The truth is, this 4 border roadtrip with 4 dogs was full of grace. We seemed to always be in the right place at the right time. Our trusty new (used) car was the perfect dragon to ride down the coastline.

But in reality, there were some moments that were purely horrific.

I’ve been keeping this one rose on our altar ever since we gave Sophie back to the earth.

When she passed, she gave us a few clear messages. The first, and biggest one was to leave the lake. She showed us how she was helping to make a way for our relocation, and through the medicine of the rose, she instructed me in how to tend to the last remaining rose from her funeral bouquet.

It sat on our altar with the photos of both of our inner children and Guatemalan jade for 10 months. Every day, following our japa meditation, we repeated the same few prayers that she had given to us. Month after month, we could feel ourselves closer to our transition.

I knew this rose was meant to be offered to the ocean in Costa Rica ever since she left the earth. It marks the completion of her guiding us here, protecting her daughters along the way, and bestowing her heavenly mother blessings on them to rise as daughters of Sophia Lakshmi.

I think about Sophie every single day. She is a master teacher of the mysteries of love, and this multiverse we live in. She is my great ally from the other side, and I’m infinitely thankful for the ways she has worked from above to guide us in the direction of our greatest dreams.

One of the biggest indicators of water contamination is on the skin.

For the past 6 years of Atitlán, I struggled with acne from the high levels of bacteria in the water. And not just hormonal or average acne, acne specific to the strains of staphylococcus, streptococcus, and e. coli.

Even with a 7 part filtration system + reverse osmosis, our systems were still being hit.

I documented my skin chronicles, knowing that the moment we moved off the lake, it would improve. And literally the first morning of our travels, it did. We hadn’t even made it to the high mountain spring water and our skin was already looking so much better.

For me, the symptoms were mostly on my face, neck, and arms. For Eddie, it was on his thighs and legs, as ulcers.

Dirty water is an epidemic on this planet, and we saw firsthand how dirty water keeps communities in poverty. If you’re sick, it’s much harder to rise out of poverty.

Prior to our water awakening, we were not hip to this reality.

We arrived to the lake naive, drinking the rainwater from the Golden Temple, followed by river water that was brought up for us once the rain reservoirs ran dry. From river water, we moved to a house that pumped lake water for bathing/dishes, and bottled water for drinking.

The sad reality is that even bottled water has bacteria in it, let alone the microplastics from being transported in hot weather on trucks and sitting in tiendas for weeks.

From bottled water, we moved to a house called Casa Sita that had spring water access. We later found out that locals dig sewage lines into the springs, contaminating the groundwater. And when the springs ran dry, they pumped lake water for drinking without telling us.

This is where things got really bad. Eddie was already struggling with symptoms from the dirty water, and not knowing it was from the water, decided to water fast on what we now know to be lake water. I know, I know. I tried to convince him to get Kangen water from the hotel down the road, but he went ahead with his plan.

This nightmarish reality set in motion a massive health initiation for us both.

With ulcers all over his legs and face, fungal patches popping up, and skin-eating bacteria on my face, we were hit. When we finally found out what they had been doing, pumping lake water and calling it spring water, we left that land of 3 years in 24 hours.

It’s a cozy morning here.

Eddie is tuning the kora… the girlies are sleeping.

They’re so peaceful here. I can feel their nervous systems adjusting to the peace of the mountain, just like me.

I’m finally processing the reality that where we live is safe. I think we’ve lived for so long in a dangerous and contaminated environment, that I built an armor of protection around myself— for my health, for my survival.

Here on the Chirripo river, all the armor is falling away.

My defenses are melting.

I am softening. My dogs are softening.

We are landing. We are all settling in our nervous systems.

The mountains are happening to us.

Just sitting here on this couch, overlooking the rolling hills, is medicine for my mental.

The deep roots of the trees anchor me. Being off volcanic land is a relief.

It’s so peaceful here.

There are no sounds of bombas, only birds.

There is no pollution, only pure air.

There is no trash, only tropical fruits lining the roads.

It is truly a dream come true— the biggest manifestation of our lives thus far.

We did it all. The lake, the music, the album, the retreats, the service, the leadership.

And we prayed this one in so strong. Every day for a year, visualizing this reality, seeing myself in this house. Knowing without a shadow of a doubt that God was going to bring us here.

And that’s on walking by faith, and not by sight.

When my sight was filled with trash, pollution, and despair, my faith was filled with true Knowing. “Whoever brought me here will have to take me home,” as Rumi so eloquently writes. “He who began the good work in you will carry it on to completion.” (Phil. 1:6)

God will always finish what He starts. There is always a way.

I did everything I came here to do.

I became the woman I would’ve wanted to be.

I met the musician that inspired me to move out here, and I released an album on his record label.

I became the resident healer of a world class retreat center. I was the youngest one there.

I grew into myself in ways that my younger self would have dreamed of.

I sang on stages, in festivals, for crowds.

I taught hundreds of women to sing.

I supported the creation of a woman-led service and yogic life center devoted to supporting the indigenous people of the lake.

And I discovered what matters most: clean water

My time on the lake is done.

I did all that I could have dreamed of.

And now it’s time to be

who I’m becoming.

4 borders, 4 dogs, and a 4 runner

That’s what it’s gonna take to make the trip.

For some people, leaving is the easy part. They pack up their suitcase, book a flight, and they’re off. For us, leaving was the part that took us an entire year to wrap up.

With 4 dogs that we would never leave behind, 6 years of life & work to pack up, a vehicle to purchase, registrations to complete, international dog paperwork to acquire, resignations to be sent in, and a volcanic lake crater to untether from… this was our hard part.

But, it was as if as soon as we made the decision to fully leave the lake, God began providing all the opportunities for us to generate, save, multiply, and make it happen.

That’s the funny thing about hard decisions you know you have to make– once you make them, you are rewarded by the law of the universe.

It’s hard to know where to begin…

But I think it became really clear when Sophie passed away.

Our first dog, our beloved girl who traveled with us from Guatemala through Mexico to the USA, became a service dog and traveled back again, birthed 6 puppies (4 of which we have now), and showed us the true love of God…

Her dying brought us new life, somehow, someway.

It was then that we started to take the pollution and water contamination very seriously.

Sophie was poisoned in San Pablo La Laguna, where many farmers use hazardous chemicals on their crops.

In November of 2025, we buried her on that land, and her message became clear as day:

You need to get off this lake.

It was as if she sacrificed herself so that we could be spared.
