lever back up (increases the repo rate),

• Borrowing becomes expensive.

• Banks hike their interest rates; your monthly EMIs jump.

• People stop spending, companies freeze hiring, and cash vanishes from circulation.

The result? A recession. Businesses fail, unemployment spikes, and families struggle just to keep up with loan payments.

Now this is where things get interesting… Things gets darker here, during these crashes, which was deliberately done, deep pocketed elites and powerful financial institutions like the illuminati sweep in with massive cash reserves, buying up valuable real estate, companies, and assets for pennies on the dollar… while ordinary citizens bear the cost through debt, bankruptcy, and despair.

The thing that we have to agree upon is that the central bank prints several times more currency than the loans given in the country, while loans themselves are many times larger than the amount of money available in circulation. If that is the case, the question becomes unavoidable:

If there isn't enough money in circulation to match the loans already created, where will the money for the interest come from?

That question takes us straight into the history of how modern money was born.

WHEN BANKING BECAME POWER

Let’s travel back to 1677, when the marriage of William III of France took place with the Britain’s prince Mary with the help of wealthy moneylenders. Before long, William rose to the throne as King of England.

Soon after, a massive war erupted between England and France, and the Crown’s vaults ran completely dry. Desperate to fund the war, King William turned to a syndicate of private bankers for a massive loan of £1.2 million.

The bankers agreed, but the conditions they demanded changed the world forever.

Under the Grand deal of 1684, “mother” of central banks was born— The Bank of England. The Conditions of this brand new institutions were extraordinary:

• The power to print English money was taken away from the government and handed entirely to the private moneylenders. (The Bank of England)

• The government could no longer issue its own currency, it had to borrow every single pound from this private bank at an 8% annual interest rate.

• To pay that interest, the King agreed to extract taxes directly from the citizens of the Country.

Think about the sheer power created in that single moment.

The institution that controls the money therefore gains influence not merely over borrowers, but over the government itself.

As this new model of banking took root, an influential figure stepped onto the historical stage. Mischievous Amschel Rothschild.

He was considered the undisputed king of banking in his era, he expanded his reach through alliances, including a connection with Adam Weishaupt and the reorganisation of the Illuminati.

Amschel understood that true financial dominion required an international network. He had five sons, and he sent them to different parts across Europe to build an unstoppable financial web. Each son took command of a different country among Europe.

But among the five, one brother would rise to dominate the financial capital of the world.

His name was Nathan Rothschild.

THE WATERLOO GAMBLE

The year was 1815. Europe stood on the edge of a knife as Napoleon went to war against England. Watching every move from the sidelines was a private spy working directly for Nathan Rothschild.

Early in the battle, England looked doomed. As word of a likely defeat filtered back to London, panic gripped the British government and the public.

Then came the sudden twist. Prussia (present day Germany) arrived on the battlefield with unexpected reinforcements, turning the tide and locking in a decisive English victory.

Nathan’s messenger reached him with the news before anyone else in London had a clue. He held the single most valuable asset in the world = exclusive information.

Nathan didn’t celebrate the victory. He turned the news into a financial weapon. He walked onto the floor of the English stock exchange and began aggressively selling off his shares.

Seeing the biggest financier in London dumping his holdings, other traders assumed England had lost the battle. Panic exploded across the floor and everyone rushed to sell before it was too late, and the entire English stock market collapsed.

That was just the beginning of something new.

Working in secret through his agents, Nathan quietly bought back the very shares people were desperately dumping including the shares of the Bank of England itself for pennies on the pound.

When official word finally reached London the next day about the victory of England, the market snapped back in an instant. But by then, it no longer mattered. Nathan had already secured massive holdings at rock bottom prices.

On 20 October 1815, the Rothschild family effectively became the undeclared ruler of England and holding the financial reins of an empire that stretched all the way to India.

The story did not end there.

In 1818, the family brought this exact playbook to France. They bought up vast piles of French government bonds, only to dump them all at once into the market. The sudden flood sent bond prices crashing. With panic spreading and sellers desperate to get out, the family quietly swept back in buying the same bonds back at dirt cheap prices.

France’s entire economy had become a playground in their hands.

The strategy was simple and devastating:

1. Trigger uncertainty and fear.

2. Watch market prices collapse.

3. Scoop up valuable assets for a fraction of their true worth.

From there, the financial empire expanded into oil, diamonds, coal, metals and railways.

The family is also credited in this account with helping the Vatican escape debt, assisting France’s expansion into Africa and helping England purchase the Suez Canal.

The institution had changed from providing loans to influence over the key resources, trade routes, and infrastructure shaping the globe.

THE FAMILY FORTUNE

There is one peak detail on why this family and its financial empire continue to be concentrated.

According to Amschel Rothschild’s will, the family’s wealth was never to be divided. The eldest child would inherit the complete fortune, ensuring that the family’s wealth remained consolidated rather than being scattered among heirs.

It is said that Evelyn de Rothschild was the person occupying that position until his death in 2022, and described him as the world’s only true ruler. There is currently no information about the successor of this mighty throne.

THE WHIRLPOOL DEEPENS

What began with a simple question about ₹100 of interest has now taken us much further than a bank loan.

We have travelled from the borrower to the central bank, from interest to debt, from debt to banking power and from England to the Rothschild financial empire. The story does not end there.

Next we will be moving on to the America when it was still under the rule of British. There would be a banking panic. There would be fear. There would be a secret meeting at Jekyll Island and much more eye opening information….

The story began with a simple question of “Where do you find the money to pay the interest?” which is now transformed into the ultimate question of power:

Who actually gets to create the money in the first place?

There is a 100 rupee note in your wallet. You don’t give a second thought about it. You accept it as ₹100 cuz everyone around you agrees to it as well as accepts it. You can literally use it to buy something, deposit it in a bank or hand it to another person.

But look at it a little differently. The paper is not worth ₹100 neither is the ink used in it! Then what is? and why do we accept it?

Because behind that piece of paper is a promise, a guarantee and a system that gives it value.
And this brings us back to the questions where we left behind in the previous episode:

If money is essentially a promise, who stands behind that promise? and who creates it?

THE ₹100 QUESTION

Look at any Indian currency note and you will find issuing authority, the government's guarantee and also the Governor's signature along with a promise to pay the bearer. Therefore the idea is simple, the paper itself is not valuable, it is valuable because people trust the promise represented by it.

Once upon a time, a paper or receipt represented gold or silver sitting somewhere in a vault/locker. The receipt could circulate because people trusted that they could eventually exchange it for the underlying metal.

But what happens when the metal is no longer required as an underlying m etal?

This is where the term fiat currency enters the story. In simple terms, fiat money is currency that has value simply because the government declares it has value, not because it's backed by gold or any physical commodity. People accept it because they trust in the government and know others will accept it too.

So this raises an interesting question. If gold is no longer an underlying asset, then what is? The book provides a simple answer to it:
A PROMISE!!

FOLLOW THE ₹1,000

Imagine the government needs ₹1000 to run the country.

It goes to the central bank (Reserve Bank) and asks:
Lend us ₹1000. We promise to pay it back later.

This promise which is in a written form, which is also a formal promise to pay back the sum of ₹1000 is Bond.

The Reserve Bank accepts the promise from the government and issues ₹1000. Now, the big idea is this:

• the ₹1000 is not backed by gold or silver.

• It is backed by the government’s promise to repay.

After receiving the amount, the government spends that amount.
It pays salaries, buys things, funds services, and the money moves into the hands of people and businesses.

Many people then put that money into commercial banks. And this is where the old moneylender’s story begins to look surprisingly familiar again. A moneylender could lend only if he already had gold or silver.

The modern Banking system works totally differently. It works mostly with deposits, loans, accounts etc…

ELUCIDATING ₹1,000 ➡️₹10,000

Now this 1000 is deposited in a commercial bank. As soon as it reaches the bank, it triggers a process called the Money Multiplier. The Reserve Bank rules that the commercial bank needs to keep a certain amount of deposits as “Reserves” technically known as CRR (Cash Reserve Ratio) and lend the rest of it.

In our example, let’s keep the CRR as 10%, it can lend out the rest to someone else. When that borrowed money is spent and deposited again, the next bank lends a portion of it out once more. This cycle repeats across the entire banking system, allowing ₹1,000 deposit to become ₹10,000 digitally. Effectively, the banking system "multiplies" the initial money through a chain of loans and deposits.

This only works because when you take a loan, the bank doesn’t hand you physical cash from a vault, it simply types ₹10,000 into your account screen. You get the spending power, and the bank gets your promise to pay it back with interest.

Now something remarkable thing has happened which is worth remembering:

• new digital money in your app

• new debt on your shoulders

The bank hasn't moved existing money, it has created new money backed by your obligation to work and pay it back.

THE BANKING WEB GETS TIGHTER

This thing gets interesting here. After reading till here a question would arise: what happens if everyone walks into the bank tomorrow and asks for their money in physical cash?

The short answer is that the bank would collapse.

This system only works on trust. Banks know from history that not everyone will demand physical cash on the same day. Most people are happy using cards, UPI, and bank transfers. Because physical cash stays untouched most of the time, the bank can safely keep a tiny reserve and lend out the rest.

Fun fact: When everyone panics and rushes to withdraw cash at once, it’s called a bank run.

When the bank types ₹10,000 into your account, it hasn't given you a gift. It has handed you a burden. You must eventually pay back that ₹10,000, plus an extra fee called interest. This triggers a critical shift in how money works:

• First, the government creates money.

• Then, banks turn that money into credit.

• Finally, that credit becomes debt that you must work day and night to pay it off.

If there is no one to monitor this…. the commercial banks keep on creating and lending more and more loans, which eventually end up in high prices of goods (Inflation).

This is where the Reserve Bank steps in and changes the play.

It uses a tool called Open Market Operations. Simply put, the sale of government bonds that is issued by the Central bank to commercial banks as a way of pulling cash back out of the market when the amount of money circulating has increased. With less cash in hand, commercial banks are forced to slow down their lending.

Watch how our original ₹1000 has traveled:

1. It started as a promise from the government.

2. The Reserve Bank used that promise to create the money.

3. The money flowed into the hands of the public, who deposited it in banks.

4. The banks multiplied that deposit into a web of new loans and debts.

5. And finally, the Reserve Bank stepped back in with bonds to pull that money back out.

The money isn’t travelling in a straight line anymore. It is moving through a web.

WHO CONTROLS THE WEB?

There is one final, crucial piece to the puzzle.

What happens if commercial banks want to lend even more money, but their cash reserves are running dry? Whom do they turn to?

They go back to the top of the pyramid: the Reserve Bank.

When a bank needs short term cash, it borrows directly from the central bank, pledging government bonds as security. The fee the central bank charges for this loan is called the Repo Rate.

By simply increasing and decreasing the repo rate, he central bank decides how cheap or expensive it is for banks to get cash. When the central bank makes borrowing cheap for commercial banks, banks make borrowing cheap for you. When it makes it expensive, your loans become expensive too.

Now take a deep breath and add all this up and you come out with an astonishing truth ie. roughly 90% to 95% of the money circulating today is not physical cash at all. It is all ledger money or imaginary currency. Only a tiny 5% to 10% exists as tangible notes and coins issued by the central bank and also gold and silver as underlying is negligible.

Now the argument moves from ‘how money is created’ to ‘who supposedly controls the institutions that create and regulate it.’

The Central Banks in different Countries have different structures. For instance, the Federal Reserve in the United States is a private institution and the Reserve Bank of India is semi governmental. The international powerhouses like the World Bank and the IMF are also the instruments of elite global influence. There is this Illuminati dominance all around you. The government Control is largely for appearance and real control lies somewhere else.

THE QUESTION WE CARRY FORWARD

Let’s trace the loop one last time:

A government makes a promise →that promise becomes money →you deposit it → the bank lends it → digits appear on a screen → and a new debt is born → the central bank influences the flow of money.

Just like that, a simple ₹1,000 has become part of a complicated network of claims, deposits, loans and obligations.

Yet one question remains unanswered.

If all money is created through loans, where does the extra money to pay the interest come from?

Think about it… the bank creates the ₹10000 principal, but demands ₹11000 back. Where does that extra ₹1000 come from if it was never created in the first place?

There’s one thing a bit strange about money!

We use it everyday, yet a handful of people stop to ask what it actually is.

We earn it, save it, borrow it, invest it and spend it. We complain when we don't have enough of it and celebrate when we have more of it. Governments worry about it, businesses depend upon it, and entire economies can rise or fall because of it.

If someone kept a ₹500 note in front of you and asked, “What makes the piece of paper worth ₹500?”

There might be a lot of answers… but its time for questions, perhaps more interesting question that what exactly is money? and who controls it?

That is where are investigation begins….

Before money, there was barter

Imagine a farmer who has wheat and a goldsmith who has a bunch of tools. The farmer needs the tools. The blacksmith needs wheat. So they exchange. That’s barter system. something we learned back in school.
This thing is applicable for a small community with relatively simple needs. But the moment the number of people and the number of things they want to exchange increases, the system becomes slightly complicated.

What if the blacksmith does not want wheat or vice versa? What if he requires clothes instead of wheat? Also, the person who has clothes does not require either wheat or tools….

Eventually, people needed something that everybody would accept in exchange for goods and services. And that’s where gold and silver entered the frame as it was quite durable, divisible and widely accepted. Everything was going smoothly till a problem arose. You see, metals are heavier and you cannot carry it every now and then.

So people began depositing their precious metals with trusted moneylenders and goldsmiths.

And this is where the story takes its first interesting turn.

The receipt Concept

Imagine you own 100 gold coins. You take them to a trusted moneylender and deposit them for safekeeping.

He locks your 100 coins away and gives you a piece of paper confirming that those coins belong to you. You now have:

A receipt for 100 coins and the moneylender has the actual 100 coins

So far, so good.

But then you want to buy something. Instead of going back to the moneylender, collecting your 100 coins and physically handing them to someone else, you simply hand over the receipt.

The person receiving it knows that the receipt represents 100 coins that is sitting safely with the moneylender. The gold doesn’t move. The receipt does.

And if the next person trusts the receipt too, he can use it in another transaction.

Gradually, something remarkable happens.

The physical gold remains in the vault while the claim on that gold begins circulating among people. The distinction may sound small, but it is enormously important.

There is now a difference between wealth itself and the paper representing a claim on that wealth. And once that distinction appears, someone asks a dangerous question:

What if the moneylender need not keep all the gold with himself?

100 → 1,000

Suppose the moneylender has your 100 gold coins safely stored. He notices something else.

People don’t usually come to him at exactly the same time demanding all their gold back. Most of them are quite happy to continue using receipts in their daily day-to-day life.

So the coins remain sitting there. The temptation is obvious. Why leave all that gold idle?

So, some moneylenders keep 10% of gold in the locker and lends the remaining 90% to others at interest.
As we know that people have become accustomed in using receipts rather than physical coins, the moneylender instead of giving the coins, they issue new receipts.

Now, something extraordinary has happened. There may be only 100 actual coins, but receipts representing 1,000 coins might be circulating. It gives a feeling of ponzi scheme. The extra receipts are being issued to the borrowers, however the gold remains exactly where it was and the receipts keep on moving in the economy.

The next question that arises in one’s mind is: why would anybody accept a piece of paper for something that isn’t physically there?

Because they trust the system. If everyone believes that the receipt can ultimately be exchanged for the underlying gold, the receipt has value.

Once that trust disappears, the piece of paper becomes just that….. a piece of paper.

Factually it is correct too. Take the modern money system.

The strange mathematics of the moneylender

There are 100 actual coins but 1000 fake receipts circulating. This shows that 90% of the receipts does not have any physical value as there is no underlying asset backing it up.

Now because this receipts can be used to purchase goods, they can influence what happens in the wider market. Now imagine that the moneylender starts using these newly created receipts to buy goods. Suppose he buys a large portion of the grain available in the market.

There is now less grain available for everyone else. Automatically price of grain rises (Demand > Supply) its basic economics.

And suddenly, the person who deposited the original 100 coins start to feel uncomfortable. His wealth is still represented by those receipts. But the cost of living has increased. He needs additional money. Where does he go?

Back to the moneylender.

And what does he receive?

Another loan.

This time, however, the money comes with something attached.

Interest.

The person who originally deposited his wealth has now become a borrower. And the person holding the original wealth is earning money by lending by the way of Interest. Isn’t this a financial TRAP.

When Money Stops Flowing.

Let’s take the other part of this equation.

Suppose the moneylender decides not to issue more receipts. People have goods to sell. People have needs to fulfill. But they don’t have enough money to buy those goods. So ultimately sales decreases and businesses suffer.

The book describes this as the beginning of a recession.

Now the situation becomes even more interesting. People who desperately need money may be forced to sell their goods cheaply in the open market. And guess what, who will be there to buy it. The moneylender who is cash rich at the moment.

In this type of scenario the moneylender have two kinds of power:

• He can expand the supply of money and credit.

• And he can restrict it.

When there is more money in the market, purchasing power increases and eventually the prices of the goods rises.

When money becomes scarce, spending falls, businesses suffer that leads to recession.

Finally, the public becomes desperate in need of money and the goods are sold cheaply with person with money can acquire those goods.

Conclusion: “People of every class will continue to be looted, but these people like moneylenders will continue becoming rich.”

Whether one accepts the entire argument or not, the underlying question is difficult to ignore:
If someone has significant influence over the supply and flow of money, how much influence can that give them over everyone else?

Modern Financial System

Today, when you think about money, you probably imagine notes and coins. But most modern money isn’t physical cash. It exists as deposits in bank accounts. And this is where the story becomes surprisingly relevant to the modern world.

When a commercial bank makes a loan, it generally doesn't take a suitcase of existing banknotes and hand it to the borrower. Instead, it credits the borrower's account with a deposit.

So the modern system is certainly more complicated than the above story. But still there is an intriguing resemblance.

The moneylender had gold in a vault and issued receipts against it.

The modern bank has your financial statements and creates a deposit when it makes a loan.

The physical gold is gone. The paper receipt is gone.

And still we are here dealing with claims, promises, credit and trust.

So what exactly is money?

Perhaps money isn’t really a thing.

Perhaps it is a system of promises.

You have money because somebody else recognises your claim as money.

Your bank balance is useful because you trust that you can use it to buy something.

The shopkeeper accepts it because he trusts that someone else will accept it tomorrow.

The entire system works because billions of people participate in the same agreement.

And that leads us back to the book. There was a quote while i was reading it

“If you want to enslave the world, take control of all the wealth of the world.” — Mayer Amschel Rothschild

The argument is bigger than simply becoming rich.

It is about control.

• If you control someone’s wealth, you influence what they can afford.

• If you control their access to credit, you influence what they can borrow.

• If loan becomes necessary, interest determines the cost of that dependence.

If you can influence the availability of money and credit of an economy, you can easily influence the businesses, investment, employment and prices of goods.

So the next question that follows is

Who actually creates the money that we use? Who controls all the money?

“To understand who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to question.”

This quote makes you stop and think.
History, after all, is full of questions we’ve never been encouraged to ask. Not because the answers are necessarily hidden, but because we’ve grown comfortable with the version we’ve inherited.

In the previous article we learnt how the British rule began, the East India Company arriving as a trading company and then controlling India. After all this, every now and then, a different question emerges. Not the one that denies this all history. One simple question that makes you look from a different angle.

What if we’ve stopped asking questions too early?

A Company... Not a Kingdom

The East India Company wasn’t a king, a parliament or a country. It was a Company!! This single fact changes the way you look at history.

Companies don’t appear out of thin air. They have founders, investors, directors, and people who expect returns on their investments. They exist only to generate profit.

Yet when we discuss the East India Company, we often talk about it as though it were an empire in itself. We remember its empires, trade style, divide and rule strategy too. Rarely do we stop and ask who stood behind it financially or who benefited the most from its extraordinary success.
This, according to the book that I am exploring, is the question history left unfinished.

Imagine telling someone today that a Multinational corporation had its own army, collected taxes, signed treaties with foreign rulers, and governed vast territories. This sounds like a plot of a dystopian novel.

Yet that’s exactly what the East India Company became.

Which naturally leads to another thought.

If a corporation became powerful enough to influence the destiny of an entire civilization, shouldn’t we also be curious about the people behind the corporation?

The Question Nobody Asks

History tends to remember institutions more than the people behind them.

We remember kingdoms, governments, and revolutions, but rarely pause to ask who financed them or who stood to benefit the most.

The book takes that simple observation and stretches it much further. It argues that while generations have blamed the British Empire for India’s colonization, very few have followed the trail beyond the empire itself. If the East India Company was the vehicle, who built it? Who funded it? And if Britain became the face of colonial rule, was it also the highest seat of power?

The book doesn’t ask readers to ignore British rule. It simply invites them to look one layer deeper, and that’s where the story becomes interesting…..

Watching the Wrong Hand

Have you ever watched a magician perform?

The trick rarely depends on speed.

It depends on attention.

The magician encourages you to focus on one hand while the other quietly does the real work. By the time the trick is over, you’re convinced you saw everything, even though you were looking exactly where you were meant to look.

The book uses a similar line of reasoning.

It suggests that governments, monarchies, and empires may function as the visible stage, exactly the part everyone watches. But if all our attention remains fixed on the stage, we may never think to look backstage.

Whether you ultimately agree with that idea or reject it entirely, it’s an interesting way of approaching history. Instead of asking who ruled?, it asks who influenced the rulers?

That’s a very different investigation. And it’s the one we’re about to follow.

And once you start looking backstage, things become considerably more complicated!!

Britain may have ruled India, but Britain itself was only a mask for something much larger. We all agree that the British Government was the one in power and control but, the real ‘mastermind’ remained hidden behind it. It also suggests that the modern democratic Governments are also in the influence of this institution…. I know it’s a very big claim and further we can clear them with arguments that will make you wonder the same…

Over the years, people trying to explain the world’s political and social problems have pointed towards very different suspects. Some have blamed the Vatican. Imagine a group of blind men encountering an elephant for the first time.

A Name We’ve All Heard Before

Even if you’ve never read a book about secret societies, chances are you’ve heard the word Illuminati.
It’s one of those names that seems to appear everywhere from online discussions to conspiracy theories to popular culture to videos, documentaries and endless debates about who supposedly controls the world.

According to what I read and understood, only a relatively small number of people are capable of creating enormous changes across the world, despite billions of people living within the systems they supposedly influence. Now this raises a fascinating question.

If a handful of people really could influence governments, institutions and entire societies, how would such a system be organized?

Who would sit at the top?

Who would answer to whom?

And perhaps most importantly, how could something supposedly so powerful remain hidden for so long? Answer??

The Thirteen Families.!!!

The Thirteen Families

The hierarchy of the organisation begins with 13 extremely powerful families, described as either wholly or partly Jewish. The list includes the Rothschild, Rockefeller, Astor, Bundy, Collins, DuPont, Freeman , Kennedy, Lee Onassis, Reynolds, Russell and Krupp families, along with a royal family that includes the British monarchy.
Please note: this should not be understood as an accusation against Jewish people as a whole. Jewish communities are also the victims of these alleged forces.

The Rothschild family occupies the most central position among these families.

A Pyramid of Power

At the top, according to the book, sits a group it calls the Grand Druid Council.

The claim is that membership is extremely restricted and that other families cannot simply enter this inner circle.

Below it sits another group of 33 people, followed by a third level consisting of approximately 300 extraordinarily wealthy and influential individuals.

The idea is fascinating in its simplicity.

You don’t need millions of people to control a system.

You need a small number of people positioned at the right places.

And if the hierarchy described here were real, its power would come not from numbers but from access to wealth, institutions, governments and influence.

But where did this alleged organisation come from?

For that, the story takes us back to 1776.

On 1st May, 1776, Adam Weishaupt, was the person incharge of reoraginising the Illuminati. He was a University teacher who began recruiting people from the elite into the organisation. People who were chosen believed that they were participating in a secret effort for the greater good, understanding the darker purpose they were allegedly serving.

And then another name enters the story.

Almost Five years later, In 1781, both the organisations ie. Freemasonry and the Illuminati shared similar ambitions on controlling and influencing the world.

There was a major gathering back in 1789 conducted by the freemasonry, which claims that around 3 million people attended. It claims that it provided access to people who could be useful to the organisation’s objectives.

Many people were persuaded, misled or motivated by personal benefit, without understanding the larger agenda they were allegedly helping. Some joined thinking they were helping the society, some saw opportunities and some of them realised much later that they’ve crossed a line they cannot easily uncross.

If a hidden organisation really wanted to expand its influence, it wouldn’t necessarily need to control everyone.

It would need to influence the right people.

As I was reading through the pages of the book titled Illuminati: Vishva Ka Sutradhar, I realized something noteworthy. It’s not the conclusions that is correct or incorrect that grabs your attention, it’s the questions that makes you read more about it.

The kind of questions that refuse to leave your mind once you’ve heard them.
Questions like...

Who really benefits from wars?

Why do financial crises often make the rich richer?

Why do powerful institutions survive while governments come and go?

Why do certain family names seem to appear repeatedly across centuries of banking, politics, industry, and global influence? Is it coincidence? Good fortune? Careful planning? or something else entirely?

Next, we’ll step into the book’s first major claim.
Not that Britain didn’t rule India.

But that perhaps Britain itself wasn’t sitting at the highest seat of power.

If that’s true... then we’ve been asking the wrong question all along and history may have been hiding its biggest mystery in plain sight.

Episode 2: The Empire1 Behind the Empire

What if the rulers we blamed... were following orders too?

In 2003, Parmalat told investors it had a positive net worth of about €2.1 billion.

In reality, it was roughly €11.2 billion in the hole. That is a €13.3 billion gap between the story on paper and the truth.

To put that in perspective, you can think of it as wiping out the entire annual budget of a mid sized country. Or imagine building a huge new airport in a major city and then pretending the cost does not exist in your accounts. funny!

And this was not done by a Wall Street bank or a fancy tech firm.

Parmalat was an Italian dairy and food group. It sold milk, yogurt, cream, and fruit juices across Europe, Latin America, and beyond. The kind of “everyday products” company many people think of as boring, safe, and predictable. That is exactly why its collapse hit so hard and earned it the nickname “Europe’s Enron.”

Let us walk through how an ordinary milk company turned into one of the biggest financial illusions in history, and what you can take away as an investor.

Act 1: A Dairy Empire Built On Debt

On the paper, Parmalat looked like a classic success story. An Italian family business growing into a global food group. New plants, new markets, more products on more shelves. But under the surface, the engine was not milk. It was debt.

Over roughly five years, Parmalat raised at least €7 billion in borrowings to fund its expansion. Think of €7 billion as the kind of money you would need to build several world class hospitals in a capital city, or to fund a large metro rail project. That is how big the borrowing was for a company that sells cartons of milk.

The problem was that the core business was not generating enough cash to comfortably support this level of borrowing. Instead of growth paying for itself, growth was being rented from lenders.

On top of that, hundreds of millions of euros were being siphoned away into entities controlled by the founding Tanzi family. Money that could have reduced debt or built real assets was quietly flowing into related companies.

Act 2: The €13.3 Billion Illusion

Now comes the part where the numbers and the story fully split.

At one point in 2003, Parmalat’s accounts showed something comforting. A positive net worth of around €2.1 billion. That sounds fine. Net worth is simply assets minus liabilities. So to an investor, Parmalat looked safely in the black.

But once investigators later pulled together the pieces that were left out, this is what they found out:

• About €7.9 billion of debt had not been properly reported

• Once you count that and strip out fake or inflated assets, the true net worth was around minus €11.2 billion.

So instead of comfortably positive, Parmalat was deeply insolvent. The difference between the official picture and reality was about €13.3 billion. 🤯 It is like a company claiming it owns a large, profitable industrial park, when in fact the park is heavily mortgaged, half empty and worth far less than the loans attached to it.

So how did Parmalat create this illusion?

They used a mix of familiar tricks:

• Parking loans elsewhere: They shifted Parmalat’s borrowings into other companies they controlled, so it looked like Parmalat itself did not owe the money.

• Pretending assets were worth more: They kept weak or bad assets on the books at high values, instead of admitting they were worth much less.

• Calling money “profit” when it wasn’t: They moved money around through complicated deals and then labeled those movements as “income,” even though the business was not truly earning that profit.

It is like cleaning your house by stuffing everything into the wardrobe. From the outside, the room looks spotless. Open the door, and everything falls on your head. It happens regularly😂

Act 3: Epicurum: The Offshore Fund That “Made” The Profits

Epicurum was an offshore fund that did derivative transactions with Parmalat. Isn’t it surprising that a dairy company is trading in the derivatives market? The details are technical, but the essence is simple and shocking:

• Parmalat’s reported pretax earnings for the first half of 2003 were about €119.9 million

• More than that amount came from gains on its dealings with Epicurum

In other words, if you removed the Epicurum transactions, Parmalat would not have shown a profit for that period. The money from this obscure offshore relationship was not a side note. It was the whole show.

Imagine a dairy company where almost all the profit suddenly comes not from milk or yogurt, but from a complicated financial bet with a fund in a far off jurisdiction. It is like a bakery that tells you business is booming, but then you find out all the “profit” came from a one time lottery ticket, not from actually selling bread.

There was another problem. These Epicurum gains were not clearly highlighted in the initial earnings release. You had to dig deeper to see how important they were.

Then the auditor stepped in.

A new auditor, Deloitte, reviewed the half‑year report and refused to sign off on the Epicurum related gains. That is the accounting equivalent of a doctor refusing to sign your health certificate after seeing your test results. At this point, a company that really cares about credibility would slow down, explain everything clearly and work with the auditor. Parmalat did something very different. Over just three days, it issued four press releases trying to reassure the market and challenge the concerns about Epicurum.

For a careful observer, this was the loudest kind of warning:

• A heavily indebted company

• Profits driven mainly by one complex offshore transaction

• An auditor refusing to sign off

• Management publicly fighting back instead of fully opening the books

That alone should have made investors step away.

Act 4: From Comfort To Collapse

The most painful part of Parmalat’s story is that it did not come out of nowhere. Investors had time to notice that the story and the numbers did not line up:

• A supposedly stable consumer company taking on huge amounts of debt

• Cash generation that did not match the scale of that borrowing

• Money flowing to family‑controlled entities

• Profits suddenly depending on derivative gains with an offshore fund.

Yet many investors stayed. The brand felt familiar. The products were on the shelves. The reported net worth looked fine. It is a bit like watching cracks appear in the walls of a house you grew up in. Because you have memories there, you tell yourself “it will hold,” even as the cracks widen.

Eventually, reality broke through. Parmalat missed debt payments, and the web of hidden obligations and fake strength started to unravel. The result was one of the largest corporate collapses Europe had seen, and shareholders were largely wiped out.

Parmalat’s share price almost halved in a single day and then spiralled toward pennies as the ~€14 billion gap in its accounts became undeniable. For ordinary shareholders, the stock went from a seemingly solid Italian blue chip to almost worthless in a matter of weeks.”

Final Thought

Parmalat turned milk into one of the largest financial mirages in corporate history.
The goal is not to become paranoid about every company you look at. The goal is to build the habit of asking:

• What is really driving this growth?

• Where is the cash actually coming from?

• Who else is sitting in the middle of these transactions?

If you make those questions part of your normal process, scandals like Parmalat stop being distant news stories. They become practice cases that sharpen your judgment every time you read a set of financials.

We’ve all heard that. But in 2000, auto parts giant Delphi proved that sometimes, they can at least wear a very convincing disguise. This is the story of how an auto-parts giant cooked up one of the cleanest, smoothest frauds… and still got caught.
More importantly, it shows why even cash flows, often considered the “gold standard,” can still lie straight to your face.

Inside Delphi

Delphi Corporation began as a division of General Motors, becoming a leader in automotive parts and related products. It was a capital intensive business. Delphi Corporation played a transformative role in automotive component development before separating off from General Motors (GM) in 1999, contributing to many innovations and finally splitting into a technology focused entity.

Delphi had just been separated out of General Motors and needed to show Wall Street that:

• They were a strong, independent operator

• Cash flows were healthy

• Operations could survive a slowing auto cycle

But the problem? Q4 2000 was a disaster for them as the auto demand was falling, Operations were deteriorating leading to negative cashflow from operations (CFO). For a company that made CFO the headline of every earnings release, this was catastrophic. So they improvised.

The $200 Million Magic Trick

In the final days of December 2000, Delphi walked into Bank One and said:

“Hey there, wanna buy $200 million worth of precious metals inventory?”

Basically, They tried to sell car parts materials to a bank.

Bank One obviously said, “Dude, no.”
Banks don’t want to store copper, nickel, and random metal pieces.

But Delphi had a plan.

They structured the deal so that:

• Bank One would “buy” the inventory

• Delphi would “buy it back” a few weeks later

• Bank One would earn a small premium

• Delphi would get cash immediately

Strategically, This was a plain, boring short-term loan with collateral.

But on paper?
Delphi recorded it as:

• ✔️ A “sale”

• ✔️ Operating cash inflow

• ✔️ Boost to revenue

• ✔️ Boost to earnings

Boom. 4th Quarter saved.

The Real Numbers

Here’s what Delphi reported for FY2000:

• CFO: $268 million

• Operating Cash Flow (the metric they created): $1.6 BILLION

But here’s the truth:

• Actual CFO minus the sham transaction: $68 million

• Q4 CFO without the trick: –$158 million

The difference of $1.4 billion was created between actual sales and fake sales.

That wasn’t accounting. That was fan fiction. 😆

Delphi didn’t stop with one trick. They created a flashy, investor-friendly metric called Operating Cash Flow, which sounded like CFO, but wasn’t even close.
Their formula was basically:

Net income + depreciation + vague adjustments – capex + other

That “other” was doing all the heavy lifting.

Investors trusted the name and Management abused the trust of investors.

The Lesson

Retail investors love to say:

“Ignore earnings. Cash flows don’t lie.”

Delphi proves otherwise.

If management can manipulate revenue, they can manipulate operating cash flow too.

All they needed was:

• A repurchase agreement

• A cooperative bank

• An urgent need to save the quarter

• And the confidence that investors wouldn’t check the footnotes

Turns out, many didn’t.

The Red Flags You Should ALWAYS Watch

Here’s what you got to remember and look for:

1. Sudden spike in CFO when business looks weak

2. End of quarter transactions to boost revenue

3. Custom metrics with confusing names

4. Transactions with no economic substance

For this to understand, you need to regularly check the investor presentations and Concalls. Everything is there, you’ve just got to look!
Never stare only at the top line. The real story, good or bad, is often hiding just beneath the surface.

Final Thoughts

Delphi’s scam wasn’t complicated.
It was simple, desperate, and absolutely intentional.

It reminds us that:

• Accounting is storytelling

• Management controls the pen

• And your job as an investor is to read between the lines

Next time someone says “cash flow is king,” remember Delphi. Sometimes, even the king is wearing a disguise.

The Reserve Bank of India isn’t playing with words. In its October Bulletin, the RBI warned that cheap steel imports and dumping from global producers are putting domestic steelmakers “under siege”. And honestly? The data makes us think?

The Flood of Cheap Imports

Let’s talk numbers. India imported 9.5 million tons of finished steel in FY 2024-25, that’s 22% jump from the previous year. That’s not just a blip. In the first half of FY 2025 alone, imports shot up another 10.7%. By September 2025, we were bringing in 0.79 million tons monthly, up from 0.69 million tons in August.​

Where’s all this steel coming from? Nearly 45% arrives from just five countries: South Korea leads the pack at 14.6%, followed by China (9.8%), the US (7.8%), Japan (7.1%), and the UK (6.2%). But here’s the kicker, imports from China, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, and Vietnam have all increased during 2024-25.
The timing couldn’t be worse. India’s steel consumption has been growing at a healthy 12.9% average rate from April 2022 to November 2024. We’re hungry for steel! But instead of domestic mills ramping up to meet that demand, cheap foreign steel is flooding our markets.​

Domestic Mills Are Getting Crushed

While consumption grew at nearly 13%, domestic steel production crawled ahead at just 5% in FY 2025. That gap? It’s being filled by imports.​ The real damage shows up in capacity utilization. For the first time in four years, India’s steel industry capacity utilization is expected to slip below 80% in FY 2025, down from 85% in FY 2024. Think about that, we’re building more capacity (18.2 million tons added in FY 2024, another 15.3 million tons lined up for FY 2025), yet running our existing plants at lower rates.

Why? Because domestic producers can’t compete with the pricing. Hot rolled coil (HRC) is trading at about ₹47,150 per ton, while rebar (TMT) goes for ₹46,500 to ₹47,000 per ton. These are 2020 pandemic level prices!​

The Raw Material Squeeze

Here’s where it gets really painful for Indian mills. While steel prices have collapsed, raw material costs haven’t fallen proportionately. Iron ore sits at ₹4,800-5,000 per ton (a one year low), and coking coal trades near $205 per ton (a one-month low).​ Those are lower than before, sure. But the gap between input costs and selling prices is squeezing margins hard. According to BigMint, mill margins are likely to stay under pressure through the October-December quarter because of these high input costs combined with weak selling prices.​

China’s Export Tsunami

Want to know who’s really driving this crisis? Look at China. In 2024, Chinese steel exports hit an all time record of 110.7 million tons that’s a 22.7% jump from 2023. First quarter 2025? Another 6.3% increase year-on-year, reaching 27.4 million tons.​

Why the export surge? China’s domestic steel consumption fell to a six year low in 2024. Their real estate sector traditionally a massive steel consumer is in prolonged weakness. With overcapacity building at home, Chinese mills are aggressively courting foreign buyers with rock-bottom prices.​ The strategy worked. Chinese steel flooded global markets. And when traditional destinations like the US and EU started erecting barriers, guess where that steel got redirected? Fast growing markets like India.​
Global overcapacity is expected to hit 50 million tons in 2025, potentially ballooning to over 350 million tons long term. That’s a tsunami of excess steel with nowhere to go except export markets.​

The Global Pushback

India isn’t alone in feeling the pain. Trade authorities worldwide have opened at least 29 anti-dumping investigations against Chinese steel in the past year which is double the number from the previous three years.​
Vietnam imposed anti-dumping duties of 23.1% to 27.8% on Chinese hot rolled steel in July 2025, effective for five years. South Korea launched investigations. The European Union slapped on tariffs.​ And the US? President Trump doubled Section 232 tariffs on steel imports from 25% to 50% in June 2025. That’s not a typo its’s a 50% tariff wall.​

But here’s the problem with everyone raising barriers simultaneously: it creates a game of hot potato with excess Chinese steel. As one Shanghai trader told Reuters, “no other region can absorb such huge capacity if traditional markets erect barriers”. So where does that redirected steel flow? Toward markets with weaker defenses, like India.​

India’s Policy Response

The government saw this coming. In April 2025, India imposed a provisional safeguard duty of 12% on certain steel products for 200 days. The Steel Ministry is now considering doubling that to 24%.​ According to Sandeep Poundrik, Secretary of the Ministry of Steel, the 12% duty is already showing results. He expects imports in FY 2025-26 could be reduced to half the 9.5 million tons that shipped into the country in FY 2024-25.​

The Ministry held an “Open House” on October 27, 2025, to discuss steel import issues with industry stakeholders. Companies and associations presented concerns about cheap imports and dumping. The government is clearly weighing its options.​ But there’s a balancing act here. Small steel users and manufacturers complain about the adverse impact of safeguard duties that they now face higher costs because domestic producers hiked prices after the protection kicked in. The government wants to shield steelmakers without crushing downstream industries.

What This Means for Indian Steel Companies

For Tata Steel, JSW Steel, and SAIL which are India’s steel giants, this is a profitability crisis. All three have seen their margins squeezed. While they recently raised prices by ₹2,000-3,000 per ton in August 2025, hoping for margin recovery, the fundamental problem remains: cheap imports keep undercutting them.​

Tata Steel reported ₹3,174 crore net profit in FY 2024 on revenues of ₹2,18,543 crore which are decent numbers, but down from stronger years. JSW Steel and SAIL face similar pressures. Stock prices have been volatile.

The sector’s long term expansion plans are now at risk. ICRA notes that the fresh upcoming capacity addition plan of 90-95 million tons per year requiring investments of $45-50 billion could slow down unless earnings improve from current levels.​

The Bigger Picture

Step back and look at the broader context. India is the world’s second largest crude steel producer. We’ve built capacity to 205 million tons per year in FY 2025, with a strategic goal of 300 million tons by 2030-31.​

Per capita steel consumption in India is 104-105 kg, way below the global average of over 219 kg. That means enormous growth potential as urbanization and infrastructure development continue. The government forecasts per capita consumption reaching 155-160 kg by 2030 and 200 kg by 2035.​ So the demand story is solid. India’s steel consumption is expected to grow 9-10% in FY 2026. Infrastructure investment, construction activity, and manufacturing expansion all support that growth.​

But here’s the painful irony: we’re struggling to capture our own growth story. Domestic production isn’t keeping pace because cheap imports are stealing market share.

What Needs to Happen

The RBI’s October Bulletin put it clearly: India needs a “balanced approach” combining policy support, innovation, cost efficiency, and sustainable production practices to enhance competitiveness.​ Policy support means maintaining or strengthening safeguard duties to give domestic mills breathing room. The 12% duty was a start; potentially raising it to 24% makes sense if circumvention is happening.​

But tariffs alone won’t solve this. Indian steelmakers need to drive down costs through operational efficiency. They need to invest in technology and innovation like green steel, specialized products, value added offerings that command premium pricing.

The industry also needs to address its structural challenges. India imports 85% of its coking coal requirements. That’s a massive cost disadvantage. Scrap utilization needs to increase. Carbon intensity needs to come down India’s steel sector currently emits 2.55 tons of CO₂ per ton of crude steel, 38% higher than the global average of 1.85.​

The Road Ahead

Steel prices are expected to remain low in the near term due to high inventories, weak demand, and seasonal factors. The global steel market is projected to see modest recovery with global demand growing just 1.2% in 2025 after contractions in 2024. That’s not enough to absorb the massive overcapacity.​

For investors and industry watchers, the key question is whether Indian steelmakers can weather this storm. The safeguard duties buy some time. Strong domestic demand provides a foundation. But profitability depends on either further protection, significant cost improvements, or global prices stabilizing.

The Ministry of Steel’s October 27 meeting signals the government is actively engaged. More announcements on duties, quality control orders, or other protective measures seem likely.​

For now, India’s steel sector remains under pressure. Domestic producers are fighting cheap imports with one hand tied behind their backs. The next few quarters will determine whether policy measures and operational improvements can turn the tide or whether India’s steel growth story gets written by foreign producers instead of our own mills.

OK! Imagine this. It’s 1999. The internet is booming and the Nasdaq jumps 94% in a single year and tech stocks seem unstoppable. Among those tech companies, there is a company called MicroStrategy (MSTR). The company was founded in 1989 by Michael Saylor and a college friend, the company specialized in enterprise analytics software. It was a Virginia based software company.

The company went public in 1998 at a valuation of just $200 million. Within a year, its stock soared from $20 to $333 per share, giving the company a market value of $25 billion. Saylor’s personal wealth hit $14 billion, making him one of the richest men in America and that too at the age of just 34.

But behind the soaring numbers and flashy headlines, MicroStrategy was quietly bending accounting rules to paint a picture of unstoppable growth. By March 2000, the dream turned into a nightmare that would wipe out 99.5% of the company’s value.

“When Growth Looked Too Good to Be True.”

The late 1990s were a gold rush for tech. Investors threw money at companies with bold visions, and MicroStrategy fit the narrative perfectly.

• Founded: 1989

• IPO: June 1998 at $200M valuation

• Stock growth: $20 to $333 in less than 18 months

• Peak market cap: $25B by early 2000

MicroStrategy positioned itself as a leader in business intelligence software, and Wall Street loved the story. Analysts were bullish, investors piled in, and the company became one of the most celebrated tech names of the dot-com era.
But as growth expectations rose, so did the pressure to meet them.

“The Deals That Went in Circles.”

MicroStrategy’s reported revenue surged but, much of that growth was based on aggressive and false accounting practices.

1. Recognizing Revenue Before Work Was Done
   The company treated a signed contract as revenue, even if the software hadn’t been delivered or the work hadn’t started. This practice made revenue appear higher than it truly was.

2. Boomerang Transactions
   When money flows in both directions from seller to customer and then from customer to seller, we call it a “boomerang” transaction. These transactions looked like sales but often lacked substance.

For example:

• In October 1999, MicroStrategy announced a $52.5M licensing deal with NCR Corporation.

• As part of the deal, MicroStrategy spent $11M on NCR hardware and issued $14M worth of its own stock to NCR.

• Therefore, money and stock moved in a circle, yet the company booked the revenue as if it were organic growth.

Another transaction that feels incorrect:

• In January 2000, MicroStrategy announced a $30M agreement with Exchange Applications.

• One third of that revenue, around $10M was recognized in Q4 1999, even though it had not been earned yet.

On paper, these deals created the appearance of massive momentum. In reality, they were accounting shenanigans designed to keep investors excited.

“The Fall No One Saw Coming.”

For months, analysts and auditors approved on MicroStrategy’s numbers. But in March 2000, Forbes published a story questioning the company’s accounting.

The company’s auditor, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), launched an internal review and did something extraordinary. It withdrew its approval of MicroStrategy’s financial statements. Soon after that, MicroStrategy announced that it would restate three years of financials (1997–1999), turning reported profits into significant losses.

The market reacted instantly.

• March 20, 2000: MicroStrategy’s stock dropped 62% in one day, from $226 to $86.

• By April 2001, shares had fallen to $1.75, a staggering 99.5% drop from its peak.

• The company was forced to execute a 1:10 reverse stock split just to remain listed on the Nasdaq.

Investors who had believed in the company’s growth story saw nearly all their wealth vanish.

“Red Flags You Can’t Afford to Ignore”

1. Follow the cash, not just the headlines.
If a company’s profits are soaring but its cash flow isn’t, be skeptical. Strong revenue should eventually show up in real cash.

2. Look into Related Party Transactions (RPT)
When a company invests in its customers or partners (Related Parties) and then books sales from them, question the substance of those deals.

5. Beware of end of period deals.
If a company pushes contracts to be signed right before a quarter ends, it may be trying to pull future revenue forward. You can find these details in press releases by the company. Real revenue should be recorded when work is done, not when paperwork is signed.

“Because It’s Happening Again.”

Everyone might wonder why, after 25 years, people are still talking about this scandal. The reason is simple: MicroStrategy’s stock has once again climbed above $300 but this time, it’s not because of its software business. The company has reinvented itself as a massive Bitcoin holding vehicle, and its fortunes now rise and fall with crypto prices.

The accounting scandal that once sent its stock crashing from $333 to under $2 is a sharp reminder that hype can blind investors. Back then, people piled in because the numbers looked great, until they weren’t. That collapse wasn’t bad luck. It was the result of aggressive accounting practices and a culture obsessed with hitting quarterly targets.

Final Thought

The market has a short memory, but history doesn’t forget. MicroStrategy’s story isn’t just an old dot-com drama, it’s a reminder of how much leadership matters. A person who once bent the rules to look good in front of Wall Street doesn’t magically change because the narrative has shifted.

A Quick Trip Back to 1978

In 1978, China was a fully communist country. The government controlled everything, from farms to factories. That year, leaders decided to open the door to private businesses while keeping the state in charge of major industries.

Here is what changed:

• Private farms and small businesses were allowed to grow.

• Big industries like banks, energy, and steel remained under government control.

• The government guided the economy but allowed private companies to compete.

This mix of state control and private ownership worked. China became one of the fastest growing economies in history. Economists call this state capitalism. It means companies are privately owned but the government strongly influences their direction through rules, funding, and planning.

China’s GDP growth has outpaced the US since 1978, often hitting double digits, while U.S. growth stayed around 2% to 4%. China’s mix of state control and market reforms fueled its rapid rise, and now the US is adopting similar tools like tariffs and subsidies to stay competitive.

The Shift in the United States

Fast forward to today. The United States, often seen as the symbol of free markets, is moving in a similar direction. The Republican Party led by Donald J Trump, which has long supported low taxes and minimal government involvement, now promotes:

• Tariffs: Taxes on imported goods to protect local businesses.

• Subsidies: Public money to support industries like technology, energy, and manufacturing.

• Industrial planning: Choosing which sectors to support and shape for the future (As we can see it in IT Sector).

Even politicians who used to promote less government involvement now argue for stronger intervention to protect jobs and industries.

Why This Change Is Happening?

I feel that it is driven by two major factors:

1. Income inequality: Many Americans, especially those without college degrees, have seen little or no growth in their income over the last two decades. At the same time, wealth has become concentrated in the hands of a small group of people.

2. Global competition: Countries like China and Russia have been using state led strategies for years. To compete, the US is now adopting similar policies.

3. Supply chain security: The pandemic and global tensions exposed how dependent the US is on other countries for essentials like medicine (India), semiconductors (Taiwan), and raw materials (Rest of the World). Investing in domestic production has become a priority for both security and stability.

4. Technological rivalry: One of the reasons can be industries like artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, and clean energy are now seen as national priorities. Governments around the world are racing to lead these sectors, and the US does not want to fall behind in it.

This is why US is now more open to using government power to shape the economy.

How the Numbers Reveal a Shift in Power?

The shift toward a mixed economy in the U.S. is no longer just talk, the numbers prove it. In 2022, the CHIPS and Science Act alone poured nearly $200 billion into semiconductors to secure 20% of global chip production by 2030, and the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act pledged another $250 billion to tech research. The $1 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is rebuilding roads, power grids, and broadband, while subsidies that hit a record $698 billion in 2020 remain far higher than pre pandemic levels. The government even took a 9.9% stake in Intel with an $11.1 billion investment, something unheard of a decade ago.
On the other hand, China still leans heavily on state control: around 40% of its GDP comes from state owned enterprises (SOE), which also make up about 60% of the country’s market value. Its “Big Fund” for chips alone has raised over $47 billion in its latest phase, and in just 2022, domestic semiconductor firms received roughly $1.75 billion in subsidies. These moves show a clear trend: Washington is stepping in, funding industries, and even buying stakes in companies to compete globally, a strategy long used by China.

Is US Turning into “China, Inc.”?

The United States is not becoming China. The political systems are very different, and the U.S. still relies heavily on private ownership and open markets. But there is a clear move toward a mixed economy, where the government plays a larger role in deciding which industries grow and which ones get support.

We are entering a period of strong economic competition between the two largest economies in the world. Both are using similar strategies to secure growth and power. For citizens, this means paying attention not only to political debates but also to the economic decisions being made behind the scenes.

Final thought

The world’s two biggest economies are starting to look more alike. The U.S. is using more government power, while China is allowing some parts of its market to open up. Policy as the Game Changer

In April 2025, India introduced a 12% safeguard duty on selected flat rolled steel imports from China, Vietnam, and others for 200 days. Even before the duty took effect, the market reacted. The finished steel imports slumped for the month of April 2025 to 0.46 million tons (Mt) from 0.59 Mt indicating a decline of -22.03% in steel imports. Below is the chart to help you visualize it better.

India's steel consumption tells a remarkable growth story. Despite becoming a net importer, domestic demand surged by 11.5% to 152 million tons in 2024-25. The World Steel Association projects India's steel demand will grow by 8.5% in 2025, compared to just 1.2% globally. This growth will be driven by Infrastructure investment, automotive expansion and urbanization. Lakshmi Mittal, who is the executive chairman of ArcelorMittal once said "Hard work certainly goes a long way. These days a lot of people work hard, so you have to make sure you work even harder". India's economy is working harder than ever.

Here are some compelling statistics to make you believe about the growth story:

• India produced 149.4 Mt of crude steel in 2024, maintaining its position as the world's second largest producer.

• Steel capacity reached 205 Mt annually in FY25, up 10% from 186 Mt in 2024

• The country leads global Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) production with a 42.9% market share.

The BIS Quality Squeeze

If the 12% safeguard duty was the first punch, the tightening of BIS quality standards was the knockout blow.

By early 2025, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) had quietly but steadily expanded its Quality Control Orders (QCOs) to cover 151 different steel product categories everything from HRC and CR sheets to alloy and special steels are included in it. This is a systematic expansion aimed at ensuring that every piece of steel coming into India meets domestic quality benchmarks. From June 2025 onward, all steel imports must carry BIS certification. The logic behind this is simple: cheap, low standard imports have been hurting domestic producers like JSW and Tata Steel heavily, especially in flat products like HRC and CR steel. By enforcing BIS norms the government have shut the door on low grade steel supply in the nation.

China, Japan, and South Korea together accounted for over 60% of India’s finished steel imports in FY2025. But after this move by the Government, BigMint, a leading market intelligence firm noted that “uncertainty about the duty led to a significant drop in arrivals from China, Japan and South Korea even before its implementation”.

A Short History of BIS in Steel

BIS quality controls in steel aren’t new. The first QCOs date back to the early 2000s but were not so popular as it covered only construction grade rebar. The real push came after 2020, when the government began expanding QCOs to higher value and specialty steels. Between 2020 and 2023, the number of covered product categories more than doubled. By 2024, this policy gained a mark as part of the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” manufacturing strategy, with a lot of compliance.
India isn’t alone here.

• United States: Uses ASTM and AISI standards alongside strict import documentation to block low grade steel.

• European Union (EU): Enforces CE marking requirements, with similar pre shipment certification rules.

• China: Has its own GB/T standards that foreign producers must meet before exporting to Chinese buyers.

These non tariff barriers are often as effective as duties because they target quality and compliance rather than just price. For India, combining BIS rules with the safeguard duty created a one-two punch (Ek teer se Do Nishana) that reshaped trade flows in months and not years.

Steel Prices

Steel prices in India are right now in a well balanced position, not soaring nor crashing. There are two raw materials that decide the prices of steel:

• Iron Ore: Prices jumped from ₹5,500 in June 24’ to ₹6,440 in May 25’. (Produced domestically in India due to abundant iron ore).

• Coking Coal: International prices dropped to $192/ton in May, near two year low from $330. (Majorly imports from Australia, Canada, Mozambique, USA).

To give a perspective, cheaper coal is good for steel manufacturers and pricier Iron ore squeezes the margin taking away some of their profits. Therefore, may steel manufacturers in India are shifting from traditional method to modern method of green steel manufacturing. Tata Steel have said “they will produce green steel by the end of FY27.”

Globally, steel is in oversupply. China, Japan, and others are pushing exports into the market, which normally would drag prices down here too. But India’s 12% safeguard duty and BIS quality norms have acted like a protective fence, by keeping the steel prices stable.

New Challenges on the Horizon

The safeguard duty may have solved a short term trade issue, but India’s steel sector is facing another challenge. The rule that all steel products must have Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification was a guarantee of quality and trust. It works well for almost all industries. However, in some sectors it is creating real issues. For example, the medical device industry. These manufacturers need special grades of stainless steel that are often only produced in foreign countries and that too in small quantities. Domestic steel manufacturers cannot make them at low cost in such small amount. For foreign suppliers, going through BIS certification for low volume orders is not worth the cost. This could disrupt supply chains and affect the quality of high value, export focused medical devices made in India. It is a reminder that policies made for one purpose can sometimes create problems in another area.

That’s not all there is even a more bigger challenge and that is Climate change.
India is highly coal dependent as over 87% of factories requires coal to extract iron from the ores. Not only that, for all the new factories that are being built, 90% of them are also designed to use coal. This dependence on coal have posed significant challenges from around the world. Among them is the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) which is a carbon tariff on imports with high emissions. While steel exports to the EU are a small share of India’s GDP, they account for 90% of India’s CBAM exposed exports. That is a serious risk to the sector unless India moves quickly towards cleaner "green steel" production, which will be done soon.

Forging India’s Next Steel Chapter

India’s steel journey is gearing up for its most defining phase yet. With demand for steel rising (8.2% in India compared to global average of just 1.8%) India's market remains one of the world's most attractive market. India is also investing in cleaner, smarter, and more competitive steelmaking so that when the time comes to open the gates wider, its producers are stronger than ever. (Green Steel manufacturing by domestic producers like Tata Steel and JSW Steel). India's journey from net steel exporter to importer and then again to exporter shows how quickly global dynamics can shift. The 12% safeguard duty which potentially rising upto 24% represents more than trade policy. It ensures that the world's most populous democracy controls its industrial production.

Andrew Carnegie, the American steel baron, once said "The man who acquires the ability to take full possession of his own mind may take possession of anything else to which he is justly entitled". That’s exactly how India is ensuring that domestic industry also serves national development goals.

The Road Ahead

India's steel story isn't ending it's evolving. The United States is placing steep tariffs on Indian goods. The European Union is tightening its import quotas. Several Asian countries are running anti-dumping duties of their own. With these all challenges too India has fought back and become Net exporter by July 2025.

The question now is whether this safeguard duty will be remembered as a quick fix for a price problem or as the first step in building a steel industry that is self reliant, green, and globally competitive. The answer will depend on the choices Indian steel sector makes in the next few years.

As economist Jeffrey Sachs says, “no great power should be at the mercy of other nations decisions.” This means India must keep building its capacity, its technology, and its sustainability, so that it is strong among the developed nations.

This one stat? It changes everything. Banks in India have finally cleaned up their mess. And I’m talking about years of bad loans and stressed balance sheets. Now, they’re not just surviving but, they’re thriving. And this means more loans for businesses, more money for farmers, and more fuel for growth especially, for MSMEs as they are the ones who keep the real economy running.

When banks are strong, India is strong! Let’s get into it!

First, What Went Wrong? What’s Now Fixed?

For years, Indian banks were stuck with what we call NPAs, or Non Performing Assets. So what are these NPA’s anyways?

That’s a fancy way of saying the bank gave out a loan, and it’s not earning them any money anymore. Basically, if a borrower doesn’t pay interest or repay the loan for over 90 days, the bank stops counting it as “performing” and have to make a provision for the same. Think of it like lending your friend ₹10,000 and realizing three months later that they’re not paying you back. Globally this stuff is called NPL’s or Non Performing Loans. (Usually in the US/EU region). Now imagine hundreds of crores stuck like that across thousands of borrowers. That was the reality for Indian banks.

Now here’s the good part, India’s gross NPA ratio dropped to 2.3% in March 2025, down from over 11% a few years back. That’s a massive change. For comparison, US banks had an NPL ratio of around 1.7%, and China’s stood at 1.5% in 2024. So yes, we’re slightly higher. However, they are called developed and we are developing. So, that makes a huge difference.
This signifies a fundamental improvement in the asset quality of Indian banks. The reduction in NPAs means less capital is locked up, leading to higher Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE). Reduced NPAs also mean minimized provisions to be created which in turn increases the profitability and capital efficiency.

India's banking sector has demonstrated a remarkable recovery in recent years. In 2018, the Gross NPA ratio stood at 11.2 percent, indicating distressed loans. However, by March 2024, this ratio had significantly decreased to an impressive 2.8 percent, marking its lowest level in over a decade.
Banks have finally recovered from the bad-loan storm. And with stronger balance sheets, it increases confidence and capacity for banks to extend new credit.

The "How": Smart Moves by Government and RBI!

So, how did this incredible transformation happen? It wasn't magic, trust me! It was the result of hard work and incredibly smart policies. The government's "4Rs strategy" (Recognition, Resolution, Recapitalization, and Reforms) played a huge role in strengthening our Public Sector Banks. Plus, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) enacted in 2016 was an absolute game changer! It provided a faster, more efficient way to resolve bad loans compared to older, slower laws that used to drag on forever. These reforms helped clear out the mess and rebuild trust in the system.

Banks are now in a position to start lending again, and that’s exactly what’s going on.

As of May 2025:

• Overall bank credit grew 9.8% YoY.

• Industry credit’s share in new lending jumped from 11% to 17% in just one year.

Compare that with a year ago when banks were mostly focused on giving out personal loans and were hesitant to lend to businesses. That’s changed.
More money is going into building factories, funding exports, helping farmers buy better seeds, or letting small businesses upgrade equipment. That’s way more productive than just giving out credit cards or funding quick EMIs.

Who’s Getting the Money Now?

Where are the banks lending out?

1. Agriculture

Farm credit grew 10.4% year-on-year in early 2025. That’s slower than last year’s 20% boom, but still strong. With better monsoons and improved rural incomes, banks feel safer lending to farmers. Agriculture isn’t just about food. It’s about rural demand, tractor sales, FMCG consumption, and fuel. Healthy farm credit keeps that entire ecosystem moving.

2. Retail (Personal Loans, Credit Cards)

Personal loans, credit cards, BNPL Schemes and other retail credit are growing.

• Personal loans are up 13.7% YoY in May 2025 (vs 19.3% last year)

• Unsecured loans (like credit cards) are rising slower, just 7.8% which is down from 28% in 2023.

This is partly due to RBI’s decision to raise caution flags in 2023 on risky retail lending.

3. NBFCs (Non-Banking Financial Companies)

Here’s where things are tight.
Credit to NBFCs grew only 5.7% in March 2025, and actually shrank 0.3% by May 2025. Why? Because the RBI made it more expensive for banks to lend to NBFCs. It’s like putting an extra safety rule in place, if a bank gives money to an NBFC, it now has to keep more backup funds aside and when lending gets costlier for bank they tend to lend less. NBFCs do a lot of lending for home loans, car loans, and small businesses. If they find it harder to get enough funds, it becomes expensive for us to get loans from the NBFC’s

MSMEs: The Real Winners Here

Our Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are absolutely vital for India's economy as it contribute to more than 30% of our GDP and provide employment to over 11 crore people. Banks are pouring credit into them like never before. MSME credit crossed a massive ₹40 trillion in FY25, registering a robust 20% YoY growth. This is a huge leap from the sluggish 5-7% growth seen between 2011 and 2013. Even better, the stress in MSME loans is falling. Loans that were overdue by 90–120 days (those at risk of becoming bad) are now just 1.8% of the MSME loan book which is the lowest in five years. This means more confidence on both sides. Businesses are paying on time. Banks are lending more. Everyone wins.

From the graph it’s clear that since 2021, credit flow has not only recovered but has accelerated significantly, reaching robust double-digit growth rates. This indicates a good confidence from lenders, rising demand for funds from MSMEs for expansion and operations, and a generally healthier and more vibrant small and medium business environment in India. As the banks and NBFCs are lending more to the MSMEs it shows increasing confidence in the sector's ability to repay and generate returns.
It’s obvious that people might think that ‘is it good to have this much of credit outstanding?’ Look for a developing economy like India, especially given the crucial role MSMEs play, it is generally very good to have a high and growing amount of credit outstanding to the MSME sector. Why? Because, It reflects an expanding business environment where smaller enterprises can have easy access to the capital which they need to thrive and grow their business.
The only key here is that the credit needs to be healthy credit. As long as banks are doing their due diligence and MSMEs are utilizing the funds productively and repaying them, this significant outstanding amount is a strong positive indicator for economic growth.

What You Really Need to Know

• Bank NPA ratio: Down to 2.3% - best in decades

• MSME lending: Up ~20% YoY - finally getting the support they need

• Agri & Industry credit: Healthy growth, shifting toward productivity

• Retail credit: Cooling - but stable and safe

• NBFC credit: Tightened - expect stricter borrowing terms

• Global view: India is leading in small business credit growth compared to US, EU, China.

Conclusion

India’s banks have done their homework. NPAs are down, balance sheets are stronger, and credit is finally flowing where it’s needed most — to MSMEs, to consumers, to the real economy.

Yes, there are speed bumps like NBFCs facing tighter rules. But overall, India’s credit cycle is finally turning up after years of stress.

Indian government is seriously committed to boosting manufacturing, primarily through the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. This massive ₹1.97 lakh crore (~$24 billion) program offers cash rewards to companies that meet specific local production or export goals across 14 different sectors. It's already showing significant results, with companies investing over ₹1.47 lakh crore, leading to a substantial increase in output and exports. For example, companies under the mobile phone PLI program produced 82% of India's phone exports in FY23. However, the actual disbursement of these incentives has been slow, with only 8 of the 14 sectors having received funds, and only 37% of expected production targets were achieved by October 2024. This means companies are investing based on the promise, but the cash flow is taking time to become liquid.

Beyond incentives, India is heavily investing in infrastructure. Programs like PM Gati Shakti are linking essential logistics hubs like ports, airports, and railways with a unified plan, aiming to drastically cut the high logistics costs and improve efficiency to rival countries like China. India-US bilateral trade touched $131.84 billion in FY 2024-25. That’s a major jump, with India’s exports alone rising 11.6% over the year to reach $86.5 billion. What makes this even more interesting is that both countries have set a bold target to push this figure up to $500 billion by 2030.

This is not just about selling goods. It’s about building stronger economic ties, creating jobs, boosting investment, and improving supply chains on both sides. Let’s dive in and try to unpack this.

India and the United States have been trading with each other for decades. But in the last four years, the US has remained India’s largest trading partner.

• India’s exports to the US (FY 2024-25): $86.51 billion

There are some differences in data between both countries because of how they track trade (fiscal vs calendar year), but the key fact is that trade is growing steadily.

The big goal now is to grow this trade relationship to $500 billion by 2030. To get there, both countries are working on new trade agreements, including a much-talked-about interim trade deal.

Countdown to a Deal (July 9!)

Time is ticking. The US imposed a 26% tariff on many Indian goods way back on April 2 (famously known as reciprocal tariffs). However it was paused for 90 days to make up a deal with the US. That pause ends on July 9, 2025. If no deal is finalized by then, those extra tariffs will be back on. The 10% base US tariff always applies, but that jump from 10% to 36% on some items is real danger. So Indian businesses are literally counting days. According to reports, India’s top trade negotiators are still in Washington to dodge that extra 26% duty by working quickly on what’s being called a ‘mini deal’.

What does both Country want?

India says:

• Full relief from the extra 26% tariff

• Lower US duties for textiles, gems, jewellery, leather, chemicals, grapes, and bananas.

• Protection for sensitive areas like dairy and genetically modified (GM) crops. (“No way on dairy and GM crops!”)

• Avoid opening India’s dairy sector, which supports over 80 million farmers

• Keep strict patent rules to stop “evergreening”
  (India’s patent law includes a special rule called Section 3(d), which stops pharmaceutical companies from extending their patents by making minor changes to existing medicines. This practice is known as “evergreening.” This ensures that only drugs offering real, proven improvements in treatment can get new patents. It’s a key policy that keeps medicine prices affordable for millions of people and protects India’s role as a global supplier of low-cost generic medicines.)

US says:

• Lower Indian tariffs on agricultural goods like dairy, apples, tree nuts, maize, and soybean

• Easier market access for automobiles, electric vehicles (EVs), wines, petrochemicals

• Market opportunities in oil, LNG, commercial aircraft, and nuclear power equipment

• Address India’s strict quality control rules which the US claims limit their exports

Basically, India is digging in on farms and food, the US id digging in on dairy, grains and cars. Each side is playing hard. However, India’s trade minister Mr. Piyush Goyal reminded everyone that India “does not make deals based on deadlines”. It is keeping the national interest above everything.

What’s at Stake

If the interim deal happens:

• Indian exports like textiles, jewellery, and pharmaceuticals could grow faster, creating more jobs.

• US farm and industrial product makers would get better access to the Indian market.

• Both countries could avoid the return of costly extra tariffs.

India exported 13.5 million tons of finished steel in FY24, and nearly 35% of that went to Europe. But here’s the issue: Europe is about to tax carbon-heavy imports. The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) – it’s basically a climate tariff. Starting 2026, Indian steelmakers will face penalties on emissions, unless they clean up their production. So what was the response from India’s top players? A green spending spree it was.

🛡️Safeguard Duties: The Silent Margin Booster

Steel prices are no longer purely dictated by demand-supply fundamentals, they’re now being heavily influenced by policy responses to global overcapacity, especially from China. In 2023, China exported over 90 million tons of steel, marking a 50% YoY jump which is its highest level since 2016. This export surge wasn't just a product of domestic overproduction; it was also a strategic move by China to offload inventory amid cooling real estate and construction sectors. As a result, global steel prices took a hit, particularly in Asia, where Chinese hot-rolled coil prices dropped nearly 15% YoY.

India felt this heat too much. In April 2024, nearly 0.64 million tons of steel were imported which was up 22% YoY, with more than half coming from China. India became a net importer of steel for FY24. Faced with this flood of low-cost steel, the Indian government has initiated consultations to raise safeguard duties from 12% to as much as 24%, particularly on flat products and coated steels that compete directly with Indian made varieties. This is not being done to improve the margins and profitability of private players, it's about preserving the market share of domestic manufacturers, especially the players who are investing heavily in Green Steel.

Trade protection doesn't create demand, but it does create pricing power, especially when paired with high domestic input costs.

⚙️ BIS Compliance: MSMEs Are Getting Squeezed

In the world of steel, compliance has quietly become the new competitive edge. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has tightened norms around product certification, quality documentation, and traceability for both imported and domestically processed steel. These changes are part of India’s larger effort to align with international standards and to prevent low-grade or counterfeit materials from entering critical infrastructure supply chains.

🔍 Why MSMEs Are Hit the Hardest?

Most micro and small-scale steel units, let them be re-rollers, tube fabricators, forging units, or alloy processors all operate with minimal back-office infrastructure. They're often family-run, lean on tech, and depend heavily on imported semi-finished products or specialized alloys from markets like China, Japan, or South Korea.

Now, every import batch must comply with:

• A BIS-certified mill test report (MTR) - a document that certifies the chemical and physical properties of steel or metal.

“It used to take us 3 days to clear a container at port. Now it’s 12,” said a small manufacturer in Ludhiana. “Clients don’t wait 12 days—they switch vendors.”

“The U.S. will never default,” they said.

Imagine the U.S. credit rating the “A+ grade” for its borrowing slipping for the first time in history. That’s exactly what happened on May 16, 2025, when Moody’s downgraded America from AAA to AA1. The reason? A whopping $36+ trillion national debt and endlessly large annual deficits. To put into perspective it’s 13 times India’s entire GDP. crazy, right?
In simple terms, Moody’s warned that U.S. leaders have been spending more than they earn (budget deficits) for years, piling up debt and interest costs (The U.S. adds over $5 billion in interest payments every day!). All three big rating agencies (S&P, Fitch, now Moody’s) have lowered America’s grade, signaling real concerns about the fiscal outlook.

In Moody’s own words, “successive U.S. administrations…have failed to reverse the trend of large annual fiscal deficits and growing interest costs”. In other words, each year the Treasury borrows more to cover spending and its interest bills keep climbing. Right now U.S. debt is about 100% of GDP ( ie. one year’s entire economic output) and could rise to ~134% by 2035 without big changes. Even worse, the U.S. government is now paying about 4.5% interest on its 10-year bonds and the 30-year bonds is near 5%. Higher yields mean the U.S. must pay more to borrow, which adds to the interest costs in the budget.

FPI Flows

On May 20 (right after Moody’s news), overseas investors pulled about ₹10,000 crore out of Indian stocks in a single day. This was the largest outflow since February, triggered by U.S. worries and rising U.S. bond yields (when U.S. yields rise, foreign money often leaves riskier markets). However if we look at the bigger picture we have seen a good amount of inflows from the starting of this Financial Year. (A sharp recovery was seen in April and May) Till date there is 91,937+ crore of inflow. A foreign portfolio investor (FPI) is someone who buys Indian stocks/bonds from abroad. They move in and out of markets based on global cues.

The USD-INR Volatility

The Indian rupee actually got a bit stronger after the U.S. downgrade. On May 19 it closed around ₹85.40 to the dollar (stronger than prior days), as the U.S. dollar weakened on debt worries. A Reuters report noted the rupee “ended modestly higher” because the greenback was broadly weaker. (If the USD falls, INR goes up.) Traders also saw the increased volatility calm down – for example, one-month implied USD/INR volatility dropped from ~6.7% in early May to ~4.7% in early June. Simply put, investors were worrying less about sudden swings in the rupee.

RBI Came to the Rescue

This is where it gets interesting. Recently the inflation of India eased to 3.2% in April, which is well below the 4% target. Also on June 6, 2025, RBI stepped up and cut the Repo Rate by 50 bps to 5.50%. (The interest rate at which RBI lends to banks. Lower repo = cheaper loans for businesses and you.) And Reduced CRR by 100 bps points. (CRR or Cash Reserve Ratio is the % of deposits banks keep with RBI.) Cutting this pumped fresh money into the system. RBI’s this move injected over ₹1.4 lakh crore of liquidity into banks in one week.

Why this all matters

Moody’s downgrade is a loud signal that the U.S. fiscal path isn’t sustainable. The growing debt and deficits can weaken confidence in U.S. economy. For India, the immediate effect was some profit-taking by foreign investors, and a slight boost to the rupee as the dollar slumped. Importantly, India is largely on a different trajectory: low inflation, a stable central bank cutting rates, and economic growth near 7%. This keeps the rupee and bond yields relatively calm and stock markets resilient. However, investors should keep an eye on global news. For example, US-India trade talks and Fed moves could still shake things up (as one analyst noted, any US-India trade deal news could swing portfolio flows). Also the recent Israel-Iran tension could give a swing to the Indian markets.

India’s semiconductor game is heating up faster than a popcorn in a microwave. Our electronics sector is set to hit $300 billion by 2026 – which means we’ll need tons of chips. Trouble is, we import almost all of them. By 2026, imports may cross $64 billion in imports. Yeah, that hurts!

But things are changing. India is planting the seeds to grow its own chip farms (fabs) and packaging plants. Think of it like this: one part of the factory makes the chip, kind of like building a car engine. Then comes the next part—checking if the engine works, polishing it, and finally putting it in the car so it’s ready to drive. That’s where Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging – or ATMP – and Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) come in. These steps add around 12–15% of the chip's value, and they’re becoming India’s starting point in the chip world.

The government’s mission is laser-focused on segments that make up about 60% of global chip demand (think car electronics, 5G gear, power systems, and railways). To get an idea— we’re not trying to beat Taiwan or the US at their most advanced 3nm chips just yet. We’re starting where we can be competitive – building the end of line factories that turn raw chips into finished products.

India’s Big Chip Build

India’s chip pipeline is already $18–21 billion strong. In fact, recent reports say four new ATMP/OSAT plants plus one fab (Tata’s) have been approved, with a combined investment of about ₹1.52 lakh crore (~$18.2 billion). The breakdown is that Tata Electronics (with Taiwan’s Powerchip) will spend ₹91,000 crore (~$10.4 B) to build a 28nm wafer fab in Gujarat (50,000 wafers per month) and expects to create 20,000 jobs. U.S. memory giant Micron is pouring in $2.75 billion (the government and state cover the rest) to build a massive ATMP plant in Sanand, Gujarat. When done, Phase 1 (~500,000 sq-ft cleanroom) should start churning out packaged DRAM and NAND chips by late 2024 (DRAM is your computer's fast, short-term memory for what it's doing right now, while NAND is its slower, long-term storage where everything is saved permanently).

And then there’s HCL-Foxconn – a joint venture that recently got cabinet approval. This plant in Jewar (UP) will crank out display driver chips for phones, laptops, etc. It’s a modest-sized fab focused on 20,000 wafers per month, which translates to about 36 million packaged chips a month once up and running (production is slated around 2027). All in, the capex is about ₹3,700 crore (~$433 M). It’s like HCL’s engineering experts + Foxconn’s assembly expertise started dating. (Wafers are the raw materials required to make the chips)
Here’s a quick table to skip the above reading:

You can see the orders of magnitude: Tata’s fab dwarfs others (₹91,000 crore) and will create the lion’s share of jobs. But these smaller assembly & test plants (Micron, HCL-Foxconn, Kaynes, CG/Renesas) are bread & butter now. India vs. Taiwan & Malaysia: Still New Kids on the Block

Let’s get some global perspective: Taiwan is the world leader in chip assembly and packaging. They have over 100 OSAT facilities on the island (China has about 111). Malaysia, too, is a veteran chip assembler – and their officials are keen to team up with India. Malaysia’s Deputy Industry Minister noted India’s semicon market will triple from $38B today to $109B by 2030 and is looking for partnerships on equipment and packaging expertise. In comparison, India is just setting up its first few OSAT plants.

So yes, right now India’s far behind the Taiwan/Malaysia parade, but that’s expected: they started decades ago. The smart move is exactly what we’re doing: build out ATMP/OSAT first (think of it as low-hanging fruit), train engineers on real gear, and make Indian products competitive. As one industry leader put it, “Packaging is a start, but India must aim higher – advanced packaging, fabs, and eventually, product companies.”

What’s in it for us

• Investors: Keep an eye on semiconductor capable companies. Think beyond just fab owners – consider the tools, chemicals, and materials suppliers. (Applied Materials, Lam Research, Merck, Linde etc. already popped up as project partners.) Also, local electronics product firms (like smartphone and EV makers) could be big beneficiaries, Dixon is big name in it. A homegrown chip ecosystem can mean cheaper, faster access to key components for them.

• Product Companies: Imagine a future where an Indian electric vehicle maker sources power chips from nearby factories, or a phone designed in India uses locally-packaged application processors. Right now almost all chips for these industries are imported. In a few years, we could see parts of that supply chain living here. That means stronger security of supply and maybe better margins (no huge import duty surprises).

• The Future: We’re basically at the starting gun. All announced projects are “in factory setup mode,” as insiders say. Many plants won’t be in full swing until 2026–2027. But this is a start. It’s building the “beachhead” – creating an ecosystem of skill, suppliers, and confidence. After all, just a few years ago, saying “India has multiple chip assembly factories” would be laughable. Today it’s reality.

Final thoughts

India is late to the chip party, but it’s sprinting to catch up. The government and industry agree: start with packaging (ATMP/OSAT) and generate investment & talent. That strategy aligns with how East Asia’s chip hubs evolved (Taiwan, Korea, Singapore all bulked up assembly/test before high-end fabs). There will be growing pains, supply chain puzzles, and tough global competition – this isn’t trivial. But the prize is huge: capturing even a slice of the multi-hundred-billion-dollar chip market.
Chips are the new oil, and we’re frantically pumping. As India’s tech sector zooms, chips are the fuel – and now India’s racing to refine its own. . Who knows, maybe the next smartphone you hold will whisper, “Made in India.”

India’s economy remains a global standout but, obviously with the usual twists. FY24 saw 8–9% growth (about 9.2% on revised numbers), making India the world’s fastest-growing big economy. The print for FY24 was driven by all “engines” – especially industry and services. In FY25, growth is slowed down to ~6.5% (provisional). These numbers are “real” (inflation-adjusted) GDP growth. These FY25 figures are provisional estimates, because the final data (based on full year surveys, etc.) only come out later ie. around the end of FY 26 and FY 27. The government revises GDP numbers once more data is available. (as it did for FY24, raising the growth to 9.2% from earlier estimates). So think of FY25’s 6.5% as a “draft” number that could change slightly. In nominal terms, GDP for FY25 is pegged at ₹330.7 lakh crore (9.8% growth).

You can see growth slowed in recent years (e.g. around 6–7% in 2014s, dipped into single digits in FY19-20), crashed in FY21 (COVID lockdowns), then surged back in FY22–23 on pent-up demand. The FY24 rebound (9.2%) was unusually high (helped by a low FY21 base and strong manufacturing), while FY25’s 6.5% is on a higher base and reflects some moderation.

Sector Snapshots

Digging deeper, we see sectoral shifts. Agriculture (the primary sector) actually picked up – growing about 4.6% in FY25 versus 2.7% in FY24. A good monsoon helped farmers and rural demand. Manufacturing, by contrast, slowed sharply: it grew ~12.3% in FY24 but only ~4.5% in FY25 (partly due to global weak demand and some price effects). Services – our biggest sector – decelerated from ~9.0% (FY24) to 7.2% (FY25). In plain terms, most industries are growing more slowly than before, except farming which got a boost.

In FY25, the primary sector overall (agriculture + mining) grew about 4.4% (up from 2.7% last year). Construction was roaring (around +10.8% in Q4) all thanks to real estate and public infra projects and public sector services picked up a bit, but manufacturing’s slowdown dragged overall secondary sector growth lower. All told, the big picture is: rural demand strong (thanks to farming), urban/industry softer.

Private Demand and Inflation

A bright spot has been domestic consumption. Private final consumption (basically household spending) grew 7.2% in FY25, up from 5.6% last year. In fact, private consumption was one of the fastest-growing components, outpacing GDP. Why? Rural incomes (thanks to agriculture) are holding up, and some tax cuts + interest rate cuts have given city folks more spending power. In short, people are spending more on goods and services, especially in the villages – “rural rebound” as experts call it. Government spending growth, however, has eased (part of budget tightening), so GDP is less fueled by the state now.

Inflation has also come down sharply, which helps consumers. Retail (CPI) inflation averaged about 5.4% in FY24 and slid to about 4.6% in FY25 – the lowest in years. In March 2025 it was just ~3.3%. Lower inflation means people’s paychecks go farther. Food price inflation in particular has cooled, thanks to good harvests and government measures. With inflation back near the RBI’s 4% target, the central bank has started cutting rates, which could further boost spending and investment.

India vs The World

How does India stack up globally? India’s ~6–7% growth is far above many rich countries. For 2024–25, major forecasts are around 2% for the US, 4–5% for China, and about 1% for the Euro area. (For example, the OECD expects US growth ~2.2% in 2025 and Eurozone ~1.0%.) In fact, at current rates India will remain the fastest-growing large economy. Even so, risks abound: global growth is slowing overall, and high global interest rates or trade tensions could spill over. So India’s economy may outperform many peers, but it’s not immune to world events.

Exports and Other Factors

On the external side, India’s export growth has been muted as world demand cools. Services exports (IT, business services) are holding up relatively well, but merchandise exports have struggled amid a global slowdown. The rupee’s stability or modest movement could help exports slightly, but any sharp currency swing or trade barriers (e.g. geo‐political tariff tussles) could hurt. The trade deficit is still large with China (as reported), and competition from other countries is stiff. In short, exports are a mixed bag – not a big driver of growth right now.

Looking ahead, upside factors for FY25-26 include a good monsoon (boosting farm output and rural spending), falling inflation (giving consumers breathing room), tax cuts for households, and continued government infrastructure spending. On the downside, global uncertainty (inflation abroad, wars, tariffs) could dampen investment and trade. Most forecasts (and the government’s own outlook) peg India’s growth around 6.3–6.8% in FY26, assuming no major shocks.

Factories didn’t magically relocate to Ohio or Detroit. Instead, the supply chains got smarter, and shifted elsewhere. And China? It played this game like a champ.

The Indian Cabinet has just given a massive thumbs-up, clearing a ₹3,706 crore chip plant! Yes, you read that right. This isn't just pocket change; it's a serious investment set to supercharge our electronics manufacturing capabilities. It’s a Joint Venture between our very own HCL Group and the Taiwanese electronics giant, Foxconn. This is seriously cool because this plant will be India's sixth major project cleared under the government's ambitious semiconductor mission. Uttar Pradesh is now officially on the chip-making map, becoming the third state to host such a facility, right after Gujarat (with 4 units) and Assam (with 1 unit).

So, what exactly will this plant be making?

We're talking about advanced display driver chips. Now, in simple terms, these are the tiny, super-smart components that control what you see on your screens – whether it's your mobile phone, laptop, or even the dashboard in your car. They manage the pixels, telling them what color and brightness to show, essentially bringing your digital world to life. Pretty crucial, huh? The plant aims to process around 20,000 wafers a month. Think of wafers as ultra-thin, round slices of silicon, like a high-tech pizza base, on which hundreds or thousands of these chips are etched before being cut out. The goal is to produce a staggering 36 million chips every single month! The facility is expected to be operational by 2027 and will create around 2,000 direct jobs.

This Jewar plant is a crucial piece of a much larger puzzle. The Indian government has now greenlit six major semiconductor projects, with a combined investment rocketing past ₹1.55 lakh crore. These projects are backed by a hefty ₹76,000 crore incentive scheme, showing serious commitment! Let's take a quick look at this impressive lineup:
First, we have Tata Electronics' massive fabrication plant in Dholera, Gujarat, in partnership with Taiwan's PSMC. This fab is where chips will be manufactured from silicon wafers, focusing on mature nodes like 28nm and 40nm – vital for automotive, consumer electronics, and power management. Then, there's Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test (TSAT) in Morigaon, Assam, which will handle the crucial back-end processes of assembling, testing, marking, and packaging the chips. US-based Micron Technology is also setting up a large ATMP (Assembly, Test, Mark, Package) facility in Sanand, Gujarat. Adding to Gujarat's growing semiconductor hub, CG Power, in partnership with Renesas Electronics (Japan) and Stars Microelectronics (Thailand), is establishing an OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) unit in Sanand, specializing in packaging for specific chip types. Kaynes Semicon's facility, also in Sanand, will contribute to the assembly and testing ecosystem. And, of course, the newly approved HCL-Foxconn joint venture in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, will focus on display driver chips, further strengthening this value chain.

Together, these projects cover a significant portion of the semiconductor manufacturing process, from actually making the chips (fabrication) to preparing them for use in devices (ATMP/OSAT).

Why This is a BFD (Big Financial Deal) for India?

1. Slashing Import Bills: India currently imports a vast majority of its semiconductors. By producing more chips domestically, especially critical ones like display drivers, we can significantly reduce this reliance, saving valuable foreign exchange and bolstering our economic sovereignty.

2. Building a Robust Ecosystem: As one minister pointed out, this chip plant could pave the way for a display panel manufacturing plant, potentially meeting 40% of India's display needs! This creates a ripple effect, attracting more investments and fostering a complete electronics manufacturing ecosystem.

3. Hello, Global Supply Chains! Foxconn, holding a 40% stake in the Jewar JV, plans to use these India-made chips for its global requirements. This positions India as a key player in the international electronics supply chain, not just a consumer.
