This has become one of my favorite dishes for easy weeknight dinners.

I’ve been cooking since before I was 7 years old. My mammaw (yes, I’m from the south) used to pull a chair up to the stove and let me help her make bacon.

My mammaw and mom spent all of their time in the kitchen so naturally I was lucky enough to get those recipes that are sometimes lost including homemade biscuits, doughnuts, and gravy from scratch.

Today, I’m sharing one of those recipes that I know they would have loved.

Now, before I get started I want to explain exactly why this isn’t a typical recipe.

I’ve been a practicing Reiki Master for over 15 years and a cannabis sommelier for 10 and I know how much energy can go into a meal.

There’s a reason so many of us connect through meals.

The dinner table and the kitchen have always been a place of gathering and healing.

Each recipe I’ll be sharing over the next few months will include a cannabis pairing, an expected feeling, food symbolism, terpene and flavonoid profile, when to make, an intention, and what corresponding chakras the food will enrich.

Oven Baked Black Pepper Garlic Salmon and Boursin Salad with Australian Olive Oil served with Buttered Black Beans & Truffle Mac & Cheese

Pro Tips:

1. My household is not a big dairy crew, so we tend to use chicken broth or vegetable broth as a substitute in mac and cheese recipes.

2. You can also use boxed mac and cheese for this recipe.

Ingredients: Shop The Grocery List

• Black Pepper Salmon

• Romaine Lettuce

• Orange Pepper

• Boursin Cheese (your favorite)

• Cucumber

• Corn

• Garlic Salt

• Black Garlic (my secret ingredient for everything)

• Black Beans (drained and seasoned with Kinders Garlic Butter Seasoning)

• Macaroni Noodles

• 1/4 cup Cheddar Cheese

• 1/4 Vegetable or chicken broth instead of milk

• 2 tbs butter

• Truffle Shavings

• Australian Olive Oil

• Kinders Garlic Butter Seasoning

Directions

• Preheat Oven to 400°

• Place salmon skin side UP on a greased baking sheet and place in for 20 minutes (checking at 15 minutes)

• Start to boil water for mac and cheese

• Drain and rinse black beans

• Place on low heat with Kinders seasoning

• Cut lettuce, wash and chop

• Add lettuce to serving bowl and use garlic salt before adding other ingredients (this will make the salad taste better if you’re not using dressing)

• Add orange peppers, cucumbers, corn, boursin cheese crumbles

• Drizzle with olive oil

• Add noodles to boiling water until al dente - drain and leave in strainer

• Turn heat down to low

• Add 2 tbs of butter to pot with 1/4 broth whisk until butter is melted

• Add in clove of black garlic and whisk until broken down

• Slowly add cheddar cheese to broth until melted

• Add noodles back in and stir

• Shave truffle on top

• Remove salmon from oven and let rest

Plate on square or circular plate with salmon on right side of plate with mac and cheese to the left of the salmon. Add black beans in small ramiken. Add salad.

Sprinkle garlic salt atop Mac and Salmon.

I pitched Vice back in 2022 about a weekly tarot series and never heard back.

So when I saw this I pitched 10 different column ideas

backed by 20 years of professional practice,

3 published books with Hachette, (more coming soon)

documented paranormal clearings,

and a partnerships with real Hollywood exorcists

plus comedians doing ghost hunts with men they found on Grindr.

Now, I’ve known media companies to steal ideas and publish them as their own,

and honestly I don’t trust Vice to not steal my ideas

after telling me they have what they need.

So I’m going to share them with you instead.

I was the first to pitch the reporter and after 24 pitches

I was told: “We’ve got what we needs at this time.”

Translation: They’ll “work for exposure” and won’t ask to be paid.

(Vice currently only has “daily” horoscopes on their website with no other metaphysical content or writers.)

And Let’s be for real, It’s Vice… there is no real substance of content.

Recent articles they published are:

A weekly column for people who need truth, not coddling.

Here’s how this works:

Every week, I’m reading tarot for the situations you’re actually in.

You submit them anonymously or they fit an archetype we all know:

• The one who won’t leave their ex (We will be reading the Love Island contestants for filth!)

• The guy sabotaging his career (you hate your job but you won’t leave)

• The person in a toxic friendship they can’t let go of (she never texts you back but yet you’re still waiting)

• The person who knows their relationship is dead but keeps trying to “fix it”(it’s not supposed to be this hard)

I tell you the real meaning.

I won’t coddle you.

• “The universe is guiding you, the universe has your back bullshit”

• A confirmation that your feelings are valid (they might not be) - maybe you’re acting ridiculous and no one will speak up

• A “girl’s girl” guide (this is a Bitch’s Bitch guide)

This is:

Pour it all out and know that you’re creating space for something that can fill the container.

Let her go because if she was really your friend,

she wouldn’t be picking and choosing when she answers and spends time with you.

Stop giving time to people who won’t do the same for you.

This extends out into family as well.

The Dance card!

It’s time to actually move that stagnant energy you’ve been clinging to waiting for something to change.

Turn on your favorite music and just let your body move.

The energy your curating is lower in vibration on the frequency scale, (fear, guilt, shame).

You have to dispel this energy for new energy to come in.

Love, joy, and gratitude can’t exist in the same frequency as shame, fear, and guilt.

They are all different.

Just like water can’t be in a solid and liquid state at the same time.

It’s either one or the other.

It’s right in front of your face.

She’s been giving you sign after sign and you’re still holding on hope that “she’ll come around”.

No, let it go.

The truth is right in front of your face.

Believe people when they show it to you.

The hard truth:
Shared history isn’t a reason to stay in a relationship that’s hurting you.

It’s actually the worst reason, because it tricks you into thinking you owe her loyalty for being there before.

You don’t.

People change.

Sometimes they change into people who drain you.

That’s not your fault.

It’s also not your responsibility to fix.

What you actually need to do:
Stop calling her.

Stop explaining yourself.

Stop giving her chances to “do better.”

She won’t.

And every time you forgive her,

you’re teaching her that carelessness and ignoring you don’t have consequences.

Create distance now, not as punishment, but as self-respect.

If she notices and asks why, you can have that conversation.

Most likely, she won’t even care because she’s too busy not giving a f*ck.

The cards aren’t telling you to be nice about it.

They’re telling you to leave and pour two out for the friendship.

I want to tell you a story.

I talk to attorneys every single day.

I’m married to one.

I have dozens of friends who are also attorneys.

A major news corporation stole my content,

posted it to their website,

acted like they spoke with me,

and put it all in an article, without my permission.

They posted it on their platform,

embedded it,

and made it available to their audience without a license,

without credit,

and without a single conversation with me first.

When I found it, I contacted them.

Their response?

They removed the content and told me, in writing,

that the matter was closed.

It was not closed.

I insisted they pay me a retroactive licensing fee for using my content without consent.

They realized quickly they could not bully me into silence so they sent their attorney my way.

This isn’t the first time this happened and it won’t be the last.

I can’t tell you which media outlets did this but I can tell you how to avoid being taken advantage of.

This is the story of how that happened,

and more importantly,

what I learned along the way that every creator needs to know

before this happens to them, because it will happen to you.

Maybe it already has.

“The Matter Is Closed”

That phrase is designed to make you stop.

When a platform removes your content and declares the matter closed,

they’re banking on the fact that most creators don’t know

the difference between a takedown and a resolution.

Those are two completely different things.

A takedown addresses future access.

It says: we removed it, it’s gone, you can’t see it anymore.

That your content already lived on their platform,

in a commercial environment,

generating traffic and revenue,

without your permission and without compensation.

Removal under the DMCA is not a retroactive license.

It does not erase what already happened.

When they told me the matter was closed,

I responded the same day.

I told them that their response addressed only the removal of the content,

not the separate issue of prior unauthorized display

and distribution of my copyrighted work.

I told them I was pursuing a retroactive licensing fee.

And I told them that nothing in their response should be construed as a waiver

of any rights or remedies available to me,

all of which I expressly reserved.

What Happened When the Attorney Got Involved

Their attorney was professional at first.

She denied the usage and then I corrected the record with screenshots and proof.

She got approval to make an offer to settle.

And she sent me a settlement agreement.

I read every single word of it.

Here is what was inside that agreement that I would

have never signed without fully understanding:

A release clause that covered all of my content,

not just the video they used.

The language said I was releasing them from

“any other claim or cause of action for copyright infringement.”

That doesn’t mean just this video.

One settlement,

signed in haste,

could have functionally given them a free pass on everything

I’ve ever created.

What kind of attorney sneaks that into a settlement?

In my opinion, a very shady one.

This is where I saw through the “niceness” of the attorney and knew they were trying to take advantage of me.

A 45-day payment window is what they proposed.

For money they already owed me.

On a 3 figure settlement?

From a corporation with a market cap in the trillions.

These are the corps people should be pissed at…

A requirement that I go through the formal DMCA process for any future violations before I could assert a claim.

Meaning if they did this again,

I couldn’t just come after them.

I’d have to navigate a government process first.

They tried to build themselves a procedural shield

against their own future misconduct,

inside the very agreement meant to resolve their current misconduct.

A confidentiality clause.

I couldn’t tell you this story.

I couldn’t warn other creators.

I couldn’t use my own experience to educate my community.

That was the price.

I redlined every single one.

The Negotiation Only I Can Tell You About

Here’s what the creator industry doesn’t talk about enough:

a settlement agreement is not a take-it-or-leave-it document.

It is an opening position.

You are allowed to negotiate.

I sent back a redlined agreement with tracked changes,

comments explaining each objection,

and replacement language for every clause I rejected.

I did not apologize for it.

I did not soften it.

I treated it like the legal document it was.

They pushed back on some things.

I held firm on others.

Over the course of several weeks,

and I won’t sugarcoat this,

it was exhausting,

we went back and forth until the agreement reflected terms I could actually live with.

The release was narrowed to the specific video only.

The DMCA requirement was replaced with a simple direct email to their legal team.

The payment window was shortened.

And eventually,

50 days after they told me the matter was closed,

I submitted my signed agreement,

my W-9,

and my payment link,

all at the same time,

all in one email and the clock started.

This was the second time I had to speak with a major news outlets legal team to correct a mistake their client’s made.

The first time their attorney sent the agreement,

and the payment was not made within the 2 week period

they stated in the agreement.

So I emailed their attorney again and

she had the payment sent that day.
