In this section, I shall list a few notable changes I’ve observed from the tech world in the last two weeks.

Moonshot AI Launches Kimi K3 — China’s Strongest Open-Weight Challenge Yet

On July 16, Chinese startup Moonshot AI unveiled Kimi K3, a 2.8 trillion parameter open-weight model that the company says approaches frontier models from OpenAI and Anthropic while being significantly cheaper to run. The launch marks another major milestone in China’s rapidly advancing open AI ecosystem, following the momentum created by DeepSeek earlier this year.

Within days of launch, demand for Kimi K3 became so intense that Moonshot temporarily suspended new subscriptions because its GPU infrastructure couldn’t keep up. The company also announced it would split its subscriptions into separate plans, including a dedicated Kimi Code Membership for developers, highlighting just how much demand exists for AI coding tools.

The AI Coding War Has Changed: It’s No Longer About Models

For the past two years, AI companies competed on one question: “Which model is smarter?” Developers compared benchmarks, reasoning scores, and code generation quality between GPT, Claude, and Gemini. But over the past few months, and especially by July 2026, the competition has shifted to an entirely different layer.

Today, the real battle is between AI coding agents like Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, and Google Antigravity. These products don’t just answer coding questions; they operate as software engineering environments. They can understand an entire repository, plan multi-step tasks, edit multiple files, run tests, execute terminal commands, fix failing builds, and even resume long-running work after interruptions. In other words, the model has become just one component of a much larger developer workflow.

This shift is reflected in how each company is investing. Anthropic is publishing engineering deep dives like “The Making of Claude Code” and sharing how they use Claude Code internally for large-scale code migrations, signaling that coding agents are now a strategic product rather than an experiment.

TanStack ecosystem keeps expanding beyond “Query”

TanStack’s website and ecosystem now prominently position themselves as an entire application stack instead of individual libraries.

Current pillars include:

• TanStack Start, the framework

• Router

• Query

• DB

• AI

• Form

• Virtual

• Devtools

• CLI

• Config

The best of the TanStack ecosystem is its type-first approach, and the DX that a full-stack developer can build their application with. The only downside I’ve observed so far is their documentation.

Next.js continues doubling down on AI-first developer tooling

Although announced in late June, the improvements continued rolling into July canaries.

Highlights include:

• AGENTS.md support

• First-party AI Skills

• Agent Browser

• React state inspection for AI agents

• Better AI-aware diagnostics

OSS Pick 🎯

Today’s OSS pick is: Browser MCP

If you’ve ever used Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, or VS Code Agent Mode and thought: Why can’t the AI just use my actual browser instead of spinning up another Playwright instance? That’s exactly the problem Browser MCP solves.

Unlike traditional browser automation tools that launch a fresh headless browser, Browser MCP lets an AI agent control your existing Chrome session. That means it’s already logged into GitHub, Gmail, Vercel, AWS, Jira, or any other service you use. It works with your cookies, extensions, and authenticated sessions, making automation feel much more natural. Because everything runs locally, it also avoids sending your browsing activity to remote infrastructure.

Git/GitHub Gem - Cherry Pick 🔮

Imagine this situation. You fixed a critical bug on your feature branch, but your main branch also needs that exact fix immediately. Do you merge the entire feature branch? Probably not, because it may contain unfinished work.

This is where git cherry-pick comes to the rescue.

git cherry-pick lets you copy a specific commit from one branch and apply it to another, without bringing along all the other commits from that branch. Think of it as picking a single cherry from a tree instead of carrying the whole basket.

A practical example

Suppose your branches look like this:

• main → Production code

• feature/auth → New authentication feature

While working on feature/auth, you discover and fix a typo that also exists in production. Instead of merging the incomplete authentication feature into main, you can simply cherry-pick that one bug-fix commit.

Step 1: Find the commit hash

git log --oneline

Example:

a1b2c3d Fix login typo
d4e5f6g Add OAuth flow

Step 2: Switch to the target branch

git checkout main

Step 3: Cherry-pick the commit

git cherry-pick a1b2c3d

Git creates a new commit on main containing the same changes. You can learn more in this in-depth video.

Productivity Hack 🛠️

One of the biggest productivity killers isn’t writing code; it’s trying to remember commands you’ve already used. Instead of scrolling through your terminal history or searching Google again, use reverse search.

Simply press:

CTRL + R

Start typing any part of a command you remember.

For example, type:

docker

and your terminal will instantly find the most recent command containing docker.

Press Ctrl + R repeatedly to cycle through older matches.

Once you find the command you want:

• Enter to execute it immediately.

• Right Arrow to edit it before running.

• Ctrl + G to cancel the search.

OpenAI Launches Apps SDK — Build Inside ChatGPT

At DevDay 2025, OpenAI introduced a new Apps SDK that allows developers to embed interactive apps directly inside ChatGPT. You’ll be able to connect your service, take user input, and return rich UI inside a conversation.

This is a huge shift. ChatGPT is now becoming a platform itself and going beyond a mere chatbot. If you’re building APIs or SaaS tools, this opens a new frontier for integration and UX. You can learn more about it from here.

Anthropic Releases Claude Sonnet 4.5 — Smarter Agentic Capabilities

Anthropic rolled out Claude Sonnet 4.5, which brings better context awareness, more durable autonomous behaviour, and improved integration with tools. The model can operate for longer “sessions,” track tool use, and handle complex, multi-step tasks more reliably. Worth benchmarking if you build agentic or tool-using applications.

React 19.2 is Now Live

This marks the third release in the React 19 cycle (after 19.0 and 19.1) and brings a fresh set of features and improvements.

The highlights include:

• A new <Activity /> component for breaking your app into “activities” with controlled visibility modes (like visible / hidden)

• useEffectEvent, cacheSignal, and Performance Tracks additions

• In React DOM: Partial Pre-rendering, better SSR streaming (via Web Streams for Node), and more refined handling for Suspense boundaries

• A few notable internal changes

The Storming Layoffs

Things are getting harder for techies in recent times. A storm of layoffs is around from bigger MNCs to small companies.

• Accenture Lays Off 11,000+ Amid Restructuring.

• Google Cuts 100+ Design & UX Roles to Prioritise AI

• TCS announced plans to lay off approximately 2% of its global workforce, and the execution is already underway.

These are just to name a few; there are many more happening around the globe. If you look closely into various reports and articles to figure out the reasons, three major things come up: AI, Lack of Upskilling, and Internal Strategies.

Of course, we can not do much about the last one. However, the first two may be in our hands to an extent. What do you think? What kind of upskilling would help? How to embrace AI in much better ways? If you are someone having any suggestions, please post a comment below for all of us.

Here are a couple of major updates from my side:

The Open Source Workshop by ReactPlay and Harness

I had a wonderful time conducting a hands-on workshop on open source and Hacktoberfest 2025, along with Pritesh Kiri. It was organised by ReactPlay
x LitmusChaos at the Harness office.

My biggest takeaway was the interactiveness we had in the session. It was mind-blowing to answer all the curious minds. Kudos to all the attendees for being open in asking questions, clarifying doubts, and showing ample interest in the subject.

When I got the feedback that the ~4-hour-long workshop wasn’t a boring one for a moment, it felt like an achievement. I mean it. 😀

I would like to thank all the volunteers, helping hands for making this event possible despite some technical glitches at the beginning.

I’m now looking forward to our upcoming online event and the panel discussion at React Kolkata on 11th October 🙌. I shall share more about it in the upcoming issue.

In this section, I shall list one open-source software that I found worth mentioning. In this issue, let’s explore Strapi.

If you’ve ever wanted a CMS that feels like it was built for developers, meet Strapi. It is an open-source headless CMS that gives you full control over your content, API, and data models. Unlike traditional CMS platforms that lock you into rigid structures, Strapi lets you define your content types visually and instantly exposes REST or GraphQL APIs for them. It’s built on Node.js and integrates seamlessly with modern frontends like React, Vue, and Next.js.

You can deploy it on your own server, a VPS, or even a Docker container and connect it to any database you like (SQLite, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB). Need authentication, file uploads, or role-based access? It’s all built-in.

Git/GitHub Gem 🔮

Today’s Git/GitHub gem is the technique that will make you a detective:

Ever wondered who changed this line or when this bug was introduced? Use Git’s built-in detective tool:

git blame <file>

What it does:

• Shows who last modified each line in a file, along with the commit hash and timestamp.

• Helps you understand why a change was made by quickly jumping to the original commit.

Why it’s awesome:

• Perfect for debugging regressions and tracing code ownership.

• Speeds up context gathering before refactoring or deleting code.

• Let you find the related commit instantly with: git show <commit-hash>

Example:

git blame src/utils/formatter.js

Output

e3f9a12 (Tapas Adhikary 2025-09-14 12:43:02 +0530) export function formatDate(date) {

Pro Tip:

If you’re using GitHub, click on any line number in a file and press the blame option. It visually shows the same info right in the browser.

Productivity Hack 🛠️

Your RAM isn’t the only thing that gets overloaded; your brain does too!

Try the Two-Tab Rule: keep just two browser tabs open. One for your main task, one for reference, and bookmark the rest for later. It’s the easiest way to garbage-collect distractions, boost focus, and keep your mental CPU running cool and fast.

iOS 26 and macOS Taohoe 26 release with Liquid Glass Design

Apple rolled out macOS Tahoe 26 with the new “Liquid Glass” design. The upgrade includes UI redesigns (transparency, visual “depth”), enhancements to Spotlight Search, improvements in live activities, and a revamped Shortcuts app. It also marks the final major version to support Intel-based Macs; future macOS versions will require Apple Silicon.

In parallel, iOS 26 is also launched, featuring security and UI upgrades for Apple mobile devices, such as the iPhone and iPad. If you're interested in the new look and magic of iOS 26, learn more here.

Visual Studio 2026 Insiders Preview

Microsoft launched the preview/insiders version of Visual Studio 2026, introducing deep integration with GitHub Copilot, improved performance, a refreshed Fluent-UI look, and a new Insiders channel that replaces the older Preview channel. Check out this announcement for more details.

Java 25 LTS Released

Oracle has officially released Java 25 as a Long-Term Support (LTS) version on September 16, 2025. This version includes improvements like compact source files, simpler module imports, and several other enhancements designed for both performance and developer ergonomics. Atlassian Acquires DX

Atlassian has acquired DX, a Utah-based company that specialises in analytics for developer/team productivity. It is the company’s investment towards AI. Read more about it here.

Cloudflare Dashboard & API Outage(The useEffect story!)

Cloudflare made a dashboard / API update that introduced a bug. The issue resulted in increased calls to the organisation’s endpoint, leading to issues in availability. They rolled out fixes, rate limiting, and then reverted problematic changes.

A detailed blog was published with root cause analysis and fixes provided by the Cloudflare team. It’s worth reading and taking as a good reminder of how small changes ripple out to UX.

CreoConnect 2025

CreoConnect is a yearly ritual at CreoWis Technologies to meet all employees in person. We just finished the 2025 edition of CreoConnect this month, between 4th and 7th September.

Meeting peers in person, spending as much as 60 hours discussing, chatting, playing, thinking, praising, and pranking with each other, was no less than a "homecoming". We work remotely for 300+ days in a year, but these 3 days of getting together fulfil the missing part, and make us ready for the next challenges to come.

CreoConnect 2025 is done, now we are all gearing up for CreoConnect 2026, eager to make and discuss more success stories together. By the way, we are hiring. Please check out the open positions on our career page.

OSS Pick 🎯

In this section, I shall list one open-source software that I found worth mentioning. In this issue, let’s explore NocoBase.

NocoBase is an open-source, self-hosted low-code platform designed for developers. It allows you to rapidly build and customise internal tools, dashboards, and CRUD applications without starting from scratch. With its plugin-based architecture, you can extend functionalities to meet your specific business needs.

NocoBase empowers developers to quickly build powerful applications while maintaining full control over the codebase. Its flexibility and extensibility make it a valuable tool for creating internal tools, admin panels, and more.

Git/GitHub Gem 🔮

Today’s Git/GitHub gem is the command that saved me hours in the past:

git reflog

git reflog lets you see all the recent movements of your HEAD, including commits that aren’t part of any branch anymore. Even if you accidentally reset, delete, or lose a commit, git reflog can help you recover it.

Suppose you did:

git reset --hard HEAD~2

and realise you lost some important commits!

Them do:

git reflog

You will see output like this:

a1b2c3d (HEAD -> main) HEAD@{0}: reset: moving to HEAD~2
e4f5g6h HEAD@{1}: commit: Add feature X
i7j8k9l HEAD@{2}: commit: Fix bug in Y

Now, you can recover the last commit using:

git checkout e4f5g6h

Isn’t it a gem?

Productivity Hack 🛠️

The "2-minute rule" - If something takes less than 2 minutes (reply to an email, fix a typo, push a doc), do it immediately. It prevents small tasks from piling up and reduces the chances of procrastination.
