Welcome to the 2026 edition of the yearly Corp Alumni Newsletter! We’re excited to stay connected and keep you in the loop on what’s new with the Corp. My name is Omar, and I have the honor of serving as CEO of Corp 55. Here’s a look back at everything the Corp got up to during the 2025–2026 academic year:

Over the past year, we’ve made significant strides to strengthen our community and continue living out our mission of “Students Serving Students.” We reintroduced Corp Spring Service Day, giving Corpies the chance to give back to the Georgetown community through hands-on service. This year, in line with our commitment to sustainability, we partnered with Earth Commons at the Hoya Harvest Garden, where Corpies helped with planting, garden maintenance, and more.

We also launched a new partnership with Levain Cookies, a student favorite, becoming their first retail partner in the country. Behind the scenes, we’ve kept pushing to become a more efficient organization—leaning on data-driven decision-making and stronger budgeting to help our teams work smarter. Most importantly, our community is stronger than ever. Corpies continue to build deep friendships, support one another, and live out our motto of “Students Serving Students” every day. Whether it’s sharing a shift, grabbing coffee, or celebrating milestones together, the bonds formed at the Corp remain a core part of what makes this experience so special.

We’re looking forward to building an even stronger alumni network and can’t wait to share more updates with you throughout the year. If you know other former Corpies who might’ve missed this, feel free to forward it along—we’d love to reconnect with as many alumni as possible!

Alumni Spotlight:

Will Morris (Vittles Director ‘26, COL ‘26):

“The Corp was the defining aspect of my Georgetown experience. I put so much time, effort, and energy into Vittles, trying to make sure our little grocery store was a well-oiled machine. The biggest lesson I learned was that action is king. I found out pretty quickly as Director of Purchasing that if I didn’t do my job, the shelves would be empty. My advice to current Corpies: Take action. Meet with that random vendor. Seek out that product someone requested. As I navigate my first job post grad, I try to keep that action-oriented mindset. Even if I sometimes didn’t know what I was doing, getting experience making business decisions and learning on the fly was super valuable.

Something I’m most proud of from my time in The Corp was the community I worked to foster. Right before graduating, seeing so many of the younger members of our store applying for leadership positions and presenting initiatives that I had never considered was incredibly rewarding. Knowing that countless more Hoyas will get to experience all that The Corp has to offer brings me great joy. It’s a special community, and I’ll cherish the memories and friendships I made forever.”

Service Updates:

The Midnight MUG:

Hello alumni! Our lovely store in the library is serving the patrons of LAU from morning to night as always. The much-beloved Dippin Dots have returned to the store (finally!), and we now have an industrial-grade panini press (a much-needed upgrade since our last one broke). In terms of drinks, our relatively newer additions of Mushus (black tea, lemonade, raspberry, and mango) and ChaChas (half chai half matcha) are still amongst customers’ favorite picks. Looking ahead, we are beginning the process of analyzing our sales data to determine purchasing quantities of our products while also trying out new snacks to best cater towards our customers.

Vital Vittles:

Vittles has had a phenomenal Spring semester! We recently transitioned to a new Director and celebrated the transition with a fun “funeral” party for Will Morris, who did an outstanding job captaining The Ship for the 2025–26 year. This past year we have been exploring lots of new products, including new top sellers TruFru frozen fruits, Yala ice cream, and Drizzilicious mini rice cakes. Of course, Vittles is still fueling the student body with energy drinks, and we have been trying out Bloom - a new alternative that is marketed as being healthier. Socially, our store retreat was a highlight of the semester! It was a perfect chance to take a break from the day-to-day hustle of running the best student-run grocery store, with a lake view.

Hilltoss:

Hi Corp! Hilltoss is currently working towards expanding our product offerings to increase our appeal and novelty to the student body. This year, we rolled out our homemade cold brew espresso and Kickin’ Cream Cheese. The latter is part of a larger pilot initiative to introduce a rotating specialty cream cheese every other week. Current ideas for future flavors are blueberry cobbler, hot honey, and brown sugar. As always, we are open to suggestions! In addition, we are working on onboarding Coke as a supplier, so we can repurpose our Poppi fridge into a Diet Coke fridge. Socially, we had an amazing retreat and another successful Coffee Prom in the books!

MUG:

Hi MUG alums! I’m happy to report that 27 years later, the ICC is still happily caffeinated and the Little Cart is as strong as ever! This year has been a big one for all things MUG. For starters—and after years of patience—MUG finally has a fully operational and reliable Ice Machine! The solution may sound alarming, but it’s proven its worth. Instead of having the Ice Machine under the bar, we’ve moved it outside beside the toaster and regularly fill a new Ice Tray under the bar. Counter-intuitive, I know. But rest assured, the iced drinks are flowing at record speeds. Of course, Game Nights are as lively as can be. We introduced Golf Night last semester, and we’ve committed to celebrating November 3rd twice a year. And lastly, MUG was gifted seven incredible new hires. Wyatt, Ruby, Chloe, Caleb, Alex, Sarya, and Maya have been major players in MUG’s dynamic culture on and off shift. We truly couldn’t have done any of this without you, and we are so grateful for the work you all have done to give each of us our favorite spot on campus!

UG:

A new day is dawning on the Leavey Esplanade! We’ve had an absolutely terrific year at UG and have so many exciting things in store. Over the last few months, we’ve continued hosting packed open mic nights, started selling ice cream, and introduced a UG-exclusive protein shake with a sample event in Yates. We’ve done some redecorating, brought in new furniture, and are planning to debut a new look this fall. When it comes to the fun stuff, UGlies have continued to party the hardest and love each other the most. On retreat, we threw a fire dance party that didn’t result in a noise complaint to celebrate Sreya and Jess’s wedding and hosted a very successful field day. At wine and cheeses, we kept up old traditions (consistently icing any and everyone, sharing 4lokos with a shackle buddy, and attending coffee prom) and started some new ones (UG Pub Golf was a hit thanks to Stella’s efforts). Through it all, we’ve kept you guys in our hearts and your polaroids on our wall. Can’t wait to see your beautiful faces at HOMECOMING!!!

Snaxa:

HI SNAX! You will all be happy to know that the store is currently thriving. We got a brand new freezer, which is super exciting! Protein Scoops, a small business founded by a local high school student who makes protein ice cream, gifted it to us. We also hosted our second annual “Club Snax” event, where we created a nightclub experience in someone’s house or backyard. We had one of our own Snaxans DJing, got some big scary rugby guys to be bouncers, and even required wristbands for entry. It was super fun and a great opportunity for Snaxans to meet each other’s friends. We also brought back Snaxa Loves the Quad (with O’Neil’s chicken, of course)! Please reach out about anything Snaxa-related! I’d love to talk to and learn from alums!!

Catering:

Seventeen years in, Corp Catering continues to innovate and deliver. This past year has been a productive one for Internal Vending, as we work to meet the Georgetown community’s ever-evolving demands for fresh, high-quality options by expanding our offerings! Last fall, we added both Chia Pots and peanut butter Power Bites to our product lineup. We also recently launched a new vegan wrap and, by my count, our ninth flavor of overnight oats, Strawberry Shortcake. Our customers are in a protein craze, and some of our best-selling products include the Power Bites and Belmont sandwich. Meanwhile, on our catering side, events like BWTD, GAAP, and Bellringer are going strong, as we continue to fulfill the Georgetown campus’s various catering needs. This year, we welcomed 7(!!) incredible new hires to Catering, and are looking forward to another fantastic year ahead.

Marketing:

Since this was the first year without a Spring Hiring cycle, Corp Marketing has shifted focus from large campaigns to smaller-scale initiatives. These have included seasonal efforts like Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day, alongside early preparation for our major upcoming campaigns: Corp Storage and Fall Hiring. We have already begun building momentum for Fall Hiring through promotions during recent GAAP weekends, increasing awareness and engagement among potential future Corpies. At the same time, our four new fall hires have become fully integrated into the department and are actively exploring new media formats such as photography, animation, and videography. To further strengthen our team’s capabilities, former Director Matthew Tierney introduced 30-minute “office hours,” where members can lead skill-building sessions. Topics so far have included animation, comedic copywriting, and photography.

IT:

Hi alums! This semester, Corp IT took on the task of ensuring that any item sold in the external services is scannable and has an exact one-to-one entry in the Clover. Each external service now has a unique IT point person responsible for analyzing their data and making sure that their technology behaves. It will be a great way to connect IT with the externals, and I am super excited to see how it works out! We also announced a website called Soldat, which outputs the last time a queried item was sold at a given external service. It’s effectively a way for students to find out which storefronts their favorite goodies are in stock at. We miss you all, and are looking forward to a prosperous year!

Accounting:

Corp Accounting has been up to great things in the past year! We are still located in the office behind Vital Vittles and, yes, the walls are still painted like the American flag, and our fridge is always stocked with interesting goods :). As always, our department relies so heavily on our wonderful team—we recently celebrated the retirement of Stefan Awaida, our part-time CFO and full-time DJ, and welcomed in Isaac Friedman, our spreadsheet genius for the 2026-2027 academic year! In addition to our normal reconciliation work, we have been working on new projects like payroll analysis and creating budget sheets for other services. Accounting is continuing to learn, grow, and work together to take on the challenge of managing the Corp’s finances!

Each year, Corp Gala isn’t just a celebration—it’s an opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

Friendship Place, our charity partner for Gala, is a leader in the Washington, D.C. region in preventing and ending homelessness. Their programs provide housing, job placement, medical and psychiatric services, and long-term support to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Their work is rooted in dignity and compassion.

Bellringer 2025 was a tremendous success! Our community came together once again for this annual cycling event in October, which raises funds and awareness for the research faculty at Georgetown Lombardi Cancer Center as they discover cancer risk factors, design effective prevention strategies, and develop the cancer treatments of tomorrow. This year, we had 35 riders take part, and thanks to their dedication and the generosity of our supporters, we raised over $17,000 for the cause. We were also proud to have our own Corp Catering team provide delicious food and refreshments for the riders and volunteers. Bellringer continues to be a testament to our shared commitment to making a real difference.

Corp Gala Ticket Drop:

As a reminder, our annual Corp Gala Fundraiser will take place at Union Station on December 5th from 8 PM - 12 PM! This special evening brings together over 1200 of our alumni, current students, and friends of The Corp to celebrate our community and raise money for our charity partner, Friendship Place. If you’re interested in contributing to Friendship Place’s mission, please feel free to do so here.

Tickets to Corp Gala will be available on The Corp website starting this Sunday, November 9th at 6 PM and they tend to sell out quickly, often within the first few minutes, so we encourage everyone interested to log on right at 6 to secure their spot.

Alumni Spotlight: Ryan Callahan (CEO ‘10, SFS ‘10)

“When I think about the Corp, I think about Delaware. It had been a tradition for some time when I took over as CEO to have a corporate retreat at a beach house in Bethany Beach after classes ended in May, and to stop at the Delaware state line to take a picture with everyone on the way. We thought of this as our best chance to get to know each other, set the agenda for our time as a leadership team and really dive into what we wanted the Corp to be. Looking back at how we spent the time, I bet a lot of the topics are still debated today, and there are several I *know* we didn’t solve, despite apparently having meetings until 11pm (?!).

The questions we were asking also remind me of common challenges I’ve seen over and over in the business world in the years since, no matter what the size of the organization. I felt at the time that we were getting a real hands-on training in leadership, but I still probably underestimated how relevant the issues we were facing would be over the coming years. Things like motivating employees, being true to your mission, taking reasonable risks to grow, hiring in a way that reflects your values, finding the right balance of centralization, and giving more people a say in decisions were really important skills to get early practice navigating.

I remember taking these questions seriously, but also taking them on as friends. I think in any team people are looking for the right blend of being part of something high-performing and enjoyable. Part of what makes the Corp special is finding how to strike that balance in your years, and finding what questions are really important to solve for you and your student body. As an alum, it’s really meaningful to know that everyone still working in the Corp is taking their turn and writing a new chapter of what it means to be students serving students, Delaware optional.”

Alumni Spotlight: Jay Radecki (VP-Personell ‘80, COL ’80)

“You never know when a seemingly random event will change the course of your life.

Near the beginning of my sophomore year, I realized I needed to get a job to make ends meet. A friend suggested they were having trouble finding someone for the 6am stocker slot, three days a week at Vittles. Of course; what college student wants to be up that early? I took it, had fun with the early morning delivery guys and prided myself on being on time. I advanced to Vittles manager my junior year and Corp VP-Personnel my senior year. I organized and standardized our hiring practices and automated our payroll, in a time before personal computers even existed. The Corp was expanding exponentially during this time, opening Saxa Sundries, a typing service, a travel service, and furniture and book co-ops. Notwithstanding having to account for a couple hundred employees, it was so much fun I decided to pursue a career in business, rather than the government path I had anticipated.

Remarkably, all the career recruiters didn’t focus on my Georgetown degree, my good grades or my great DC internships, but rather my work at the Corp. They were astounded that a multimillion dollar revenue business was being run by students, without “adult” supervision. It ultimately led to a 37 year career in investment banking with firms such as Merrill Lynch, Drexel Burnham and Jefferies, including many years on the West Coast arriving at my desk at 5am, reprising what I had started many years ago at the Corp. Who would have thought that could spring from a tiny storefront in Healy basement?

While I remain proud of what I did with the Corp, I’m more proud of what it did for our charitable causes and how it has shaped the lives of so many alumni and the close bonds shared by all of us. To many more years!”

Hilltoss 10th Anniversary Reunion Recap

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate 10 incredible years of Hilltoss during Homecoming! From the glass wall signings to the alumni panels, the energy reminded us why Hilltoss has become such a beloved part of The Corp family. We’re so grateful to everyone who made the trip back to the Hilltop, and to those who helped make Hilltoss what it is today.

A big shoutout in particular to Porter White, who generously offered his home for Saturday’s cocktail hour event!

Save the Date: The Corp Gala

We’re excited to announce that the annual Corp Gala fundraiser will be returning on Friday, December 5th! This year, we will be raising money for Friendship Place: the premier provider of housing services for people experiencing homelessness in the Washington DC region. Their customized and person-focused programs produce demonstrative and lasting results. Friendship Place empowers people to rebuild their lives, find homes, get jobs and reconnect with friends, family and the community, permanently.

Alumni Spotlight: Darlene Lynch (COL ‘86):

“I joined The Corp because I needed a job and was happy to be a cashier at Vital Vittles, just a two-minute walk from my dorm in New South. Over the years, I sold late-night snacks in Healy basement, made milkshakes at the ice cream store, typed papers in a small room across from the travel service, and eventually joined the leadership team. No one gets rich at The Corp. I stayed because so long because it was fun. I remember laughing a lot —bad jokes at the register, silly dances while restocking shelves to 80’s music. We were thrilled to be running our own business, but mostly we were a bunch of kids happy to have a home away from home.

Being part of The Corp also helped me figure out my life’s work, though not in the way you might expect. It taught me responsibility and teamwork—and gave me just enough income to work on Capitol Hill for a summer and three school years. That experience set me on a path to public policy and advocacy at home and abroad, and today I’m the Legal and Policy Director at Georgia Appleseed, changing laws and policies to ensure all children can thrive in our state. The work can be hard, but I still hold onto another lesson from The Corp: find the joy in being part of a good team, make time to laugh together, and when you need to, turn up the 80’s music.”

Alumni Spotlight: Calvin Millien (COL ‘16):

“I’m a Senior Brand Manager at The Robot Company - a subsidiary of what was formerly known as The SpringHill Company. Me and my team work directly with Google Pixel on their sports partnerships with the NWSL, NBA, and McLaren. Over the past few years, I’ve been on a “hobby exploratory journey” and here’s a list of what I’ve come to love: biking, working out, reading, meditating, traveling, exploring cities via coffee shops visits, cooking, and honestly just chilling. When I’m not doing my personal hobbies or working, I’ve tried to stay involved in my community. I just wrapped a 5 year tenure on the board of a non-profit called SEEDS ( shoutout to my Snaxans & my Hoyas for supporting our fundraising efforts) and now serve as a mentor with the NBA’s Court of Leaders. It’s a JrNBA program for selected high school student-athletes that focuses on personal growth, leadership development, social impact, and basketball development.

One of the biggest things I appreciate about working at Snaxa was the ability to have 1 on 1 interactions with strangers during their visits. That ability to connect, engage, and hold a conversation with others / get their stories is something that’s a clearly transferable and crucial skill these days. It’s particularly salient when I think about working with clients like Google or their agency partners and being comfortable enough to work a room or call with people I don’t know. I’d also say the skills & discipline of getting up early to open up/set up Snaxa for the day (stocking, working with vendors, etc) is something I still do - wake up and get right to it!

The thing that’s resonated with me the most post-Snaxa is how important it is to keep an eclectic and diverse team. Those of us in NYC may be an unlikely bunch, but we’re still pretty close and because our Snaxa experience brought us together, we’ve cemented a bond that’s stood the test of time. My only regret is that those Hoyas who were interested didn’t get to experience it given the limited spots but it was/is special and I’m thankful for it.

The coolest thing about The Corp is its autonomy. The fact that it’s comprised of a set of entirely student run businesses established on the premise of “students serving students” is special. I can’t imagine a world where that commitment to service is needed more than ever. So many “unprecedented” shifts are deconstructing/reshaping society and college campuses in ways generations haven’t seen before. The power and responsibility that an organization with such a mission carries couldn’t be overstated as it’s best positioned to cultivate, champion, and serve a diverse community of Hoyas and be the difference the world needs today. My hope is current Corpies are stewarding the legacy and future in that direction.”

T-2.5 weeks until the event! Whether you’re a Hilltoss alumnus or just a fan of its legendary vibes, this reunion weekend is for you. It’s the perfect chance to reconnect with old friends, meet current Corpies, and honor the place that’s fueled countless study sessions and early morning starts.

Friday, October 3 – Hilltoss Homecoming Night (5–7 PM)
Kick off the weekend where it all began! Join us at Hilltoss for a casual meet & greet, sign your name on our newly painted glass wall, and enjoy a panel with current and former Corp leadership as they reflect on the past 10 years of Hilltoss magic.

Saturday, October 4 – Alumni Cocktail Gathering (5–8 PM)
Dress up, toast to the memories, and make new ones. This evening reception will be a relaxed space to network, reminisce, and celebrate our shared Corp experience. (Exact location in DC will be shared with all RSVPs one week before the event.)

Sunday, October 5 – Hilltoss Brunch (10 AM–12 PM)
Close out the weekend the only way Hilltoss knows how—exceptional coffee, incredible food, and the best company. Come hungry and leave with a full heart.

Jason Jennings (VP Ops ‘98, COL ‘98):

“The Corp can change your life! It is a rare opportunity for students, early in their careers, to take full responsibility for a business. You get to learn how to make business decisions that have real impact, in the context of an established organization, without any ‘adult supervision’. Plus you might meet your best friend or future spouse while on a shift!

I started my Corp career the 2nd semester of my freshman year as a cashier at the recently opened Uncommon Grounds. This was at the beginning of the “2nd wave” coffee revolution, so espresso drinks were just becoming common in America. I had never worked retail, had no idea what a latte was, let alone any idea how to steam milk. But I loved it, and I ended up becoming a manager, then Director of Marketing of Uncommon Grounds, then VP Ops. I drew on my Corp work experiences during my job interviews, then when started my first full time job. I still draw on those experiences today, over 25 years later.

Even better, at the beginning of my junior year, I was managing the first closing shift of the semester at UG. I was working with a cashier who I had never met before. We got married 10 years later. We still make coffee together every morning. I steam the milk.”

My name is Sunil, and I have the honor of serving as CEO of Corp 54. This year, we’re placing a strong emphasis on Alumni Engagement—finding meaningful ways to keep you connected and involved with the Corp community.

We recently kicked things off with MUG25 on April 26th, an event filled with reconnection and celebration. Thank you to everyone who joined us! Looking ahead, we hope to see many of you during Homecoming Weekend (October 3–5) as we mark Hilltoss’ 10-year anniversary—another great opportunity for former Corpies to reunite and reminisce. Over the past year, we’ve embraced some significant changes. We transitioned our coffee provider from Compass to Swing’s Coffee, forming a fresh partnership that better reflects our mission and values. We also recently initiated a partnership with Too Good To Go, a platform that enables customers to purchase almost-expired food at reduced prices, as part of our broader commitment to sustainability and waste reduction. Behind the scenes, we’ve also made major strides in becoming a more efficient organization by using data-driven decision-making and strengthening budgeting to empower our teams to work smarter. Most importantly, our community is stronger than ever. Corpies continue to build deep friendships, support one another, and continue our motto of “Students Serving Students”. Whether it’s sharing a shift, grabbing coffee, or celebrating milestones, the bonds formed at the Corp remain a core part of what makes this experience so special.

Service Updates:

The Midnight MUG:

The Midnight MUG is as vibrant and lively as ever! This past year, we celebrated our 21st birthday with a special Tomb’s Night. We've welcomed 13 incredible new Midnighters, each helping to shape the next generation of Midnight. Exciting menu updates include the permanent addition of the Sateava—Carolina’s brainchild—and a brand-new drink, the "Cha Cha Slide," a matcha and chai fusion crafted by our newest hire, Henry. In bittersweet news, our main speakers have officially reached the end of their journey. For now, we're bringing back retreat vibes with a large lightup speaker, but don’t worry—we will fix the OGs soon enough. And lastly, we’re starting to run out of space for New Hire photos. Ranging from Fall 2009 to Spring 2025, it is a true testament to Midnight’s ever-growing, enduring spirit. Stay tuned for what’s next!

Vital Vittles:

The Ship is continuing to sail full steam ahead! This semester has been filled with electric events, from Hard and Soft Welcome to Flagship Fridays to Plantain Dinners. This past March, the crew had our annual retreat to Elkton, VA, where we enjoyed some quality time swimming in the pond, bathing in the sun, and lounging by the fire—a necessary break from the Leavey Center grind. Meanwhile at the store, sales have been through the roof. Vittles made $8.7k in one day, our highest revenue day of the year! Customers have been craving our high-protein offerings, as we sold over 6000 CorePower shakes throughout the spring semester.

Hilltoss:

Hilltoss has had a very exciting 10th year with more fun things on the horizon! We welcomed a total of 10 new hires over the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semester to bring the total number of Tossers to 50. Our bagel and toast sandwiches continue to be our best-selling items, especially with the addition of prosciutto to our menu. Of course, we recently held our annual retreat at none other than Lake Anna—an always-anticipated tradition that brought our team together for some bonding. Most importantly, we are looking forward to our Hilltoss 10 Year Reunion, happening this fall from October 3rd-5th. This will be a great opportunity to reconnect with past Tossers, meet current Corpies, and see where the store is now. We hope to see you all there!

MUG:

This year, More Uncommon Grounds is celebrating its 25th year in service! With 30 incredible employees, MUG is thriving both through its business and store culture.

The Rocky Mountain Chai, a delicious drink dedicated to the past director, has been a top-selling product this year—and now, the next director drink has officially been announced: Miami Mint! Additionally, the MUG Purchasing team has done a great job in expanding both drink and snack options; customers can now enjoy a Yerba Mate, a Core Power protein shake, and Chobani yogurts. Lastly, just a few weekends ago, we were thrilled to welcome back so many alumni for our MUG25 celebration—a special event honoring both current and past MUGgers from the past 25 years. All good things ahead for MUG!

UG:

Uncommon Grounds has been busy brewing up new drinks, new events, and new ways to bring people together—all while keeping the same charm you remember. We’ve introduced shaken espresso and are looking into adding protein drinks to the menu. This year, we’ve also brought back classic events like Battle of the Bands while adding new ones, like an Earth Day celebration. Open mic nights on the Leavey Esplanade have become a hit, and UG 30 was a special chance to reconnect with alumni and celebrate our shared history. As we continue to grow, we’re committed to keeping UG a welcoming space for both old traditions and new ideas. No matter how much we change, it’ll always be the cozy spot you know and love.

Snaxa:

Georgetown's favorite bodega has been strong as ever. While we've long foregone the slushi machine and the breakfast nook, we've introduced new fridges, proceed snacks, and most importantly, a host of new Church events. As seen on snaxagram, we've introduced: Club Snax (a boiler room with our very own in-house DJ), GalerieSnaxa (an art auction), Pub Golf (kinda what it sounds like), and many, many more. Although our broom closet of a store hasn't gotten any bigger, our Snaxa family surely has. Last year, we celebrated Snaxa's Tombs Night, and we are currently 32 strong, with hundreds of alumni. And if you can believe it, we're even still selling snacks. If you ever want to hear about the state of affairs, email snaxa@thecorp.org. We love to catch up with old Snax.

Catering:

This spring marks the completion of Corp Catering's *16th* year in business, and we are so proud of the incredible growth and development of the service! Today, Catering serves two principal functions: Internal Vending (assembling and distributing 1000+ prepared food products per week to Corp storefronts) and Catering (fulfilling custom orders for Georgetown community events). Some of our most popular new IV products include the Belmont chicken sandwich and the Cookie Butter Overnight Oats, while our biggest campus partnerships include the Bellringer bike ride, Campus Ministry's Chaplain's Tea, and GAAP accepted students' weekends. This year, we welcomed six new hires in the classes of 2027 and 2028 (feel old yet?), and shortly we will be celebrating our NINE seniors, who have set the bar high for the future of Catering. As always, the flying muffins of Catering are laser focused on serving the needs of the community by remaining committed to our historic motto "We always deliver!"

Marketing:

Marketing has been beyond busy throughout this school year, keeping up the high quality graphics that we've established a reputation for on campus whilst expanding our content portfolio into new mediums—notably short-form video and animation. We took on four incredible new hires this past year, building out an incredibly talented, well-rounded, and vibrant department.

You can always keep a gauge on what we're up to via The Corp's Instagram page, where the bulk of our content lives. We're glad to be able to engage with the student body directly and have taken on a number of collaborative projects, continuing to hone our processes and up our output quality while taking on more jobs overall.

IT:

In recent years, Corp IT has launched a new website, refined our databases, and established a strong precedent for data-driven insights. A major milestone was Data Access, a data warehouse consolidating transaction history for real-time insights that aids marketing, inventory management, and pricing. This tool has fueled initiatives like Corp Wrapped, which details top products. We also are working on a website that allows customers to check the availability of products across all storefronts, that will be available come Fall 2025. With an optimized repricing system, automated vendor data integration, and plans for advanced analytics, Corp IT continues to help The Corp strive towards efficiency. Leveraging data and technology enables us to optimize resources, enhance profitability, and drive sustainable growth to ensure The Corp’s long-term success.

Accounting:

Corp Accounting has been up to great things in the past year! We are still located in the office behind Vital Vittles and, yes, the walls are still painted like the American flag and covered in photos of Accountants, both past and present. As always, our department relies so heavily on our wonderful team—we recently celebrated the retirement of Tosin Fagbami who served back to back terms as Controller from 2023-2024 and CFO from 2024-2025! In addition to our normal reconciliation work, we have been working on additional projects like vendor audits and product analyses for other services. Accounting is continuing to learn, grow, and work together to take on the challenge of managing the Corp’s finances!

POps:

Hey Corp! The People Operations department has been busy behind the scenes, and I’m excited to share some updates with you. First up, we’re working with our Directors of Personnel to re-imagine our training process, so our next leaders of service culture are prepared to hit the ground running. Next, we’re launching a company-wide internal newsletter with company news, employee spotlights, and project updates from Corp Upper Management. And last but definitely not least, we’re bringing in some fresh faces to our People Operations leadership team! These moves are all about building a stronger, more connected Corp, and I’m very excited for what’s ahead.

What’s next:

As we wrap up this edition of our newsletter, we’re filled with gratitude for everything that Corp alumni like you have built and continue to inspire. We’re excited to keep strengthening our community and finding new ways to stay connected. If you haven’t already, don’t forget to fill out the interest form—we’d love to hear from you. Bellringer

1975 Corp Tennis Tournament for the Lombardi Cancer Center

The Corp’s BellRinger team needs your help! We would love for you all to consider signing up to ride with our team either virtually or in person if you’re local to the DC area. We would also love the financial support of the Corp’s alumni. If you’d like to volunteer to match every donation received by a Corp rider, or donate directly through the BellRinger website, your help would be greatly appreciated. Given the Corp’s longstanding relationship with the Lombardi Cancer Center and the philanthropic work that we have done with them in the past, this is a fantastic opportunity to continue furthering the Corp’s mission of serving the community. 

BellRinger is a grassroots effort to end cancer. On October 22, 2022, BellRinger’s inaugural bike ride to end cancer will be leaving from Georgetown’s gates. Students can choose to ride 25, 50, or 100 miles, or sign up to be a volunteer at one of the rest stops along the bike routes! When students sign up, they commit to raise between five hundred and seven hundred and fifty dollars depending on the mileage they choose. All of the money raised through BellRinger’s inaugural bike ride will go directly to the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, which has been a leader in cancer research since 1970.

What a weekend we had together! More than 450 Corp alumni returned to the Hilltop to commemorate our 50 years together. It was beautiful to reconnect and gather with everyone again. On behalf of all of us, thank you for the most incredible three days of Corp stories, laughter, and Celebration we could have imagined!

Friday - Archive Display and Open Houses

On Friday, we kicked off Corp 50 Weekend with volunteering at Martha’s Table, and open houses in each of The Corp services. In the afternoon, a collection of 50 years of Corp artifacts was on display in the Booth Center at Lauinger Library. Alums were able to view a wide array of photos, articles, t-shirts, W.A.G.E. slips, and Corp Advertising prints (and more!) from over the years. Special thanks go to Bennie Smith (C’86) who helped curate the display and to the many alumni who donated to The Corp Archive file that made this possible!

Riggs Library - Alumni and Community Honors

On Friday evening, we gathered in the beautiful Riggs Library to honor our distinguished alumni and showcase our community partners. We heard remarks from Erika Cohen-Derr, Interim Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs, about The Corp’s mission to fight food insecurity through its partnership with the Hoya Hub, Georgetown’s on-campus food pantry. We were delighted to hear closing remarks from one of the founders of The Corp, Roger Cochetti (F’72), who spoke to the combination of idealism and pragmatism The Corp embodies. On Saturday evening, we gathered in the Smithsonian American Art Museum to ring in 50 years together. Everyone looked amazing!! We enjoyed a performance by Back to Yours, raised money for our philanthropic partners through an auction made possible by our sponsors, and reconnected with old friends beside some stunning art. Corp 50 Anniversary Week

Corp 50 was a big celebration on campus too! In the lead-up to Corp 50 weekend, we gave out thousands of cans of Liquid Death, Yerba Mate, Coca-Cola, and Super Coffee for students to enjoy, keeping everyone hydrated and caffeinated. We hosted an open-mic to raise more than $800 for Georgetown Mutual Aid, and held an alumni industry panel on law! Do good in DC during Corp 50!

Volunteer with The Corp with one of our community partners, Martha's Table! Martha's Table is one of DC's largest and most impactful non-profit food hubs and resource centers. Corpies have volunteered there over the past year to pack lunches and grocery bags for distribution to communities suffering from food insecurity in DC. 17 spots remain on Friday, February 18th! One group will leave from the front gates at 12:15 and return by 4:45 to pack grocery bags and another will leave at 1:30 and return by 6:00pm to staff a community market. Transportation will be paid for! This is a great opportunity to give back in the spirit of Corp 50 and volunteer alongside both Corpies and alums! Sign up first-come.

Operations Update - Midnight and Hilltoss Open

We are happy to open Midnight Mug earlier than anticipated, after adjustments were made to Georgetown's public health protocol. We are also excited to announce that we have brought back our classic *salad options* to The Hilltoss in a grab and go fashion. With our services now fully reopened, we can't wait to welcome back alumni for our 50th anniversary next weekend! 

Bud Colligan - Award Announcement

Bud Colligan (SFS ‘76) has been selected as the winner of the Students Serving Students Award! The recipient of this award has demonstrated an enduring commitment to philanthropic and service oriented work at Georgetown and in their own communities.

Bud was the Executive Vice President of The Corp in 1973, and was integral to the organization’s beginnings. He started Vital Vittles, selling convenience items out of New South before its eventual move to Healy Basement.

Bud majored in International Economics at Georgetown and went on to earn an MBA from Stanford Business School in 1983. He was part of the team that helped launch the Macintosh computer and oversaw the company’s Higher Education Marketing team. In 1992, Bud founded Macromedia, a web development software company that pioneered Flash player among other notable internet technologies. It was purchased by Adobe in 1997.

Bud has served on the Board of Directors of multiple tech and media companies including Metacafe, CNet, Yodlee, Brightmail, and Lynda.com. Bud also Co-Founded and served as Chairman of Pacific Community Ventures, a non-profit which provides capital and advising for businesses in low income communities. Bud was appointed as Senior Advisor for International Affairs and Trade to Governor Gavin Newsom and served from March 2019 to February 2020.

Bud will be honored at our Alumni Awards Ceremony at Riggs Library, on Friday, February 18th. Congratulations, Bud!

We’re elated to announce that Ann Beth Stebbins has been selected as the winner of the President’s Award, given to a Corp alumnus who has provided exceptional professional, financial, or experiential support to the officers and leadership of The Corp at some point in the last fifty years.

Ann Beth is a partner for the Mergers and Acquisitions group of the law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in New York. She serves on the firm's diversity committee, hiring committee, and women's initiative. Ann Beth worked in Vital Vittles and graduated in 1986 from Georgetown College with a degree in government and economics. She earned an MBA from the NYU Stern School of Business in 1991 and a J.D. at Georgetown Law in 1994. She has chaired the Georgetown Law Alumni Board for six years and served on the Georgetown University Board of Regents.

Ann Beth will be honored at our Alumni Awards Ceremony at Riggs Library, on Friday, February 18th. Congratulations, Bennie!

Dear Corp Alumni,

Georgetown University announced a virtual start to our spring semester, with in-person classes returning on January 31st.  Amidst this delayed reopening, The Corp was able to open Uncommon Grounds, Vital Vittles, and Hoya Snaxa as students slowly returned to campus. Catering is also operating smoothly, with the output of our Internal Vending products! The Hilltoss Cafe and MUG are scheduled to reopen on January 31st, and Midnight Mug will reopen later in February. Although it's a slower return than we anticipated, we are so excited to be back!

We are also excited to announce the new C-Suite for Board 51! Congratulations to the incoming President & CEO, Brendan Gibbons (Vittles '23), Vice President & COO, Nina Yee (Hilltoss '23) and Treasurer & CFO, Eddie Woo (Accounting '24). We’re thrilled to have such talented leaders carrying us into the new year!

Heart of the Corp Award Winner - Bennie Smith

Bennie Smith (C '86) has been selected as the winner of the Heart of The Corp Award, given to a Corp alumnus who fully embodies the values of The Corp and Georgetown!

As a member of the Georgetown Class of 1986 who graduated as a history major from the College, he was hired as a stocker/cashier in Saxa Sundries his freshman year and went on to become a Corp officer in the role of VP, Operations.

Bennie's Favorite Corp Memory: Friday B. Green deliveries in Healy Basement. IYKYK. Runner up, the Transition Dinner at 1789.

As an alumnus, he’s supported Georgetown in many ways including as an interviewer in the Alumni Admissions Program, supporter and mentor in the Georgetown Scholars Program, Class of “86 Ambassador, and early advocate of the Georgetown LGBTQ Resource Center. He is Chair of the Students of Georgetown, Inc.’s Alumni Advisory Committee and a member of the Georgetown Board of Governors.

He is the co-author of “Georgetown University," a new book that tells the story of the oldest Catholic and Jesuit university in America. https://georgetownhistorybook.com

His post-graduate career has focused on risk management in various fields including insurance and venture capital-backed advertising technology. He currently lives in New York City.

Favorite movie from your childhood: Ella Enchanted. I still watch it with my sister often!

Corp History - The Cone Zone

The Cone Zone, opened on September 13th, 1985, was the first and only ice-cream parlor to be operated by The Corp. Located above Wisemiller’s Deli at 1236 36th St NW, the store was named through a campus-wide “Name the Store Contest.” The winning name for the short-lived establishment was entered in by Stephen Baird (C’88), who received a free sundae every day for a month! Though well-liked by the student community, the store struggled financially. The ice-cream store was constricted by serving a customer base that was largely present during the colder months of the academic year, holding it back from garnering summer revenue, and its location failed to draw much foot-traffic. Being upstairs limited visibility from street and therefore curbed impulse motivated customers. By the end of 1986, The Corp’s leadership decided to close The Cone Zone.

Dear Corp Alumni,

Last evening the Board of Directors affirmed our decision to hold The Corp’s 50th Anniversary Celebration in-person on February 18-19th, as originally scheduled. This re-affirmation was based on consultations with current members of The Corp, alumni, Georgetown administrators, and public health experts. In this email, we provide some of the initial steps we will be taking to maximize Covid safety. We expect these protocols to continue evolving over the coming days as the public health situation for February comes into focus; we will be in touch soon with additional health and safety information. Please do not hesitate to reach out to advancement@thecorp.org with any questions you might have regarding our COVID policies.

Public Health Procedures

We remain committed to safely hosting Corp 50 events in-person on the weekend of February 18th-19th. 

In order to safeguard alumni, event staff, and students, all attendees must have received a COVID booster shot from Moderna or Pfizer at least two weeks before February 18th. This is in line with the recent announcement from Georgetown’s public health team regarding mandatory booster shots for all members of the Georgetown community. You can find resources for scheduling a COVID booster shot here.

Additionally, we are now requiring all those planning to visit present a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of the date of your arrival to DC. For instance, if you plan to arrive on Friday, February 18th, a test taken anytime from Tuesday, February 15th onwards would meet this requirement. If you have tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 90 days, you are not obligated to present a test. We will follow up closer to the event date with information on submitting tests. Should you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to advancement@thecorp.org.

These protective measures were made in consultation with Georgetown’s public health team and complement existing Washington DC and University public health protocols, such as indoor mask-wearing.

Vaccine Registration Form

Please upload proof of vaccination to this form - for host, input “Adam Shaham” and the for the location, you can select Main Campus, Healy Hall. This registration will count for all events at Corp 50 weekend, you do not need to fill it out multiple dates or for events at different locations. One submission will cover it. Each attendee in your party must fill out this form and upload their vaccination documentation.

We hope this message finds you well. The Board would like to provide a brief update about our planning for Corp 50 Celebrations in light of the developing public health situation. 

Currently, we continue to plan for an in-person event as we monitor the developing number of cases. Throughout the last few months, we’ve been coordinating with Georgetown’s administration and public health team, and are slated to have meetings with them next week to receive their final guidance on hosting Corp 50 at Georgetown the weekend of February 18th-19th.

We are incredibly excited for the chance to gather again as a community but we want to make sure we do safely. We will continue to update you in this next week as we consult with public health experts, alumni, and administrators. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

Updated Covid-19 Protocol

The Board has been tracking the nationwide rise in Covid-19 cases linked to the Omicron variant, and has been in close communication with Georgetown University to assess the evolving public health situation. We remain committed to safely hosting Corp 50 events in-person on the weekend of February 18th-19th. 

In order to safeguard alumni, event staff, and students, we ask that all attendees receive a COVID booster shot from Moderna or Pfizer at least two weeks before February 18th. This is in line with the recent announcement from Georgetown’s public health team regarding mandatory booster shots for all members of the Georgetown community. 

Additionally, we strongly recommend that all those planning to visit take a PCR test within 72 hours of your arrival to DC. You can find resources for scheduling a COVID booster shot here.

Band Announcement: Back to Yours!

We are thrilled to announce that indie-rock group Back to Yours will be playing at Corp 50! The band got its start at Georgetown in Fall 2017 when they came together for a 1-credit class called Guild of the Bands. Since their early days of playing on-campus, Back to Yours has taken off performing regularly at venues in New York City, DC and all across the US. We can’t wait to hear them live at the Smithsonian on February 19th! They’re on tour now so be sure to check them out on Spotify, Instagram, and Facebook.

Corp History: Corp Travel

The travel bureau of The Corp was first established in 1973 and operated as a low-cost travel agency. Corp Travel was able to offer competitive prices because unlike most full-service travel agencies, the student employees did not work on a commission model for ticket sales. One of the most popular services Corp Travel offered were its spring break tickets and packages. Corp Travel agents booked trips for students to locations in Mexico, Jamaica, and the Bahamas, among many others! With the advent of online travel platforms, Corp Travel closed in 2000.

Corp Gala 2021

This past Monday, The Corp held its annual holiday Gala to close out the semester. Close to a 1000 Georgetown students gathered at Andrew Mellon for an incredible evening planned by our Philanthropy Committee. After taking a hiatus for a year, we are so glad to return to this tradition started by Corpies in 1998!

Who would you like to nominate? Who do you know that loves the Corp and will make sure everyone around them knows it?

Let them know you see and appreciate how much they care for the Corp.

These are the three awards that will recognize and highlight alums' contributions to The Corp after graduation and bringing the spirit of our mission–Students Serving Students–to life beyond the Hilltop.

• The President's Award

  • Given to an alumni who has provided exceptional professional, financial, or experiential support to the officers and leadership of The Corp at some point in the last fifty years

• The Heart of The Corp Award

  • Given to an alumni who fully embodies the values of The Corp and Georgetown. Recipients should demonstrate their commitment to the five Corp pillars: Empower Students, Be an Entrepreneur, Build Bridges, Learn by Doing, and Give 110%.

• The Students Serving Students Award

  • Given to an alumni who embodies The Corp’s service and philanthropy mission. Recipients should have demonstrated an enduring commitment to philanthropic and service oriented work at Georgetown or in their own communities.

Please only submit one nomination for each award. You may nominate the same alum for multiple awards. All nominations must be in by December 22.

Awardees will be notified by early January.

Corp History: Movie Mayhem

After Saxa Sundries moved from Healy Basement to the Leavey Center in 1988, there was growing demand for the store’s movie rental service. It proved so popular that The Corp decided to open a separate storefront, Movie Mayhem. Founded in 1989, Mayhem operated out of the Leavey Center for 16 years before moving to an online rental platform, MovieMayhem.org, in 2005. The service had thousands of VHS and DVDs that students could browse and rent. Though the website was shuttered in December 2007 due to competition from large online movie vendors like iTunes and Netflix, Movie Mayhem remains an integral part of The Corp’s story!

She serves on the firm's diversity committee, hiring committee, and women's initiative. She graduated in 1986 from Georgetown College with a degree in government and economics, where she worked at Vital Vittles! She earned an MBA from the NYU Stern School of Business in 1991 and a J.D. at Georgetown Law in 1994. She has chaired the Georgetown Law Alumni Board for six years and served on the Georgetown University Board of Regents.

Corp 50 Celebration Update

The Corp Philanthropy Committee is thrilled to announce that Alumni Weekend planning is underway! We are so excited to invite Corp alumni back to the Hilltop for a weekend of celebration. Alumni Weekend will take place on campus from February 18th and 19th, 2022, ending with the Corp 50 Celebration in Downtown DC on the evening of February 19th (venue TBA soon!) Tickets for the event will go on sale in October with more information to come. Keep an eye on your inbox for more information from The Corp and mark your calendars for a weekend of celebration!

CAB Fair and Operations

Almost all of our services are open, seeing record business, & we are in the midst of our largest hiring cycle ever!

Long time, no see. But as we get ready to return back to our stores in the fall, we’re actually hoping to see you in person soon!

Fall 2021 Reopening

As Georgetown plans to resume full operations this fall, we are reopening! Here’s a message from Matt Davis, President and CEO of The Corp:

“Hey Alumni! We are so excited to be returning to "normal" operations at the start of school, after a year and a half of being closed. While this challenge to open seven external storefronts within just six weeks is daunting, it is also an exciting opportunity to re-imagine the way Corp operations function. We are using this time to re-train all 160+ of our employees, implement customer service training, strengthen relationships with our major product vendors, and hire a robust class of 50+ new employees. In addition, we strive to ground our company in our mission of actively engaging with community partners both on campus and in the greater DC community, as well as develop several philanthropic scholarships to support Georgetown's campus. While this fall will be busy, The Corp is so excited to reopen and fulfill our mission of "Students Serving Students."

New podcast: Kendall and John Antonelli

We have a new episode on our Alumni Chats podcast series featuring interviews with different Corp alumni!

For this month’s podcast, we interviewed John and Kendall Antonelli (‘04). We’re all suckers for a good (Corp) love story, and the cheese factor is (literally) through the roof.

The couple met as students at Georgetown. John, from Suffern, N.Y., was chairman of The Corp; Kendall, from north Texas, served as “The Corp’s” V.P. of grocery. John followed Kendall back to Texas after graduation. When the couple married in 2008, he had a successful career as a CPA at Deloitte; she was practicing immigration law and advocating for human-trafficking victims. After their honeymoon, together they founded Antonelli’s Cheese Shop, Austin’s first specialty cheese business!

Most memorable Corp moment - When my phone charger got caught rolling back into the conveyor belt of the toaster, and Niall Gillen had to save me by swiftly removing the melted charger before a fire started!
