Cornwall looks deceptively manageable on a map. A village here, another seaside town there, a castle, a pub, perhaps an antiques shop along the way. In reality, many of those places are thirty minutes to an hour (or, more) from one another, and after a few days, you realize just how much of your holiday you’re spending in the car.

Looking back, the moments I loved most weren’t necessarily the ones I’d planned. They were breakfast outside in the countryside, walking down to the sea, an exceptionally good dinner celebrating a milestone birthday… and watching what appeared to be the entire canine population of England descend upon Harlyn Bay.

If you’ve been following our renovation of our 150-year-old Savannah home over on Instagram, you’ll know that paint has played one of the biggest roles in transforming its spaces.

I’ve always believed paint is one of the most impactful (and most affordable) ways to completely change the feeling of a room. The right color can make a space feel warmer, lighter, moodier, more historic, or simply more like home without moving a single piece of furniture.

Below, I’m sharing the colors we’ve used throughout our home so far and why they work in each space. I hope it gives you a little inspiration for your own home and maybe the confidence to try something unexpected.

Like any old house, Blue Door is still evolving. I hope these photos not only help you see each color in context, but also awaken a little anticipation for what these rooms will become once everything is finally in its place.
