Some recent events:

Q.ai has worked on Al that can understand whispered speech, but its patents go much further. They describe systems that track tiny movements in facial skin to work out words a person is silently articulating, without them making a sound.

The same patents describe using those facial movements to identify a person and estimate signals such as emotional state, heart rate and breathing rate. One filing even describes turning silent speech straight into text or spoken audio.

There is another interesting link. Q.ai founder Aviad Maizels also founded PrimeSense, which Apple bought in 2013. Its 3D sensing work later helped form the tech behind Face ID. Now Maizels and Q.ai’s team are joining Apple too.

Apple has not said where Q.ai’s tech will end up. Its patents describe uses in wearables, earphones and phones, which makes products such as AirPods and future glasses obvious areas to watch, though those uses remain unconfirmed.

There was a time when Grandma's garden could produce foods that many people today have never tasted. Some heirloom plants were prized for their unusual sweetness, distinctive flavors, reliable harvests, and ability to thrive without the constant stream of modern garden products we see today.

🌱 A Flavor From Another Generation

The most fascinating part of America's gardening history isn't always the biggest harvest. Sometimes it's the flavors that disappeared.

Generations ago, gardeners saved seeds, shared plants with neighbors, and passed favorite varieties from one family to another. Over time, many of those varieties faded from everyday gardens as supermarkets, commercial agriculture, and standardized produce changed what people planted and ate.

That leaves us with an intriguing question:

Why did something Grandma once loved growing simply disappear?

Today, interest in heirloom gardening, rare vegetables, forgotten fruits, heritage plants, seed saving, and traditional American gardening is bringing many old varieties back into conversation.

For gardeners who appreciate unusual flavors and the history behind the food they grow, these forgotten plants offer more than nostalgia. They represent a time when a garden was closely connected to the kitchen, the family table, and the seasons.

SUMMARY
1. Good King Henry (poor mans asparagus)
2. Old corn cultivars such as bloody butcher and reads yellow dent (because they come back every year). Any open pollinated cultivar will work.
3. Cow peas. Brings nitrogen into the soil. Works as a fertiliser. (Like most legumes).
4. Turkey Red Wheat.
5. Walking onion. Never have to replant. Hardy from zone 3 to zone 9.
5. Sweet sorghum. (Sugar syrup alternative). Still made in Tennessee
6. Mascadones. Type of grape. Hardy.
7. Rhubarb. Rhubarb corm lives 20 years. (The leaves are toxic. Eat the stalks).
8. Salsify. The oyster plant. Root vegetable.
9. Sunchokes. Hardy Root vegetable. Perrenial tuber.
10. Horseradish. Plant once, own it forever. Thumb sized peices of root left in the ground will grow back.
11. Asparagus. A corm can live 15-30 years. Don't harvest for the first 2 years.
12. Beams - old cultivars: cherokee, trail of tears, wild goose, turkey craw, rattlesnake.
13. Sugar from trees other than maple. Tap trees such as: Box elder, black walnut and river birch.
14. Pawpaw.
15. Fig. Easily propogated by cuttings.
16. Comfrey. Brings nitrogen up to the soil (as long as you cut the leaves and return them to the soil).
17. Grow all your own herbs.
18. Potatoes. (Kenebec ? Cultivar)
19. Skirret. 'Sugar root'. Root vegetable. Tastes like honey and apple.
I'm going to say some of these will have fallen by the wayside because other cultivars are better. Why grow an average grape if you can grow a delicious one. However, alot of these recommended plants will grow in poorer soil, live longer, provide more easily. They will self propogate or are perrenial while newer cultivars have to be bought year after year.
Unlike alot of newer cultivars that are sterile (wont reproduce), use open pollinated seeds and save and share your seeds.
They are definitely worth growing and sharing and keeping them available to more people.
