Part One: The Mirror Stage

Somewhere between six and eighteen months old, something happens to every one of us that we don't remember, and that shapes almost everything that comes after.

A baby is put in front of a mirror. Before this moment, the infant experiences itself the way it actually is: fragmented, uncoordinated, a scatter of sensations and impulses with no single center holding it together. Hunger here, a kicking leg there, a cry, a hand. There is no "I" yet, just parts.

And then the baby sees the mirror. And for the first time, it sees something whole. A single, complete, bounded little body, moving as one thing. The infant looks at that reflection and does something remarkable: it falls in love with it. It identifies with the image. This is me, this coherent, complete little figure in the glass, that's who I am.

Jacques Lacan, the French psychoanalyst, called this the mirror stage, and he made a claim: that image was never actually true. It was always more put-together, more whole, more finished than the fragmented, unfinished creature actually looking at it. The infant fell in love with a fiction of wholeness, and then spent the rest of its life trying to become the thing in the mirror.

This is the birth of the ego, according to Lacan. Not a discovery of who we are, but an identification with an image of who we are not yet…We don't just do this once, at eighteen months, and then stop. We keep doing it. Every time we build an identity around a single frozen image of ourselves, gay or straight, successful or failing, lovable or not, we're re-enacting the mirror stage. We're mistaking one reflection for the whole of who we are.

Part Two: What Happens When the Mirror Never Changes

Here's where I want to bring in something real, something from the history of sex research, because it makes this abstract idea concrete.

Alfred Kinsey, a zoologist turned pioneering sex researcher, gave the world a genuinely radical gift in 1948: a scale showing that sexual orientation wasn't binary, that most people exist somewhere on a spectrum rather than in one of two boxes. It cracked open a rigid culture.

Kinsey's actual theory came out of thousands of private, in-depth interviews he and his team conducted about people's real sexual histories, not assumptions, but honest accounts of lived experience. What he found broke apart the culture's entire framework: almost nobody fell cleanly into "only attracted to one sex." Most people lived somewhere in between. His conclusion was that sexual orientation is best understood as a continuum, a single sliding scale running from exclusively one end to exclusively the other, with the vast middle of humanity somewhere along the way. For its time, this was seismic. But it was still, by design, one axis. One sliding scale trying to hold the whole of a person's sexuality in a single measurement.

Thirty years later, Fritz Klein, a psychiatrist and bisexuality researcher, looked at that single frozen point and said: this isn't enough. People aren't one point on one line. So he built something different, a grid instead of a line. Not one measurement of you, but several, your attractions, your behavior, your fantasies, who you love, who you're drawn to socially, how you live, how you name yourself. And not one moment in time, but three, who you were, who you are now, and who you're becoming.

Klein's theory was that sexuality was never a single fact about a person, it was a living relationship between several different parts of the self, and those parts don't always agree with each other. You might feel attraction one way, live your day-to-day life another way, and be moving toward something different still. Older models treated any mismatch between those parts as confusion, something to resolve into one clean answer. Klein's theory said the mismatch itself was the honest picture. He wasn't trying to locate the one true point that described a person. He was trying to build a structure spacious enough to hold a person's actual complexity without demanding they simplify themselves to fit it.

What Klein built, Many measurements instead of one, moving across time instead of fixed in a single line. You can be pulled one way in attraction and another way in how you live, and heading somewhere different still in who you're becoming, all at once, without the grid forcing those into a single tidy image. The contradictions stay visible. Nothing gets flattened into one falsely complete picture.

That's the whole difference between a mirror that traps you and a mirror that keeps showing you more of yourself than you expected.

Part Three: Breaking Free

So here is the invitation, and it's bigger than sexuality, bigger than any single framework i could hand you today.

The mirror stage isn't something that happened to you once in infancy and is now over. It's something you keep doing, every time you accept a single frozen image, a label, a story, a diagnosis, a role, a relationship pattern, and let it stand in for the whole of who you are. The baby in front of the mirror had no choice. You do.

Breaking free doesn't mean destroying every structure you've ever built around yourself. Structure isn't the enemy here, Klein needed his seven variables and three time points as much as Kinsey needed his single line to start the conversation at all. The freedom isn't in having no mirror. It's in refusing to let any single reflection be the last word. Build the structure. Let it teach you something true. And then, when it's done its work, let yourself outgrow it, the same way you were always going to outgrow that first, frozen, too-perfect image in the glass.

You were never actually the thing in the mirror. You were always more than that, still becoming, still unfinished, still free.

None of this happens from a state of tension. You cannot mistake a frozen reflection for the whole of yourself and then argue your way out of it, white-knuckled, gripping tighter at your own edges. The nervous system that's clenched, defended, bracing to protect one fixed image of who it's supposed to be, is the same nervous system that can't perceive anything beyond that image in the first place.

Deep relaxation is what actually opens the door. It's in that unclenched, unguarded state, body settled, breath slow, the critical mind finally standing down, that you become able to meet yourself as you actually are instead of the frozen picture you learned to defend. Embracing yourself isn't a decision you make from effort. It's what becomes possible the moment you're relaxed enough to stop holding the mirror so tightly, and let yourself be seen, by yourself first, exactly as unfinished and alive as you've always actually been.

Guided Practice: The Mirror as Doorway

Let's bring this information from an idea into a practice now.

If you have a mirror with you, pick it up now, or turn toward one nearby. If you don't, that's alright too, you can hold this with your eyes closed and a memory of your own face instead. But if you have one, hold it now.

Settle in. Let your shoulders drop. Take a slower breath than the one before it. Now, gently, let your eyes find your own eyes in the glass. Don't look for anything yet. Don't search, don't judge, don't fix. Just let your gaze rest there, the way you'd rest a hand on something you trust. Just keep your eyes soft, keep your breath slow, and stay.

As you keep looking, let the face in front of you stop being a fact and start being a question. Who is this. Not who you were told you are. Not the image you built your whole identity defending. Just, who is actually here, looking back.

Let your breath get even slower. Let your jaw unclench. Let anything in your chest that's been held, soften.

This is the mirror stage undoing itself, in real time, in your own eyes. The frozen image loosening its grip, just by being looked at with enough tenderness and enough time. Stay here as long as you need. There's nowhere else to be.

If you feel called to, and only if you feel called to, you can take this practice further on your own, later, in private. Stand before a full-length mirror, fully undressed, and let your eyes travel slowly, without hurry, without editing, across every inch of your skin. Not evaluating. Witnessing. The same soft, unguarded gaze you just gave your own eyes, now given to your whole body, exactly as it is. See yourself whole. See yourself unapologetic. This is the same undoing, just spoken in a fuller language, the language of the full body .

I want to invite you to bring this same practice to your partner, or to someone you love, at another time.

Sit across from them. Let a mirror rest nearby, or let their eyes become the mirror instead. And look at them the way you just looked at yourself, slow, unguarded, without needing them to be anything other than what's actually there.

Let the mirror become your anchor. Let it become remembrance, remembrance that you are both still becoming, still unfinished, still more than any single image either of you has ever been handed.

Let it become a sacred definition between you, not a fixed one, a living one. A communion. Two people, willing to keep seeing each other freshly, refusing to let the relationship freeze into one old reflection of who you both used to be.

Worship what you find there. Let their face become a doorway the way your own just did.

If it feels right for you both, this practice can also be done fully undressed, witnessing not just each other's faces but every inch of skin, slowly, without hurry, without evaluation. Seeing your beloved whole. Letting them see you whole, unapologetic, exactly as you are. The same undoing you just practiced alone, now shared, now doubled, now made communion.

And then, when you're ready, let even that mirror go.

Break free from every mirror, the one in your hand, the one in their eyes, the one you built your whole identity around. Let all of it dissolve. And touch, underneath every reflection you've ever needed, the universe that was always there, in you, unnamed, unfinished, and free.

Where do the verdicts come from?

The structures we inherited

Most of us didn't choose our first beliefs about love. We inherited them, the way we inherit a language, and we absorbed them the way a nervous system learns its responses, through repetition, through what our environment rewarded or punished. Religions built temples, and temples built walls inside us to match. One form of union got a halo. Every other form got a shadow to live in. Non-monogamy in particular got dressed in fear: adultery, temptation, the wandering heart as something to be caged rather than understood.

Out of that fear, humans have built many rooms. Polyamory. Open relationships. Relationship anarchy. Swinging. Ethical non-monogamy as an umbrella term over all of it. Each one is a structure, a set of agreements people made to hold something as slippery as desire. They are maps, drawn by people trying to find their way home to each other, and like all maps they are not the territory.

The observer with no bias

There is a state, reachable in deep relaxation, where the critical mind steps back from the podium. It stops arguing for one structure over another. In that state you are simply an observer of your own love, your own desire, without the layer of SHOULD.

Simply watch. Watch who you're drawn to and how many. Watch what lights up in your chest when someone touches your hand. I always notice something quietly radical: it's all One Love. One current, wearing different skins depending on who it moves through. Call it a spouse of twenty years. Call it a stranger's laugh across a room. Underneath both, it's the same current, wearing a different name each time.

And yet. When two people drop fully into each other, when the eyes stay open and the breath synchronizes , In that exact moment, you are monogamous. Completely. Not because a rule says so, but because your whole attention has poured itself into one vessel and there is no room left for anyone else. If You Choose so.

Presence itself is monogamous by nature. It can only be fully with what it is with.

This is the paradox worth sitting inside rather than resolving: the soul can love expansively while presence, at its peak, is always singular.

The heart was built polyamorous

Let us Look at the organ itself before we look at any belief system. The heart has four chambers, opening and closing in constant rhythm, giving and receiving through multiple channels at once. It just keeps pumping, keeps circulating, keeps finding new vessels to move through. Biologically, structurally, the heart has never known monogamy. Monogamy is something the mind layered on top of an organ that was already fluent in many.

I think humans, underneath all our training, are non-monogamous by design. Not incapable of depth. Simply built with a capacity for love that doesn't max out at one. We narrowed that capacity to survive certain tribes, certain centuries, certain economic arrangements around land and lineage.

From release to remembrance

Watch what happens when the body actually relaxes into touch instead of rushing it. Sex stops being a release valve, a quick discharge to quiet the nervous system, and becomes something closer to prayer. Slowed down, felt fully, touch turns into remembrance: the body recalling that it came from the same source as the body it's touching, that separation was always a story layered on top of one singular field. That shift, from release to remembrance, is available with one lover or many. It's not about the number. It's about whether you're present enough to let contact mean something.

When we drop every boundary the mind built out of fear, what's left underneath is a capacity to love widely, freely, without needing to ration it to prove loyalty. That capacity, loving many without grasping, without needing to possess or be possessed, is not a lesser state than devotion to one. It may be the highest frequency there is. Some traditions would call it God frequency: the point where love stops flowing through a single channel because it has remembered it was never separate from any channel at all.

What the subconscious was actually protecting

The critical mind's whole job is pattern-matching for safety, and early on it absorbed a simple equation: shared attention equals threat, threat equals abandonment, abandonment equals death. So it built a gate around desire and called the gate morality. Jealousy, guilt, the tight chest at the thought of a partner wanting someone else, these aren't proof of a higher truth. They're often just an old survival program running on a body. The subconscious doesn't need to be shamed for this. It needs to be shown, gently and repeatedly, that a different experience is possible before it will loosen its grip.

The higher frequency

There's a frequency past the fear, past even the negotiation of structures, where love stops needing a container to prove it's real. In that field, you could meet almost anyone and feel the invitation to touch them, kiss them, move with them, and there would be no separation, no judgment, no resistance…

At that height, love and lovemaking stop being about who owns whom. They become conscious acts of remembrance. A kiss becomes two people remembering they came from the same source and split into skin to find each other again. A dance becomes bodies remembering rhythm that was never separate from spirit. Sex becomes a temple instead of a transaction, a place where two humans remind each other what they already are underneath their story.

Monogamy or not , this stops being the real question. The real question is: are you present enough, awake enough, unafraid enough, to let each touch be a choice instead of a reflex? To let each act of intimacy, however many hands are in it, be sacred instead of automatic?

That's the practice. Not choosing a camp. Choosing consciousness inside whichever camp you're in.

When the intimacy arrives to this point , the masks fall, the performance ends, and what's left standing is the part of you that has been waiting the longest to be touched . Some people meet this moment in stillness. Others meet it on their knees, or with a rope around their wrists, or with a hand closed around their throat and permission burning behind their eyes. This is where Shadow Tantra and sacred kink live. Not at the edge of intimacy. At its center, wearing a costume culture taught you to be afraid of.

Let's start with what these words actually mean.

Shadow Tantra is the practice of bringing your hidden self into contact with your erotic self, on purpose, with a witness. The shadow, in the way psychology has used the word, is everything you learned to push out of sight — the anger, the hunger, the need to be dominated or to dominate, the desires that got labeled too much before you were old enough to know if that was true. Shadow Tantra does not try to fix these parts or talk them out of existing. It brings them into the room, into the body, into contact with a trusted partner and a container built on real boundaries , and lets them be witnessed instead of buried. Grief gets voiced. Rage gets a place to move. The desire that felt like a secret gets to become a shared language instead.

Sacred kink is the sister practice: consensual power exchange — bondage, sensation, structured dominance and submission, held inside spiritual intention. It is not rough sex with candles lit to make it look holy. It is a claim, stated plainly, that the nervous system's oldest responses to restraint and intensity are not defects to manage. They are doorways. When the body is met with clear negotiation, a real safe word, and a partner who stays present the entire time, something shifts physiologically — the sharp spike of stress at the start of an intense scene gives way, afterward, to a slower, quieter state some practitioners call subspace or topspace, and which researchers studying it describe as closer to trance than to ordinary waking life. Rules become ritual. Restraint becomes rite. A scene becomes a temple.

The whip that prays is not the whip that punishes. It is the one lifted the way a hand lifts to light incense, slow, deliberate, aimed at something it already loves. Every mark it leaves says something back to the body: this part of you was real, I saw it, I found the place where you stopped hiding. Pain here is not tenderness's opposite. It is tenderness in a coat the nervous system will finally let all the way in, because it arrived with permission attached.

Submission, looked at honestly, has never been about becoming small. It is what happens when someone finally stops holding the wheel, trusting the hands that will hold it instead. That trust is built the same way any real trust is built: through what got negotiated before the scene began, through a word that can stop everything in a single syllable, through a partner who asked what you needed and then actually listened. Surrender without that foundation is abandonment wearing leather clothes. Surrender with it becomes something closer to prayer, the oldest kind — the kind where you say take this and mean it.

Real dominance is a discipline: staying fully present in your own body while someone hands you theirs, tracking every breath and flinch and sound. Care and command are not opposites in this frame. The hand that grips is the same hand that will, minutes later, hold what it just commanded and walk it slowly back down to ordinary ground. That descent matters as much as the climb , aftercare is the exhale that lets the whole ritual complete itself.

What was buried in shame gets treated instead like something worth kneeling in front of.

The ones who arrive most starved for that drop into surrender are often the ones who spend their days holding everyone else's weight: the leaders, the executives making forty decisions before lunch, the ones who runs the room. Their nervous system is simply often exhausted from being the only hand on the wheel. What draws them isn't a type of body or a type of dominance : it is presence. A partner who is fully there, reading every breath, competent enough to hold real structure , that is what lets the vigilance finally stand down.

The relief Is found in finally being met by someone who can hold what they've been carrying alone.

None of this works without the ground beneath it, so let's be honest about what that ground is made of. Before any of it: the rope, the whip, the descent — there is a conversation. An actual conversation, out loud, about what each of you wants and where each of you ends. Choose a word that means stop and means it completely, something that could never be mistaken for part of the scene itself, and agree, both of you, that the moment it's spoken, everything halts, no explanation required. Remember that yes is not a signature on a contract; it's alive the whole way through, free to change its mind at any second, and the partner worth surrendering to is the one who treats it that way. And when the scene ends, don't let it just end: stay. Hold each other, speak softly, drink water, let both nervous systems find their way back to earth together. That return is not the afterthought. It's the part that tells you whether what happened was sacred or just intense.

And underneath all of it, breathe.

Breath is the thread that never lets you lose yourself no matter how far the descent goes, the one thing that stays yours even when everything else has been surrendered. When it gets shallow and forgotten, the body panics and the trance turns into something closer to dissociation. When it stays long, when it stays conscious, breath becomes the rope's twin — another anchor, another way of saying I am still here, I am still choosing this.

And here is the choice only you can make, before any of this begins: what are you actually walking toward? Because this territory holds more than one door. Some people come here reaching for shame, for a scene that confirms what they've always believed about themselves, that they are dirty, that they deserve to be diminished, that being used is the closest they'll ever get to being wanted. That is not what I am offering here , and it does not have to be what you are seeking.

There is another door in the same room. The door where being taken, being bound, being made to kneel, is not a punishment but a form of worship. Where the person who has you also sees you, and every command is really a way of saying you are sacred and I intend to treat you like it. Both doors exist. Only you know which one you're standing in front of. Choose the one that lets you leave the room more whole than you entered it, not less.

And Let the whip become intention. Let it become the prayer spoken before words existed, not a command, but a consecration, lifted the way a priestess lifts her hands before she calls the temple awake.

Every strike is a vow: be here, be here, be here: pulling you deeper into the body at the exact moment your mind wants to float away and hide in its old, safe distance. And the rope, oh, the rope is the anchor no meditation cushion could ever be. It binds you to flesh even as it frees your subconscious to spill open like a flower forced into bloom by moonlight.

This is the paradox only the body understands: restrained, you become the most unrestrained you have ever been. Held, you finally let go of everything you've been gripping since childhood. In that trance of remembrance: skin singing, breath open, the whole nervous system humming like a struck bell — your superconscious leans in close and whispers the truth your mind was too loud to hear: you are always allowed to want this.

The rope brings you home to your body. The whip brings you home to your own hunger. And somewhere in that dizzy, sacred middle, sex stops being an act and becomes a doorway .

Role play stops being pretend and becomes ceremony, and you arrive, gasping, exactly where you were always trying to get back to: yourself.

There is a temple in Assam built around a stone shaped like a yoni, kept eternally wet by an underground spring. Once a year, the river beside it runs red, and the temple closes its doors. The goddess is bleeding. The men trusted close to her in that hour are not the casual devotees. They are the ascetics, the ones who have spent lifetimes burning off their own fear, the ones who have finally earned the right to see straight. The Kamakhia temple serves as a primary nucleus for Tantric and esoteric Shaktism practices, drawing seekers from around the world.

I think about this every time I remember one of my tantric lovers, an Indian man with long hair and a face carved as stillness, a real yogi in the body as much as the practice. During a very hot text exchange between us, I sent him an artistic video of myself bleeding. He went silent for days. I guess something in him had to catch up to what I had just handed him. He had been worshiping the idea of woman for a long time. That video asked him to worship the actual raw and unapologetic side of her.

This is the difference that matters. Worship can happen from outside the gate, at a comfortable distance, in poems that never once look at the blood that makes the poem true. Witness requires walking all the way in — into the blood, into the smell, into the fire running hot under the skin , and not only staying there without flinching, but getting even more aroused by the raw experience of it.

A man who becomes aroused by a woman's cycle, is a man whose nervous system has stopped editing her. He isn't performing enlightened tolerance through gritted teeth. He sees the woman who creates life, who sheds and renews on the same rhythm as the moon, and instead of stepping back from that power he steps towards it. His hands don't pause at the blood. His mouth doesn't avoid it. He finds in it something more alive than anything dry ever was.

I believe this is one of the higher forms of initiation available between two people, and I have been blessed to know men capable of it. Part of what I do, in my own work and in my own life, is to initiate men into the highest form of understanding what the magic of real intimacy actually is, when they are ready to receive it.

Blood as Art, Cycle as Canvas

If the body is a canvas, the menstrual cycle is one of its oldest recurring artworks, and one of the least witnessed. It is a moving piece, painted in the same red an artist reaches for when the palette needs truth instead of prettiness. It arrives on a rhythm of the moon , and it asks a simple question every time it comes: are you ready to be close to the real thing, or do you still need the symbol instead of the source?

Most of the art made about women across history is the symbol. Painted goddesses, marble bodies, poetry about roses and rivers standing in for what the artist wasn't brave enough to render directly. The actual source — blood, cycle, the body doing exactly what it was built to do gets left out of the frame. The symbol can be admired from a chair. The source asks you to come close enough to smell it.

A woman's cycle is fire that runs through her on a schedule . Handing that fire to a lover, unapologetically, is an invitation he has likely never been offered before, because most women were taught to apologize for the very parts of themselves a real initiation would ask him to claim.

The Hand That Moves Like a Brush

This is the same reverence I watch a true artist bring to a canvas. The brush doesn't rush. It finds the curve of a hip the way a lover finds you in the dark. It renders every hair, every pore, every place where light catches skin and skin gives it back. This is devotion in a different material. This is what a lover's touch is too. A hand that moves like a brush moves. Not taking. Rendering. Learning the shape of you the way an artist learns a shape.

The Descent

For some people, the art of arousal moves from the top down. The sapiosexual's excitement lights up first at the crown, at the pineal, at the place where an idea or a way of speaking arrives before it has any business being erotic yet. Something ignites up there, in the quiet dark center of the skull, and only then does it travel down through heart and belly to find the body.

For other people, arousal doesn't take the scenic route at all. It goes straight to the sexual organs, no detour through mind or heart required, and that is not a lesser path. It is simply a different wiring. Both are art. One just takes longer to get to the canvas.

What follows traces the longer route, because that is the one this piece is walking. But wherever your own charge begins, whatever door it enters through, the descent below still belongs to you.

From the crown it drops into the heart, and here the spark becomes feeling instead of thought. This is where a lover stops touching a body and starts touching your heart. The heart is the translator between vision and flesh. Without it, art is just anatomy, and touch is just contact.

From the heart it drops lower still, into the belly, where feeling becomes appetite. The belly doesn't ask permission. It knows what it wants the way an animal knows which weather is coming. This is the seat of hunger, of the low warm ache that tells you the spark has become real enough to need a body to finish what it started.

And then it reaches the sexual organs. This is where I want to slow down. Once we give ourselves a permission: permission to create with the rising frequency and not release it. To let the charge build without discharge, the way a painter builds a canvas in layers instead of finishing it in one stroke. This is where the MsTantrica force lives, not in the climax, but in the discipline to remain in the unfinished brushstroke a little longer, to let the frequency keep vibrating because you trust that the art is better for the wait. Edging is the same patience the artist has when she doesn't rush the final line, because she knows the painting isn't done being born yet.

Trance of the Flow, Trance of Creation

From the clinical chair, Whatever gets consistently paired with shame in the early childhood years gets filed away as dangerous material, flagged by the critical mind, and kept from conscious awareness for the sake of "protection." Menstruation is one of the most universally conditioned biological events a person can go through, taught in euphemisms, blue liquid in commercials standing in for what is actually deep RED truth.

Trance is not only the state a hypnotherapist guides a client into on a couch. It is the state an artist enters when the hand starts moving faster than the conscious mind can supervise it. It is the state a lover enters when touch stops being a decision and becomes a current. Flow and trance are the same doorway. When the subconscious mind is finally permitted to stop editing the body — hers, his, its own creation moves without the drag of old shame behind it. That is the trance of the flow. That is the trance of creation.

Remember Your True Inner Art

Look around you today, just for a moment, and notice where the art already is. It is in the pulse at your own wrist, It is in the deepest intelligence of your body, the part that builds and sheds and rebuilds on a rhythm older than any calendar. It is in the hands of a lover who has finally stopped editing you into something easier to hold. It is in the blood, the ink, the skin, the page — all of it the same material wearing different names depending on which moment of your life is asking to be witnessed.

Then you choose : are you the temple that closes its doors in shame? Or Are you the temple that finally, on your own timing, lets someone all the way through.

This is how my own list started. It got then wilder, completely unconcerned with how it sounds out loud…

I started writing my 100 Ways I Love Him when I went back through my certification course on Love, Sex and Intimacy at HMI College of Hypnotherapy, taught by Linda Bloom, LCSW, and Charlie Bloom, MSW. What stayed with me wasn't only the material and certification , it was also the way these two, married and practicing love for decades, still looked at each other with so much love and reverence. The "100 Ways I Love You" technique is theirs, and I've borrowed it ever since, using it with my own clients as a way to drop them into the intimate field with their partner and let them speak in full honesty and openness.

This piece is an invitation to say it. Specifically. One hundred times. Especially for those who feel love has slipped into the routine of everyday hustle, becoming an unspoken current beneath the mundane life.

Before it is a sentence, love is a sensation. And so Before you can write "I love the way you laugh with your whole body," you have to go back into your body and feel the laugh again. Allow yourself to let the memory move through your body.

This is why the practice works. Making a list of one hundred specific things you love about someone isn't a writing exercise. It's a somatic one. Each item you write is a small return trip into your own pleasure — the pleasure of having been loved by them, of having watched them, of having chosen them. You are now re-entering it, cell by cell.

Try this before you pick up the pen: sit for a moment and drop your attention into your belly. Breathe there. Let it soften. This is the place from which the truest items on your list will come — not "you're supportive," which lives in the head, but "the way your hand finds the small of my back without looking," which lives in the body and only the body could have noticed.

The heart writes the list

Once the body has opened, the heart takes the pen.

You can start where it's easy. The physical things: the smile, the eyes, the particular way they say your name. These are not shallow entry points; they are doorways. The body sees the beloved before the mind understands them, and there is nothing lesser about beginning there.

Then let the list deepen. Move from what you see to what you've received. Every act of courage they've shown you. Every time they stayed present when it would have been easier to leave the room, physically or emotionally, the moment of pleasures they gave.

Go back to the beginning. Of the thousands of people you could have loved, you loved this one. What drew you? Seat with that question until an honest answer rises, not the answer you've told at dinner parties for years, but the one underneath it. Often it's something the person still is, right now, today : perhaps you've just stopped naming it out loud.

And go further still. What have you learned from loving them? Who have you become in their presence that you might not have become alone? Gratitude is one of the most demanding forms of attention there is, because it requires you to actually look.

You do not have to reach one hundred in a single sitting. That's fine. The list is allowed to be a living document : something you return to and add a line to when you notice something new. In fact, the ongoing noticing is half the practice. The list becomes a habit of attention, not a one-time performance.

The mind knows why this works

Here is the clinical piece, the part your nervous system will thank you for even if your inner cynic rolls its eyes.

The subconscious mind does not organize itself the way the conscious mind likes to believe it does: through grand declarations, big anniversaries, the occasional "I love you" tossed off in passing. The subconscious is built by repetition and by emotional imprints . It responds to detail the way a lock responds to the exact cut of a key. A vague compliment slides off; a precise one lodges. "I love you" is lovely and true and also, over years can become background noise the mind stops registering. "I love the way you get quietly stubborn when you're protecting someone you care about" cannot be background noise. It's too particular to ignore.

This is also why writing the list is often more powerful than speaking it aloud, though both have their place. A written list is a fixed structure the subconscious can return to and re-absorb, again and again, each time reinforcing the neural pathway that says I am specifically, thoroughly seen by someone I have specifically, thoroughly chosen. Over time, this rewires the baseline. Appreciation stops being an event and starts being an operating condition of the relationship.

I personally grew up in home where affection was implied rather than spoken: where love was assumed to be obvious and therefore didn't need saying. If that was your home, this practice will feel foreign at first, maybe even a little indulgent. That resistance is worth noticing. The pattern of withheld affirmation is learned, which means it can be unlearned, one specific, written, spoken sentence at a time.

How to actually do it

If you're doing this alone: set aside real time: twenty, thirty minutes, no phone. Write freely. Don't edit for how it sounds. The goal isn't literary; the goal is the truth .

If you're doing this with a partner: take turns. One person reads their list, or as much of it as they have, while the other simply receives it; no interrupting, no deflecting with a joke, no immediately reciprocating. Just receive. Let it land. Being fully received while being fully seen is its own kind of intimacy, separate from and every bit as potent as sex.

Afterward, if you're both moved to, say what the exercise stirred in you, and how do you feel , Then let it rest. You don't have to do anything else with it. The list itself is the medicine.

Consider putting the finished lists somewhere you'll encounter them again: a drawer or fridge you open often, an anniversary tradition, a note to reread on the hard days when the specifics are exactly what you'll need to remember.

Great love is rarely built from the big romantic gestures we're taught to chase. It's built from ten thousand small acts of being seen , and a practice like this one is simply a container for pouring that seeing back out, on purpose, in writing, so it can be received twice: once when it happened, and once again now.

I was twenty years old when relocated from Armenia to Russia with my musician boyfriend — the man who taught me what intimacy was, what sexuality was, what it meant to open my body and my life to another person for the first time. He was also the one who taught me what betrayal was.

I remember the day clearly. I had an intuitive pull to leave the office and come home early, no reason I could name, just a current moving me toward the door. I walked into our apartment and found him in the shower with a sixteen-year-old girl.

I didn't understand, in that moment, what that day would cost me. It would take two decades before I could see the full shape of it: how that single afternoon became the architect of every guard I built around every intimate relationship I had afterward. How my body learned, at twenty, that opening leads to devastation, and how quietly, invisibly, it kept that lesson running underneath every "I love you" I heard for years.

Looking back now, I can call it a blessing because it became the beginning of everything I now teach. I never had someone to show me how to come back into my body after betrayal, how to trust touch again, how to love my body again, how to tell the difference between the fear that protects and the fear that imprisons. I had to find my own way back. And that is exactly why I feel the pull to speak about all of this now — the things I never had a guide for, before I finally learned to live in my body again.

The Intelligence of the Belly

The belly is where connection either opens or clenches shut, long before the mind catches up. When someone gets close enough to touch what's real in you, the gut tightens, the breath shortens, the pelvis pulls away from the very contact it's been aching for. it might be an old, intelligent contraction as I used to have when my body was thinking that softness was met with harm, and choosing, in this instant, to close rather than risk it again. The path back is a small, repeated permission: letting a hand rest on the belly without recoiling, staying present through one more breath than feels comfortable, letting the exhale be the thing that says you're safe enough to open, just this much.

What Fear Actually Is

From the clinical seat, fear of intimacy is a conditioned response stored below conscious awareness, in the subconscious mind, where the critical faculty that normally filters incoming experience gets bypassed. Somewhere, at some point, closeness was paired with a real threat: judgment, betrayal, engulfment, loss. The subconscious mind, whose only job is to protect you and keep you consistent with what it already believes to be true, filed that pairing away as a rule. It doesn't know the difference between the partner in front of you now and the person who hurt you then. It just knows the pattern: closeness led to pain, so closeness is dangerous. Fearlessness, then, is the capacity to feel it firing and choose intimacy anyway — clarity and intention held steady even while the body remembers.

The Many Flavors of Fear

Fear of intimacy rarely announces itself by name. It hides inside more specific, more personal fears — and naming them precisely is what starts to loosen their grip. You may recognize yourself in some of these: the fear of being left, or the mirror fear of being the one who leaves. The fear of being swallowed whole by another person's needs, of losing the self inside the merger. The fear of being truly known and found ordinary, or worse, found unlovable once the performance drops away. The fear that what you whisper in the dark will be repeated, judged, or used against you later. The fear that closeness will cost you your freedom, your independence, the parts of your life you built when no one was watching. The fear that opening will bring up a version of yourself you've been in denial about, one your own self-image can't yet hold. The fear, simply, of being disappointed in: of watching someone's face change when they see all of you.

These and many others can be registered in your subconscious related with your senses as well as engrams. The color of shirt you were wearing when your heart got shuttered , the smell of th room, the perfume they were wearing, the specific taste you had in your mouth and so one , they all create associations in your brain and body. Intimacy asks for something no other experience asks for: emotional disarmament. The laying down of the pretense we use to move safely through the rest of the world. Once you can name your particular flavor of fear, it stops being a formless dread and becomes something you can actually work with.

Building the Capacity to Stay

Here is what the mind rarely wants to admit: courage is built through repeated, small acts of staying present with what frightens you. Each time you step toward the very thing that scares you , speaking the truth, asking for what you want, letting someone see you cry : you strengthen your capacity for intimacy. Each time you retreat, you reinforce the old pattern instead. It's simply how the nervous system learns.

If you can identify your fear, you can begin working with it in small, deliberate doses — much the way an inoculation works, a brief, manageable exposure that builds tolerance over time. If your fear is abandonment, that might mean choosing short stretches of solitude on purpose, without your usual distractions, starting with minutes and building toward hours. If your fear is engulfment, it might mean practicing saying one honest "no" inside a relationship and staying to watch that the world doesn't end. Most of what we fear in intimacy never actually happens : it is anticipation, not reality, that holds us hostage. And the truth is, disapproval rarely destroys us the way we imagine it will. We survive being seen far more often than we survive staying hidden.

An Invitation Into the Body: Visualizing the Intimacy You Actually Want

Before you can build toward real intimacy, it helps to know, in specific sensory detail, what you're building toward. Vague longing keeps you stuck in the ache. Specificity gives your nervous system and your subconscious something concrete to move toward.

Take a few slow breaths and let a picture form of what emotionally intimate connection would actually feel like for you. Feel its texture. What does the eye contact feel like? What tone of voice is being used with you? What is actually being said, and how much time and unhurried presence surrounds it? Where are your bodies, and what does the physical setting feel like around you? Let yourself notice what emotions rise as this picture becomes clear : tenderness, relief, arousal, grief for what you haven't yet had. All of it belongs.

You can do this as a quiet inner meditation, as a journaling practice you return to and refine over time, or as a shared exercise with a partner, offering each other full, undivided attention as you speak your visions aloud. Often this exercise surfaces memory: a moment of real closeness you'd forgotten you'd already tasted. Let that memory move through you. It is proof this is possible, and proof your body already knows the way.

The Heart's Real Bet

Underneath every flavor of fear is a single, quiet bet the heart is making: that this person, this closeness, is worth the risk of being disarmed. Sacred intimacy has never been about the absence of vulnerability. It is vulnerability, chosen on purpose, offered as a gift rather than extracted as a demand. When two people meet in that offering, undefended, seen, and still reaching toward each other finally both nervous systems exhale.

There is no true exchange of love while either of you is possessed by fear. But as you loosen fear's grip, your capacity for connection widens on its own.

Why I'm Telling You This

I could have let that day in Russia close me forever. For a long time, I think it did — quietly, in ways I couldn't name until decades later, when I finally looked back and saw the shape of the guard I'd been wearing since I was twenty. But I don't regret the years it took me to find my way back into my body. I needed them. They are the reason I can sit across from you now and recognize your particular flavor of fear before you've even said its name.

If you are carrying your own version of that shower room, your own moment when closeness turned to devastation, and you decided, somewhere below your own awareness, that you would never let it happen again, I want you to know it can be different now. The guard you built kept you alive. It is not required to keep you alone forever. Fear doesn't have to disappear for love to enter. It simply has to stop being the one holding the door.

You are allowed to come back into your body. You are allowed to be touched again without flinching, to be known again without bracing for the exit. This is the work I've given my life to, because it's the work that gave me my life back. As I was helping my clients to evolve in their spiritual depth and flavors of happiness, I realized I was helping my own self to recognize and stay with the flavors of my own fear.

The bathroom smells of rose, the washing gel and then the oil she rubbed into her skin after the shower, all of it moving through the room as she walks. Blue lotus incense curls into the mixture, and her mind, the sapiosexual part of it that never fully stops working, catalogs each note out of old habit. Water still beads on the tile. A candle burns low near the burgundy silk laid across the floor. Under her tongue, the last trace of the tincture dissolves, small, bitter, barely a dose, enough to loosen the walls between her thinking mind and whatever waits beneath it.

He kneels behind her with the red rope coiled in his palms like the snake would coil . Neither of them speaks. They have learned, over many scenes together, that the first words belong to breath. She came into this room carrying a question, the way she always does. Some part of her already knows the plant medicine micro-dose that she just took will loosen the question from its careful phrasing and let it arrive as sensation instead of sentence. Tonight the question is:

How can Fear become Pleasure?

His first loop settles across her collarbone, light as a suggestion. He pulls it snug, testing, and she exhales feeling her body anchored. The second loop crosses beneath her breasts, and this one he draws tighter, a full note held a beat longer than the last, and she feels her ribs answer it, expanding harder against the rope to meet him. Layer by layer he works down her torso, each pass a phrase in a song only her skin can hear, tension and release, tension and release, the rope learning the shape of her the way a hand learns an instrument it has played many   times before.

Nowhere to be but here. No name to answer to. No archetype waiting to be worn correctly. And still, somehow, she is all of them. Captive. Priestess. Animal. Child. The rope does not ask her to choose.

He lifts her, positions her so her weight hangs partly from the point above and partly from her own bent knees, and for a moment her whole body goes still in a way that isn't peace. It's bracing.

-This is too tight. My spine, my fluid, it can't move like this, I'm going to cramp, I've read about this, I know how this works —

The thinking mind arrives exactly on schedule, uninvited, wearing its clinical coat, It always does. She has learned not to fight it, only to notice it standing at the door of the scene, knocking.

-Fear is Failure ; She hears the voice of Anubis, whispering in her ear, this whisper allowed her to arrive again in the scene where she once was blindfolded , in the chamber of initiation, where she saw nothing but darkness , hearing Anubis s voice in her heart.

-Fear is Failure, My Love , her partner whispers in her left ear. Then the whip finds her. She breathes into it instead of away from it.

Each stroke leaves its own kind of red across her skin, and rather than fighting the sensation into something bearable, she does what the chamber taught her in the dark: she breathes the pleasure into each pore the redness touches, lets the sting translate itself, contact rather than injury, proof rather than punishment.

Fear is only ever a gap in information, and her body is closing that gap in real time, stroke by stroke, breath by breath.

-Are you okay?- he asks, pausing, his voice pulling her partway back from wherever she'd gone.

She is. She's more than okay. She's living inside his care the way she's living inside the sting itself, no separation between the concern in his voice and the kisses he presses next against each reddened place, and even as her body registers all of it here, in this room, some other part of her is dancing, unmistakably, in the temple of Isis, robes moving in a wind that isn't in this room at all, held by a goddess who has never once asked her to choose between devotion and pleasure, because for Isis they were always the same offering.

She can hear inner teacher’s voice unbothered, amused at how quickly this body remembers what it already knew:

You already crossed this threshold once, blindfolded, in the dark, with strangers holding the walls steady around you. You know how to do this. The only thing different tonight is that you can see…

-The fear was only ever a gap, and it now can close, she writes down , and starts pondering again on the topic.

Pleasure and fear share a doorway. They always have. The mystics who built chambers with fire, water , bread and red wine in the shrine The lovers who tie rope and swing leather in rooms lit by a single candle know it too, whether or not they'd ever call themselves mystics.

Life is a playground. Nobody believes it at the age they're first told. Sometimes you have to walk blindfolded through a room before the sentence stops sounding like a platitude and starts sounding like the truest thing anyone ever told you.

From a neuroscience perspective

fear and pleasure are distinct experiences, but they can activate overlapping systems in the brain and body. Both involve heightened arousal: increased heart rate, adrenaline, focused attention, and activation of motivational circuits. That’s one reason why experiences like roller coasters, horror movies, extreme sports, or consensual BDSM can feel thrilling, once the brain determines the situation is safe, physiological arousal can be interpreted as excitement or pleasure.

From a psychological perspective

fear and desire can sometimes be closely linked. Both often arise at the edge of the familiar. Falling in love, being deeply vulnerable, performing on stage, or making a life-changing decision can feel both terrifying and exhilarating. In that sense, fear and pleasure may share a “doorway”: stepping into uncertainty.

From a spiritual or symbolic perspective

many traditions speak of transformation occurring at the threshold of what we fear. They don’t necessarily claim fear and pleasure are the same, but rather that moving consciously through fear can open us to greater aliveness, intimacy, freedom, or joy.

So I sure wouldn’t say fear and pleasure are identical. Rather, they can sometimes emerge from the same state of heightened arousal or from crossing the same threshold. The meaning we assign to the experience, the context, and whether we feel safe all influence whether that energy is experienced as fear, excitement, pleasure, or some combination of them.

Darkness, where shall we meet?
Perhaps in the shadows of fear as anger, jealousy, hunger, surrender…?
While you let them move through, washing yourself in the tears of endless rivers,
Hecate shows up to hold your spine ,

while you surrender to those waters divine…

Hecate, She has stood at the place where the road splits into three since before Olympus had a name for her, and she has never once asked the dark to explain itself. She simply lights the torch and walks in.

Most gods of light “come down” to rescue you from shadow. Hecate is not one of them. She is already inside it, waiting, torch raised, when you arrive. She does not pull you out of the underworld. She walks beside you through it, at the pace your body can actually bear, because she knows the descent is not a mistake to be corrected. It is the terrain itself.

The Greeks placed her at crossroads, at doorways, while going through birth and death. Waking and dream. The person you were and the one being formed in you right now, in the dark. She held her twin torches not to banish the dark but to make it navigable, to say you can see enough to take the next step, and it is enough.

This is the medicine so many of us never received. We were taught that darkness is the enemy of the sacred. Hecate teaches the opposite. Darkness is where the sacred gestates. Every seed germinates blind, underground, in soil it cannot see. Your shadow is not separate from your wholeness. It is the compost your wholeness is rooted in.

The Belly Knows Her First

Before the mind can philosophize about shadow, the belly already lives there. Hunger lives in the belly. Grief lives in the belly. The rage you were told to swallow at eleven years old is still coiled low in your gut, waiting for a priestess who won’t flinch from it.

This is Hecate’s first terrain. Not the head. The low, wet, animal cave of the pelvis and womb, the place the ancients called her sacred hollow, the place where her black dogs bay and her serpents move through root and soil. When you feel that ache low in your belly at 3am, the one that has no name, the one that just wants to be held and also wants to devour, That is Hecate’s terrain lighting up, asking you to stop managing your hunger and start meeting it.

Sink into that ache the way you would sink into a lover’s arms after a long absence. Let your belly soften instead of clench. Let the exhale drop all the way down past your navel, into the bowl of your hips, and feel , feel how much aliveness has been waiting there, disguised as something you were told to fear.

The Heart That Learns to Love What It Cannot Control

Here is where the descent becomes devotional. Hecate does not ask you to love your shadow in the abstract, the way a self-help book asks you to. She asks you to love it the way you love a person, imperfectly, in the dark, without full visibility, trusting the relationship more than the clarity.

This is what it means to meet her. Not once, in a single cathartic ritual, but again and again, at every threshold your life presents. The heart that has been burned learns to close. Hecate’s torch is an invitation to reopen, not because the burning won’t happen again, but because the closed heart is a kind of death that arrives long before the body’s. She stands at the crossroads of your grief and your longing and she does not rush you through either one. She simply keeps the torch lit so love can find its way back to you, slowly, on its own timeline, the way all real love arrives.

To love what you cannot fully see, in yourself or in another, is the beginning of every sacred marriage. It is the practice of staying present at the threshold instead of fleeing toward false light. Your shadow becomes your intimacy teacher the moment you stop treating it as the thing to be fixed before love is allowed to happen.

From a clinical hypnotherapy lens, this tracks precisely what happens in trance work, and it also tracks in the architecture of the brain itself. The reticular activating system, tucked deep in the brainstem, is your literal gatekeeper deciding what crosses from unconscious processing into conscious awareness. Hecate is in the tissue, standing to watch at the threshold every single moment of your waking life. Hypnagogia, that drowsy theta between waking and sleep where the critical mind finally loosens its grip, is her natural hour, and it is also the exact state every hypnotherapist guides a client into during induction.

And the amygdala, threshold guardian of fear and rage, does not need to be tamed into silence. It needs to be witnessed. The subconscious mind, where the majority of our conditioning, protective patterns, and unprocessed emotion actually live, cannot be reasoned with by the conscious, critical mind alone. It has to be met, gently, at the gate, the way Hecate meets the descending soul, with permission rather than force. This is why so much talk therapy alone cannot fully metabolize old wounds. It stays in the daylight world of language while the wound lives in the underworld of the body, exactly where she keeps her watch.

And here is the playful secret underneath all of it. None of this requires mastery. It only requires wonder. The moment you get curious about your own gates instead of guarding them, you have already stepped into her playground, torch in hand, exactly as you are.

Reverence at the Crossroads

Hecate is often called a goddess of witchcraft, and she is, but witchcraft in her original sense simply meant the person who has direct relationship with the unseen, while going to the dark to thyself and coming back with knowledge. This is the invitation underneath the myth. You do not need anyone, including me, to interpret your unconscious for you. You need only the willingness to walk toward it with a lit torch and a soft belly and a heart still open enough to be surprised.

She asks for offerings at the crossroads, historically bread, honey, garlic, the humble things. Not gold. Not perfection. She wants what is real and close at hand. Bring her your real hunger. Bring her your real grief. Bring her the anger you have been ashamed of. She has never once turned away anyone’s shadow. She has only ever asked that it be brought to her honestly, in the dark, where all real transformation actually happens.

In the blood your ancestors passed to you, and the beliefs about enough and never enough you created with it… The adrenal glands, seated just above your kidneys at the base of this current, are the literal architecture of Can I survive here. They flood you with cortisol and adrenaline the instant safety is questioned, sexual charge, ancestral memory, and financial fear, all braided into one chemical current…

The cerebrospinal fluid that bathes your brain travels down through the central canal of your spine to reach this very region, the same fluid, the same root, the same signal, all the way down. It governs bone, blood, adrenal output, the nervous system that decided, long before language, whether this earth and this lineage can hold you…

This is why the manifestation teachings fail often. They ask you to visualize abundance from a nervous system that has never once felt safe, carrying a lineage that never once felt safe either. They ask the mind to dream big while the root is still screaming small, hide, hoard, run, a scream that isn’t even fully yours… Can you think your way into wealth if your bloodline is still running the holograms of fearful ancestors? The root listens to evidence.

And when the root is starved, when the rent is late, when the safety net has holes you can see through, when the lineage behind you never once knew abundance either, it does either of two things. It floods. Overactive root: hyper vigilant, hoarding, gripping, controlling, calculating, unable to receive a gift or a lover’s touch without suspicion. Or it shuts down. Deactivated root: dissociated from money entirely, vague about numbers, numb in the body, “spiritual” about poverty, floating above the body because the body has learned that grounding here hurts too much.

Directly above this current, one hand-width up, sit the gonads, ovaries, testes, the glands that produce the hormones of pleasure, attraction, and creative fire. The seat of flow, of yes, of the wet and the warm and the wanting. The same cerebrospinal fluid that signals the adrenal glands to brace continues its descent here too. One fluid, one spine, one current, carrying either the chemistry of fear or the chemistry of desire depending on what the body believes is true.

Here is a picture of a yantra older than money itself, nine triangles locked in sacred intersection, five descending as Shakti, four rising to meet her as Shiva, radiating outward from a single point of origin: the bindu. The Tantrikas called it Sri Yantra, the instrument of wealth, and this is not a metaphor for your body, your body is this geometry. Your belly is the bindu, the unspoken point from which your desire, your worth, and your wealth all originate before they ever reach your mind.

(Hypnotherapist’s note: the subconscious does not process money in numbers, it processes money in feeling-states, encoded the same way phobias and core wounds are, often before age seven. A symbol like the Sri Yantra works the way any hypnotic anchor works, giving the subconscious a clean, repeatable image to organize a new feeling-state around, bypassing the old “money is dangerous” script entirely.) So trace it slowly, let your breath travel down into the belly first, the seat of Shakti, before it rises to meet the stillness of Shiva at your crown, and let your own pelvis remember it is the origin point, not the obstacle, of everything you call wealth.

I used to think that money is serious, cold, masculine, mental, a matter of spreadsheets and willpower. And pleasure is a matter of indulgence and guilt. So the root hardened into anxiety and the gonads got exiled into shame, and the two glands that were built to flow into one another instead built a wall between them.

Look at the oldest images of wealth… The ancient goddesses of abundance were never painted in austerity. They arrive dripping in gold, adorned, seated in open-palmed offering, pouring coins with the same gesture a lover uses to pour wine. The goddess of wealth and the goddess of erotic radiance were the same figure wearing different jewelry.

What Balance Actually Feels Like

Balance is not “having enough money to feel pleasure.” That is the bargain the overactive root makes when it says: once I’m secure, then I’ll let myself enjoy.

Balance is the root trusting the ground enough to let the gonads move. It is survival settling into the bones long enough that the hips can soften. It is the difference between counting your money with clenched jaw and counting your money the way you’d trace a finger down a lover’s spine: present, unhurried, in gentle erotic relationship rather than at war with it.

Without the heart, abundance curdles into hoarding and pleasure curdles into hunger that never satisfies. With the heart, the same gold that filled your palm becomes something you can finally give from your overflow. The root grounds you. The gonads animate you. The heart is what makes it mean something.

The Practice Beneath the Article

Whenever it feels appropriate, allow yourself to place one hand low on your belly, beneath the navel, and the other hand at the base of your spine, from behind you… Do not visualize a number. Do not visualize a vision board. Simply ask the body: what does safety feel like in this body, right now?

Let the answer be sensation, warmth, breath slowing, jaw unlocking.

Wealth that begins here in trust, in feeling, in the root finally exhaling, becomes wealth the body knows how to keep. You were never meant to choose between the sacred and the sensual, between the secure and the alive. You were meant to let them marry. That marriage is the actual root of abundance, parts of your own body finally willing to trust each other again.

The gold is waiting for the root to soften enough to receive it.

This is your remembrance. Begin there.

You already know edging: the wave you ride and ride, choosing again and again not to crest. That was self-governed surrender. What we're opening today is a different room in the same temple: denial. Not a moment of restraint, but a season of it.

We know pleasure as oracle: the orgasm as a message from the deeper self. But orgasm is also a closing. It delivers its message and then, often, scrambles the signal in the very act of releasing it. Denial removes the closing, so the message simply keeps arriving, day after day, undiluted, unedited. This is the edge sharper than edging: edging asks the body a question. Denial makes the body live inside the answer, and you don't get to interrupt the transmission with release. The wanting doesn't fade. It has nowhere to go. So it moves. It finds another route : up the spine, into the hands, into the voice, into whatever you make with your hands while your body hums beneath the surface like a held note.

It's worth naming honestly: the device itself, the cage, the belt, the lock, has no real home in tantric tradition. That lineage is Western, medieval and modern both, an object built to hold the body when the will alone couldn't be trusted to. What tantra actually carries is older and lives nowhere but inside you. It's called brahmacharya, and it was never simple celibacy. It's the art of conserving sexual energy, ojas, rather than discharging it, and letting that energy redirect itself upward instead of spilling out and away. The yogis who practiced this held their own lock. No metal, no key handed to another. Just breath, will, and a trained relationship with their own rising heat.

This changes what the modern cage actually is. It isn't the ancient practice, it's a shortcut to it, a training wheel for a discipline the old practitioners built through years of sheer internal mastery. When ojas is redirected instead of released, it doesn't vanish. It moves up through the body the way water finds a new channel when the old one closes, feeding clarity, creative fire, presence, the felt sense of being more here than you were before you started. The device can help a beginner feel the shape of that redirection before their own will is strong enough to hold it alone. But the real practice, the one tantra actually teaches, was never about the lock. It was about becoming so devoted to your own rising energy that you no longer needed one.

Surrendering the Key Is Surrendering the Question

When you edge alone, you are still the interpreter of your own signal, you feel the wave, and you choose. But when you hand over the key, someone else holds the "yes." That is a psychic outsourcing of desire itself, and it is one of the oldest doorways into surrender there is.

To hand someone your key is to say: I trust you more than I trust my own impatience.

Not every hand is steady enough to be trusted with that. Which is exactly why the ones who are, become sacred to you. Maybe this is why we build the cage willingly, even eagerly. Not because we love confinement — because we love, so deeply, what confinement makes possible on the other side of it. The door we ask another to lock is the same door we trust them to eventually open. And that trust, that handing-over, is its own kind of freedom….

The subconscious mind, unable to resolve the tension through immediate action, redirects that energetic charge into other channels: creativity, focus, even the felt sense of devotion. Denial, practiced with consent and safety, is essentially a controlled study in nervous-system patience: teaching the body that wanting can be held, rather than always immediately discharged.

A Personal Thread

I will say this plainly, because it belongs here: with my lovers, edging has always been a devotional practice before it was ever a game. Not every man can hold that. Not every man can choose forty days of not touching himself, in devotion to a practice and to me, and stay steady inside it. The ones who could, who chose that on purpose, who let their own wanting become an offering rather than an inconvenience were given something rare in return. Privilege. Access to a version of intimacy that only exists on the other side of the time.

A Few Grounding Reminders

Every sacred practice needs a container sturdy enough to hold it. A few reminders, offered with love, before you step into this one:

Know which practice you're actually choosing. Edging is a wave within a single session — brink, pause, brink again, release when you decide. Denial is longer-form: hours, days, sometimes weeks with no release at all. They ask different things of the body and the psyche. Be honest with yourself and your partner about which one you're entering, so no one is surprised by what the practice actually asks of them.

Speak before you lock anything. Whatever form the practice takes: a device, a verbal agreement, a season of the moon , talk it through beforehand. Name your desires, your boundaries, and what you each need if either of you wants to pause or stop. This conversation is also the ritual, making the surrender afterward actually safe to fall into.

Start smaller than you think you need to. A day before a week. A week before forty. The nervous system builds trust in a practice the same way it builds trust in a person : gradually, through evidence that it's safe to go further.

Stay attentive to the body wearing the lock, not just the story around it. If a device is involved, physical comfort and safety come first, always — checking fit, checking skin, checking in verbally, especially in the early days.

Build in a way back to each other, every time.

The descent into denial is only half the ritual. Coming back together afterward, softly, is what completes it.

Freedom Was Always the Point

Here is the wider truth underneath all of it: every person gets to choose their own practice, on their own timeline, as part of their own sexual and soul evolution. No cage is prescribed. No timeline is required. The forty days, the locked device, the season of waiting: none of it is the goal. It is only ever the doorway.

We build these cages willingly, on purpose, because we know what waits on the other side of them: Sustained arousal , Higher elevated states of orgasmic bliss , remembering the Divine within and in the partners…. We hand our keys to the ones we trust, and that handing-over feels like freedom itself. But the biggest key was never the one made of metal. It lives in your heart, and in your mind: the part of you that decides, again and again, what devotion means to you, and who has earned the privilege of witnessing it.

The lovers who could find me in these states were never the ones who demanded I kneel. They were the ones who knew how to kneel themselves — the ones who could recognize the Goddess when She arrived, and lower their own head in honor of Her, not to possess Her.

This is the secret at the center of Dominance and Submission that almost no one names: true polarity was never a hierarchy. It was never about who kneels and who is knelt to. The masculine who can bow before the Goddess in his lover is not weakened by it — he is initiated by it. The feminine who lets herself be seen in that moment is not made small, she becomes the temple. What the world calls submission is, at its root, recognition. What the world calls dominance, at its highest form, is not control:

it is reverence held with a spine of steel.

The arousal sustained without release is a communion, with the Divine … This is what Aleister Crowley's Eroto-comatose Lucidity, documented around 1912 in his sex magic workings was illuminating… prolonged arousal held at its peak for hours, as a doorway into trance. Let us understand how the edging can be perceived : as sexual energy used not for climax but as a vehicle to part the veil between the self and the divine.

Many think

that pleasure has one destination. Release, climax, the “small death” — and then nothing. Edging is the practice of riding the wave without crashing it. You build arousal to the threshold of release, then withdraw through breath, through stillness, through the simple act of not touching , and let the charge redistribute through the whole body instead of discharging through the genitals alone. The belly becomes the keeper of this energy. It pools there, low and warm, before you choose whether to let it rise or let it fall.

There are several gates into this practice. The start-stop method is the most direct: arousal climbs, you stop completely, it settles, you begin again. Surfing is its more fluid cousin , instead of full stops, you hover at the edge, riding the crest without ever fully retreating, letting peak after peak roll through without collapse. Yet I am willing now to present these names as stages that any empath of any gender moves through in their own becoming. Someone you grow into. Your names for these stages might differ based on your belief system. Yet the unfolding is the same.

It begins with Eve. Not the Eve handed blame and an apple in the same breath… Eve is what happens the instant skin meets skin and the boundary between two people simply isn't there yet. A stranger's want rises in empath’s own belly before one can decide to let it. The lover's energy moves through you like it was always yours. You become lover’s pleasure because you trust.

I learned this trust in blindfolded initiation chambers of mystery school, in lover’s tent in the deserts, in the sands across the rivers where we would go naked in body , naked in hearts… in intimate settings with the lover, where I would trust the flow so much while working through old wounds with him beside me. While the medicine was moving inside us as the golden snake who knew more than we did with our conscious minds , taking us to deeper layers of our subconscious which had so many stories to tell…The identity that the “I” gave names was dissolving layer by layer , lover by lover , weaving a story that I can tell you now …

The Stage of Helen I also call the stage of Lilith , desired, watched, and not yet certain whether to perform for the gaze landing on her or simply belong to herself regardless of it. Every empath knows this stage intimately, because to be wanted that completely is its own kind of fire, and the question is always whether the fire consumes you or simply lights you from within. I found the difference once, mid-grief, when a voice inside me cut through everything I was feeling and told me : “enough crying now, own your crown”…

And when I started dancing and singing loudly with no thought for who might be watching, I understood what had shifted. The empath who has claimed her own crown doesn't stop being desired. She does not stop dancing, she is the Empress yet Priestess is always alive in her. ::She simply stops needing the desire to tell her who she is.

This is the lover every partner secretly hopes for —radiant enough to be wanted completely, sovereign enough that the wanting never owns you.

Then Mary, whose devotion has a texture most people mistake for passivity, when really it is desire's most mature expression: love given outward instead of only received, offered without losing a single drop of herself in the offering. The empath who reaches Mary's stage has learned the hardest lesson of all — that loving someone fully doesn't require disappearing into them. You can change the steps and never lose the dance. You can change the words and never lose the song.

This is the lover who can hold you through your worst nights and still wake up whole.

And then, somewhere in the middle of any of it, mid-pleasure, mid-laughter, mid-ritual, mid-ordinary-Tuesday — there is a single breath where an empath feels everything happening and watches thyself feeling it, both at once. This is Sophia, and she was never a fourth stop at the end of a ladder. She is the awareness that was capable of seeing the other three the entire time…

Some of you might think that pleasure is supposed to erase awareness — that losing yourself completely is the whole point of wanting and being wanted. But the deepest pleasure a body can hold isn't the one that sweeps every trace of you away. It is the one you are fully inside and fully witnessing at the same time — breathing, alive, calm… watching the wave without needing to stop it or drown in it.

The Greek gods did not unite two beings. They revealed what was never split.

Hello dear Reader,

There is a pool in the Greek story. A boy named Hermaphroditus bends over its surface to look at his own reflection. He is the son of Hermes, the messenger who moves between worlds, and Aphrodite, desire itself, the force that pulls bodies toward each other before the mind has a vote.

His name already carries both of theirs fused into one — I call this state HermAphrodite, wisdom and want, born already whole. Salmacis, a nymph who has never wanted anyone, sees him and wants him on sight. When he enters the water, she wraps around him and not willing to let go. She prays to the gods that they never be pulled apart — and the gods fuse them together . Hermaphroditus rises from that pool neither boy nor girl, both at once, and the story has been told for centuries as a punishment — a body made strange, a unity treated as a wound.

The Memory Before the Split

Long before Hermaphroditus, before Greece had a story for what happened in that pool, the Gnostics told a different version of the same event.

In the beginning there was a fullness — a Pleroma — and within it, paired emanations: Father-Mother, depth and silence, mind and truth, each aeon whole and twofold at once. Nothing in that first field needed a partner to complete it. Wholeness was the starting condition.Then Sophia descended.

Sophia, the Gnostic figure of divine wisdom itself, the youngest and boldest of those paired emanations, the one who did what none of the others dared. Not as a fall to be redeemed. She lowered herself the way a woman lowers herself into warm water on purpose — wisdom thickening into flesh because flesh was always where it meant to arrive. She is the first HermAphrodite, the original body that needed no other half: wholeness that chose density, fullness that chose form, desire and knowing fused into one descending current long before Hermes and Aphrodite ever gave their names to a son.

Matter, the body, the ache you carry — none of it is residue from something broken. It is the substance of wisdom choosing to become tangible. The wound was never the body. There was never a wound. There was only wisdom, reaching down into form on purpose, still moving in you every time you ache toward another, toward the earth, toward your own skin.

Your Own Architecture

Your body carries the same memory. I know this one from within me, not from a text. There was a season when I had to find the masculine in my own chest — not borrow it from a man, not wait for one to arrive and hand it to me, but locate the part of me that could hold structure, direction, fire, and let it stand at full strength beside everything in me that already knew how to flow, surrender, receive. I did not blend them into something softer and safer. I let them both stay sharp.

When I rise in my own frequency and let that inner fire take its full shape, I feel myself as Hermes — the one who thinks, the one who moves with intention, the current that decides and directs. It often becomes the same fire in the body that desires to take, to dominate, to lead another into surrender. Dominance is not opposed to the feminine in me. It is what the masculine in me does when it is fully lit.

When my partner allows my fire to land , meeting me in His/Her depth, that allows my Aphrodite desires to flow on a broader spectrum of light, so that our dominance and submission can become a dance … Both are full voltage. I do not become one to access the other; I am the pool both gods already met in. And so is my partner …

That is the part nobody tells us: integration is not dilution. The masculine in you does not get quieter so the feminine can be louder. Both poles get to stay at full voltage, in the same body, at the same time. That tension is the aliveness.

This is the work I hold with clients now — not smoothing two currents into a lukewarm middle, but helping each person find both poles inside themselves at full strength, so that whoever they meet, they meet as a whole current, not a half looking for its missing piece.

The Return

So here is what the myths were pointing at the whole time, under two different skies, in two different tongues. Hermaphroditus was never punished. He was returned to what Sophia's descent had already proven: the body was never split. Separation was always the illusion layered on top of something that had been whole from the start.

This changes what UNION means, between two people who have done this inner work. You do not come together to become whole. The old reach for a missing piece outside yourself was never the truth of you. You come together already whole, the way Sophia was whole before she ever chose to descend, and what happens between you is not completion. It is recognition. Two full currents meeting, each holding their own polarity at full strength, generating something neither could generate alone — and two wholes in contact make a third thing: Charge, Current of Creation.

That is the erotic charge worth building a life around. Not the hunger of two halves searching for each other. The recognition of two wholes who stopped pretending they were ever split.

For the Lovers Who Are Building This Together

There is a version of this for two — where each of you locates your own undivided ground first, and then meets the other not as a rescue, not as the piece you were missing, but as a second whole current standing in full polarity beside yours. The body cannot tell the difference between being loved and choosing, finally, to love. Yet it knows the quality of attention. Whether it is being looked at like a temple, or rushed through like a task.

The Ritual: Meeting Yourself

Choose a night that belongs to no one else.

Bring flowers — not to just decorate the room, but to remind your skin what softness feels like. Bring the oil that turns your own touch into ceremony. Let the air smell like a beginning.

Undress slowly, the way you would want to be undressed , as if there is nowhere else you need to be.

Stand before the mirror. And first meet your own eyes. Hold the gaze longer than feels comfortable. Let yourself be the one who stays. Let yourself be seen by the only witness who was ever truly required.

This shoulder, that carried more than it should have. This belly, soft proof that you are alive and breathing and here. Speak it if you can. Let your hands follow wherever your eyes have already blessed. Let the oil go where the praise goes.

This is where the senses return. Most of us left the body long ago — too much judgment, too much performance, too much being watched instead of seen. The ritual is the slow walk back in.

Smell, until the nervous system believes it is safe. Touch, until warmth becomes a language again. Sound — your own breath, deepening, the way it only deepens for someone trusted completely.

Then let your eyes travel down, slow as a hand. Not searching for flaws to correct — searching for what there is to adore.

What Else to Bring

• Music with no lyrics — something that moves like water, so thought has nowhere to grip

• A low, warm light — candle or amber bulb.

• Something soft to stand or kneel on — a rug, a folded blanket so the body knows it has been prepared for

• A small mirror vow — one sentence, repeated to your reflection: I take you, exactly as you are.

• Time, unmeasured — no clock in view. Sacred marriages are never rushed

• Silence afterward — a few minutes wrapped in a robe or blanket, letting the marriage settle before you re-enter the world.

This is the sacred marriage. Not self-love as a concept. A vow, taken in front of a mirror, naked, scented, slow: I will not wait to be loved like this. I will not outsource this kind of attention again.

You do not need to be chosen to be whole.
You were whole before the door ever opened,
before the mirror ever held your gaze,
before anyone called your name like it meant something.

Tonight, let it mean something to you first.

Let your own hands be the ones that arrive on time.
Let your own eyes be the ones that don't look away.
Let your own breath be the vow —
soft, unhurried, certain.

Hello Lovers of Life,

Let us start with the word Polarity today.

It comes from the Latin polus — a pole, an axis the whole world turns on. An axis. Something only becomes a pole when there is another pole to turn around. Alone, it's just a point in space. With its opposite, it becomes the thing that holds a planet in orbit.

That's the literal physics of what magnetism is, and it is also, almost exactly, what desire is.

So here's my reassurance, the same one I'd give any couple sitting across from me feeling like the spark, the erotic orgasmic charge quietly left the room. Dormant is not the same as gone. And the body that went quiet around your partner is the same body that's fully wired, right now, to come back online.

The old Hermetic teachers had a name for this law, three thousand years before anyone called it psychology. The Kybalion put it simply: everything has its pair of opposites, and the opposites aren't actually fighting each other — they're the same force, just at different degrees. Hot and cold aren't enemies. They're one continuum. So are masculine and feminine. The more distinct the two degrees stay, the stronger the pull between them. Collapse the distinction — get too similar, too predictable, too merged , and the current has nowhere to run.

Let us try something now. Bring your partner's face to your mind’s eye , not as they are when you're arguing about the dishes, but as a force. Ask your body, not only your mind: what do I actually know about who they are right now, in this season of their life? It's the very thing that makes the current run.

🌹You cannot rebuild the charge by staring at each other only.

You might think the fix is more time together, more talking, more staring meaningfully into each other's eyes at therapy.

But you can't restore your own pole by leaning on someone else's. You restore it by going home to yourself first.

There's an old initiatory text, The Most Holy Trinosophia, written by a mysterious alchemist who called himself the Comte de St. Germain. It maps the journey in three thresholds: the return to the body, the death of who you've been pretending to be, and finally, sacred union. As ONE spiral.

Before you can come back together with real charge, you each have to go down into your own depths, alone. He has to find his ground again — that steady, directional fire that doesn't need her permission to exist. She has to find her aliveness again — that current that moves through her whether or not anyone is watching.

Only then does the reunion mean anything.

So instead of a conversation tonight, take a body practice. Sit alone, spine long, and place both hands over your low belly. Breathe into your own pelvis like it is a temple no one else is allowed in yet. Ask it t speak to you . Stay until something answers — a sensation, a heat, a stillness. That is your pole. That is what you bring back to the union, not your performance of togetherness.

Safety is what we need to remember together

Place your palm flat against your partner's chest or low back, with no destination in mind. Hold it there long enough for both your breaths to slow and find each other. Say nothing, or simply, "I'm just landing here." This is the somatic vocabulary of safety, and safety, lovers, is what the erotic body builds its house on.

🌹Feel Safe to Speak the shape of your desires.

This means actually naming what excites you — including the parts that feel a little dangerous to say out loud. The fantasy you've never spoken. The thing you're curious about but haven't dared bring up. The kink that lives quietly in you, unexplored, because you weren't sure it would be welcome.

Polarity thrives on the charge of the unrevealed. So create a space, just the two of you, unhurried, and no expectation of where it leads , voicing your hidden desires, your deeper truths…

And once you know each other's edges, let yourselves play at them. Surprise each other. Step toward the thing that makes you a little nervous to offer — a message sent at an unexpected hour, a gesture outside your usual rhythm, something playful that breaks the script you've both been running on autopilot. That unpredictability is not chaos. It's oxygen for the pole.

🌹Let yourselves apart for a moment.

A pole that never gets to stand alone has nothing left to offer the other pole. If you are only ever merged with same hobbies, same friends, same Saturday night then it is time to reconsider .

So go do the thing that lights you up with no one watching. Dance, ride, create, move your body in a way that's entirely yours. Let your partner do the same, without guilt, without narrating it back to you in detail, to come back to each other a little fuller, a little more yourself — because that self is what they fell for in the first place…

Relaxation brings a deeper arousal.

Allow your self to relax deeply . Rest is not the opposite of passion. Rest is where your pole gets to recharge enough to mean something when you return to theirs.

Every time you stay curious instead of assuming, every time you touch without an agenda, every time you speak a true desire instead of swallowing it — you tell your own body, and theirs, that the axis is still there. Still worth turning around. Still alive.

Go within and down deep enough to bring it back up since it is never late . You're exactly as wired for this as you've always been. Stillness , relaxed space, feeling safe to share , spending maybe one night apart that lets you come back fuller.

That's the whole axis, lovers. It's been waiting on you.

We have always been told that the mind and the body live in separate houses.

Plato built the argument into the foundation of Western thought — the soma as prison of the psyche, the flesh as obstacle to truth. Philosophy, ever since, has been one long apology for having a body at all. We split ourselves in two, handed the mind a crown, and told desire to wait outside.

Isis never got that memo.

When Set murdered Osiris and scattered his body across fourteen pieces of Egypt but Isis did not philosophize his death. She searched.

This is the part the myth is trying to tell us and we keep reading past it: she didn't pray. She didn't transcend. She moved, through the particular madness of wanting someone back so completely that you will learn the geography of an entire country with your hands. Piece by piece she found him.
Heart. Hands. Spine. Ribs.
Thirteen fragments of the man she loved, reassembled by a woman who refused to let desire become only memory.

But the fourteenth piece , the phallus, was gone.
Eaten by a Nile fish. Lost to the river.

Here is where the myth becomes philosophy:

She made one.

From gold. From her own hands. From the force of wanting so precisely that absence became blueprint. She did not mourn what wasn't there. She invented what was needed, breathed life into it, and in doing so, they conceived Horus — god of sky, of vision, of what comes after grief.

This is the oldest recorded description of what desire actually is:

Intelligence with a body.
A mind so awake to what it loves that it creates rather than collapses.

The word sapiosexual is new. The condition is ancient.

There has always been a certain kind of person for whom attraction does not begin in the body. It begins somewhere behind the eyes, in the depth someone brings to a sentence, in the specific electricity of a mind that surprises you. Caressing the depth in you where understanding and pleasure are the same sensation.

This is what Isis was doing in her search and creation.

She was attending with the complete, embodied focus of someone for whom love and knowledge have always been the same practice. Every fragment she found was an act of comprehension. To understand the weight of his heart. To hold his spine and remember the architecture of Osiris.

The Egyptians called this ren — the true name. The belief that to know something's real name was to hold its essence. Isis knew Osiris's name in every register: his spoken name, his body's name, the name of his absence.

She knew him the way sapiosexuals know the ones they love:

completely, unglamourously, in pieces,
and they put you back together anyway.

The mirror, in Egyptian mystery school tradition, was how you encountered what was hidden. To look in the mirror was not to see your face — it was to see your nature. Your desire revealed your design.

The sapiosexual knows this mirror.

You discover who you are by what and whom you find beautiful.

The person who undresses you with a question.
Who makes your certainty feel provincial.
Who listens the way most people never look —

completely,
as though nothing you say will be wasted.

Desire is intelligence — the organism's most sophisticated assessment tool.

When you are moved by a mind, you are not being irrational. You are perceiving something real: coherence, depth, the specific gravity of a person who has thought their way through their own darkness and emerged with something to say.

Arousal, at its most fundamental, is recognition.

The nervous system saying: this. yes. more of this.

Not the body overriding the mind.
The body and mind finally agreeing.

Isis fashioned what she needed from gold
because gold does not corrode.
Because some desires are metallurgical —
they survive every element,
every flood,
every god who tries to scatter what you love.

She breathed into the absence
and it became the future.

This is what desire does
when it refuses to be only longing:

IT CREATES .

The most erotic thing a person can do
is think —really think in your presence.

Not perform intelligence.
Not cite and impress.

But think , alive, uncertain, reaching …
the way Isis moved through Egypt
looking for what she could not bear to lose,

knowing that when she found it,
even broken,
even incomplete,
she would know exactly
what to do.

Slow down.

Take one breath, let the air arrive. Feel your ribcage receive it. Feel your belly soften. Notice where your body is resisting and where it has already let go. You are not just reading this essay. You are beginning something.

Let your body know.

There is a gate that stands before every threshold worth crossing.

Before pleasure. Before wealth. Before the kind of spiritual expansion that doesn’t just move through your mind but reorganizes your cells.

That gate is not a practice. It is not a technique. It is not a mindset shift or a morning routine or a belief you reprogram with repetition.

The gate is the RELAXATION.

You might have difereht associations with these word: Ease, Calm, Surrender, Trust… whatever comes to your mind when you say Relaxation…

Not the kind you collapse into at the end of exhaustion. Not the numbing out. The kind that requires courage — the deliberate laying down of armor, the conscious release of the bracing, the willingness to let your body be soft in a world that that used to “reward” you for being tanse.

That is the gate…

I am a clinical hypnotherapist. I am also an initiate of the Egyptian Mystery Schools. I have sat in ceremony with plant medicine. I have felt kundalini move through my body like lightning through a wet field. I have spent years learning — in temples, in clinics, in my own body with self hypnosis sessions — what does it mean do fully embrace God Consciousness on the Earth, how can the Human kind evolve to their Greatest Degree, and what “miracles” can happen when a human being truly, completely embraces the Deep Relaxation?

These are not separate questions and lineages in my work. They are ONE.

Because what the Mystery Schools taught in initiatory chambers, what tantric adepts encoded in breathwork and sacred union, what the hypnotherapist discovers session after session — it is the same truth arriving from different directions:

The body that cannot relax cannot receive.

It cannot receive pleasure. Cannot receive wealth. Cannot receive the transmission of something larger than the small self’s current story.

The nervous system does not distinguish between types of threat.

The freeze that grips your throat when you try to name your price — that is the same freeze that closes the body during intimacy. The bracing that keeps your shoulders at your ears during a difficult conversation is the same bracing that prevents full surrender in prayer, in ceremony, in sacred union.

We have one nervous system. It governs everything.

And in that system, relaxation is the most active choice a sovereign being can make. It is the body saying: I am safe enough to open. I am ready to receive what is mine.

This is what the priestesses of Isis understood. Relaxation was not rest before the work. Relaxation was the work. The body opened was the body capable of alchemy: transmuting life force into creation, into abundance, into illumination.

The contracted body can survive. Only the open body can truly live.

This is what I witness in the couples I work with.

They arrive carrying the accumulated weight of performance — in their careers, in their relating, in the bedroom where they have been going through motions so long they have forgotten what it felt like to actually arrive somewhere together.

What I facilitate is not a technique for better sex or a strategy for more money, though both always follow.

What I facilitate is the remembering of how to let go.

In a deep hypnotic state, the body stops performing. The guard comes down. The Subconscious starts talking when the Critical Mind Relaxes. The masculine in each of them — the structure, the direction, the holding of space — can finally soften without disappearing. The feminine — the receptive, the intuitive, the wildly creative — can finally open and shine in her grace , shine in her glory .

And in that shared softness, something begins to move between them that was always there. Life force. Eros. The generative current that builds businesses as naturally as it builds intimacy — because it is the same current.

We have simply been taught to keep it in separate rooms.

There is a specific kind of relaxation that lives in the body when the masculine and feminine within you finally stop fighting for dominance.

Not the masculine principle suppressed so the feminine can finally breathe. Not the feminine pushed underground so the masculine can execute.

Both. Present. Simultaneously.

The masculine in you that knows how to hold, to focus, to build — relaxed into its own strength. No longer gripping. No longer proving. Steady the way ancient things are steady.

The feminine in you that knows how to receive, to sense, to move with what is true rather than what is planned — relaxed into her own aliveness. No longer bracing for the diminishment. No longer making herself small to fit the container.

When these two come into rest within a single body, something remarkable happens.

The body becomes coherent. The signal becomes clear. What you want begins to move toward you — not because you chased it harder, but because you finally stopped blocking the channel it was always trying to travel.

This is what the Mystery Schools called the inner marriage. This is what the hypnotherapist calls nervous system integration. This is what the tantric traditions encoded in the union of Shiva and Shakti.

Different maps. The same sacred territory.

I want to give you something you can feel right now.

Put one hand on your chest and one hand on your lower belly.

Don’t change your breathing. Just witness it.

Notice which hand moves more. Notice which part of your body is participating in this breath and which part is held, waiting, slightly braced against something unnamed.

Now, without forcing anything, let your exhale be a little longer than usual. Not dramatic. Just long enough that the belly softens under your lower hand.

Do this three times.

This is not a breathing exercise. This is a conversation with your body. You are asking it: what are you holding and do you still need to hold it?

Notice what surfaces when you ask. A thought about money. A memory of a touch that was or wasn’t welcome. A prayer you stopped letting yourself pray. An ambition you tucked away because wanting it felt dangerous.

Whatever rises — let it be witnessed. You are reading or hearing this article as an initiation. That means you are already in it. The gate is already open…

What becomes possible in the open body is not metaphor.

Couples who come to my practice and experience genuine nervous system release together — not as a performance of intimacy but as a shared arrival — report changes that move across every domain of their lives. I kept wondering about this question — how to integrate the Lover archetype within so deeply that even in mundane activities She can express and be fully present in her vibrant and limitless pleasure portals.

Thanks to my countless introspections and self hypnosis sessions I am now able to observe my thought forms in nanoseconds, making a conscious choice about which thought form I want to create with. And so the Lover within me reminds me always to remember my body first.

My body, the living instrument of knowingness — no more apologizing for its shapes, its hunger, its heat. The Lover knows this first. Before anything else. Before technique, before philosophy, before the geometry she weaves with the partner in their lovemaking — she knows her own aliveness.

My generation learned that pleasure was something to manage, control, or something that happened to us rather than something we claimed. The body became a thing to monitor, not a teacher to listen to. Especially for a woman.

But the Lover remembers differently.

She now remembers the first time she felt her own energy move inside her body without asking permission. The moment she realized that pleasure was not a reward for good behavior — it was surrender, it was allowance, yet also it was information field. It was the subconscious speaking to Her. The language of aliveness itself. When You are feeling the layers beneath the layers — the stories you didn’t know you were carrying, the beliefs you inherited about what a woman's body is for, the permission you never gave yourself to simply be alive in it.

The Lover knows this. And so she begins here.

She enters a room differently.

There is a quality of presence, a coherence between her inner world and her outer body. She is not performing softness. She is not managing her edges. She is simply here, fully arrived in her own skin, and that arrival has a frequency. She transmutes and transforms all that is calling for it when she remembers that her desire is not dangerous. That her pleasure is not a distraction from her purpose — when she remembers pleasure is her purpose.

I have sat across from lovers and felt their whole life story move through my hands before a single word was spoken. I have felt where a man carries his father's silence. I have felt where a woman buried her voice. I have felt bodies open like doors that had been sealed for decades, simply because someone finally stayed long enough to listen to them, to love them, to see them whole and complete. I was not looking at them using only the eyes of my sexual organs , my aroused lips or my womb portal . I was looking at them with every cell of mine…

This is what happens when you are fully present in your body with another body. The subconscious speaks through sensation. It has always been speaking. Most of us simply were not taught to listen.

The Lover Listens.

She listens with her hands. With her breath. With the quality of her attention. With every kiss on her skin. The Lover does not rush toward pleasure as an endpoint — she moves through it as a landscape. Every sensation is information. Every response in her partner's body is a message from the layers beneath. She reads the geometry of tension and release, of holding and letting go, of the places where life has been dammed and the places where it wants to finally flow.

And while she is reading another — she is simultaneously reading herself.

This is the secret that no one told me about becoming a true lover. The deeper you go into another person's body, the deeper you go into your own subconscious. The places that remain unmoved in you become visible. The places that respond become teachers. The moment you truly feel another, you are also — always — feeling yourself.

This is the geometry she weaves. Not lines and angles. But a living web of attention, sensation, presence, and truth. Two subconscious minds meeting through the body. Two rivers of stored memory, belief, longing, and life force — finding each other in each other- entangling , feeling, reading, releasing in deep surrender …

This is Pleasure as INITIATION.

Pleasure as the first door. The first layer of the subconscious that will ask you — are you willing to be fully alive? Are you willing to feel what your body actually knows? Are you willing to let the Lover in you — the one who sees, who weaves, who reads the stories written in another's flesh — are you willing to let her be?

Tantra teaches that pleasure is not peripheral to spiritual life — it is one of its primary languages. Where many traditions ask the practitioner to transcend the body, Tantra asks them to descend into it more completely, treating sensation as a direct pathway to the subconscious and, ultimately, to the unified field of consciousness itself.

Pleasure, as Shakti , ( Kundalini, Prana, Chi, Ka, and so many other names )— the animating life-force — moving through our body and recognizing itself. The Tantric practitioner learns to slow down inside sensation, using pleasure as a kind of meditation object — something to be witnessed with full presence until it reveals what lies beneath it: old contractions, inherited stories, patterns and associations. In this way, genuine pleasure becomes initiatory. It asks the body to release what the mind still insists on holding.

And so when the Female Lover follows the current downward, and when the male lover guides the energy up Into the belly, they are able to anchor in their deeper truth. And every "I am not enough" and every "I am too much" held consciously or unconsciously can dissolve in their deeper awareness.

When Her Descent meets His Ascent , the Belly, central point as an Axis has all the potentials to Unfold greater layers of both Lovers’ Subconscious Mind.

This is the union Tantra has always been pointing toward. Not the union of bodies. The union of two people who have each made the journey home — to the place in themselves that was never lost, only remembered .

It is in that embodied remembrance where Lovers can arrive and stay.
