1. Why This Program Exists At All

We opened by telling Sylvia something that tends to surprise people: we’ve stopped trying to work through formal educational institutions.

DAV79: “We’re challenging the school system... schools want structure, they don’t want messiness — but messiness is where you learn.”

Instead, we’ve been building local communities directly — hubs in Jogja/Yogyakarta led by Ms. Z, in Bali, in Vietnam, and now we were sitting across from our first potential contact in Malaysia. The core mechanic Lin91 described to Sylvia is simple to say and hard to do: create a safe environment for kids to try and fail. Not to build knowledge or skills — schools already do that — but to develop the things schools don’t measure: how a child thinks, solves problems, makes decisions, and handles social situations outside their comfort zone.

Sylvia didn’t let that pass as a slogan. She asked the question that shaped the rest of the meeting:

Sylvia Wong: “When we were in school 30–40 years ago, do we have that issue, and what is causing this issue today?”

DAV79’s answer was generational: his own generation grew up obsessed with structure for the sake of efficiency, and today’s kids have inherited a world so structured they’ve become “afraid of surprising structure” — never having practiced failing safely. He put it bluntly:

DAV79: “Parenting with too much structure.”

And when pushed on how serious the stakes really are, he didn’t soften it:

DAV79: “Yes, suicide... Yes, we’ve seen that.”

That is, in his words, part of why the program exists.

2. Ms. Z’s Story: Training the Parents, Not Just the Kids

Ms. Z went next, and she made it personal. She left a four-year software engineering career, flew back to Jakarta at 34 weeks pregnant, and became a full-time parent — and admitted her first mistake was bringing her old job home with her.

Ms. Z: “If I see they’re slow doing something... this is a bug, I have to immediately remove it.”

She described how her now-teenage daughter came to equate “removing my problems” with love — and resented her when she stopped doing it:

Ms. Z’s daughter, as recounted: “Why do you even bother to bring me into this world...”

A second story followed: her eldest daughter, pushed into performance-based dance activities every six months, broke down when asked to perform without preparation and accused Ms. Z of “bullying.”

Sylvia’s response landed with the whole room. DAV79 later called it out directly:

DAV79: “You actually put a right note” — about how programs need to address parents’ outcome-fixation, not just kids’ behavior.

That prompted DAV79 to share the moment that reframed the whole program for him — a parent named Mr. Bama, from a past boot camp:

Mr. Bambang - a father from Yogyakarta, in the previous bootcamp, as recounted by DAV79: “Dave, this program is now for the kids. It’s for the parents.”

Fear, DAV79 added, is “the biggest striker” holding society back — and the hardest thing to unwind after years of conditioning.

3. What We’ve Actually Built: The Track Record

Since we last spoke with Sylvia roughly two years ago, we’ve run 15 boot camps.

• Bali: ~300 kids the previous year; ~100 kids (ages 10–12) this past April

• Vietnam: Hanoi, and a location referred to as “Moc Chau,” most recently in July

• Plus sessions in Indonesia and Hybrid among Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia.

The model is deliberately kid-run, not adult-led:

DAV79: “We don’t train kids... we stand back... kids train kids.”

The Global Citizen curriculum — designed by LIN91 and our Mentors from Singapore - Mr. Ashokh, consulting with UN sustainability officers and ambassadors to Singapore — runs across four modules over a year:

1. Leadership — “others first, not us,” never about power

2. Daily Discovery — self-awareness and critical thinking

3. Sustainability — the current module for Quarter 3, and the one anchoring the Malaysia pitch

4. Entrepreneurship — framed around value, not money

To make it concrete, we gave Sylvia two examples: an 11-year-old girl in Jogja who runs the program’s entire finance function — budgeting in Google Sheets, a 15-year-old bootcamp Commander in Hanoi negotiating vendor costs himself — and a 12-year-old girl who built the internal workflow documentation the adults are “not allowed to change.” This isn’t a certificate program. It’s one of the only setups in the world actually tracking how a child’s mindset develops over time.

4. How We Actually Get In: Local Partnerships, Not New Venues

Ms. Z explained her approach in Indonesia: don’t build new infrastructure — plug into what local government already runs. She registers kids into existing children’s science and sustainability stages/exhibitions the government already hosts.

We shared a parallel story from Bali: a vocational school (SMKN 1) principal personally championed the program after watching his students affected by narcotics use, and mobilized local government support behind it. In Vietnam, our “Hanoi” initiative is publicly framed as an English conversation club — but its real purpose is deepening how kids think.

And then the story that always gets a reaction: after kids performed a local song in front of a crowd of ~20,000 people in Bali, a village mayor personally asked to have his own children included. When school-access restrictions (”considerational security”) blocked the direct route, we worked around it through private English tuition centers instead.

5. The Malaysia Gap: No Ministry, No Contacts, Just Sylvia

Sylvia asked the direct question: did we have a Ministry of Education contact in Malaysia?

DAV79: “We have zero contact. You’re the first one.”

We explained why MOE recognition matters elsewhere — co-curricular credit for participating students has helped adoption take off in other countries — but we were honest that Malaysian public-school bureaucracy is a wall we haven’t cracked yet. Our fallback, as it was in Indonesia against its own “severe red tape,” is to go school-by-school or parent-group-by-parent-group rather than wait for a national agreement.

6. The Big Question for Sustainability Module

Every stop on our route carries one open-ended question the kids are meant to investigate themselves — never lectured, always discovered. For the planned Malaysia leg:

• Singapore: “Why is a modern, developed, efficient country so expensive — shouldn’t efficiency make things more affordable? And why are people there not happy?” We may not be doing Singapore any more - but our questions remain.

• Ipoh: “There’s so much resource, capability, and potential here — why is it not running at full efficiency?”

• Malacca: “Where is the soul? Everything is inflated, hyped — but look closely at the heritage sites, the old buildings — it’s hollow. Ghost houses.”

7. The Numbers

For context, a boot camp of this nature costs roughly SGD 3,800 in total, covering accommodation and activities for 44 participants — approximately SGD 90 per person for a 3-day camp. This was based on a Vietnam boot camp involving travel to a single location.

In Malaysia, we could reasonably expect costs to be around 30% higher, particularly given the increased complexity of the programme. With the current three-city format, the estimated cost would be approximately RM 750 per participant.

This would comprise around RM 600 for shared accommodation, local transportation and activities, plus SGD 50 for the individual Mindset Report.

For international participants, this would be separate from the core programme cost. They would also need to budget for airfare and travel insurance, which can vary significantly depending on their country of departure and booking date.

Several weeks ago, a parent from Hanoi approached DAV79 and mentioned that a similar boot camp in Singapore cost around SGD 3,500. DAV79 was shocked.

It raised a bigger question: what are parents actually paying for? If the journey is deliberately designed to be challenging, messy and experiential, then there will naturally be costs associated with making it happen. Accommodation, transportation, activities, coordination and administration all have real costs.

But those costs should never become an excuse for unscrupulous profit. Every charge should be connected to genuine value delivered to the child and the experience.

The philosophy is simple: convenience is not, in itself, a value. If the programme is designed to take children out of their comfort zones, we should not then charge families a premium simply for making the experience more convenient for ourselves or for them. The messiness is part of the learning — and the price should reflect the real cost of creating that learning experience, not the price of convenience.

8. The Actual Ask — and Sylvia’s First Thoughts

This was the center of the conversation. We said it plainly:

DAV79: “We need your advice... we need to see if we can do this on a collaborative note. In October, we bring in members... we can get students from here.”

Sylvia didn’t say yes, and she didn’t say no. She asked for scope, first:

Sylvia Wong: “What kind of collaboration are you talking about? What’s the extent of the collaboration? If you say you’d like to use my venue — that one is not a problem. But if you say that you want my students, my teachers to come in and collaborate — that’s different.”

Then she flagged the calendar problem we hadn’t accounted for: October–November is exam season for her core students — an external exam plus a run of school and public competitions — meaning limited bandwidth and likely reluctant parents. Her counteroffer: test with students from her non-exam classes (dance, debate, public speaking) instead, though she was upfront that she couldn’t predict turnout.

Her conditions were clear and, frankly, fair:

Sylvia Wong: She needs to understand scope, manpower, and expectations before committing. She won’t promise her students or parents something she “cannot keep” — because reputational damage today moves fast and doesn’t fade the way it used to: “A long time ago you mess up, two weeks later people forget — no longer, because it’s online.”

On money, she was equally direct: if the collaboration doesn’t cost her much and doesn’t disrupt her academy’s daily operations, she’s not here to negotiate dollars and cents — it’s about benefit to the kids, not profit.

DAV79 matched that framing from our side:

DAV79: “We’ve been running this as a mission for the last 10 years... we’ve done projects where we barely make anything, or we lose money — but it’s for our kids.”

Both sides agreed: non-commercial in spirit, but “grand” plans still demand serious execution — not “shoddy” — because both reputations are on the line.

On timing: we’re aiming to lock a plan before the 15th, with 45–50 days of prep needed. October 9–11 is currently penciled in, though we told Sylvia it’s negotiable — an earlier September date, or a compressed ~10-day prep window starting training around August 20–21, were both floated.

We were honest about risk, using two recent examples: a Singapore stage show on August 1–2 with roughly 130–140 people involved (about 100 kids on stage) that sold tickets slowly until the final two weeks; and our Vietnam “Moc Chau” camp, where local signups sat near zero until a team leader was physically on the ground — despite money already spent on homestays and logistics. Slow trust-building and upfront financial exposure, we told her, are normal parts of this kind of launch — and honestly, part of the same “failure and rejection” experience we’re asking the kids to go through too.

Sylvia’s answer, in the end:

Sylvia Wong: “Sure... I will not say I’ll give you my full commitment until I know what’s happening.”

DAV79: “Fair enough. That’s fair.”

No pressure for a yes. Just an open door and a promise to keep her posted while she tests the waters.

9. Closing the Loop: Welcome to the Global Citizens Club

We ended on something small and practical: adding Sylvia to our Telegram group, the Global Citizens Club (GCC). We use Telegram over WhatsApp for two reasons — messages can be edited or retracted, and it fits our PDPA obligations around child data. Kids in the group operate under pseudonyms (one example: “V879”) for privacy and safety.

We walked Sylvia through the privacy settings — hiding her phone number, restricting who can see her profile photo, bio, and last-seen status. There was a small hiccup adding her as a contact (her name initially showed as a number instead of “Sylvia Wong”), resolved by the end of the call.

Where This Leaves Us

Nothing was signed. Nothing needed to be. What we walked away with was better than a forced yes: a real, specific set of conditions from a partner who takes her students’ and her academy’s reputation seriously, and a shared understanding that this only works if it’s done properly — not “grand” for its own sake.

Open threads heading into the next few weeks:

• Scope: venue-only, or students and teachers actively co-training? Still undefined.

• Dates: October 8–11 penciled

• Student availability: exam season is a real constraint; the non-exam-track trial group is a live idea, not a confirmed one.

• Malaysia MOE engagement: still nonexistent — a gap we haven’t started closing.

• No calendar invite scheduled for a follow-up. The Telegram GCC group is the channel now.

Sylvia is watching. We’re building. October will tell us the rest.

Team FD was pitching via Lin91 for a small competition in Vietnam on Aug 26. The discussion was initially in Vietnamese but then later she did a secondary session with the team in English.

“Hello everyone, and thank you so much for spending time with us.”

Lin91 opened the session with a simple introduction to an ambitious idea from Fundamental Decisions Singapore and the operational arm Y Lab Vietnam: the Global Citizen Club, a worldwide community for young people aged 8 to 18, built around one central question—what happens when education begins to understand not only what a child knows or can do, but how they think and make decisions?

Lin91 explained that the Global Citizen Club is paired with one of the organisation’s core products, the Mindset Report.

“We believe it is filling a missing gap in traditional education,” Lin91 said. “It is providing a missing puzzle piece into the entire journey of any child.”

Before going into the details, Lin91 offered everyone in the session a small experience of the system itself. Participants could receive a snapshot of their mindset traits by submitting three positive points, three areas for improvement and five questions after the presentation.

Then she turned to the central issue.

“Existing educational systems are able to measure only two indicators in every child’s development,” Lin91 explained. “The first one is knowledge. The second one is skill set.”

Schools can measure knowledge through tests and examinations. They can also observe skills through projects, extracurricular activities, sports and other programmes.

“But there is a missing piece,” Lin91 continued. “Something more fundamental that traditional education is not yet able to touch.”

“Insights from Parents”

“I only understand my child at a superficial level. I know ‘what kind of person’ my child is, but I don’t really understand why, how my child thinks, how they perceive problems, how they behave, or how they make decisions, so I don’t know how to support them in the right way.”

“I don’t hesitate to invest in my child’s participation in many extracurricular activities and skills classes, but I don’t know how much is enough. Meanwhile, when my child comes home, they are still the same, and I don’t see them becoming more mature.”

“I really want to accompany my child, but I feel stuck. Either my child doesn’t cooperate, or I myself no longer know what my child needs and what I should do next.”

That missing piece, she argued, is mindset.

Mindset, in the Global Citizen framework, is not simply a personality label. It describes the journey from receiving information, forming a thought process and making a decision, through to acting on that decision.

“How they think, how they make decisions and how they behave on those decisions—that is what we categorise into mindset,” Lin91 said.

The challenge is that mindset is dynamic.

A fingerprint does not change. A date of birth does not change. But a child’s way of thinking can evolve dramatically over a year.

“That is what is missing in static evaluation,” Lin91 explained. “Our Mindset Report is the evaluation of mindset in action.”

The report therefore draws from what children actually do. Their conversations, decisions, activities, interactions, reflections and responses become part of an evolving picture.

For parents, Lin91 believes this offers something particularly valuable: clarity.

Parents today have an enormous number of educational choices. Critical thinking, sports, languages, public speaking, technology and countless other programmes compete for their attention.

“We all want the most for our children,” she said. “But parents will not always know what is best.”

The Mindset Report is intended to provide a compass—not another list of achievements.

It helps parents understand how their children see the world, how they make decisions and what values appear in their actions.

But the report needs an environment in which mindset can actually emerge.

“School is designed for children to learn knowledge and skill set,” Lin91 said. “It is not yet designed for children to test and fail, or to expose their mindset traits in action.”

That environment is the Global Citizen Club.

The concept is deliberately unusual: by children, for children.

Children do not simply attend activities. They can design, decide, plan and run them. They can become participants, hosts, journalists, media creators, speakers, storytellers and providers of material.

Different activities create different opportunities to observe them.

A child who loves drawing can demonstrate their thinking through drawings. Another may prefer writing and commenting. Another may rarely speak but carefully observe other people and provide thoughtful feedback.

“All of these activities give us ways to capture and analyse mindset,” Lin91 explained.

The system combines these observations through what the team calls a 360-degree mechanism.

This raised an important question from Linda.

“What is the framework or system that you use for the mindset evaluation?” she asked. “And if researchers and psychologists are involved, what happens if two people evaluate the same child differently?”

Lin91 explained that the organisation has developed an in-house system combining human analysis and technology.

The current model uses approximately 70 percent input from researchers, psychologists, mentors and educators, alongside 30 percent from algorithms, AI and technology.

But there is an important distinction.

“It is not a grading system against a specific framework,” Lin91 said. “There is no right or wrong in the analysis.”

Different observers may see different things—and that is intentional.

“We want that diversity. Sometimes we even want a conflict in their analysis,” she explained. “Because after that, the system will have a bigger picture of the child.”

Z the head of the GCC in Jogja then raised another challenge.

“If everyone is allowed to give feedback,” she asked, “how can the system distinguish meaningful observation from feedback that is superficial or not aligned with the topic?”

DAV79 stepped in.

He gave an example from a recent negotiation module.

“At first, most of the kids said negotiation means I need to convince others and get the best deal,” DAV79 explained.

But the programme introduced the idea of fair negotiation through sustainability.

One 10-year-old student, Ben from Vietnam, began connecting the discussion with an earlier module on leadership.

“Is it just about me winning,” DAV79 recalled asking, “or is there something beyond this?”

The child began connecting negotiation with the earlier idea of putting others first.

For DAV79, this demonstrated one of the defining features of the system: the evaluations do not operate independently.

“What we are evaluating in the third module will comprise what we did in the first and second module,” he explained. “It keeps rolling and rolling every time.”

Z immediately understood the implication.

“So it doesn’t mean that when we talk about one topic, the kids will directly understand it,” she said. “They might jump into another topic, but eventually they understand. That’s the beauty of this dynamic system.”

“Correct,” DAV79 replied.

The same philosophy extends to the relationship between children and parents.

Linda from South Africa asked how the programme could work when relationships between parents and children are already strained.

DAV79 answered with a provocative observation.

“One of the beauties about this programme is that the parents don’t have to be the bad guys.”

He described a 15-year-old ambassador, Jacob, whose parents had tried to give him advice. Jacob had built a wall and rejected their feedback.

Eventually, the parent approached Dr Giang, the GCC leader, for help.

The programme changes the dynamic by giving parents another role.

Instead of constantly telling children that they are wrong, parents can become the people children turn to when they need ideas.

DAV79 described seeing children approach their parents after difficult experiences—not to complain, but to ask:

“Can you throw some ideas on what I could do next?”

Lin91 added that some activities deliberately require children to work with their parents.

At first, some children tried to avoid this.

But the programme’s structure made parent involvement part of the challenge. Gradually, children discovered that asking their parents for help could be easier than continuing to struggle alone.

“It is a pull and push force from all the stakeholders involved,” Lin91 explained.

That includes peers, ambassadors, mentors, parents and the children themselves.

The Mindset Report therefore becomes more than an assessment.

It becomes a shared language.

DAV79 explained that parents and children reflect on the report together and align on activities for future development.

The report also evolves over time.

Z asked whether ambassadors who had participated for more than a year could see evidence of their development rather than simply receiving another conclusion.

“Yes,” Lin91 replied. “The design and the upgraded version of the report is supposed to include the progress of a child throughout time.”

The fourth report should already contain the learning and development reflected in the earlier reports.

Eventually, Lin91 imagines the Mindset Report becoming something closer to a living private coach—one that helps children understand who they are, who they want to become and which qualities they want to develop.

DAV79 took the idea further.

“What if it is no longer just a CV,” he asked, “but a Mindset Report?”

A future portfolio could show not only what a young person has done, but how they think, solve problems, make decisions and respond to their environment.

That could become valuable for schools, scholarships and eventually employers.

The Global Citizen Club has already launched in Singapore, Yogyakarta, Bali and Hanoi, with Malaysia planned for October. Each year is organised around four quarterly cycles, with bootcamps serving as stages where children demonstrate what they have practised.

For DAV79, however, the journey began with a different approach. Initially, we explored the idea of “Super Parents”—equipping parents directly to take on a stronger role in guiding their children. But we soon recognised that the gap was simply too wide. Many parents were being asked to catch up too quickly, while balancing their own responsibilities, experiences and limitations.

The Global Citizen Club became our answer. It became the ladder we introduced to help parents gradually bridge that gap, giving them a practical environment where they could understand, participate and grow alongside their children.

We also recognise that meaningful change rarely happens in a single leap. As we learn more, we may need to introduce several different ladders, each designed to help families move through a particular stage of their journey. These ladders may change, evolve or eventually disappear as families become more confident and capable.

The Mindset Report, however, remains the constant. It provides the underlying reference point through the journey. As more children, parents and communities use it, we will continue learning from the evidence and refining the temporary ladders around it—adapting the pathway while keeping the core system consistent.

“The first priority of this report is to connect families,” he said. “Make sure the parents and children talk, discuss and understand each other.”

And perhaps that is the most significant shift of all.

The Mindset Report is not intended to put children into boxes.

It is intended to help children, parents and the wider community see the journey taking place inside those boxes—and then give them the opportunity to redraw them.

As DAV79 concluded, the goal is not to bypass difficulty.

It is to navigate it, face it and become stronger through it.

When we hear the word sustainability, many of us immediately think of the same things: recycling bins, reusable bags, plastic bottles, saving water, turning off the lights, and the familiar three words:

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

These are not wrong. In fact, they are important. The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 12 explicitly calls for sustainable consumption and production, including reducing waste, reuse and recycling. UNEP also describes sustainable consumption as meeting basic needs and improving quality of life while minimizing resource use, waste and pollution.

But perhaps this is where our understanding of sustainability has become too superficial.

We have become very good at asking:

“How do we manage the things we consume?”

Perhaps we should first ask:

“Why are we consuming them at all?”

That is a very different question.

The Three Rs Come Too Late

Consider a plastic bottle.

We buy it. We drink from it. Then we put it into a recycling bin.

We congratulate ourselves because we recycled.

But the more fundamental question is:

Why did we need the bottle?

Could we have refilled one?

Could we have carried water with us?

Could the system have been designed so that the bottle never existed?

Recycling deals with the consequence of consumption. It does not necessarily challenge the reason for consumption.

This is increasingly recognized even within the sustainability field. UNEP’s circularity work puts emphasis on reducing unnecessary consumption and “rethinking how we can best meet our needs,” before reuse, repair and recycling enter the picture.

So perhaps the three Rs are not the beginning of sustainability.

They are what happens after we have already decided to consume.

What if sustainability begins one step earlier?

Before consumption.

What Is the Real Value?

There is another problem.

We live inside an economic system that depends heavily on consumption.

More products sold.
More services purchased.
More transactions.
More growth.

Marketing is exceptionally good at turning wants into perceived needs.

Something that did not exist in our lives yesterday suddenly becomes something we feel we cannot live without today.

The price can also influence our perception of value. A discount can make us feel that we are “saving money” by buying something we never needed.

And gradually, we lose an important distinction:

What something costs is not necessarily the same as what it is worth to us.

A person can spend RM500 on something and derive almost no meaningful value from it.

Another person can spend RM5 on something and receive enormous value.

The real question is, therefore, not simply:

“How much can I afford?”

It is:

“What do I actually need?”

And perhaps even:

“What genuinely adds value to my life - why do I need it?”

This is where sustainability becomes personal.

Why Do We Eat?

Take something as basic as food.

Why do we eat?

The obvious answers are correct.

We eat because we are hungry.

We eat because our bodies need energy.

We eat because without food, eventually, we die.

There is nothing wrong with these answers.

But they don’t explain everything.

Sometimes we eat because we are bored.

Sometimes because we are stressed.

Sometimes because we are celebrating.

Sometimes because we are sitting in front of a screen.

Sometimes because somebody else is eating.

Sometimes because we see an advertisement.

Sometimes because our brain has learned that a particular smell, place, time or emotion should be followed by food.

The important point is not that these behaviours are “bad.”

The important point is that consumption is not always driven by need.

Our brains, habits, environments and social conditioning influence what we consume and when we consume it.

So perhaps a sustainability question is not:

“How do I eat sustainably?”

Perhaps it begins with:

“Why am I eating right now?”

That question creates a pause between stimulus and consumption.

And that pause is powerful.

Could We Learn to Consume Considerately?

This is where we would introduce a different idea:

Considerate Consumption

Considerate consumption does not mean consuming nothing.

It does not mean rejecting the economy.

It does not mean living without comfort.

And it certainly does not mean feeling guilty every time we buy something.

It means developing the ability to consider before consuming.

To ask:

Do I need this?

Why do I want this?

What triggered this desire?

What value will this actually create?

Is there another way to meet the same need?

What happens if I simply don’t consume it?

This applies to food.

It applies to clothes.

It applies to electricity.

It applies to technology.

It applies to travel.

It applies to entertainment.

It applies to almost everything.

The objective is not necessarily less consumption.

It is more conscious consumption.

The Strange Case of Winter Clothes in Tropical Countries

We have encountered something surprising in several places across Southeast Asia.

Winter clothes.

Not in winter.

Inside tropical countries.

People wear jackets, sweaters and sometimes remarkably heavy clothing in offices where the outside temperature can be hot and humid.

Why?

Because the office is freezing.

We create an indoor environment that feels almost like winter, then buy winter clothes to survive it.

The individual decision makes perfect sense:

“I am cold. I need a jacket.”

But step back.

Why is a person in a tropical country cold enough to need a winter jacket inside an office?

The system has created a problem, and consumption has provided the solution.

The air-conditioning makes the room cold.

The person buys warmer clothing.

The additional clothing allows the room to remain cold.

The building continues consuming large amounts of energy.

And then, collectively, we worry about climate change and global warming.

There is an almost absurd contradiction here.

We create artificial cold in a hot country, consume energy to maintain it, buy clothes to protect ourselves from it, and then complain that the planet is getting warmer.

The jacket isn’t necessarily the problem.

The deeper problem is that we never questioned the system that made the jacket necessary. The only catch there was it was a bandaid solution - covering the superficial symptoms until it becomes harder to see.

That is the difference between managing consumption and considering consumption.

The Illusion of Value: Why Systems Are Expansive

A product.

A journey.

“Do I really need this?”

Not because someone told me I should consume less.

Not because I am afraid of climate change.

The Child Who Missed School

There is an interesting pattern in modern society. A child falls sick and misses school for a few days, and almost immediately the conversation shifts toward what was “lost.” Lessons missed. Assessments delayed. Grades affected. Catch-up plans required.

Very few stop to ask a simpler question first:

What happened to the child?

Chapter I

The Illness Without a Diagnosis

It began with stomach aches.

Yet many classrooms still operate as though intelligence can only be measured through rigid articulation and standardized repetition.

Shouldn’t advanced education systems become more adaptive instead of less?

Shouldn’t intelligent systems identify the strengths and capabilities of children rather than punishing differences in processing speed, communication style, or learning structure?

Not every child learns through memorization.

Not every child thrives under pressure.

And not every child who struggles academically lacks intelligence.

Some are simply drowning inside systems that refuse to recognize their minds.

Education was never meant to become psychological warfare.

This is the zero-factor effect society rarely discusses: when repeated institutional rejection slowly erodes self-belief. So the real question is no longer whether children can adapt to education systems. The real question is whether education systems are evolving fast enough to recognize the diversity of human intelligence itself.

Are we upgrading our schools to capture creativity, emotional intelligence, unconventional articulation, resilience, experimentation, leadership, and curiosity? Or are we unintentionally building environments where children slowly feel smaller, quieter, and more lost each year they remain inside them?

What are we proving. - what are we learning? Oh i have seen this before said Mike…. from an experience he shared a few years ago - looks like this is a systemic - cultural issue.

repeated nearly a thousand times across the pages.

Otherwise, society may continue producing academically functional individuals while quietly losing emotionally healthy human beings.

If we are not paying the proce for predictability - which is what robs most of the value - If we invest in structured, intentional development with care, we could be nurturing national-level Taekwondo athletes, master chefs, boxers, or football champions—rather than defaulting to purely academic pathways.

“I love the program so much… but why are so many people leaving us, sir?”

There was a pause.

“What can we do to increase stickiness?”

And slowly, the room began to arrive at an uncomfortable realization:

People are not usually resisting change because they are incapable of it.

They are resisting because transformation destabilizes coherence.

Human beings are not primarily optimized for evolution.

They are optimized for stability - or so we have seen so far. But that could be challenged when our existing structures are pushed further. Like Bias.

Even painful routines provide structure. Even limiting identities provide orientation. Even unresolved discomfort can feel safer than unknown possibility.

Familiar suffering is still familiar.

And familiarity is one of the strongest forms of psychological safety.

This is why resistance is often misunderstood.

Resistance is not always rebellion.

Sometimes it is preservation.

And in some cases, it becomes misinterpreted as disengagement — or worse, active rejection. Occasionally, when threat perception rises, it can even turn into hostility, as if the “spaceship” itself is a destabilizing force rather than an invitation forward.

And those systems create additional consequences of their own.

If repeated attempts yield identical results, continuing is irrational. The key decision skill is recognizing when to stop and reallocate resources. The phrase “we tried 27 ways and are still here” illustrates the need for strategic exit decisions .

This introduces resource allocation as a decision principle. Time, not just money, is emphasized as a critical constraint. Organizations or individuals that persist in failing paths risk losing market relevance while others solve the problem differently. Decision-making, therefore, includes knowing when to abandon a path as well.

The conversation also contrasts resilience vs. delusion. While persistence is often celebrated, it can become counterproductive when disconnected from evidence. True resilience involves adaptation and learning, not blind repetition. There must be progress.

Another key dimension is the dynamic nature of mindset and environment. Traditional systems assume static measurement and control, but reality is fluid and volatile. The idea of “as-is vs. to-be” is introduced:

• “As-is” reflects current reality

• “To-be” reflects desired outcomes

Many decisions are driven by the “to-be” state while ignoring the “as-is,” creating misalignment. Effective decision-making requires integrating both.

There is also a critique of measurement systems and traditional psychology. While measurement provides structure, it can impose false stability in a dynamic system. However, the counterpoint is that measurement still has value as a snapshot of current state, provided it is continuously updated. Decision-making improves when individuals track changes in their mindset over time rather than treating it as fixed.

A practical insight emerges around assumptions as the foundation of decisions. Mindset is essentially a collection of assumptions. These assumptions persist until challenged. Fixed mindsets assume stability and control, while growth-oriented approaches accept uncertainty and change.

The discussion includes a concrete example involving financial reconciliation. Despite access to advanced tools (including AI), the speaker could not resolve an issue due to personal bias and oversight. External tools produced incorrect outputs, reinforcing that decision quality depends on human judgment, not just technology. The resolution required manual re-evaluation and identification of flawed assumptions. This illustrates that tools cannot replace critical thinking and may even amplify errors if used uncritically .

Finally, the conversation concludes with a systemic observation: the world is changing faster than individuals’ mindsets. This creates cognitive dissonance, particularly in professional contexts. People operate with outdated assumptions while facing rapidly evolving environments (e.g., AI replacing traditional roles). This mismatch leads to poor decisions, reduced employability, and strategic stagnation.

Eventually, decision-making quality is determined less by knowledge of frameworks and more by the ability to confront bias, update assumptions, manage fear, and make strategic trade-offs under uncertainty. The central capability is not choosing correctly every time, but identifying “the right wrong” versus “the wrong wrong”—accepting that error is inevitable, but optimizing which errors are worth making .

CASE 1 — DUCKY

“I want to quit. I feel empty.”

When someone says, “I don’t trust you anymore” and “my purpose is gone,” they’re not reacting to a single moment.

They’re giving voice to something that has been building quietly over time.

Two signals sit beneath those words:

1. “I don’t trust you anymore.”
This points to a breakdown in consistency and alignment. At some point, what we said, did, or stood for stopped matching what they believed—or what they relied on.

2. “My purpose has gone.”
This goes deeper. It reflects a loss of direction and meaning—not just in what we are doing, but in why we are doing it.

When these two fractures combine, the experience can feel like a slow internal collapse. Motivation drains. The future becomes harder to see. Personal value starts to feel uncertain.

Left unaddressed, this doesn’t just affect individuals—it becomes a pattern organisations begin to notice more and more. It could also lead to large scale depression.

CASE 2 — ALE

“Why are people leaving us Mr?”

Ale, a 10-year-old, asked this with pure curiosity when he saw members trickly away slowly.

And sometimes the simplest question cuts the deepest.

People don’t leave suddenly.
They disconnect gradually.

It’s rarely a single event. It’s erosion.

We went from 386 members to 366.
Less than 10% over three months.

On paper, that looks small.

In reality, it’s a pattern. This is where we get bored and start the hunt for another newness. The problem is we are still not training our minds to fight this boredom.

CASE 3 — NUR

Why me?”

Nur once described herself like this:

“I guess I’m that pampered princess who got used to every gate in the theme park opening for her… so when the rides suddenly shut down, I sulk.”

And then, one day, the gates didn’t open.

The world shifted.
Support felt distant.
Trust began to fracture….

”now i have to do this differently…. more crumbs… haiz - she thought”

Expectation met reality—and reality didn’t negotiate.

We’re seeing this pattern more often with younger individuals. shorter attention span - quicker results and validation. Not as a flaw in character, but as a consequence of how environments have been designed around them. When too much of the path is pre-cleared, the experience of navigating uncertainty never fully develops.

Flo, a French collaborator working in Australia, once put it simply:

“It’s like a game where we carry a heavy rock to the top of a mountain. Now we have robots to do it for us—and suddenly, we lose interest in climbing at all, especially without the rock.”

Because the truth is—
it was never about reaching the top.

It was about carrying the rock.

The weight, the struggle, the effort—that’s where meaning lives.
Remove that, and the journey feels empty… even if the destination is still there.

So when resistance finally appears—when doors don’t open, when outcomes aren’t guaranteed—it doesn’t just feel like a challenge.

It feels like a rupture.

Because the journey was never meant to be removed.

It was meant to be lived.

There are many more stories like these……..

But they all point to the same tension.

So here we are.

We need to talk about what’s really happening inside our organisation.

We’ve been running an experiment—not one with clear metrics or predictable outcomes, but one that deliberately removes the safety net of immediate results.

And we didn’t test this on a few people.

We placed the entire ecosystem into it.

Everything. Everyone.

For nearly 10 years.

Naturally, it became unpredictable. Messy. Difficult to hold onto.

And that’s where the tension begins.

Because what we’ve come to realise is this:

We are behaving like finite players inside an infinite environment.

And that mismatch creates constant friction.

We start asking:

• Do we have value?

• Are we contributing enough?

• Where are the results?

And when those answers don’t come quickly enough, people leave.

Not because they lack ability—

but because they are operating with a finite mindset.

They expect timelines, guarantees, visible outcomes.

We talk about resilience.
We talk about grit.

But in reality?

We often wait for small wins—crumbs—to keep us going.
We expect effort from others, while hesitating to fully commit ourselves.

And here’s the uncomfortable part:

That’s not the world we’re operating in.

We are in an ecosystem that is dynamic, unpredictable, and constantly shifting—more like a living organism than a structured organisation.

It evolves. It adapts. It reshapes itself in real time.

We call it a VUCA world.

But in Team FD, we redefine it:

The “U” is not just uncertainty.

It is the unknown.

And the unknown has always been humanity’s deepest discomfort.

In this environment, outcomes are not fixed—they move.

Sometimes faster than we can interpret.

And when that happens, we feel left behind—as if the system is progressing without us.

Even time begins to feel different.

It stretches. Compresses. Rearranges itself based on urgency and alignment.

Almost as if we’re brushing against something non-linear—something that doesn’t behave the way we were taught to expect.

A simple example:

We once requested a report from a director.

The answer: three weeks.

Meetings. Travel. Priorities.

So we summarised the request and looped in the CEO.

Within minutes, we got a call:
“The report is ready. It’s on your table.”

Three weeks… collapsed into minutes.

So what does that tell us?

Time is not as fixed as we think.

In an infinite system, things move based on alignment and intent—not just schedules.

And in this world, the real challenge is not execution.

It’s mindset.

We’ve been trying—honestly, struggling—to build an infinite mindset within our team.

Because an infinite mindset asks something deeply uncomfortable:

To keep moving without needing immediate results.

To measure progress not just by outcomes—but by advancement.

Not by timelines—but by trajectory.

That’s why some people stay.

Not because it’s easy—

but because they are learning to see differently.

To loosen their grip on time.
To detach from short-term validation.
To stay in motion.

At the same time, reality doesn’t disappear.

We still need sustainability. Income. Stability.

That tension is real.

So the real question becomes:

Can we pursue sustainability without collapsing into a purely finite mindset?

Because that’s where most organisations break.

We say we want long-term impact—
but operate under short-term pressure.

We say we value purpose—
but abandon it when results don’t appear fast enough.

It is hard to commit to a journey without a destination.

A journey that loops. Repeats. Refines.

At times frustrating. At times exhausting.

But for those who understand it—

this is where transformation actually happens.

As Simon Sinek helped articulate:

The most valuable mindset today is not just growth.

It is infinite.

Growth still implies milestones and endpoints.

An infinite mindset asks something deeper:

How do we keep evolving without needing the reassurance of arrival?

And that requires letting go.

We cannot be anchored to past success.
We cannot define ourselves by what used to work.

We have to stay adaptive.

Because leadership alone is not enough.

Saying “we lead” means nothing unless we understand:

• what we are leading

• toward what

• and within what kind of system

Without awareness, leadership becomes performance.

With awareness, it becomes navigation.

That’s where we are now.

We are deepening that awareness—individually and collectively.

We are building tools like mindset reviews—not to measure performance, but to understand trajectory.

• Who are we becoming?

• Where are we actually going?

Because passion might hold us for a while.

Purpose might sustain us longer.

But without an infinite mindset—

both will eventually crack.

And here is the uncomfortable truth:

We often say we believe one thing…
but act differently when reality challenges us.

We defend.
We justify.
We protect what feels familiar.

And the more capable we are—

the better we become at justifying misalignment.

That’s the trap.

The real challenge is not intelligence.

It is our ability to operate in the unknown.

To function inside uncertainty.

To keep moving when nothing feels certain.

Right now, most individuals—and most organisations—are not fully equipped for that.

And that’s why growth stalls.

Not because capability is missing—

but because the mindset does not match the game.

An infinite one.

So if you feel like quitting…
If you feel like leaving…
If you feel like withdrawing—

pause.

This is not the signal to exit.

This is the moment of training.

This was a teacher training designed to examine how educators engage with AI—not at the level of tools, but at the level of thinking, judgment, and responsibility.

The day began without a formal reset. Some participants were already transitioning out, others were still resolving unfinished tasks. This lack of closure was not incidental. It reflected the reality AI introduces into education: work no longer follows clean boundaries. Tasks overlap, information flows continuously, and completion becomes ambiguous.

Early operational issues—miscommunication, delays, unclear coordination—were not just logistical noise. They mirrored the same fragmentation teachers face when integrating AI into their workflows. Instructions are incomplete, outputs are inconsistent, and systems do not behave predictably.

When sessions began without waiting for all facilitators, a critical shift became visible. The system no longer depended on authority figures. It operated independently. This is structurally aligned with AI environments, where control is distributed and outcomes are not centrally managed.

The core of the training was not about teaching AI tools. It was about exposing how teachers think when interacting with them.

This became clear during the central exercise: identifying problems.

Teachers were first asked to generate challenges manually. Most groups produced a limited number—typically four to eight. This reflected natural cognitive boundaries. Without augmentation, problem discovery remains constrained by personal experience and perspective.

They were then instructed to use multiple AI systems to expand their list.

The results diverged sharply.

Some groups treated AI as a shortcut—asking generic prompts and accepting surface-level answers. Their outputs increased slightly but remained shallow.

Other groups engaged differently. They used AI iteratively, challenged responses, and combined outputs across participants. Their results expanded exponentially. One group reached nearly twenty distinct challenges within the same timeframe.

The difference was not technical skill. It was cognitive approach.

This was the central lesson: AI does not inherently produce better thinking. It amplifies the quality of the user’s thinking.

A second insight emerged when teachers evaluated AI responses. Many initially reported satisfaction—answers were fast, structured, and comprehensive. However, when probed deeper, gaps became clear.

AI often returned symptoms, not root causes.

For example, identifying “poor time management” among students is descriptive, but not explanatory. Without deeper questioning, AI reinforces superficial understanding.

The training emphasized this distinction. Responsible AI use is not about accepting outputs—it is about interrogating them.

Teachers were pushed to challenge AI:

• Why does this problem exist?

• What assumptions is this based on?

• What is missing?

Only through this second layer of questioning did responses become meaningful.

Another key theme was the shifting role of teachers.

AI can generate content, structure lessons, and provide explanations. This reduces the traditional value of content delivery. However, the training highlighted what AI cannot replicate: human energy, presence, and the ability to create engagement.

This reframes the role of the teacher:

• from information provider

• to experience designer and cognitive challenger

The discussion on younger generations reinforced this urgency. Students today operate with instant access to information and high-speed digital interaction. Their expectations are shaped by immediacy and responsiveness.

Without integrating AI, teachers cannot match this pace.

However, matching pace alone is insufficient. The training made clear that the real gap is not technological, but relational and cognitive:

• students struggle with articulation

• conflict resolution is weak

• expression is limited

These are areas AI cannot fully address. They require human intervention.

This defines responsible AI usage in education:
AI handles scale and speed; teachers handle depth and meaning.

The group exercise further revealed collaboration patterns. Some teams operated linearly—each member contributing individually. Others adopted a “starfish” model, where each input generated multiple new directions through AI. The latter approach produced significantly higher output.

This demonstrated a critical operational principle:
AI effectiveness increases when combined with collaborative structures, not isolated use.

By the end of the session, the training had shifted from tool usage to system thinking.

Teachers were no longer just learning how to use AI. They were examining:

• how AI changes problem discovery

• how it alters thinking patterns

• how it exposes weaknesses in reasoning

The closing challenges reinforced this transition.

Building 100 ambassadors and generating ecosystem value were not student tasks in this context. They were proxies for scalability and real-world application of AI-integrated thinking.

Teachers were being positioned not as users of AI, but as system builders who must:

• guide students in using AI critically

• design environments where AI enhances, not replaces thinking

• ensure that speed does not eliminate depth

The training did not aim to provide answers.

The responses from the 20+ teachers revealed a shift, but not a uniform one.

Most reactions expressed increased clarity. Teachers reported a better understanding of how AI could be positioned within learning—not as a central driver, but as a supporting instrument. Several explicitly noted that AI should not replace thinking, indicating a recalibration of how they framed its role.

At the same time, a more cautious awareness emerged. Teachers recognized that student interaction with AI introduces new dependencies. The concern was not only misuse, but passive reliance—students arriving at answers without engaging with the underlying problem. This indicated a growing sensitivity to the difference between access to information and actual understanding.

A smaller subset of responses moved beyond general awareness into structural insight. These reflections identified that AI changes the nature of teaching itself. It alters how students process information, how quickly they expect results, and how they engage with tasks. In this view, AI was not simply an addition to the classroom, but a factor that reshapes learning conditions.

There was also a noticeable shift in teacher positioning. Rather than avoiding AI, teachers expressed readiness to engage with it—while maintaining control over how it is used. This included guiding students, setting boundaries, and ensuring that AI supports rather than substitutes learning processes.

However, most responses remained at the level of recognition. They reflected understanding, but not yet operational change. The transition from insight to implementation had not yet occurred.

Overall, the feedback suggested three concurrent movements:

• acceptance of AI as part of the learning environment

• recognition of its impact on student behavior

• early awareness of the need to actively manage its use

he teachers were invited to move beyond reflection and participate in the next phase—ecosystem development within the school.

Two initiatives were introduced.

The first was the Gallery initiative. This was positioned as more than a display effort. It was a platform to connect the school with external audiences, with potential downstream impact on tourism-related activities. The emphasis was on creating something that extends beyond the classroom and generates visible value.

The second was the development of an e-booklet. This was intended to document and deepen understanding of the bootcamp’s philosophy—not as a summary, but as a structured articulation of its principles, experiences, and underlying thinking.

Both initiatives served a broader purpose. They shifted teachers from participants to contributors—testing whether insights from the training could translate into tangible outputs.

The open question remained: who would be sufficiently impacted by the experience to take ownership and carry these initiatives forward.

The session did not resolve the tensions mentioned above…

It made them visible and through the initiative a possible option to solve.

It exposed a gap:
between using AI efficiently
and using AI responsibly.

It ended with a shift in responsibility.

Teachers were no longer evaluating AI.

They were being evaluated by how they think with it.

We repeat it like a rule: trust is earned.

But earned how? Measured against what? And by whom?

The word floats—soft, overused, conveniently undefined. Yet every decision we make leans on it.

So instead of defining trust, trace it. Not as an idea, but as a pattern. A series of signals. Fragments of moments where something either holds—or quietly breaks.

Look closely enough, and trust stops being abstract. It starts behaving like a system. Almost an algorithm.

This is not a theory. It’s a reconstruction—from scattered stories, subtle cues, and decisions that seemed small at the time.

CHAPTER 1. RUSTY

Rusty wasn’t a car. Rusty was a gamble with wheels. RUST BUCKET

An old Katana—engine still strong, everything else… negotiable. The kind of vehicle that sounded like it was arguing with itself even when standing still. No brakes worth trusting, a battery that behaved like it had mood swings, and control that felt more like a suggestion than a guarantee.

Before the trip, a friend looked at it, then at me, and asked, “Will she survive?”

I took a breath and said, “I trust him.”

Not the machine. Something else…

And just like that, the journey began.

Mc D somewhere in Cangu…. decided not to take a hotel room for the night. By the time I reached Bedugul, it was 2 a.m. The cold there doesn’t creep—it grabs. I pulled into a Circle K, the only place still awake in a sleeping mountain. The staff were warm, easygoing. I had a Magnum ice cream in my hand—because why not—and the absurdity of that moment almost balanced out the freezing air.

Eventually, I climbed into Rusty and tried to sleep.

Two hours later, at 4 a.m., the cold had sharpened. The world was quiet in that eerie, high-altitude way. I turned the key.

Nothing.

No cough. No struggle. Just silence. PITCH BLACK silence.

“Fatoosh…actually suppsed to mean WTF”

That word hung in the air as panic crept in. No signal. No help. Just me, a dead car, and a mountain that didn’t care. I had a meeting to attend at 8:00 and another at 10:00. Critical.

For a moment, everything tightened.

Then—an idea.

Crazy, but clean.

I was near the peak. Gravity was on my side.

Jump start.

I went back into the Circle K, got one of the staff, and together we pushed Rusty onto the slope. It didn’t take long before the weight of the mountain took over. The car started rolling.

Slowly at first.

Then faster.

Then fast enough that the road stopped feeling like a road and more like a decision.

Pitch black. No headlights worth trusting. Just the faint outline of descent and the knowledge that this was a one-shot attempt. Ahead, the road would narrow. After that, no room for error.

This was it.

I tried to start the engine.

Nothing.

Still dead.

The car picked up speed.

Panic snapped back in—sharp, loud, unforgiving.

“What the hell? Why didn’t it start? What did I miss? Idiot move. Idiot— the voice inside screamed”

And then, cutting through the noise like a slap:

“The key.”

I hadn’t turned the ignition on.

For a split second, everything went still—not outside, but inside.

Then action.

Turn.

Ignition.

And instantly—

Rusty roared back to life.

The engine caught, the descent stabilized, and just like that, the chaos reorganized itself into motion again.

No applause. No dramatic ending.

Just a machine running… and a road continuing.

Later, it would be easy to say I trusted the car.

But that wouldn’t be true.

Rusty was unpredictable from the start. That never changed.

What held the journey together wasn’t certainty. It wasn’t control.

It was something quieter, buried under the panic and the noise:

The ability to lose awareness… and find it again before it was too late.

Because in that moment—free-falling down a mountain in the dark—it wasn’t about whether the car would work.

It was about whether I could catch the one mistake that mattered.

And act on it in time.

CHAPTER 2. : WHEN THE SYSTEM FAILS

A Weak signal.

And a map that felt… confident.

Too confident.

Still, I followed.

Because in that moment, following something felt easier than deciding.

The road narrowed.

Then twisted.

Then disappeared into something that didn’t feel like a road anymore.

No lights. No houses. No signs of life.

Just jungle.

Dense. Silent. Watching.

And then it hit me.

This wasn’t a normal route.

This was one of those routes—the kind locals don’t even joke about taking at night.

The kind you don’t “end up” on by accident.

You’re led there.

I switched.

Not emotionally.

Operationally.

Everything sharpened.

• Every sound mattered

• Every turn was deliberate

• Every meter was evaluated

No more passive following.

Only active navigation.

Then—

The road ended.

Not metaphorically.

Literally.

A cliff.

Nothing ahead but empty space and the kind of drop that doesn’t give second chances.

Silence.

Engine running.

Heart louder than both.

Slowly, carefully, I reversed.

No rush.

No panic now.

Just precision.

Because at that point, panic wasn’t useful anymore.

Only awareness was.

Back on stable ground, I stopped.

Looked into the darkness.

“I don’t trust Google,” I said out loud.

The jungle didn’t respond.

But something inside did.

back to business, I remembered something someone once told me:

“Google doesn’t just give directions. It reflects decisions.”

Choose predictability—it gives you roads.

Choose adventure—

It gives you stories you didn’t ask for.

And out there, in the middle of nowhere, with no signal and no certainty…

I realized something quietly unsettling:

Maybe it wasn’t leading me.

Maybe I was.

So I recalibrated.

Not the map.

Myself.

Because this journey was never about finding the right route.

It was about staying aware enough… and making the right decisions without panic?

To know when to stop following.

TO SEE BETTER , CLOSE YOUR EYES

CHAPTER 3 - THE SCHOOL

It was a school this time. At first glance, it felt stable, structured—even predictable. The teachers were warm, the space open, the welcome quiet but genuine. Nothing resisted. Nothing pushed back. And yet, beneath that calm surface, there was a different kind of unpredictability—one that didn’t come from nature or machines, but from people, systems, and expectations.

We had made a simple promise: a laptop. Not new or impressive, but functional—a Mac 12 that still had life in it. It was enough. Ms. Z and I handed it over, and it was received with a smile—grateful, uncomplicated, without ceremony. But the real exchange wasn’t the device. It was the agreement that followed.

The school would bring people—readers, thinkers, participants. More voices, more engagement, more unpredictability. The students had already begun. A few had joined; others hovered at the edge. The challenge was no longer participation, but expansion.

This wasn’t driven by excitement. It was formalized in an MoU—structured, agreed upon, committed. It was the third year of engagement. By then, trust was no longer emotional; it had become a pattern.

But patterns don’t guarantee outcomes. Plans rarely survive contact with reality. Everyone in the room understood this, even if it remained unspoken.

So they returned to what they had learned before—not control, not certainty, but preparation of a different kind. They began to visualize not fixed outcomes, but capability: a future where imperfect conditions were expected, not feared—where adaptation, response, and reconstruction were part of the process.

The Dream Builder emerged first—not to imagine something ideal, but something possible under pressure. Then came the Strategist, asking not whether things would work, but how to respond when they didn’t. Alongside them operated three essential roles: the Watchful Spirit, noticing what others overlooked; the Insight Miner, extracting meaning from noise; and the Storyteller, shaping continuity from chaos.

This was not new territory. The context had changed, but the core remained the same.

The quarter was defined as Daily Discovery. It sounded simple, almost gentle. But in practice, it demanded discipline. Discovery was not about finding something new; it was about maintaining awareness long enough to recognize what was already unfolding—every day, without assumption or autopilot.

In another school nearby, the principal called his team to sit in and listen. He trusted the intend - not because it was easier - but because he saw something not many people could see. - the purpose that binds. A lot of people ask for objectives of the company - because they want to be able to trust it - then the brain re-wires that to another objective - do i benefit from it? if yes how much - if no why should i even do it. These give way to decisions - most decisions are executed from shallow ranges. But sometime the depth is extremley valuable and can even change a community.

At the center of it all was trust. Not declared trust, not contractual trust, not even trust built over years. This was something deeper. It required the willingness to move forward without guarantees—uncertain who would commit, who would withdraw, what would fail, and what might unexpectedly succeed.

In the end, the effort was not about delivering a laptop or increasing participation. It was not even about leadership in the traditional sense. It was about developing individuals who could function effectively within uncertainty—together. It was done because once a promise was delivered.

“Could you explain which part of my work sounded like a template? I want to improve it.”

That approach converts conflict into learning.

In leadership development, moments of pressure are important. They reveal how a person responds when emotions are tested.

Under pressure, three common reactions appear:

Defend — protect the ego.
Attack — blame others or shut down.
Reflect — pause and seek improvement.

Critical thinking and emotional regulation make the third response possible. They allow a person to separate facts from interpretation and move from defensiveness toward learning.

Sometimes there is also a fourth path: defusing tension with a little humor. A quick-witted response can release pressure and prevent emotions from escalating. When used well, humor shows confidence and emotional control without dismissing the feedback.

In the story, Alya initially reacted with anger and frustration. But after some time and reflection, she returned and apologized.

That shift matters.

It suggests the beginning of growth. Leadership is rarely about never reacting emotionally. It is about recognizing the moment, stepping back, and choosing a better response the next time.

And when that happens, the path begins to shift from conflict toward learning. Sometimes, those with a touch of playful wit recover the fastest—they use humor to steady themselves, regain emotional control, and turn a tense moment into an opportunity to move forward.

The leadership role plays revealed something very important: leadership is not learned from theory, but from tension, conflict, pressure, and responsibility. Through the scenarios and reflections, members did not just talk about leadership — they revealed how they actually think, feel, and act when placed in difficult situations. This is where real leadership learning happens. The role plays were not about finding the correct answers, but about understanding themselves — their instincts, fears, values, and decision-making under pressure.

From the responses, one of the biggest things members learned was that leadership is not about control, but about responsibility. Many members showed that when a teammate was struggling, they felt conflicted between finishing fast and helping the team member. This shows that they are beginning to understand that leadership is not only about results, but also about people. Several members said they would still help the struggling teammate even if it slowed the team down slightly, because they believed teamwork mattered more than speed. This reflects an important leadership principle: leaders do not leave people behind just to win.

Another important learning area was emotional control. When members were asked how they would respond if someone criticized their leadership in front of others, many said they would feel hurt, embarrassed, defensive, or angry at first, but they would try to stay calm, listen first, and respond respectfully. This shows that members are beginning to understand that leadership is not about reacting emotionally, but about responding thoughtfully. A leader must manage their emotions before managing the situation.

Members also learned about fairness and self-reflection. In the scenario where a team member was always late, many members said they would first reflect on themselves, especially if they were sometimes late too. This shows a very important leadership concept: leaders must judge themselves before judging others. Leadership is not about being perfect, but about being honest, fair, and responsible.

Another strong learning area was about ideas and decision making. When teams chose an idea that was not their own, many members said they would still support the team’s decision even if they disagreed. This shows that they are learning that leadership is not about always being right, but about helping the team succeed, even when the decision is not yours. Supporting a team decision is often harder than leading your own idea, but it is an important leadership skill.

Members also reflected deeply on failure. Many said that when their ideas failed, they felt disappointed, embarrassed, or frustrated, but they also felt proud that they tried. This shows an important shift in mindset: failure is not the opposite of leadership — it is part of leadership. Leaders must learn, adapt, and try again.

However, the role plays also revealed areas where members still need to grow to become stronger leaders.

One major area is decisiveness. Many responses showed that members prefer discussion, agreement, and teamwork, which is good, but leadership also requires making decisions when there is no agreement. Leaders cannot always wait for everyone to agree. Sometimes a leader must decide and take responsibility for the outcome.

Another area is firmness and discipline. Some members focused a lot on being kind, patient, and understanding, which are good leadership qualities, but leadership also requires standards, accountability, and discipline. A leader must sometimes make difficult decisions, confront problems directly, and ensure that responsibilities are carried out.

Confidence is another area for development. Many members showed hesitation when their ideas were rejected or when the team disagreed with them. Leaders must be open to feedback, but they must also be able to stand by their ideas when necessary and communicate their vision clearly.

Strategic thinking is another area that needs development. Some responses focused mainly on teamwork and motivation, but leadership also requires planning, prioritization, risk analysis, and long-term thinking. Leaders must not only manage people, but also direction, strategy, and execution.

From all the reflections and role plays, we can summarize the leadership learning into a few key lessons:

Members learned that leadership is about responsibility, not authority.
Members learned that leadership is about people, not just results.
Members learned that leadership requires emotional control.
Members learned that failure is part of leadership.
Members learned that teamwork is more important than individual success.
Members learned that leaders must reflect on themselves before judging others.

And the areas they need to develop further are:

• Decisiveness

• Firmness and discipline

• Confidence in ideas and direction

• Strategic thinking

• Communication and influence

• Accountability and standards

The deeper role plays were very important because they forced members to look inside themselves, not just give textbook answers. Leadership is not revealed when everything is easy. Leadership is revealed when there is conflict, pressure, disagreement, failure, unfairness, and uncertainty.

These role plays placed members in exactly those situations. Here are their scores. The objective is not to compare yourself with others. That is often the first instinct, and many systems make it convenient to think that way. But the real measurement is not against another person — it is against yourself: how you think, how you decide, how you react under pressure, and how you grow from one situation to the next. The score is not a ranking - even though it says so. It is a mirror.

“Good morning, Cloudy, how are you?” he asked.

Cloudy greeted him back, and DAV79 immediately began explaining that they were entering the planning stage for upcoming programs. He sounded excited as he explained that the planning phase was always the most interesting part, because this was where ideas were formed, directions were decided, and the real work began. He reminded everyone to stay connected and check their communication channels — WhatsApp, Telegram, and Zalo — because information would be shared across those platforms regularly.

They were still waiting for another participant to join — Ta. DAV79 mentioned that she might currently be focused on Project ∞ rather than the Global Citizen program, but they would discuss everything together once she joined the call.

After a short wait, Ta joined the meeting and apologized for missing the earlier confirmation message. DAV79 reassured her immediately that it was not a problem and introduced himself properly. He also introduced Cloudy, explaining that she had been working with their programs for a long time and had been involved in many projects and activities.

The conversation then moved into a lighter tone as they joked about accents and language. Ta commented that DAV79 sounded like someone who spoke Spanish and English together, and DAV79 laughed, explaining that his accent often changed depending on who he was speaking to. This small conversation helped everyone relax before they moved into the serious discussion.

After the introductions, DAV79 explained the purpose of the meeting. He said the discussion had two main goals: first, to introduce their organization and what they do; second, to explore how they could collaborate together, especially in relation to Organisation J and youth programs.

He began explaining their organization and their focus on mindset development, leadership research, and decision sciences. He emphasized that their programs were not typical training programs. Instead, they were research-based programs focused on leadership behavior, decision-making, mindset development, and human behavior across schools, universities, organizations, and governments.

The conversation then became more serious when DAV79 spoke about their previous collaboration with Organisation J. He explained that they had worked together before but had to terminate the collaboration due to leadership issues and broken commitments. He spoke very clearly about their values — commitment, integrity, and leadership responsibility were extremely important to them, and they did not compromise on these values.

He explained that when promises were broken or leadership standards were not met, they had to make difficult decisions, including ending partnerships. However, he also said that they still respected Organisation J and were open to collaboration again if the organization was ready and aligned with their values.

Ta listened carefully and then began sharing her own story. She explained how she first learned about Organisation J during the COVID period, when Organisation J helped sponsor food and support for people in Saigon during the lockdown. That experience made her interested in the organization, and she later joined because she believed Organisation J had potential to help people and develop young leaders.

However, she also spoke honestly about the challenges. She explained that sometimes organizations are good in concept, but the people inside may not fully understand the mission or may not have strong commitment. She said she was someone who believed strongly in commitment — if she started something, she wanted to finish it properly and take responsibility for it.

She explained that sometimes in teams, only one person works while others do not take responsibility, and this can lead to burnout. She admitted that she had even left Organisation J for one year because she felt discouraged and exhausted, but she later returned because she believed the organization still had value and potential to help young people.

Then she shared her personal philosophy. She said for her, it was not about which organization a project belonged to — whether Organisation J or another organization — but about whether the work created value for people and society. She believed organizations should collaborate rather than compete if the goal was to create positive impact for young people and communities.

DAV79 listened carefully and responded thoughtfully. He explained that their organization approached leadership differently because they were running research and experiments on leadership behavior. For them, even working with difficult people or difficult organizations was valuable because it provided research data and insights into leadership behavior, decision-making, fear, ego, and motivation.

He explained that their research focused on understanding leadership psychology — especially fear, greed, ego, motivation, and corruption. He even explained a simple model they used to study corruption: laziness and greed. According to him, corruption often came from a combination of laziness and greed, and different combinations of these traits created different types of leaders.

He explained that their organization often put people into very tough environments and challenges to test leadership under pressure. He said they were known for running very tough leadership training programs, sometimes similar to military-style leadership environments, where people were pushed to their limits to test resilience, character, and leadership ability.

Ta became very interested and said she agreed with this approach. She explained that she believed leaders needed to understand their limits and learn to adapt and grow beyond them. She talked about adaptability and how leaders needed to learn to adapt when facing difficulties, pressure, and unexpected challenges.

DAV79 then showed her different leadership research concepts and models that their organization had developed over time. He talked about different types of leadership — fear-based leadership, ego-based leadership, stewardship leadership, and others. He explained that they studied leadership through real-life experiments and collaborations with organizations across different countries.

He explained that their programs operated in three main areas: schools, universities, and organizations. For schools, they focused on mindset development and leadership for young children. For universities, they ran Project ∞, which focused on university students and preparing them for leadership and future career challenges. For companies and organizations, they ran leadership and organizational mindset programs.

He then asked Ta an important question: where did she see her collaboration fitting best — schools, universities, or organizations?

Ta answered clearly that she wanted to focus on students and universities because she was currently working with young people and wanted to help develop their mindset and leadership.

DAV79 agreed and began explaining Project ∞ in more detail. He said that their biggest concern for the future was not artificial intelligence or job loss, but the mindset of the younger generation. He believed that mindset would determine how organizations and societies function in the future, and if the mindset was weak, organizations would struggle and collapse.

He explained that Project ∞ was created to help university students develop resilience, ethics, critical thinking, leadership mindset, and decision-making ability so they would be prepared for future challenges. He emphasized that the university program was free because they believed education and mindset development should be accessible to students.

He showed her examples of activities, interviews, mindset measurements, leadership development programs, and group challenges that they ran with university students. He explained that they measured mindset, leadership behavior, and decision-making through activities, interviews, discussions, and leadership challenges.

The conversation continued for quite some time, with discussions about leadership, collaboration, youth development, mindset education, and future meetings where more team members would join to explain the university programs in detail.

By the end of the meeting, something important had happened. The conversation was no longer just about collaboration between their organization and Organisation J. It had become a deeper conversation about leadership, mindset, values, commitment, and the future of young people.

DAV79 and Ta realized that they shared similar values — mindset development, leadership growth, helping young people, and creating meaningful impact rather than focusing on organizational boundaries or titles.

The meeting ended without a final agreement or formal decision, but there was something more important — alignment to explore - DAV79 invited Ta to join in the orientation program that they would reset now by a week after discussions with MIHF - the Lead Ambassador. They had started the meeting as representatives of different organizations, but they ended the meeting as people who believed in the same mission: developing leaders, building mindset, and preparing the next generation for the future.

And that was how the collaboration truly began — not with contracts or documents, but with conversations, shared values, and a belief that leadership begins not with authority, but with mindset. A contract is only but a paper. Only time would tell how far the values go - for many tests would come its way.

The next step was a deep dive into the orientation phase, the stage that would lay the foundation for the remaining nine months of 2026. This was the moment where Project ∞ would truly begin.

“Maybe we switch off the video,” someone suggested.

It was a simple beginning — screens loading, microphones adjusting, connections stabilizing — but in many ways, it reflected the very idea that would later define the entire conversation: before you can build something meaningful, you must first prepare the ground.

When the connection finally stabilized, DAV79 began to speak. He did not start by talking about courses, schedules, or logistics. Instead, he talked about mindset.

He explained that the organization was not focused on teaching children subjects in the traditional sense. It was focused on building how children think — their mindset, their leadership, their ability to see the future, their ability to work with others, and their ability to take responsibility.

“We are trying to build the mindset of children,” he explained. Not just knowledge, but how they think, decide, and act.

He described the Global Citizen program, which was built around four main ideas: leadership, awareness and critical thinking, sustainability, and entrepreneurship. These were not taught like normal school subjects. They were experienced through projects, discussions, and bootcamps where students had to work together, solve problems, and build ideas about the future.

This was where the conversation began to shift from a meeting into something deeper — a discussion about education itself.

The Bootcamp Idea

Students would live with local communities.
They would cook together.
They would do chores.
They would learn culture.
They would talk to people and listen to stories.

The goal was not tourism. The goal was empathy.

“The purpose is for them to understand humility, responsibility, empathy,” he explained. Leadership was not about standing in front and talking. Leadership was about understanding people, understanding responsibility, and learning how to serve before leading.

On the second day, the students would do something very different. They would imagine the future — Bali 2040, Hanoi 2040, Singapore 2040. They would think about cities, environment, society, and what the future could look like. This was not just creativity; this was vision. This was about building dream builders, not just students who follow instructions.

On the final day, instead of presentations, there would be a festival. Students would perform drama, music, art, and exhibitions to express ideas about leadership and society — not by explaining leadership, but by showing it through creativity and storytelling.

It was education, but it did not look like school.

Leadership Without Teachers

One of the most surprising parts of the conversation came when DAV79 explained how the bootcamp was organized.

“The program is run by the kids, for the kids,” he said.

There were ambassadors, bootcamp commanders, and participants. Adults were only facilitators for safety, conflict resolution, and support. The students themselves planned activities, led teams, solved problems, and organized events.

This was a very different model of education.

Instead of teaching leadership, they were giving responsibility.
Instead of giving instructions, they were giving ownership.
Instead of teaching confidence, they were giving situations that required courage.

Leadership was not taught. It was experienced.

The Role of Technology

During the meeting, LIN91 did not speak very often, but her role was important. She managed the AI systems, technology platforms, and digital infrastructure that supported the entire program. Much of the reading materials, documentation, and systems used by the students were built and managed through technology and AI systems.

This meant the students were not only learning leadership and vision but also working in a digital, global, connected environment. They were reading documents, writing reflections, building materials, and contributing to shared knowledge systems.

They were not just students. They were contributors.

Ms Namy’s Response

After listening to the presentation, Ms Namy responded thoughtfully. She did not immediately talk about sending students or logistics. Instead, she talked about connections and networks.

She suggested organizing an online seminar where teachers and educational organizations could learn about the program. She offered to connect the team with other organizations that worked with students in the same age group. She was thinking not just about one event but about building a network and collaboration.

The conversation began to move from presentation to partnership.

She also mentioned she might travel to Germany in April, so she would need to consider whether she could attend the Bali bootcamp herself. The decision was not immediate, but the interest was clear.

Ms Zoura’s Reflection

Later in the meeting, Ms Zoura spoke about a book she had written. She was not just a participant in the program but an observer — someone who watched how the children changed during the bootcamps.

She explained that the book was a reflection on the transformation she saw in the students — how they became more confident, more thoughtful, more responsible, and more aware of others. She wanted to document those moments of change, reflection, and clarity.

Her book was not about the activities.
It was about the transformation.

She was trying to understand how experiences change young people — how responsibility changes them, how working with others changes them, how solving problems changes them.

She was documenting not the bootcamp, but the growth of the students.

The teachers’ training session was not a typical meeting about schedules or logistics. Instead, it became a deep discussion about education, leadership, fear, and the role of teachers in shaping future leaders. The conversation moved between introductions, leadership philosophy, and the structure of the upcoming Leadership Immersive Bootcamp in Bali.

The session began with introductions. DAV79 introduced himself as a behavioral researcher who works closely with schools and universities to improve learning environments and student development. He explained that although he is not a traditional teacher, education has always been important to him because his mother was a teacher, and that influenced his interest in learning, human behavior, and how students grow and develop.

DAV79:
“I’m not a teacher, but I am part of education. Education is one of the most important parts of our evolution, and that is why I am interested in this space.”

Mr. Ratama then introduced himself as an English teacher who had been teaching for several years and shared that he was very interested in neuroscience and learning methods. He mentioned that neuroscience experiments and learning psychology were very interesting for teachers because they help teachers understand how students think and learn, not just what they learn. His comments showed that teachers were interested not only in teaching content but also in understanding how students develop and think.

Ms. Ariyani then introduced herself and shared that she had been teaching for many years and enjoyed reading and learning new things. Her experience represented the perspective of experienced educators who guide students over many years and understand that education is a long-term process, not something that happens in one program or one activity.

Ms. Zoura then introduced herself and explained that she was involved in the program as a parent and an IT consultant. She said she believed in learning environments where students can explore, think critically, and grow through real experiences and discussions rather than just memorizing information. Her perspective added another important dimension to the discussion — that leadership education is not only a school responsibility but also a community and family responsibility.

Leadership Bootcamp Is Not Just Training

DAV79 then explained that the Leadership Bootcamp is not anyway a normal training program where students sit and listen to lectures.

DAV79:
“Leadership cannot be taught only through theory. Students must experience situations, make decisions, reflect, and learn from those decisions.”

He explained that students will be placed in situations where they must work in teams, solve problems, communicate, make decisions, and reflect on their actions. Through this process, they will begin to understand leadership through experience rather than through definitions.

Fear and Decision-Making

One of the most important discussions during the session was about fear and decision-making. DAV79 explained that humans make thousands of decisions every day, and many of those decisions are influenced by fear — fear of failure, fear of embarrassment, fear of losing, fear of judgment, or fear of losing control.

DAV79:
“Many decisions we make are driven by fear. And when decisions are driven by fear, they are often wrong decisions.”

He explained that fear is not only a personal issue but also a social and global issue. Fear can lead to bullying in schools, conflicts in companies, discrimination, and even wars between countries. When people make decisions out of fear, they try to control others, gain power, or protect themselves, and this leads to poor leadership decisions.

The goal of the leadership program is therefore not only to teach leadership skills but to help students understand fear, face fear, and make decisions that are not driven by fear.

Mr. Ratama listened and encouraged the discussion to continue, showing that the teachers were interested in understanding the philosophy behind the program, not just the activities.

During the introduction part of the discussion, after DAV79 mentioned his interest in education and learning, Mr. Ratama brought up neuroscience and learning experiments.

Mr. Ratama’s main points were:

• Neuroscience is not really a formal school subject.

• It is more like something we learn through experiments and practice.

• It helps teachers understand how students learn and think.

• It is something that can be applied in teaching, not just studied as theory.

In the conversation, he basically suggested that neuroscience is important because it helps teachers understand how learning happens, not just what to teach.

Then DAV79 responded by saying that neuroscience and learning research are still evolving, meaning we are still discovering how the brain works and how people learn, and therefore education should not rely only on theory but also on experiments and practical learning methods.

Leadership vs Power

At this point, Ms. Zoura raised a very important question that shifted the discussion into a deeper leadership concept.

Ms Zoura:
“Leadership and power often look similar from the outside, but leadership is the ability to inspire people and create direction, while power is the ability to control. How do we explain to students that leadership is different from power?”

This became one of the most important discussions of the session.

DAV79:
“Leadership and power are often confused. Many people think a leader is someone who can get things done. They don’t care how it is done. But leadership is not about power. Leadership is about responsibility and influence.”

He explained that many students today think leaders are people who give orders or control others. But true leadership is about influence, responsibility, and helping others grow. Leaders do not just tell people what to do; they create direction, structure, and systems so people can work together.

The Three Leadership Roles in the Bootcamp

The discussion then moved to the structure of the Leadership Bootcamp, which is divided into three main leadership themes across three days.

Day 1 – Servant Leader
Students will work with the community, help others, observe the environment, and learn humility, empathy, and responsibility.

DAV79:
“Servant leadership teaches students that leadership is not about me. It is about something bigger than me.”

Day 2 – Vision and Future Thinking
Students will imagine the future, such as Bali in 2040, and think about what they want the future to look like and how they can contribute to building that future.

DAV79:
“Leaders must imagine the future before they build it.”

Day 3 – Change Rider (Execution and Strategy)
Students will learn how to turn ideas into action through planning, teamwork, and strategy.

DAV79:
“A change rider does not tell people what to do. A change rider creates a plan and structure, and people move because of the structure.”

This led to another important concept discussed during the session: structure drives behavior.

Structure Drives Behavior

DAV79 explained that instead of constantly telling people what to do, leaders can build structures and systems that naturally guide behavior.

DAV79:
“If you build the right structure, people will behave the right way without you telling them what to do.”

This concept is very important for both teachers and leaders. In schools, classroom structure, routines, and systems often influence student behavior more than rules or instructions. This showed that teachers themselves are also leaders because they create learning environments and structures that influence students.

Final Thoughts – Role of Teachers

The idea DAV79 was explaining can be summarized like this:

If a person’s job is only to tell others what to do, follow procedures, and manage simple tasks, AI can do that.
But if a person can inspire, plan, create vision, and lead people, AI cannot easily replace that.

Why This Was Important for Teachers

This part of the discussion was actually directed more at teachers than students.

The message to teachers was: INSPIRE

Because that is something that AI cannot easily replace.

We should use AI - not run away from it - but we must understand that we have a larger responsibility on the shoulder and that we need to be prepared to train ourselves with that.

The discussion about AI was used to explain that the future will not reward people who only follow instructions and complete tasks, because AI can do many of those tasks. The future will need people who can think, lead, plan, collaborate, and make decisions. Therefore, education and the leadership bootcamp aim to develop leadership, decision-making, teamwork, and strategic thinking skills in students so they can succeed in a future where AI changes many jobs and roles.

Towards the end of the session, it became clear that the teachers were not just helping to organize a bootcamp. They were part of a larger mission to develop leadership, character, decision-making, empathy, and teamwork in students.

The bootcamp is only one part of a longer journey. Teachers will continue guiding students before and after the bootcamp, helping them develop leadership and responsibility over time.

The main message of the session can be summarized in one idea:

Leadership is not about power.
Leadership is not about control.
Leadership is about responsibility, influence, service, vision, and helping others grow.

The Leadership Bootcamp is not designed to create students who can give orders.
It is designed to create students who can think, decide, collaborate, help others, and build a better future.

And the teachers are an important part of that journey.

Chapter 1 – Another Meeting

It was supposed to be just another meeting.

Dr. Giang had attended the bootcamp before, and something about it stayed with her. It was not the activities, not the travel, not even the children’s projects. It was something deeper — something about mindset, about how people think, how they grow, how they influence each other.

She had seen the benefit herself. Now she wanted others to see it too.

At first, she only wanted to bring her daughter. Then she thought maybe her friends’ children could also benefit. Then cousins, siblings, close friends. Slowly, what started as a small idea became a mission. She was no longer just attending — she was trying to bring a whole circle with her.

But convincing people was not easy.

Most of her friends did not understand what the program really was. They thought it was a trip. A holiday. A camp. Something optional. Something extra.

She knew it was not.

It was about how children think. How families think. How people grow.

But she struggled to explain that to them.

So instead of convincing them with explanations, she decided to do something else.

She invited everyone to come and just meet.

Just a lunch, she said.
Just come and listen.
Just come and see.

Chapter 2 – No Consensus

Even before the meeting day, Dr. Giang could already feel the resistance.

Some friends were interested.
Some were unsure.
Some were polite but clearly not convinced.
Some said they were busy.
Some asked about the cost before asking about the program.
Some asked about travel before asking about learning.

She realized something important — people cannot be convinced by explanations alone, especially when they have never experienced something themselves.

She had experienced the program firsthand.
She knew what it addressed — one of the core issues she herself faced.
But explaining that feeling to others was almost impossible.

So she made one last effort.

She invited everyone she could:

• Friends

• Their children

• Cousins

• Siblings

• Anyone willing to just come and listen

Despite cancellations, changes, and wavering responses, she did not give up.

Cloudy kept encouraging her quietly.

“It’s okay… let’s try again… maybe next time… maybe they just need to see…”

Chapter 3 – The Meeting Day

DAV79 arrived expecting a small lunch.

But he was surprised to see Cloudy already there early, and both of them were surprised to see a large space reserved. Dr Giang had made all the arrangements.

This was supposed to be just a lunch - right? errrr - may be… not sure anymore.

But DAV79 suddenly had a strange feeling. This might turn into one of those large talk shows again.

Still, he said nothing. He waited for Dr. Giang to arrive and let her lead.

Then Dr. Giang walked in — carrying a child — followed by two more children.

“Are they all yours?” DAV79 asked jokingly.

They were only familiar with Hana before. But now there were three children. Hana had grown more confident since the last time they met. The second was Nhat Minh. The third child did not know DAV79 and immediately became uncomfortable and stayed far away, insisting his mother carry him.

Dr. Giang, despite her small figure, carried him gently without complaint.

DAV79 joked,
“No wonder you stay so slim and fit. This is real-time gym training.”

Chapter 4 – Conversations at Lunch

How many people are we expecting Cloudy asked?- well we expect about 10 - the Dr replied. Soon more people arrived — friends, parents, children, relatives. The group kept growing. DAV79 and Cloudy stayed at the edges, letting Dr. Giang organize the flow.

Eventually Dr Giang moved him to the center of the table and swapped seats with him to stay close to Cloudy.

The conversation did not start with the program.
It started with a misunderstanding.

Eric looked at DAV79 and said,
“So I thought you were an educator.”

DAV79 smiled and shook his head.
“No, I’m not an educator. I do behavioral research. I study people — how people think, how people make decisions, how people change, how people grow. It started with companies. We have a program running called the Divergence … if you are interested - its a mindset transformation program. And recently, we have been working with students and families because mindset development has to start early, and it cannot be done only in schools. It has to involve parents, environment, and community.”

That answer changed the tone of the table.
This was no longer a normal education discussion.

Then Lan asked jokingly,
“Can you help my husband change his mindset so he will take care of the baby more?”

Everyone laughed.

DAV79 laughed too and replied,
“That is beyond my scope. Domestic negotiations are not part of my research.”

so my full name is P Lan…alamak!!. for my safety and yours i will address you as Ms Lan …DAV79 said….

But then he added something more serious. He turned to Eric and said,
“But actually, you are already going through a mindset transition. Moving from engineering to sales is not a small change. That is a very big shift — from technical thinking to people thinking. That itself is already a mindset change.”

Lan became very interested at this point. She wanted to know more about the program, what it was really about, and what it actually did.

Instead of explaining the program immediately, DAV79 decided to change the direction of the conversation.

He said,
“Instead of me explaining the program, I want to ask each of you a question. What is your biggest challenge right now?”

The table became quiet.

Lan then responded,
“That’s a very broad question. Can you be more specific? Challenge in what? Work? Family? Children?”

DAV79 replied,
“It can be anything. But your number one challenge. The thing that takes the most energy from you.”

Then Lan turned the question back to him.
“So what is your number one challenge?”

DAV79 paused for a moment and then answered slowly.

“My biggest challenge is energy. Not my energy — everyone’s energy. Some people can build their own energy and maintain it. But some people have the responsibility to build energy for the entire ecosystem. My challenge is how to keep everyone’s energy high, stable, and growing. Because when energy drops, everything collapses — projects collapse, motivation collapses, systems collapse, people stop moving.”

He continued,

“There are people who only need to manage themselves. That is already difficult. But there are some people who must manage an entire ecosystem — they must motivate people, encourage people, challenge people, call people, push people, support people, and make sure everyone keeps moving forward. That is much harder.”

The table became very quiet.

For the first time, the conversation moved away from cost, travel, and logistics — and moved into life, work, responsibility, and purpose.

Lan leaned forward and said,
“Can you show me a demo of what you do?”

DAV79 smiled slightly.

Unknown to everyone at the table, he had already started the experiment long before she asked that question.

The conversation moved from program details to life, children, pressure from older generations, marriage expectations, freedom of younger generations, and how society is changing everywhere — not just here.

Lunch ended.

Ironically, they had discussed many things — but not really the bootcamp itself, which was why they were there.

So Dr. Giang suggested they move to a café.

Chapter 5 – The Coffee

Then chaos began.

Last-minute location change.
People on bikes searching for the café.
Parents calling each other.
Children excited.
Some people lost.
Some people found the place first.

It became a city-wide hide-and-seek.

But strangely, the excitement grew.

By the time everyone arrived at the café in Tay Ho, they were already laughing.

The café was crowded, noisy, and chaotic. DAV79 struggled to control the pace — kids running, parents asking questions, noise everywhere, language barriers. He even had a slight experiment with the little Moon. She suddenly lost her calm as he put her on new territory - but she quickly bounced back.

Finally he said,
“Okay. Now I have questions. But not for the parents. For the kids.”

Chapter 6 – Registration and Decisions

While the children were preparing for their discussion, the parents began asking practical questions:

• How much does it cost?

• When is it?

• Do we need passports?

• Do we need visas for Bali?

• What if we don’t go to Bali?

• Can we join in Hanoi?

They slowly understood there were two options:

1. Immersive (Bali)

2. Hybrid (Hanoi)

Many felt they were not ready for Bali yet.

So they said,
“Maybe this year we stay in Hanoi. Next year we join Bali.”

DAV79 replied,
“That’s your choice. But most important things first — let’s do the registration first. Then we decide location later.”

Dr. Giang immediately registered Hana.

Then something interesting happened.

One by one, the other parents also started registering.

No big announcement.
No big decision.
Just quiet action.

Dr. Giang smiled.

“I will still try to go to Bali,” she said.
“Give me one week to fix my schedule.”

Chapter 7 – The Children and the Leadership Scores

At the café, DAV79 gathered the children and gave them a task.

Each child had to answer three questions:

1. Who is a leader in your life?

2. How much will you score them?

3. Why would you give that score?

The children first chose their teachers and school leaders. They gave scores and explained why.

Then DAV79 changed the question.

“Now score your parents.”

The children were surprised. The parents were even more surprised.

The girls began giving scores and explaining honestly:

• “She doesn’t think of more ideas.”

• “She doesn’t always help.”

• “She gets angry.”

• “Sometimes she doesn’t listen.”

Then DAV79 introduced the three leadership traits:

• Servant Leader (kindness)

• Dream Builder (vision)

• Change Rider (strategy and influence)

As they evaluated using these traits, the scores started dropping.

The parents slowly joined the conversation.

Then DAV79 explained the real purpose.

This was reverse psychology.

“If the children evaluate the parents, then the parents now have the right to evaluate the children using the same system. And the children cannot reject the evaluation, because they used the system first.”

This created a two-way structured feedback system:

• Children evaluate parents

• Parents evaluate children

• Both use the same leadership framework

• Both must accept feedback

• Both adjust behavior

The parents were amazed.

This was not punishment.
This was not scolding.
This was structured self-realization.

Chapter 8 – The Recap

After everything ended, after the parents left, after the children stopped running, DAV79 and Cloudy sat down to talk.

This was the real meeting.

They discussed what they observed.

Dr. Giang had not just invited friends to hear about a program. She was testing the environment — seeing who understood, who was interested, who was ready, and how the children reacted.

Some parents thought it was a travel trip.
Some did not understand the long-term mindset development.
Some were cautious because of cost and uncertainty.
Some became interested after seeing how their children reacted.

Miss Ling understood but was not fully convinced yet.
Miss Nun was excited because she saw how her children reacted.
Lan was very interested because she understood the educational challenges.

They also discussed the biggest challenge — energy.

Some people can maintain their own energy.
But some people must maintain the energy of the entire ecosystem — motivate people, encourage people, challenge people, keep everyone moving forward.

That was the real work.

They also discussed logistics:

• If Dr. Giang goes to Bali, who organizes Hanoi?

• How to run hybrid?

• How to coordinate parents?

• How Bali and Hanoi will mirror each other?

Then they realized something important.

This meeting was not a presentation.
It was not recruitment.
It was not a sales talk.

It was a testing ground.
A playground.
An experiment.
An ecosystem in formation.

Dr. Giang had not just invited friends.

She had gathered an entire ecosystem in one room.

And that was where everything began.

DAV79:
“If you are working on a project, you cannot wait for someone to give you everything. You have to dive in, ask questions, and search for the information yourself.”

Participants were expected to read the materials, think independently, and return with questions. Vira then began asking questions about the program.

1. Question: Clarifying the Material

Vira:
“After the… about the flyer?”

She was confirming whether the discussion and questions should be based on the flyer and program materials.

DAV confirmed that the flyer was a starting point for discussion.

DAV79:
“Yes, about what we do, the flyer, anything.”

Ms. Z saw the flyer as a helpful orientation tool for participants before deeper discussions begin.

2. Question: Understanding the Phase

Vira:
“For now, we are on phase one, right?”

DAV confirmed the phase but challenged the quality of the question.

DAV79:
“If you ask me ‘Are we on phase one?’ — yes. But that is already explained. I don’t consider that a smart question.”

He explained that leadership questions should go deeper than confirming information.

He added light humor:

“You are street smart.”

Ms. Z focused on ensuring that the training schedule and phases remain clear so participants know where they are in the program.

DAV79:
“I would request you to read this article… If you click any of these pages it will take you to different articles.”

He then sets a challenge:

DAV79:
“Within the next 24 hours I want you to read as many and put your comments on those articles. Also ask questions please”

The key implication here is that the program is not limited to a single leadership idea. Participants are expected to:

• explore the different articles - its interactive and clickable to a very deep extend

• understand the broader themes

• engage with the entire module content

3. Question: Evaluation of Participants

Vira:
“How will the participants in this phase be evaluated?”

DAV explained that evaluation begins immediately and is continuous.

DAV79:
“You will be evaluated. I will be evaluated. Cloudy will be evaluated. Ms Zoura will be evaluated.”

Evaluation is based on:

• questions participants ask

• comments and reflections

• engagement in discussion

• alternative ideas participants suggest

In other words, thinking and participation become the evaluation system.

Ms. Z supported this process by helping organize quizzes and structured questioning sessions to guide participants.

4. Question: Consistency During the Self-Paced Phase

Vira:
“What challenges do participants typically face in maintaining consistency during the self-paced phase?”

DAV explained that modern learners often expect constant attention and quick feedback.

DAV79:
“Kids need attention and immediate feedback. If that is missing, they lose traction.”

He also noted two major challenges:

• low resilience

• weak articulation

The program therefore pushes participants to speak and articulate ideas under pressure.

“That is the start of leadership.”

Ms. Z added a broader observation.

Ms. Z:
“Children today feel more connected to their gadgets than to their parents.”

This shift in attention and communication habits makes consistency and engagement more difficult.

5. Question on Purpose of the Program

During the conversation, DAV79 redirected the discussion toward the deeper purpose of the initiative.

DAV79:
“Why do you think we are doing this program?”

Vira:
“To build future leaders.”

DAV79 explained that the world is entering a period of rapid change—technology disruption, global tensions, and generational gaps.

“The world will become messier. We cannot stop that. But we can learn how to navigate it.”

The goal of the program is therefore to prepare young people who can think, adapt, and lead in uncertain conditions.

Cloudy reinforced that the program is not only about learning concepts but about developing leadership thinking and responsibility.

Participants must understand why the program exists, not just what it teaches.

6. Question on Ideas and Participation

Another part of the discussion focused on participants contributing ideas and questions.

DAV79 encouraged participants to submit their questions and comments through discussions and forms.

Cloudy supported the idea that participants should actively generate questions and suggestions rather than passively receive information.

This approach encourages ownership of the learning process.

Pressure During the Session

At one point DAV79 checked how Vira was feeling.

DAV79:
“You feeling the pressure?”

Vira:
“A little bit…”

DAV79:
“Let me know when the pressure is unbearable and we take a pause.”

The pressure was intentional. It helps participants develop the ability to think and articulate ideas under scrutiny.

Toward the end of the discussion, DAV79 assigned Vira a preparation task for the upcoming Wednesday session. The task was designed to push her to move from passive understanding to active thinking.

DAV79 instructed Vira to come prepared with five ideas spanning over 15 minutes during the next session Wed 8:30 AM Singapore time. These ideas must meet two conditions:

1. They should not conflict with the existing agenda.

2. They should not repeat ideas that are already part of the program plan.

The intention behind this exercise was not simply to generate suggestions but to test how deeply she had understood the material.

To accomplish this, DAV emphasized that Vira must read extensively and explore the materials provided, including the linked articles and program information. By doing so, she would be able to identify gaps, opportunities, or improvements that could contribute meaningfully to the discussion.

Can she … will she. Questions for another day…..

In a breakout room, Jayden from Indonesia and ELF001 from Singapore were preparing for the upcoming EXPO session scheduled for Saturday night. The purpose of the breakout was to run a dry run of the hosting process. Jayden was being coached on how to structure the session: introducing the topic, explaining the theme, reviewing the agenda, and presenting the scoreboard from the previous session. The goal was to help him practice leading the discussion and managing participants before the actual EXPO.

Meanwhile, in Hanoi, Dav79 opened the main session with his camera on. Around the table were six students together with their parents, joining both physically and online. The group included students from different grades who were interested in leadership and the Global Citizen program.

Dav79 began by introducing the participants and starting a conversation with the students about what leadership means to them, setting the tone for the parent talk show and the broader discussion on youth leadership.

Opening and Introductions

DAV79 opened the session in Hanoi with several students and their parents seated around the table. The camera was switched on, and the setup was slightly lively and informal as people were still settling in. Jimmy, an 11-year-old Grade 6 student from Pascal School, sat beside his father.

Online, Zoura joined from Yogyakarta, Indonesia. DAV79 introduced her to the room and explained that she works with the Global Citizen program and that her daughter Gianni, also in Grade 6, is one of the ambassadors. DAV79 joked that if anyone wanted to see how active the program was, they only had to look at how much Gianni talks during discussions.

The session then moved quickly into the topic of the evening: leadership.

Jimmy – The Firm Leader

DAV79 began by asking Jimmy a simple question.

“What is leadership for you?”

Jimmy paused for a moment and said:

“Well… I think leadership is the ability to lead… like a group or something.”

DAV79 smiled and pushed a little further.

“Okay… but what does lead mean? Does it mean I tell you what to do? Does it mean I help you? Or does it mean I do things for you?”

Then DAV79 gave Jimmy a situation.

“Suppose I come to you and say: Jimmy, please do my homework for me. Would you do it?”

Jimmy immediately shook his head.

“Obviously not.”

“Why not?” DAV79 asked.

Jimmy replied calmly:

“Because if I do your homework, it only helps you escape the punishment from your teacher. It doesn’t help you learn.”

The room laughed lightly. DAV79 nodded.

“That’s a very interesting answer. So your idea of leadership is not helping people escape—but helping them learn.”

Zoura then asked Jimmy another question from Indonesia.

“Have you ever been a leader in your class?”

Jimmy answered honestly.

“Only when my group understands me. If people don’t understand me, they probably won’t think I’m a good leader.”

DAV79 chuckled.

“So you’re saying you can lead the people who understand you… but the rest might not follow?”

Jimmy nodded.

“Because they don’t understand the benefits I can give them.”

Bao – The Traveler

Shortly after, Bao joined online from Moc Chau. DAV79 invited him to introduce himself.

Bao apologized immediately.

“My camera is broken. Sorry.”

DAV79 laughed.

“That’s okay. At least your voice works.”

Bao explained he was 14 years old and in Grade 9. He had read the Global Citizen documents and was interested in becoming part of the program.

Zoura began asking him a few questions.

“What is your favorite subject in school?”

Bao replied without hesitation.

“English.”

“Why English?” she asked.

Bao answered simply:

“Because I want to travel around the world.”

Zoura followed up.

“Which country do you want to visit?”

Bao thought for a moment.

“Maybe… no specific one.”

That answer drew a few smiles. DAV79 joked that Bao clearly planned to visit all of them.

When asked whether he had already travelled abroad, Bao listed a few countries:

“England… Singapore… America.”

Zoura asked him what the difference was between those countries and Vietnam.

Bao paused again.

“Maybe… no difference.”

The room chuckled again. DAV79 commented that Bao might be the first student who traveled internationally and concluded that everything was basically the same.

Bao also explained that his friend Tung was beside him but could not speak because his microphone was broken.

Student Introductions – One by One

DAV79 then asked the students in the room to line up and introduce themselves one by one. The instructions were simple:

“Tell us your name, your school, your grade—and what leadership means to you.”

Jimmy went first.

“My name is Jimmy. I’m in Grade 6 at Pascal School… and leadership is the ability to lead.”

DAV79 reminded him of the homework example again.

“Would you do my homework for me?”

Jimmy answered again, confidently:

“No. Because I want everyone to learn instead of escaping.”

DAV79 laughed.

“Alright, let’s see how many points you get for that.”

Ben – The Organizer

Next came Ben.

“Hello everyone, my name is Ben. I’m in Grade 6.”

Ben explained that leadership meant organizing a team.

“A leader should understand the advantage of each member,” he said.
“And assign tasks based on what they are good at.”

DAV79 asked him:

“So the leader just tells people—you do this, you do that?”

Ben shook his head.

“Not exactly. The leader should understand people first.”

DAV79 nodded approvingly.

“Very nice. That’s a serious answer.”

Lemon – The Victory Leader

The next student introduced himself as Lemon.

“My name is Lemon. I’m in Grade 6.”

Lemon explained that leadership meant helping a group succeed.

“A leader helps people reach success… or victory.”

DAV79 found the word interesting.

“Victory, huh? So not just solving problems—but winning.”

Then DAV79 asked Lemon to name a leader in the world.

Lemon suggested Donald Trump.

DAV79 laughed slightly.

“Yes… he is a leader. But the question is—what kind of leader do you want?”

The room reacted with a mix of smiles and curiosity.

Mike – The Calm Guide

Another Grade 6 student introduced himself as Mike.

“I think leadership is guiding people to their goals.”

He added something DAV79 liked.

“A leader also needs to stay calm in difficult situations.”

DAV79 pointed out that calmness is often overlooked but extremely important in leadership.

“Banana” – The Empathatic Leader

The final student introduced himself with a playful nickname.

“My name is… Banana.”

The room burst into laughter.

DAV79 leaned forward.

“Who gave you the name Banana?”

The student replied casually:

“I just picked it randomly.”

DAV79 smiled.

“Well… that’s actually a pretty good name.”

Banana’s explanation of leadership surprised everyone.

“A leader should help the team win,” he said.
“But also make the team members feel good while working.”

DAV79 paused and highlighted that point.

“That’s very important. Most people talk about success… but not about how people feel.”

He explained that leaders who help people feel confident and safe create teams that are less afraid and more willing to act.

Transition to Parent Discussion

With the student introductions complete, DAV79 invited the parents to join the discussion. Some parents moved closer to the table while a teacher from a local School—who teaches chess—also joined.

DAV79 then gave the students three questions to work on:

1. What are the specific traits of a good leader?

2. Name three leaders in the world and describe their traits.

3. Decide whether you want to be a leader—and what kind of leader you want to be.

He told the students they could use the internet, AI tools, or any resources they wanted.

“But,” he added with a smile,
“you must submit your own answer. No copying.”

The session then began shifting toward a broader conversation with parents about leadership development and how children can learn these skills early.

Why We Need Leadership

We live in a messy and rapidly changing world. Children today face increasing pressures — distraction, social influence, and confusion about responsibility and values.

Leadership is not about giving orders. It is about thinking, guiding, and helping others learn. A true leader does not simply solve problems for others. Instead, a leader helps people understand and grow.

Leadership means helping others learn rather than escaping responsibility. For example, doing someone’s homework for them may help them avoid punishment, but it does not help them grow or gain knowledge. Real leadership encourages learning, responsibility, and integrity.

Because of these challenges, it is important to start developing leadership early — helping young people build empathy, accountability, and critical thinking.

DAV79 emphasised to the parents that the world children are growing up in today is far more complex and confusing than before. Their support is AI not the parents anymore. Information moves faster, expectations are unclear, and young people are constantly exposed to different influences from school, social media, and their peers. Because of this, many children struggle to understand responsibility, purpose, and how to make good decisions.

He emphasized that leadership is not about authority or telling others what to do. Leadership is the ability to think clearly, guide others, and help people grow. A leader should not solve every problem for someone. Instead, a leader helps others understand the situation and learn to solve it themselves.

To illustrate this idea, DAV79 returned to the example discussed earlier with Jimmy. If a friend asks you to do their homework, helping them might seem kind, but it actually prevents them from learning. Jimmy from Pascal School said - i want you to learn - what is the good if i do your homework. A true leader helps people become stronger, not more dependent. Leadership therefore means encouraging learning, responsibility, and integrity.

DAV79 then turned to the parents and asked them a simple question. He asked them how many of the following words they had heard from their own children at home or from teachers in school.

He listed a series of expressions that parents often hear today:

“I don’t care.”
“Why should I do it?”
“It’s not my problem.”
“That’s boring.”
“I don’t want to try.”
“It’s too difficult.”
“Someone else can do it.”
“It doesn’t matter.”

He pointed out that these small phrases reveal deeper issues: loss of motivation, lack of responsibility, declining empathy, and reduced resilience. When children begin to think this way, they avoid challenges instead of learning from them…and sometimes when they learn - we can too learn from them

DAV79 explained that leadership training helps counter this trend. When children learn leadership early, they begin to develop qualities such as:

• responsibility for their own actions

• empathy for others

• confidence to speak and think independently

• resilience when facing difficulty

• the ability to think critically rather than simply follow.

He told the parents that leadership is not only about preparing children to become CEOs or political leaders. It is about preparing them to become capable human beings who can think, care about others, and make responsible decisions in a complicated world.

So How do we sustain this?

For that reason, programs like the Global Citizen Club, the Expo sessions, and the leadership bootcamps aim to give young people real opportunities to practice leadership — through discussion, reflection, teamwork, and global exposure.

A. THE GLOBAL CITIZEN CLUB

DAV79 explained to the parents that the Global Citizen Club is a community initiative run by educators together with parents. It is not owned by a single institution, and it is not designed as a commercial program and perhaps not many find interest there because of that. Instead, it was created as a collaborative platform where families and educators who understand the problem that is facing us today - work together to develop leadership, responsibility, and global awareness among young people.

He shared that the club was born out of a growing concern among many educators. Around the world, many educational institutions had gradually become more focused on branding, rankings, and monetization, while the deeper purpose of education—developing thoughtful, responsible, and capable human beings—was slowly being neglected.

DAV79 explained that many parents and teachers began noticing that the traditional education system was slow to adapt to the changing world. Students were learning subjects and preparing for exams, but they were not always developing the mindset needed to navigate complexity, uncertainty, and global challenges. In many cases, the system appeared rigid and outdated, and in some places it was even showing signs of strain or decline in its ability to prepare students for the future.

The Global Citizen Club was therefore established to fill this gap. It was created as a learning environment where children could develop the qualities that conventional schooling often struggles to nurture—such as leadership, empathy, accountability, critical thinking, and the ability to engage with people from different cultures and perspectives.

Through discussions, challenges, presentations, and collaborative activities, students learn how to speak confidently, question ideas, reflect on their actions, and guide others.

He also explained that the club operates across multiple countries, allowing students from different places to interact with one another. This international exposure helps them see beyond their immediate environment and begin to think as members of a broader global community.

At the same time, DAV79 pointed out that some schools in Hanoi, Jogja and Bali have already recognized the importance of this shift. A number of forward-looking educators and institutions have chosen to take ownership of the Global Citizen Club and incorporate it into their own communities. Rather than waiting for slow systemic reforms, these schools are helping to spearhead what he described as a “leapfrog transformation” in education.

This transformation is not simply about adding new subjects or activities. It involves a fundamental change in mindset—from a system focused mainly on exams and performance to one that also cultivates awareness, character, leadership, and responsibility.

DAV79 explained that when schools, educators, and parents work together in this way, education can move faster and become more meaningful for students. The Global Citizen Club serves as a platform where this collaboration and several initiatives can happen and where young people can begin to practice leadership in real situations.

In essence, the purpose of the club is to help children grow into thoughtful, responsible, and globally aware individuals—people who are not only academically capable but also able to think independently, work with others, and contribute positively to society.

B. THE LEARNING SPACE - EXPO / ASAN

Meanwhile, in a breakout room, Jayden and ELF001 were running a dry run for the upcoming Global Citizen EXPO session scheduled for Saturday. The two students were practicing how to host the session—discussing what kinds of questions to ask, how to ask them effectively, and how to build a conversation so that other participants would feel comfortable contributing.

They walked through the flow of the session step by step: introducing the topic, guiding the discussion, and encouraging participants to reflect on their experiences and challenges.

At the same time, ELF001 was in the middle of preparing for her O-Level examinations in Singapore, a period that is typically very demanding for students. Despite the academic pressure, her guardians recognized the value of the Global Citizen program and allowed her to continue participating in some of the sessions.

ELF001 had also served as the Bootcamp Commander in the previous leadership bootcamp, where she helped coordinate activities and guide younger participants.

During the EXPO session, students like Jayden and ELF001 were expected to share what they had learned in school, talk about the challenges they had completed, and reflect on how those experiences helped them grow. The goal was not simply to present information, but to help other students learn from each other’s experiences and build confidence in speaking and leadership.

C. THE BOOTCAMPS

The team emphasized that the bootcamps are not tourism trips or travel programs. They are designed as intensive learning experiences where students are placed in situations that challenge their thinking, decision-making, and ability to work with others.

DAV79 explained to the parents that a bootcamp is meant to be immersive. Students are not just listening to lectures; they are participating in activities, discussions, simulations, and leadership challenges. Throughout the program, they are required to reflect on their actions, collaborate with others, and apply the ideas they have been discussing in the Global Citizen Club.

The purpose of the bootcamp is to create an environment where students can experience leadership, not simply learn about it. They are encouraged to speak, organize tasks, solve problems as a team, and understand different perspectives.

The team also explained that over the years the program has been structured so that each theme can run in two forms allowing maximum inclusivity at the lowest cost possible.

First, there will be an immersive version, where students gather in one location and participate fully in the bootcamp environment. These are the deeper experiences where participants spend several days together working through challenges and discussions.

Second, there will be several regional hybrid versions of the same theme. These allow students from different cities or countries to participate either in person locally or online while connecting with the main session. This approach allows more students to benefit from the experience without needing to travel far - keeping costs low and yet the learning complete.

In this way, each leadership theme—whether focused on awareness, critical thinking, or responsibility—can reach a wider community. The immersive bootcamp becomes the core experience, while the regional hybrid sessions help extend the learning to more students and communities.

The bootcamp is designed to be accessible but primarily run for the young Ambassadors. Much of the cost is shared or supported for participants, with the main requirement being the purchase of a Mindset Report (50 SGD), which helps participants reflect on their thinking patterns and leadership tendencies. Conclusion - THE MINDSET REPORT AND NEXT STEPS

All of these activities ultimately contribute to the Mindset Reports—a tool that educators and parents can use to better understand each child and shape how they support their development. The reports help guide engagement design and future learning strategies, allowing adults to tailor mentoring, discussions, and educational pathways based on the student’s evolving mindset.

The report itself is generated through a complex system of feedback and signals gathered over time. These inputs come from multiple sources: the student’s own participation and engagement, reflections and perspectives shared by peers, and observable behavioral traits during discussions, challenges, and leadership activities.

Together, these layers create a dynamic picture of how a young person thinks, responds, and grows—helping educators and parents move beyond grades to better understand the mindset patterns that shape learning, leadership, and decision-making.

Meanwhile Chilli – The Connector from Bac Ninh

Chilli, an Ambassdor joining online from Bac Ninh, also participated in the discussion. She shared that she had been reading some of the program materials and trying to access the platform but was unable to complete the final step because she did not yet have a TapTap card.

DAV79 explained that this was normal and that the card would be arranged once she had submitted feedback through some of the program activities. The team would help organize one for her.

The discussion then moved to a more practical topic—bringing more students and families into the program.

DAV79 asked Chilli if she could speak with her parents and community about two things: inviting more students to join the Bali Bootcamp scheduled for April 10–12, and helping the team organize the next bootcamp planned for June, possibly in Moc Chau or another location.

Chilli responded positively. She explained that her family and community in Bac Ninh had a fairly large network of acquaintances, and it would likely be possible to bring five to seven additional students into the program.

However, she also pointed out an important issue. The parents in her community were generally supportive, but they needed a clearer explanation of the program before committing. She explained that when she tried to describe the program herself, the details were sometimes difficult to convey clearly.

Chilli also mentioned that March is one of the busiest months of the year for many families, which is why she had not invited more people to join the call that evening.

She suggested that it would help if someone from the team—Cloudy or Lin91—could speak directly with her parents - given they speak Vietnamese.

“When I explain it,” she said honestly, “they are still a bit unsure about what the program is.”

She also shared that her mother had attempted to join the Zoom session but arrived late and could not hear some parts clearly because the audio was unstable. As a result, her mother missed much of the discussion.

DAV79 agreed that a direct conversation would be helpful. They discussed arranging a meeting with Chilli’s parents in Bac Ninh. Since DAV79 would be returning to Singapore on March 26, the meeting would need to happen the following week.

Chilli suggested Friday afternoon - Mar 20 , explaining that the weekend would not work because she had competitions in Hanoi.

DAV79 agreed and asked her to send the address so the team could plan a visit. He also confirmed that Cloudy would call her parents on Monday to arrange the meeting.

The exchange showed how students like Chilli were not only participants in the program but also active connectors—helping bring families and communities into the Global Citizen network.

For educators who truly want to take the lead in shaping the next generation, there are four simple ways to begin contributing:

2. Encourage more students to participate in the Thursday and Saturday sessions, where discussions, challenges, and leadership practice take place.

This capability—lets wait to name it —is not about constant motion. It is about intelligent motion. Not change for novelty’s sake, but correction before cost compounds.

Three simple ideas. Yet together, they form a powerful operating philosophy for navigating a messy world.

Because the world is messy. 2027 will be more messier than ever and so on.

We have always loved structure. We crave order. But structure without randomness is an illusion—and over-structuring a living system is often a slow death simply because thats not the evolutionary limit. Frameworks attempt to capture this tension. One of the most widely cited is VUCA: Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous. C66 reminded the team of Variations like TUNA or RUNA attempt to reinterpret the turbulence in their own ways.

At Team FD, we made a deliberate shift.

We replaced Uncertainty with Unknown.

The acronym remains VUCA - But its meaning deepens.

Uncertainty suggests something measurable. Variables exist; information is incomplete. With enough analysis, you can reduce it.

The Unknown is different. It is not incomplete data. It is emergent reality. It cannot be solved by better forecasting. It must be entered.

And we fear it.

This shift transforms the leadership requirement. The challenge is no longer superior prediction. It is superior posture.

And posture begins with detachment.

Consider the executive who launches a promising initiative. The strategy is clear. The team is aligned. Capital has been committed. Early signals are encouraging. Then momentum slows. Adoption weakens. Forecasts soften.

The numbers alone are not the real test. The psychology is.

Without Personal Strategic Agility, leaders escalate commitment. More funding. Extended timelines. Reframed metrics. What began as conviction slowly becomes defense. Attachment to being right overrides responsiveness to reality. The wrong train accelerates.

With Personal Strategic Agility, the response shifts. Identity is separated from initiative. Sunk costs are acknowledged but not defended. The initiative is closed before erosion deepens. Resources are redirected while leverage still exists. Learning is institutionalized rather than buried.

Let go. But do not give up on the mission.

The discomfort of early correction prevents the exponential cost of delayed admission.

This same pattern unfolds in individual careers.

A high-performing professional may hold a prestigious role in a respected institution. Compensation is strong. Status is visible. From the outside, success appears complete. Internally, misalignment grows—values drifting, energy depleting, growth plateauing.

Many remain. Not because they lack talent, but because they fear stepping into the Unknown. The next chapter is not clearly mapped. The next identity is not guaranteed.

Prestige becomes a polished cage.

Without Personal Strategic Agility, disengagement expands quietly. Creativity contracts. Burnout accumulates. The longer one stays, the more expensive the return.

With it, honest assessment replaces denial. Attachment to image is released. The transition is intentional—skills strengthened, networks activated, timing calculated. The exit is not impulsive; it is deliberate.

The Unknown is entered with composure.

What initially feels unstable becomes expansive. Alignment restores vitality. The leap was not reckless—it was necessary.

At the organizational level, the stakes are even higher.

Established firms facing technological disruption often cling to legacy systems that remain profitable yet visibly declining. Traditional responses focus on managing uncertainty—more data, more incremental improvement, more cautious adjustment.

But when the true challenge is the Unknown, incremental refinement of the current model is insufficient. The future competitive landscape may not resemble the present at all.

Without Personal Strategic Agility, organizations defend identity. Transformation is delayed until external forces dictate terms. By the time action is taken, leverage is gone.

With it, leaders acknowledge reality early. Profitable but declining segments are sunset strategically rather than emotionally. Capital is redeployed before relevance erodes. Teams are reskilled before obsolescence hardens.

The difference is timing.

Across executive decisions, career realignments, and organizational reinventions, the same pattern emerges:

Release attachment. Correct direction early.
Move forward without requiring complete visibility.

This is not impulsivity. It is disciplined discernment. It is the ability to distinguish perseverance from misalignment.

The year was 331 BCE. The plains near Gaugamela had been engineered for domination. The ground was flattened deliberately; stones were cleared so scythed chariots could surge forward without obstruction. It was not merely a battlefield—it was a stage prepared for overwhelming force.

Across that vast expanse stood the army of Darius III, ruler of an empire that stretched from the Mediterranean to the edges of India. His formation extended beyond the eye’s comfortable range. Cavalry massed heavily along both wings, positioned to envelop. Infantry stood layered deep at the center, shields tight, spears upright, disciplined in appearance if not always unified in origin. War chariots waited between divisions, their blades meant to slice through flesh and formation alike.

At the heart of this spectacle stood Darius himself. Elevated in his chariot, richly armored, visible to thousands, he represented stability. His position was symbolic architecture. As long as he stood firm, the army possessed a psychological axis.

Across the plain stood a smaller Macedonian force. By sheer arithmetic, the comparison appeared absurd. Fewer men. Fewer resources. Less room for error. The Persians had scale. They had spectacle. They had terrain designed for their advantage.

The clash began with violence that shook the air—hooves striking earth, shields colliding, metal tearing against metal. Dust rose in thick waves, distorting depth and distance. Noise became physical. The battlefield narrowed into fragments of perception.

Then something subtle shifted.

A concentrated thrust pressed toward the Persian center. It was not the loudest movement on the field, nor the broadest. It was precise. Focused. Fast. What had been carefully arranged geometry tightened into proximity. The king who stood as symbol of inevitability now found the danger advancing toward him.

Moments like this stretch time. Calculations compress. Adrenaline overtakes abstraction.

Darius panicked.

Whether the decision began as instinct or calculation hardly mattered. He turned his chariot and withdrew from the center.

The retreat itself was brief. But its meaning rippled outward instantly.

Armies do not collapse solely from casualties. They collapse from perception. When soldiers saw their king retreat, the interpretation was immediate: the center is failing. The anchor is moving. The unspoken question moved faster than any command—If the king leaves, what holds?

Units that had stood firm seconds earlier hesitated. Hesitation spread. The immense formation that had seemed unbreakable began to fragment—not because it lacked numbers, but because it lost emotional gravity.

The battlefield did not transform physically. The ground remained flat. The weapons remained sharp. The numbers remained vast.

What changed was the internal state at the center.

And when the center fractures psychologically, scale becomes irrelevant.

Part II — Fear and Its Management in Modern Leadership

Fear has not vanished from leadership. It has modernized.

Today it does not arrive in chariots. It arrives in collapsing markets, viral outrage, sudden competition, political instability, technological disruption, global uncertainty. It arrives in boardrooms when quarterly projections fall short. It arrives in public offices when crises erupt overnight. It arrives in organizations facing rapid transformation.

Fear is biological. It sharpens awareness. It signals threat. In small doses, it enhances focus.

But unmanaged fear destabilizes systems.

When leaders react impulsively—announcing sweeping changes without reflection, assigning blame publicly, overcorrecting strategy in response to temporary pressure—they transmit instability. Teams are exquisitely sensitive to micro-signals: a tightened voice, abrupt messaging, erratic pivots in direction, visible agitation during questioning.

Anxiety cascades downward.

Unmanaged fear produces predictable patterns:

Overreaction.
Drastic measures taken too quickly. Decisions made to relieve emotional discomfort rather than solve structural problems.

Withdrawal.
Silence replaces clarity. Leaders disappear behind layers of communication. Uncertainty grows in the vacuum.

Confusion.
Mixed messages. Shifting priorities. Teams unsure which direction holds.

The damage is rarely immediate and explosive. It is cumulative. Trust thins. Cohesion loosens. Focus scatters.

Managed fear, however, looks different.

It begins with awareness. A leader notices the surge of adrenaline without being driven by it. Breath slows before speech begins. Language becomes deliberate. Reaction pauses long enough for interpretation.

Managed fear asks disciplined questions:

• What is fact, and what is projection?

• What part of this situation is structural, and what part is temporary?

• Where is the true leverage point?

• What action stabilizes rather than dramatizes?

Emotional regulation is not suppression. It is containment. It allows fear to inform awareness without hijacking decision-making. Leaders who acknowledge risk honestly—without amplifying it—create psychological steadiness. They neither minimize nor sensationalize. They orient.

Strategic thinking cannot operate inside panic. When cortisol floods cognition, complexity narrows into fight-or-flight reflexes. Nuance disappears. Perspective collapses into urgency.

But when fear is metabolized—noticed, steadied, integrated—clarity expands. Leaders can zoom out. Patterns emerge. Solutions become proportionate rather than reactive.

Modern organizations mirror ancient armies in one essential way: the emotional state at the center determines the cohesion at the edges.

When the center panics, fragmentation accelerates.
When the center steadies, alignment strengthens.

In volatile times, employees do not demand perfection. They look for stability. They look for leaders who can hold ambiguity without transmitting alarm.

The battlefield may be digital. The nervous systems are not.

Part III — The Energy That Holds

Crowds do not generate steadiness autonomously.

They search for it.

In moments of uncertainty, people instinctively scan for cues—posture, tone, pacing, decisiveness, restraint. They interpret what is unsaid as carefully as what is spoken. They read emotional temperature faster than formal messaging.

When fear overtakes the center, fragmentation follows. People begin protecting themselves individually. Cooperation shrinks. Risk tolerance collapses. Alignment dissolves into self-preservation.

When composure holds, something different happens. Energy organizes. Focus sharpens. Individuals move in rhythm because they sense stability at the axis.

Energy within a group is not created by intensity alone. Intensity without grounding produces volatility. Energy grows from stability under intensity. It forms when direction remains clear despite turbulence. It deepens when decisions are measured rather than reactive.

History repeatedly demonstrates the same pattern: collapse begins internally before it becomes externally visible. Confidence erodes quietly before structures fall. Conversely, strength consolidates internally before momentum becomes undeniable.

The decisive moments are often invisible at first. They occur in private decisions—to pause instead of react, to speak calmly instead of urgently, to interpret rather than assume.
