a smooth flat stone. worn into its shape rather than built
a galette shows the process

so would it still really be a galette, if it didn’t have… patina?

]]><![CDATA[was morandi onto something?]]>https://thelovebakery.substack.com/p/was-morandi-onto-somethinghttps://thelovebakery.substack.com/p/was-morandi-onto-somethingFri, 10 Jul 2026 01:38:49 GMTlately i keep thinking about what fits just right, and i mean the thing where you don’t even know you were looking for it until it’s there and then you can’t unsee it, can’t put it back, the way a bowl finds the one shelf or a word finds the one sentence and everything around it just goes quiet… was that a pin dropping that i just heard? i think that’s the whole thing.

i’m baking what i can’t stop being curious about. tweaking, understanding, misunderstanding, doing, thinking, wondering, shifting, the same ingredients, for over a decade. but now... i’m doing it with a different perspective. the perspective that got me here.

i used to feel indulgent about that… but is being curious… indulgent?

but is right even a decision? i keep wondering if it’s less something you choose and more something you circle until it’s the only one left standing. if i make the same thing again and again, a little different each time, moving one small thing just to see how the whole of it shifts, is that fussiness, or is it devotion?

morandi painted the same bottles over and over his entire life and i think he was onto something...
