1. Former teacher inspo

I always recommend following former teachers who are following their passion. I recently came across the clothing company founded by Kaitlin Johnstone, a former Kindergarten teacher, and her husband. Their company donates a book to a child with every purchase. Absolutely love this concept!

2. It’s never too early for pumpkin spice

I immediately saved this recipe when it popped up on my Instagram. 10/10, no notes!!

3. A quick way to earn a little extra

The contract roles I share each week in the teacher transition job boards are usually a couple of months worth of work. If you want to make a little extra but don’t want to commit to a project of that length, Hey There Insights might be worth exploring.

Essentially, the projects feature EdTech companies looking for teacher input on curriculum and other educational products. The current projects they have listed are between 30-60 minutes of work. I’ve completed a few projects for them and had a great experience. Happy to chat if you have questions!

4. A Substack post that stuck with me this month

I found myself nodding along to Kady’s post about leaving education. I recommend giving it a read. For me, it was a reminder that I’m not alone in alll the feelings that came with walking away and making a pivot.

I feel like I blinked and he is almost three months old. We’ve been soaking up allll the snuggles. He is the most precious little boy and I feel so grateful to be able to stay home with him.

Based on how I’ve been feeling and my most recent appointments, I’ve decided it’s time to update you all and share next steps for my maternity leave.

Here’s the plan:

• There will be no free post this week. Many of last week’s job postings are still live so check out that post below if you missed it!

• The last Exit Ticket job board will go out on Thursday, 4/30/26 for paid subscribers.

• If you’re a paid subscriber, your membership is now paused. You will not be charged while I’m on leave for the next 3 months.

• Paid memberships will be “unpaused” and resume starting on 7/27/26. This date may shift slightly based on how baby and I are doing 🩵. However, you will be notified in advance if this date changes.

• If you paid for a yearly membership, once payments resume, your paid subscription will pick up where it left off (meaning you will still get a year’s worth of content).

March was a busy month in the Etter household. I had my baby shower, spent time with family from out of town, and worked on some exciting client projects.

I’m now at the point in my pregnancy where I have a doctor’s appointment each week. I know I’m going to need show/book recommendations to get me through the end of the third trimester. Let me know what you’ve been loving lately in the comments!

1. An app I’m revisiting

When I was dealing with burnout as a teacher, yoga and meditation were lifesavers. I used Insight Timer, a free app with thousands of guided meditations focused on coping with stress, anxiety, grief, etc.

I recently remembered how much the app helped me sleep. If I wake up in the night (which happens quite often lately 😅), my go-to is Yoga Nidra for Sleep by Jennifer Piercy. Figured I’d share for anyone looking for a free tool to cope with stress and burnout.

2. My favorite copywriting book

I know there are several people in this community who are interested in pivoting to marketing and copywriting. I recommend starting with some books on the subject. One of my favorites is Very Good Copy by Eddie Shleyner.

The book is written in short vignettes where Shleyner uses his life experiences to share lessons on copywriting. I find myself going back to it for inspiration time and time again. Shleyner is also a great person to follow on LinkedIn for copywriting tips.

3. Show I’m Hooked On

Need a new show? It’s rare for my husband and I to find a show we both love. This month, we got super into The Pitt starring Noah Wyle on HBO Max.

The series is set in a Pittsburgh ER, dubbed “the pitt,” and follows the frontline workers as they deal with complex cases while juggling their own personal struggles. It’s incredibly well done, and I look forward to the new episode every Thursday.

Like most people, I have a love-hate relationship with my phone. As a ‘90s kid, I’ve always been a bit nostalgic about having a house phone.

When I saw Emily’s note, it got me thinking about how this small act of “hanging up” the phone could signal a wind-down for the day. I think I might need to try this for April!
