Most of us have been taught to resist them, fix them, transcend them, or hide them. Yet what if these emotions are not enemies arriving to destroy us, but messengers appearing at the threshold of the heart?

Sit quietly for a moment.
Allow the body to soften.
Allow the breath to arrive naturally, without force.

And now, instead of pushing away whatever you are feeling, simply notice it.

Not the story about it.
Not the explanation.
Just the living sensation itself.

Perhaps there is tightness in the chest.
A pressure in the throat.
A trembling beneath the ribs.
A heaviness behind the eyes.

Can you let it be there for one moment without turning away?

Not because suffering is noble.
Not because pain is desirable.
But because healing rarely begins through rejection.

Beneath many difficult emotions lies something far more tender:
the longing to be held,
the longing to feel safe,
the longing to return home to oneself.

And often the deepest wound is not the emotion itself, but the belief that we must face it alone.

So breathe gently.

Imagine that awareness itself is kind.
That presence itself is compassionate.
That the breath is not trying to remove the feeling, but to accompany it.

You do not have to become the emotion.
You do not have to drown inside it.
You are simply sitting beside it, as one might sit beside a frightened child in the dark.

Quietly.
Tenderly.
Without abandoning yourself.

And perhaps, slowly, something begins to shift.

Not because the emotion vanished,
but because love entered the room.

There are places within us that have waited many years for this moment —
not the moment we finally escaped our feelings,
but the moment we stopped running from them.

Difficult emotions are often frozen movements of the soul waiting for warmth, attention, breath, and presence.

So today, let this be enough:

To breathe.
To feel.
To remain.
To not leave yourself.

And in that sacred staying, something ancient begins to remember:

Even here,
especially here,
you are still held within life itself.

Nigel Lott teaandzen.org

DONATE

Meditation Sans Frontieres 501 (C) 3 Registered Charity Tax EIN 81-3411835

May the work offered here serve peace, serve healing, serve remembrance, and serve the quiet dignity of being alive. is to enter the space where the old self can no longer fully remain, yet the new self has not completely emerged. In this sense, what undoes us and what heals us are not separate movements, but expressions of the same hidden love moving through human life.

Nigel Lott teaandzen.org

In the quiet between heartbeats a whisper calls you home, you are not broken you are becoming.
