Earlier today, CBS News, which has been corrupted by the Ellisons and self-described “Zionist fantastic” Bari Weiss, put out an all-timer tweet. Just read it for yourselves. Yup, that’s HELLA racist. But that’s the new norm now. You gotta pull out all the tricks to stop Mamdani, El-Sayed, and any emerging progressive candidate to the left of Hakeem Jeffries.

Corporate media writers like Jonathan Chait of The Atlantic are now admitting what some Democratic mouthpieces, donors, and even Senator Schumer have been hinting for the past two weeks. They are fine with Democrats losing Michigan, which also risks them losing the Senate. Why? They have to put El-Sayed and what he represents in their place, which is in the gutter.

Meanwhile, Trump Advisor Laura Loomer continues going HAM against Muslims and now Angie Nixon, a Black woman who is fighting to represent the great state of Florida in the Senate. Finally, a few Democrats have condemned her, including Hakeem Jeffries, who took questions from the press and still couldn’t properly explain why he met with Jared Kushner.

All this for establishment politics that have failed the American people. All this because they all get paid from the same donors. All this for Israel, whose brutal occupation of Palestinians is so barbaric that now former Israeli generals are openly condemning it in the pages of the New York Times.

Last week, I returned home to the Bay Area to discuss how techno-fascist billionaires from Silicon Valley have used their enormous wealth to promote a global eugenics agenda.

I hosted Gil Duran, journalist and best-selling author of the newly released The Nerd Reich, at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco in front of a very pissed-off audience that wants accountability for these racist freaks who are profiting off the collapse of the post-WW2 order.

Duran, a frequent guest on The Left Hook, has spent the past few years warning Americans about the rise of this techno-fascist class that has groomed the VP of the United States, stolen our data, taken billions from the government, and colluded with some of the world’s worst people on Earth.

Trump is their vehicle of destruction, but they have a more ambitious agenda. They want to undo democracy and replace it with a global feudal system in which they reign supreme. They refuse to invest in a majority of humans and instead believe the Earth is, literally, cooked. Americans will routinely give up their freedoms for the illusory feeling of safety. Some will give up their own democracy just to temporarily feel “great again.”

After the 9-11 terror attacks, America lost its mind.

Nineteen foreign hijackers brought down the two towers and killed nearly 3,000 people. In response, the Bush Administration unleashed the never-ending “War on Terror” against the evil-doers and terrorists. This resulted in more than 4 million total deaths, with Afghanistan and Iraq bearing the brunt of the pain and trauma.

At home, both Republicans and Democrats supported the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and ICE. They also celebrated the Patriot Act, which normalized and accelerated surveillance against Americans. All of this was welcomed with open arms because they were going to crush the “enemy,” which became synonymous with Muslims.

If you think this is hyperbole, recall how some pro-Clinton Democrats during the 2008 primary painted Barack Obama as “foreign” and said they’ll take him at his word that he wasn’t Muslim. The religious identity of 1.7 billion people was used to smear the first Black president - who isn’t Muslim. The racist who promoted the birther conspiracy later became the President of the United States after championing a “Muslim Ban.”

Now, Americans are rising up against mass surveillance and ICE agents terrorizing neighborhoods and killing white citizens. The technobros are making billions investing in the military-industrial complex and helping brutal dictators around the world suppress critics and minority communities. Islamophobia helped fuel this global repression, and it was accepted because the bad guy was the scary Muslim. We’re seeing the same pattern play out with the rise of Zohran Mamdani and Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan. Some spots never change.

In her new book, Seasons of Fury, NYT contributing writer Rozina Ali (no relation) spent the past few years documenting the deliberate manufacturing and implementation of anti-Muslim fearmongering as an essential component of the U.S. surveillance state. It goes back to the 60s but was supercharged after the 9-11 attacks. As she tells The Left Hook, the “War on Terror” has officially come home.

• When asked to end human enslavement, the nation tore itself apart in a bloody Civil War.

• When forced to desegregate public accommodations, municipalities opted to drain community swimming pools and close public parks rather than share them across racial lines.

• When given choices between qualified, competent leadership or returning to reactionary populism, the electorate repeatedly traded stability for white grievance.

The tragedy of this dynamic is that systemic inequality rarely confines its damage to its intended targets. The white working-class families losing access to rural healthcare, the farmers watching their export markets evaporate in arbitrary trade wars, and the retirees forced back into the gig economy are experiencing the collateral damage of a political ideology that prioritizes hierarchy over survival.

As legal scholar Heather McGhee notes in The Sum of Us, when you drain the pool, everybody gets dry.

The Climate Reality and the Economics of Cruelty

While domestic institutions erode, the global consequences of unchecked corporate extraction are mounting. The human toll of the climate crisis is no longer a distant projection—it is an active catastrophe.

2. Regulatory Breakdown: Protections governing public health, food safety, and environmental standards are systematically gutted to maximize short-term extractive wealth.

3. Institutional Abandonment: As safety nets like Medicaid and Medicare face draconian cuts, public infrastructure is privatized or left to rot.

Instead of deploying vast economic resources to build resilient energy grids, fund universal healthcare, or fortify public infrastructure, wealth is channeled into private enclaves, space-faring escape fantasies, and luxury defense bunkers. It is a eugenics project masquerading as free-market capitalism.

Geopolitical Depletion and the Illusion of Invulnerability

Internationally, the myth of American hyper-dominance is encountering harsh operational realities. Entangled in protracted conflicts across the Middle East and engaging in reckless trade tariffs with longstanding allies, the nation’s strategic readiness is visibly fraying.

Remember the Iran War?

It’s been about six months since the United States and Israel decided to illegally and unilaterally invade Iran and kill the Ayatollah based on lies.

I’m going to see how many crises I can list off the top of my head that are damaging to Donald Trump.

Let’s go.

Earlier today, Donald Trump decided to rename Lake Ontario as Lake America. This is part of his escalating, nonsensical, self-destructive trade war with neighbor and ally Canada. Howard Lutnick, his Secretary of Commerce and fellow Epstein enthusiast, argued for demolishing the Kennedy Center unless Trump is allowed to put his name on the historic building.

Due to the illegal and failed war in Iran, the United States might face a food shortage in 2027 and is already reeling from higher gas prices. Now, The Washington Post is reporting that Putin, an enemy of America, has said this disastrous war has hurt and weakened America.

But America doesn’t need enemies to destroy itself, because we have the MAGA movement that has dismantled our FDA and CDC. Measles is now great again, vaccine hesitancy is on the rise, and there’s a parasite causing explosive diarrhea that has already killed seven people. There are major food recalls due to salmonella and contamination.

But what about anti-semitism?!? Yes, it’s springtime for Nazis and white supremacists. A former staffer for GOP candidate Mike Collins posted Nazi and KKK images, because of course. The Democratic leadership and its corporate base have declared war on anyone to the left of Haley Stevens and Hakeem Jeffries. It just so happens that group represents the majority of the Democratic Party based on all the available data.

Democratic voters don’t want AI data centers, corporate money in politics, secret meetings with Jared Kushner, AIPAC buying off politicians, or unlimited funds fueling forever wars. They want fighters, not collaborators. They want people who take on the oligarchy instead of accepting their checks ahead of midterms. Randy Fine. Oh, to help “the people,” he also privately met with Jared Kushner to discuss, like, “affordability” and stuff. This week, Democrats decided to place hard-right, pro-Israel war hawk Rep. Moskowitz on the House Foreign Affairs subcommittee on the Middle East.

Can a progressive, first-time candidate who is the daughter of Muslim, South Asian immigrants defeat the Democratic Establishment candidate in the state of New Hampshire?

Kairshma Manzur is about to find out. If elected, she will be the first female PhD scientist to ever serve in the U.S. Senate. But first she will have to defeat Rep. Chris Pappas, who is currently leading her in the polls and has the backing and financial support of AIPAC.

Take a deep breath.

What we are witnessing in American politics right now is not a series of isolated political gaffes or unfortunate misunderstandings. It is a coordinated, deliberate shift. We are in the middle of a marathon, watching an all-out blitzkrieg orchestrated by political elites against anyone who dares to exist even a fraction to the left of the corporate establishment—which, ironically, represents the vast majority of working Americans.

For years, progressive voices warning about this trajectory were dismissed. Skeptics looked at marginalized commentators and wrote off their critiques as overly radical, too reactionary, or out of touch. But power reveals itself through pattern, and the pattern is now undeniable. Trust the evidence of your own eyes and ears: the Democratic establishment is not failing to resist the slide into corporate authoritarianism—it is actively facilitating it.

The Anatomy of a Coordinated Distraction

Consider the events of a single week. While inflation continues to erode wages, housing costs skyrocket, and global conflicts threaten to expand into unwinnable regional wars, where did the Democratic leadership focus its immense institutional power?

Not on holding corporate monopolies accountable. Not on addressing food safety outbreaks, rolling back state-level attacks on civil liberties, or countering far-right voter suppression.

Instead, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries went on national television to attack Medicare for All and dismiss Democratic Socialists. Shortly after a private, backroom meeting with Jared Kushner—a meeting left completely unexplained to the public—a lockstep blitz was launched. Leading Democratic figures, alongside conservative media outlets like Fox News, synchronized their talking points. Their target wasn’t Donald Trump, far-right extremists leading hate rallies, or the defense contractors profiting off international escalation.

Their primary target was a Twitch streamer.

When a political establishment facing an approval crisis concentrates its outrage on an online commentator rather than the structural crises destroying everyday lives, it reveals its true priorities. Hassan Piker didn’t raise your gas prices. He didn’t inflate the price of groceries, gut environmental protections, or allocate billions in taxpayer dollars to foreign conflicts while domestic infrastructure crumbles. The obsession with neutralizing independent media figures isn’t about policy—it’s about control.

The Myth of Proximity to Power

The fundamental lie sold to the electorate for the past three decades is that securing a seat at the table with the establishment eventually yields progress. We are routinely told to “vote blue no matter who,” under the promise that representation and proximity to power will translate into material relief for working-class communities.

But proximity to power without accountability isn’t power—it’s complicity.

When party leaders celebrate symbolic representation while quietly appointing hawkish, anti-progressive figures to crucial foreign policy subcommittees, the symbolism becomes an insult. Appointing figures who align more closely with far-right war hawks than their own voting base isn’t an accident. It is a clear message to voters: Your movements will be harnessed for campaign donations and door-knocking, but your values will be discarded the moment legislative decisions are made.

Established Political Dynamic:

This dynamic isn’t a glitch; it is the operating system. The establishment counts on the public not paying attention to how governance actually works. They rely on the assumption that fear of the opposition will forever blind voters to the betrayals within their own ranks.

The Uniparty and the Samson Option

What we are witnessing is the convergence of a uniparty—a political structure where two seemingly opposed factions serve the exact same financial masters. Whether it is real estate interests, defense contractors, or the corporate lobbies pouring record-breaking tens of millions of dollars into primary races to crush progressive candidates, the outcome remains constant.

When an entrenched political system feels its grip slipping—when poll after poll shows that the majority of Americans oppose endless foreign wars, demand universal healthcare, and reject corporate deregulation—it does not adapt. It reacts.

This is the political equivalent of the “Samson option”: an attempt to pull down the pillars of democratic engagement rather than cede control to a new, progressive majority. If forced to choose between sharing power with a vibrant, human-centered democracy or preserving the wealth of a corporate oligarchy, the establishment routinely chooses the oligarchy. They would rather manage a collapsing system that enriches their donors than govern a equitable one that empowers their constituents.

Moving Beyond Symbolism

The era of accepting empty platitudes and performance art in place of structural change must come to an end. A politician wearing the right hat or dropping the right cultural references while voting to fund endless warfare and gut social safety nets is not an ally.

The differences between the two dominant political apparatuses are increasingly reduced to a dynamic of style rather than substance. One side openly dismantles democratic norms, while the other sits idly by, sending out fundraising emails and lecturing its voters on pragmatism while enabling the exact same economic policies.

It is time to take off the rose-colored glasses. The leadership of the Democratic establishment will not save you. They have had the power, the time, and the majorities to deliver on climate change, labor rights, and healthcare reform, and at every turn, they have chosen to protect the status quo.

You do not have representatives in the traditional sense; you have managers tasked with keeping the public quiet while the wealth of the country is extracted. Until working people stop offering unconditional loyalty to a party that views them with contempt, the cycle will continue. Wake up, look at the receipts, and stop settling for the illusion of choice.

Why are they all tweeting nearly the same message and promoting a right-wing talking point that only hurts Abdul El-Sayed, who is barely leading in Michigan?

Why did House Democrats’ most pro-Israel hawks, who are completely removed from the majority of Democratic voters, get powerful posts on the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Tuesday?

Why do Democrats continue taking money from AIPAC, which is now the top outside spender in 2026, despite the organization’s commitment to raise millions from pro-Trump billionaires against Democrats?

An IPSOS poll revealed that only 13% of Americans strongly approve of Donald Trump’s performance. His overall approval is at 33%, the lowest of any President ahead of the midterms. This means he’s losing even core MAGA supporters in addition to first-time voters and Independents.

He’s negative double digits on the economy, which will get worse as a result of his continued, failed war in Iran and his latest, self-destructive spat with neighbor, ally, and trading partner Canada, which isn’t flinching or backing down. Speaking of the economy, JP Morgan warns that America will have a food shortage in 2027 and gas prices will remain high even if the war were to end. While this is happening, Trump and the broligarchs continue making insane profits thanks to Crypto, insider trading, and investment in the military-industrial complex.

ICE continues killing and torturing people and just recorded 50,000 arrests, the highest number ever, in July. Meanwhile, Trump is disparaging our allies, including South Korea and Oman, but finding time to praise North Korea and sending the Director of National Intelligence Ratcliffe to Russia for a secret meeting with Putin.

Nothing to see here, folks! Totally fine!

Oh, and Trump is continuing his attack on our upcoming midterm elections and attempting to suppress votes.

Mary Trump invited me on today to understand Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries’ recent head-scratching decisions, which include a secret meeting with Jared Kushner, attacking Medicare For All, throwing Democratic Socialists under the bus, and now promoting right-wing talking points and attacks against progressive streamer Hasan Piker.

Clearly, this man has the pulse of the people.

Or, he’s completely compromised and ossified by corporate money and is not the leader we deserve nor need for this moment. There is a precise moment when an establishment framework shifts from merely outdated to entirely dysfunctional. We are watching that collapse unfold in real-time, yet the political leadership tasked with confronting it remains intent on playing by a blueprint that no longer exists.

When House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries sat down for a private meeting with Jared Kushner—a man with no official government mandate, billions in foreign private equity backing, and a central role in the previous administration’s worst excesses—it signaled something far deeper than routine Washington back-channeling. It laid bare the fundamental bargain of establishment politics: when threatened by genuine systemic change, elite political factions will always seek common ground with one another before they yield power to the people they represent.

The Illusion of Power and the Myth of Access

The defense of such meetings always relies on a familiar political vocabulary: pragmatism, foresight, preparing to govern. We are told that future leaders must engage with power, regardless of where it originates. But that argument intentionally obscures the mechanics of the meeting itself.

This eagerness to find common ground with elite opponents stands in stark contrast to how party leadership treats internal dissent. While corporate interests and political dynasties are met with open doors and quiet assurances, movement politics, progressive proposals, and grassroots organizers are met with open hostility and strategic exclusion.

The math behind this calculation is straightforward:

• Universal policies supported by massive supermajorities—such as comprehensive healthcare reform—are routinely dismissed as impractical or politically dangerous.

• The priorities of corporate donors and entrenched PACs are integrated directly into party strategy.

• Internal party energy is spent marginalizing reform-minded voices rather than confronting the external forces actively eroding democratic institutions.

By positioning progressive momentum as the primary threat to stability, party managers reveal their true priority: preserving the internal mechanics of the institution over delivering material results for the public.

The Cost of International and Domestic Instability

While Washington engages in backroom positioning, the material reality for ordinary citizens continues to deteriorate. Decades of prioritizing corporate efficiency over systemic resilience have left the nation vulnerable to cascading failures across basic infrastructure, trade stability, and public services.

Globally, the premise of American hegemony—historically maintained through a mix of military presence and economic leverage—is fraying. International partners increasingly view U.S. policy not as a stable anchor, but as an erratic variable subject to dramatic shifts every four years. When trade policy turns into erratic posturing and longstanding alliances are treated as protection rackets, global partners simply look elsewhere for predictable relationships.

Domestically, the consequences of this instability are felt immediately:

1. Supply Chain Fragility: Basic food safety, agricultural stability, and consumer access are repeatedly compromised by deregulated oversight.

2. Infrastructure Strain: Power grids and regional utilities face unprecedented strain, exposed by shifting energy demands and underfunded modernization.

3. Economic Uncertainty: Erratic trade wars and arbitrary tariffs drive up costs for working families while destabilizing core domestic industries.

The Miscalculation of the Old Guard

The fundamental flaw of current establishment strategy is the belief that the old rules still apply. The political class operates under the assumption that public anger can be managed indefinitely through calculated rhetoric, theatrical hearings, and periodic appeals to civility.

They do not recognize that the meteor has already struck. The systems that sustained mid-20th-century political compromises have eroded. You cannot manage an era of profound crisis with tools designed for an era of comfortable consensus.

When political leaders choose to reassure elites rather than fight for structural reform, they do not preserve their power—they accelerate their own irrelevance. The public does not need performative opposition or backroom deals designed to protect the status quo. It requires leadership capable of recognizing the scale of the moment and standing firmly against the forces dismantling our collective future.

My old law school professor, Carlton Larson, taught me Constitutional Law. As a law nerd and defender of human rights, he can’t stand how the conservative majority on the Supreme Court treats this foundational document as their personal Play-Doh to manipulate to achieve their regressive ends.

In his recent book, One Nation Under Law: The Meaning of the Declaration of Independence, he explains what the founders actually intended and what they wrote. They did not want to create a President with king-like powers above reproach, able to escape accountability and amass billions in profit for himself and his corrupt family. They also didn’t advocate for the Church to be the State and the establishment of Christianity as the dominant religion in what was supposed to be a secular country with religious freedoms.

If you reflect on the recent Supreme Court decisions, they were either terrible law students or they just don’t care about the Constitution and the rule of law and abuse their power to promote their right-wing agenda.

For nearly four decades, the constitutional law professor and attorney has used the law to fight against voter discrimination and argued landmark election cases in the Supreme Court. In a recent Guardian article, he explains how Trump and Republicans will plan to rig the upcoming elections so they can stay in power and avoid accountability.

If you need proof, listen to Trump. They aren’t hiding their supervillain plot. Last month, he held a thirty-minute address alleging that China interfered in our elections. In February, MAGA extremists concocted a 17-page guide to rationalize Trump declaring a national emergency and taking control of elections. This includes alleging foreign interference, eliminating mail-in ballots, strict voter ID requirements, and disallowing the use of electronic voting machines.

Earlier today, The Guardian published a new article interviewing voter experts who cite Trump’s recent actions as evidence that he indeed will go ahead with his audacious plot to take over the elections that will most likely cede the House and Senate to a Democratic majority.

Walbert, author of the new book, Stealing Elections, American Style, joins The Left Hook to explain how the conservative Supreme Court, led by John Roberts, has long dreamt of gutting the Voting Rights Act and subverting democracy and might aid Trump in his dictatorial fantasies.
