Bedazzle the day away
In last week’s letter we wrote about the adorably bedazzled girls at Zara Larssons concert at Way Out West festival in Gothenburg. During the past week bedazzling has been a topic in several fashion magazines. Gemstones are really becoming Gen Z’s whole vibe. And not just Gen Z for that matter, our very own co-founder Anna (a true millennial) is bedazzling everything she get’s her hands on.

Three things I’ve been thinking about this week.

Face glitters now belongs to the happy girls
In 2008 the Swedish emo band Broder Daniel played their last ever show at Way Out West. I was in the middle of the audience, surrounded by crying girls. Crying girls with glitter stars on their faces. During the 00s wearing glitter on your face was an emo thing.
A shift has happened.
At Way Out West this year the face glitter belonged to the happy girls. Specifically Zara Larssons twinkly, colorful, glitter-faced girls. They where everywhere and they looked amazing.

Gothenburg best antiques
After dancing the night away at Way Out West we spent the next day shopping antiques. We started at Antikhallarna and loved the collection at Curiosité, where the shop owner, a nice french guy, was playing The XX in the store, having been to the same shows as us the night before. After some festival talk we bought a couple of beautiful french wall plates and left him with his coffee. We headed off to Forum a giant antiques shop outside of town in an old industrial building. My friend found an amazing table, a rug and a tray. Highly recommend heading there if you’re into curated antiques.

Three things I’ve been thinking about this week.

Back to work mentality
Swapping your flipflops and beachwear for shirts and loafers might seem like you’re trapped in a corporate Severance kind of vibe.

The solution for me is two-fold:

Embrace the crispness of it all. Wearing a crisp white shirt really isn’t an option for me when I’m hanging out with my kids 🫟 . And my shiny but totally impractical mule-loafers have been on hold all summer. Now I try to revel in the feeling of being shiny, crisp and not at all practical.
Keep some summer details in your look. Personally I try to avoid pants for as long as the weather will let me and instead opt for skirts and long shorts. I also keep my sunglasses on my head, or hanging in my cleavage at all times.

Alexa Chung’s doorbell fit checks
British model, TV-personality and overall fashion It-girl Alexa Chung has started posting outfit images from her doorbell camera on her Instagram. She’s always pushed trends and been at the forefront of the fashion world. No wonder she’s just unlocked a new way of posting outfits. And no wonder people respond to them, they are the perfect contrast to overly styled, heavily filtered images.

Three things I’ve been thinking about this week.

Overheard at the local second hand store Humana in southern Stockholm:
Young woman, who’s clearly second hand shopping for the first time in her life and feels out of her depth, asking her friend:
“I don’t know if this is cool or not? How do I know?”
Friend: “It’s a vibe!”
Other friend confirming “Yes, it’s definitely a vibe!”

A few minutes later, the first woman says: “I think I understand second hand now! You’d never find this at Gina Tricot”

True, very true. Welcome to our side sweetie.
In my thrifted t-shirt and mesh dress.

Fleamarket savvy
The same day I walked past a large fleamarket in a town square. A stylish looking woman had put a large sign in front of her racks of clothes and accessories, the sign said:
”I’m moving to Paris!”
Smart move. Her stuff was flying off the racks.

Finding your style by asking questions

Three things I’m thinking about this week:

Just finished reading Lena Dunhams novel “Famesick” and highly recommend it for anyone who wants a deepdive into the voice of a generation, or a voice of a generation (ifykyk).
This campaign from Chloé is pure fashion magic. It looks like something out of a Brontë novel. Windswept hills and ruffles for days.
When vintage shopping, especially offline in unsorted second hand shops, it’s important to know what you actually like wearing.
I’ve been thinking about this and sorted my thoughts in these sections:

Things I genuinely like to wear: (this might have the shelf life of a carton of milk and change next week, but for now):
- Long sleeve oversized t-shirts, preferably with a print
- Sporty shorts
- Slip dresses
- Ribbed tank tops
- Wide pants
- Scarfs and caps
- Striped shirts
- Workwear style pants and jackets
Things I have a toxic relationship with, that I like but can’t wear:
- Turtleneck’s (so stylish but my neck itches and gets too warm, they feel claustrophobic)
- Belts (somehow I always get a little bit of a stomach ache, even if they’re loose?)
- Ballerina shoes (they’re too flat for my feet?)
- Maxi skirts (Can’t remember a single time except for my wedding when I’ve worn and felt good in a maxi skirt/dress).
  
  Things I am on the hunt for at the moment:
- Quality oversize knits for fall.
- Stylish shirts and blouses (when I’m not working with Ancora I’ll be working at a beautiful art museum this fall, shirts and blouses feel like proper gallerista-uniform).
- Really good comfortable and stylish loafers
- Something to wear to all the late summer parties and weddings I have in my calendar! 🍸

How to shop second hand like a Gotland local

Ancora Co-founder Sophie spends every summer at her family's house on Gotland, her husband's home island. Here's her local guide to the island's best secondhand stops:

Kyllaj Studio
I'm a regular here, buying everything from porcelain and glassware to smaller furniture and shoes. Also the nicest shop owner around. You'll find them at Nygårds (where you can meet the sheep and shop for leather) and in central Visby.

Wisby Vintage & Design
The stock comes straight from French markets, or at least that's the feeling. Beautiful things for table settings and bathrooms. The perfect gift shop.

Hundreds of flea markets, all over Gotland.
Gotland is crawling with flea markets, you'll spot them as you drive along the roads. The last few years I feel more have popped up in Visby too, for example I found my pale blue Adidas Gazelles in a courtyard for 100 kronor.

Showing bra straps is the most understated sexy thing you can do.
Black lace bra under ribbed white top. Easy as that.

How to style a black dress 2026 (not like it's 2014)

Three things I’ve been thinking about this week.

The Little Black Dress Problem
There’s a scene in Platonic (Apple TV, watch it, thank me later) where Rose Byrne and her friend turn up at LA’s hottest club looking like they’re auditioning for a Sex and the City reboot – LBDs, heels, flat-ironed hair, heavy eye makeup.
“We’re so overdressed, everyone’s in normal clothes, she’s wearing cargo pants!”
“NO, we look amazing in our LBDs.”
They looked like they’d got the invite ten years late.
It’s a painfully accurate portrait of a millennial reflex none of us can quite kick. made the same point last week about mascara being over.
Same vibe.
To be clear: the LBD itself is innocent. It remains one of the few genuinely timeless garments, and we will die on that hill.
The dress isn’t the problem. The styling is.
So, how does one wear an LBD today without looking like you’re heading to a 2014 work Christmas party?

🚫 Don’t: heels, heavy eye makeup, a glammy little bag that holds a shiny lip balm.

🫶 Do: flip-flops, boots or trainers, bare lashes, a sporty bag in a bright color – lime, yellow, traffic-cone orange.

The Details are wrong
I’m currently in the outer Finnish archipelago, which happens to be where Tove Jansson’s The Summer Book is set — and it’s just been turned into a film, with Glenn Close playing the grandmother. I’ve always mentally cast the women I meet out here as the grandmother in the book.
My Finnish mother-in-law and sister-in-law came out of the cinema properly annoyed. The plot took liberties, fine. The details were off, fine. But the shoes broke them. Glenn Close, clambering over the island’s rocks in a pair of small white (white!?) lace-up shoes. “Every archipelago woman her age wears boots,” one of them informed me. “Half-height, wide boots. To be specific.”
I love the book. Haven’t seen the film yet myself. But I will now be watching it purely for continuity errors in the footwear department.

The Bathrobe of Torekov
Some geographic places have their own dress code. My Ancora co-founder Anna spends her summers in Torekov, a tiny town on the Swedish west coast, where there's a hyper-local tradition the locals guard fiercely: you take your morning swim in an old, ideally quite battered, bathrobe. Not a nice one. The nicer the robe, the more visibly you're an outsider. Anna talks more about this in this week’s podcast.

The art of packing

Three things I’ve been thinking about this week.

Packing
I love packing for a vacation. I hate unpacking. But there’s an art to packing. Whether you’re on the hyped Sudoku method, using practical packing cubes, or just throwing random stuff into a large suitcase (👋), packing for summer vacay can be dreamy. It’s filled with possibilities. Outfits unworn, warm evenings not yet lived.
To be honest with you, I'm currently on a remote island in the Finnish archipelago, basically wearing a striped shirt and sporty shorts on a daily basis, so I didn't need that elaborate or fashionable packing for this trip. But we put together a special edit for anyone who's packing for a more stylish vacay soon.

Wedding Mania
Later this summer I am however packing some significantly more dressed up looks, for a wedding weekend. So I’m currently on the pre-loved hunt for a wedding-guest-dress. The dress code isn’t that strict, but to limit my search I’m applying the old rule of no white, black, or red. I’m also looking for something longer and on the fancier side.
I adore this Ganni dress but sadly it’s too white.
On the hunt for something like it, love the draped structure and ribbons on the shoulders. Hit me with suggestions in the comments if you’ve seen something simliar.
Speaking of weddings, we’ll definitely be covering the Swift x Kelce wedding in next week’s pod. We have SO many thoughts. Jeez.

Packing list for summer vacation

Everyone’s talking weddings this week, thanks to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce tying the knot at Madison Square Garden in front of close to 1,000 guests. Very private due to having all guests sign NDA’s, and handing in their phones, but very public due to… hosting at Madison Square Garden.

Anyway, let’s look back at one of the most iconic celebrity weddings ever, a masterclass in staying stylish and out of the spotlight. Carolyn Bessette and John F. Kennedy Jr. got married on September 21, 1996, on Cumberland Island, Georgia.

They kept the whole thing secret from the press until it was over. The ceremony happened in a tiny wooden chapel, the First African Baptist Church, in front of about 40 guests. Dinner was under a white canopy tent, by candlelight.

Bessette wore a pearl-colored silk crepe slip dress with a cowl neckline, made by Narciso Rodriguez, a then-unknown designer she’d met while working at Calvin Klein. That dress is still credited with killing off the era’s princess gowns and ushering in bridal minimalism.

The marriage sadly ended in tragedy, but certainly started in style.

Three things I’ve been thinking about this week.

The best things are worth waiting for
Last winter, I found a sequin Moschino dress at a thrift shop in Stockholm. Short, flower-printed, completely wrong for the season. But I loved it so I bought it anyway, hung it up, and waited. This weekend, I finally wore it to a garden party, and it felt genuinely special. There’s a version of closet advice that says get rid of anything unworn for six months. This is the opposite of that. Find the things you truly love, let them wait for the right moment, and then really revel in it.

Two items rising this summer 🔥
Last week we covered the return of capri pants.
This week, another item is quietly climbing the trend charts: the long sleeve t-shirt. Underrated, versatile, and a perfect match for capris.

Her approach to getting dressed is guided by gut feeling and wherever the day takes her.

The Capri Reckoning

Three things I’ve been thinking about this week.

Capris are back
When I first started hearing about capris coming back in style I must be honest, I ignored it, hoping it was just a brief thing. I am so happy in my wide pants. Capris feel like walking anxiety.
Then I saw a woman in town wearing them and looking incredibly chic. She was in all black and it was giving French minimalism. Still, I felt like this trend wasn’t going to be for me.
But now. I’ve seen them more. On different bodies, styled in different ways. And I might be caving. Worn right, they are undoubtedly chic. The Cut did a post on it and I love seeing all the different ways the staff writers are styling them.
I feel like if I were to try a pair I would style them this way, love the half-open shirt.

Chloë’s sale
Chloë Sevigny did another closet sale, this time through the Instagram account Open24hrs. Everything sold out almost instantly.
The trend of high level celebrity closet sales has taken off over the last couple of years, and it shows no sign of slowing down.

On screen
The costume design in The Four Seasons on Netflix (season 2 out now) is SO good. Colman Domingo and Marco Calvani, as the stylish couple Danny and Claude, are impeccably dressed in high fashion. Tina Fey’s character, a Gen X woman with dreams of running a B&B, is so on point. The caps, the sweatshirts, the shorts, it’s all there. And Annie is 100% believable as a whimsical art lady (or kulturtant as we say in Swedish).

Wear black during summer

This backwards trend is easy and flattering. Wearing black in summer feels wrong at first. But it’s actually really stylish and flattering, especially with sun-kissed skin.

You can also flip the trend and wear color during winter. A burgundy or moss green coat instantly gives you a more distinct look for the season.

The Woman Who Dressed Every Career Girl You’ve Ever Wanted to Be

There’s a version of you that exists because of Patricia Field.
The woman who believes a tutu can be office wear, that a name necklace is a personality trait, that clashing prints is a form of confidence.
Who is she? Well, she’s most known for being the costume designer for Sex and the City.

But in my mind, Patricia Field is ultimately the woman who invented the entire visual language of “woman who writes for a living, lives in a cool city, and somehow affords this closet.” Example A: Carrie Bradshaw.
Then she did it again for The Devil Wears Prada, this time trading tutus for Chanel boots and turning ambition itself into a silhouette, with Miranda Priestly as the final boss and Andy as proof you can survive her. And then, decades later, she showed up again, this time co-designing Emily’s first season in Paris, before handing the reins to Marylin Fitoussi and staying on as consultant.

What’s wild is how consistent the DNA is. Different cities, different decades, same idea: a little whimsical, a little over-dressed, accessories worn in ways you never would have thought of (a tie around your arm Carrie?).
It’s always styled, not just worn.

Thesis: We wouldn’t dress the way we do, online or off, without her.

Three things I’ve been thinking about this week.

Dressing for the office during summer is a genuine challenge. You’re warm from the commute, possibly a little sweaty, and trying to reconcile your summer wardrobe with something office-appropriate. Speaking of merch we took a deep dive into the iconic I ❤️ NY merch.

Few logos have shaped a city’s identity as decisively as I ❤️ NY. But the story behind it is less glamour, more crisis management.

In 1976, New York City was contending with looming bankruptcy, rising crime and a garbage collection strike. The New York State Department of Economic Development brought in Madison Avenue ad agency Wells Rich Greene to build a tourism campaign. They had a slogan and a jingle, but no logo. William S. Doyle, then deputy commissioner of commerce for New York State, approached graphic designer Milton Glaser to solve that problem.

Glaser sketched the original logo, with a heart replacing the word “love”, in the back of a taxi. That drawing, in red crayon on a scrap of paper, is now housed at MoMA. He later explained that the imagery came from his memories of initials carved into tree trunks, combined with a heart.

The design was initially met with skepticism. Many felt it was too cryptic. It wasn’t until Doyle test-marketed it himself by wearing a custom-made t-shirt on vacation in Barbados, where strangers repeatedly stopped him to ask where they could get one, that the logo was fully endorsed.

Glaser designed it pro bono and has seen no financial return from its success. The logo, and the merch it spawned, went on to become one of the most replicated images in the world.

Three things I’ve been thinking about this week.

Summer style
Summer style is genuinely tricky. All bets are off, you’re warm, you’re off duty, and somehow that freedom makes it harder – not easier.
It’s widely considered one of the worst seasons for fashion, partly because we just wear so little of it. Unlike autumn and spring, when layering is our best friend and there’s real room to play, summer strips things back in a way that can leave you confused.
In Scandinavia especially, summer is so short and so loaded that we never quite settle into it. It’s this manic season every year – you’re simultaneously trying to make the most of it and actually relax and live in it.
I remember living in New Zealand for six months and watching my Kiwi friends navigate summer with a completely different ease. Flip flops were basically an extension of their bodies.

The importance of having a style icon
Around this time last year, I remember feeling really good about my style. It just worked, every day – and when I scrolled back through my camera roll, the images confirmed it. This year something has felt off. I couldn’t find that ease again.
I thought about what had been different and immediately remembered: I’d read an interview with my style icon Chloë Sevigny where she mentioned that her legs were her best asset, and that she tended to go big on top and minimal below – an oversized shirt, short shorts. I took that and ran with it, and it just worked for me.
I lost the whole thing over autumn – you need trousers eventually – but I’m going back. A lot on top, a lot less below. Here we go.

The Apple TV series Murderbot, starring Alexander Skarsgård as a soap opera-obsessed security robot, is my current end-of-day wind-down. Genuinely love it. Season two has apparently been confirmed – excellent news.

The skirt-as-dress hack
Last weekend my husband and I celebrated ten years of marriage(!).
For the occasion I wore a thrifted silver skirt pulled up as a tube dress, with a white lace tablecloth pinned around it and a voluminous shirt on top.
A little eccentric, maybe – but I love that kind of styling, when you see materials and find an unexpected but somehow perfect way to combine them.

During the party, two of my closest friends, both fashion nerds, showed up in skirts worn as tube dresses. Independent of each other.

“Lime, loose, playful” – that’s how she describes her style in three words.
These days she prioritizes comfort, leans into menswear, and shops almost exclusively secondhand. A lot of it comes straight from her husband’s wardrobe.
