Episode Overview

In this episode, I’m joined by Dr. Joelle Chateauneuf, Family Nurse Practitioner, founder of Empower Health & Wellness, and creator of the Empower Method™.

Joelle’s path into this work started with her own personal struggle. About 20 years ago she got sick with a neurological disease called Guillain-Barré, which affects the peripheral nervous system.

She went from provider to provider without a typical onset, kept getting dismissed, and was essentially taught not to listen to her own body because nothing could be “found.”

Eventually she couldn’t walk, was hospitalized, needed IV immunoglobulin, and had to relearn how to walk from scratch… all while living with no job, no income, no car, and no health insurance.

That low point is where her integrative journey began. She started working at an integrative health practice, learned functional medicine, and discovered craniosacral work, mind-body breathwork, and meditation as additions to traditional Western medicine.

Later, at Dana-Farber, she worked with cancer patients who were allergic to their own chemotherapy and learned Reiki as a hands-on tool to help calm those reactions — work she eventually turned into a published paper and conference poster on the effects of touch therapy.

We talk about the years of “relapses” she experienced afterward every time she got stressed, and the mindset shift — after about ten years — that turned those flare-ups from a hindrance into a signal.

We get into the difference between meditation, hypnosis, and prayer, why the body’s wisdom deserves to be trusted rather than dismissed, and how the Empower Method blends allopathic medicine, functional medicine, lifestyle medicine, energy work, and medical hypnosis for women navigating perimenopause, menopause, hormone therapy, and metabolic health.

In this convo I sat down with artist and feminine embodiment coach, Kyle Browne, founder of In The Raw Art + Embodied Creativity, to talk about what it really means to create from the body instead of the mind, and why that’s true in both art and business.

Kyle shares how her own art practice, rooted in feminine imagery and movement, evolved into 1:1 coaching and creative workshops, and how a background in dance and feminine embodiment training taught her to trust the wisdom of the body over the noise of the mind.

The conversation moves through some rich territory: the tension between intuition and fear in business decisions, the idea that your business (like a material you’re working with) will tell you what it needs if you actually listen, and why receiving has to come before giving if you want to create sustainably.

We also dig into rest, and how “rest” doesn’t always look like stillness; sometimes it looks like time alone in the studio with no audience and no agenda.

A Birthday, a Speaking Coach, and a Sign From the Universe

Last week we celebrated my 39th trip around the sun. It was so much fun and I did something unusual this year.

Normally (in true Leo fashion) I treat my birthday like a national holiday... But this year was a little different.

This year I was feeling a pull to perfect my public speaking, to nail down my signature talk, my framework, and determine what sets me apart from other business coaches.

I wanted to deepen how I communicate my ideas and unique perspectives in a way that makes sense, motivates people, and that creates change because that’s ultimately the point, right?

I have a few speaking engagements coming up this Fall, which I’m really excited about!

And once I decided this would be my next move, this public speaking coach I’ve been following for years popped into my head immediately. I wondered if she was still around because I hadn’t seen any of her content in my feed for (literal) years.

I knew I wanted a coach to help me through this because, as we know, anybody can do anything themselves, but if we want it done faster, then we hire somebody who knows what to do!

Like I mentioned, I hadn’t seen Ziza come into my Facebook feed in forever (mini rant: just goes to show how unreliable the algorithm is and why you can’t rely on social media alone for visibility)...

And of course, lo and behold, she shows up on my feed within a week of deciding on hiring a coach for this. Her post said something along the lines of “hey, this is the last chance to work with me on your public speaking because I’m sunsetting all of my offers” ... Message received, Universe. Thank you very much.

I decided this would be the PERFECT birthday gift to myself. I also figured what better way to celebrate Leo season than shining in this way, right?!

It was an INTENSE 2 weeks together, and in that time we nailed down how to share my story, my frameworks, and how I deliver what I deliver. And I honestly have not stopped creating since. I keep writing. I keep recording because now the ideas just don’t stop flowing!

Also, I have to mention that our container ended on Sunday and the very next day on Monday an email landed in my inbox from a professor from my undergrad, with a keynote speaking opportunity for the fall.

There was ZERO pitching. That’s literally just how energetics work. When you say yes to something, when you set that intention AND you take action, that’s when the perfect opportunities.

The Garden Framework: 3 Steps to Grow Your Business

What I’ve been developing is my signature framework because I basically look at how we grow our businesses as a metaphor for growing a flourishing garden.

The 3 steps are: preparing the soil, companion planting, and seasonal planning.

Step 1: Preparing the Soil (aka The Inner Work)

There’s a method called the French Gardening Method, used by gardeners in Paris who work small plots of land and want to produce as much as possible from them.

The first step is preparing the soil through double digging… digging twice as deep as you think you need to, so the roots have more flexibility to go deeper and get more nutrients.

In business, this relates to the inner work. The preparation that has to happen before you launch offers or start marketing.

This is where you’re understanding your purpose, yourself, and doing the shadow work, the light work, the subconscious reprogramming. There’s so much that goes into this first layer, and it’s preparing you for what’s to come.

This is something you’ll need to go back and do if you hit blocks as you’re getting offers out there and growing your business. It also relates to your self-care and how well you’re tending to yourself, making sure your foundations and your basic needs are met, so you can show up as your full self in the rest of your business.

Step 2: Companion Planting (aka Aligning Your Offers and Marketing)

In gardening, companion planting means planting things together that naturally work well with each other, and it goes the other way, too. Certain things you never plant together because it just doesn’t work: not with the soil, the plants, or the bugs they attract or repel.

There’s an indigenous planting method called Three Sisters, where you grow corn, green beans, and squash together in one plot. The corn grows tall and strong, providing a natural pole for the beans to climb. The squash’s big leaves cover the ground, creating a natural mulch that keeps the soil healthy and keeps bugs away. These plants are companions… they support each other.

In your business, companion planting means making sure your offers and your marketing are working together. If they’re not, nothing is really going to grow. You’ll be watering those plants every day without getting the fruit you want. Take tomatoes and basil: basil repels the pests that go after tomatoes, so they grow better together.

Your marketing works the same way. It attracts the people you want and repels those who aren’t ready for the transformation your offers provide.

Step 3: Succession Planning (aka Building for the Season You’re In)

Succession planning in gardening means making the most of the land and soil you have, and planning for the seasons. In business, this means recognizing that every season of your life is different, and you need to plan your business accordingly. Whether that’s parenthood, caring for a loved one through illness, or simply the cyclical seasons of the year.

How you operate your business in the summer might look totally different than in the winter, based on you, your lifestyle, your offers, and your clients. When you take all of this into account, the pieces come together and everything works with nature.

A Client Story: Reframing “I Didn’t Do Much” Into Real Progress

I want to tell you a story about a client session I had yesterday with a dear client. I absolutely love her, she does such cool work. We’ve been working together since the beginning of this year, when she decided to get really serious about her Reiki practice.

She had recently been diagnosed with ADHD, which was a huge eye-opener for her. She’s already had her kids, done all these things, and it was just, oh my gosh, I can’t believe this is how my brain works — I’ve been working against my nature my whole life.

We hadn’t had a session for 2 months, since around the beginning of summer. When we spoke yesterday, she said, “well, I didn’t really do much this summer. I kind of took a break, worked on self-care, took care of myself.”

I asked her what had been helping her — how it was going with her executive functioning, since she’d been looking for strategies to work better with the way her brain functions.

She’d been time blocking and using a timer, with blocks for moving her body, taking care of her house, taking care of her animals. She had a block for work, too, but shared she’d been kind of pushing that one off — which is totally fair.

So I had to reframe this for her: you said you haven’t done much, but this actually sounds like you’ve done a lot this summer. You’ve been working on methods to take care of yourself, to understand how your brain works, to understand how you’re going to show up and be the most productive.

We spent some time reflecting on that, then talked about how to bring what’s been working for her into her business and plan for the season ahead.

The first thing we did was look at what’s working. What offers does she want to focus on for the fall? She wants to get serious about animal Reiki, and stop saying yes to other collaborations that pop up but don’t align to the bigger picture.

We got really clear on her offers and her marketing strategy — she’d started a Facebook group, has a Substack, and has her hands in a lot of different pots — so we got clear on what actually made sense for her energy, audience and her goals.

We set up a strategy involving a weekly live on her FB page, since she loves going live, and integrating Substack, since that’s another thing she loves showing up on and had been a goal of hers for a while.

She’d told herself she wasn’t going to focus on Substack because she wanted more local people, and Substack is more of a global-reach platform. But now she’s seeing everyone posting, getting a little FOMO, and wants back on it. So we wove that into her strategy in a way that will actually take less time for her marketing work overall (score!).

Another important thing we did was look at what has and hasn’t worked in the past.

Sometimes things work and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes it’s scrapping something completely, other times it’s approaching it a different way.

Maybe it was the timing, the positioning, or it just didn’t have enough energy behind it. Talking through the reasons helps decide what to bring into your business going forward.

We ended the session with her fully excited about her plan and already taking action!

What This Means for You: Planning Seeds for Fall

What this means for you: as I’m recording this, it’s around mid-August, and we’re about to enter into this eclipse portal #iykyk.

Let’s think about how we can make the most of this season. We’re still in summer, but many of us are feeling that shift. We’re not rushing it, but we are starting to think about the fall.

How we want our business to look for the rest of the year, the new offers we want to put out there, the ways we’re pivoting and want to change how we’re showing up.

So I want you to think about how you can continue to nurture and nourish yourself, just like this client. What are the things you’re doing to take care of yourself and build those habits and routines, so you have a strong foundation to start adding new things.

What seeds you can plant for the fall? What offers do you want to be putting out there? What channels of marketing do you want to be leaning into? What’s the sales process that’s going to feel really good and aligned for you?

These are great things to think about now, because there’s real work that goes into gardening — trust me, I’ve got the cuts and the dirty fingernails to prove it.

Whatever your plan is, it’s going to take work. So if you know what that’s going to be, you can prepare for it and plan for it, just like I do with all of my clients.

And there are ideas that arrive early, get set down for a decade, and come back exactly when you’re ready to hold them.

Zenathon was the second kind.

In this episode of The Offer Oracle podcast, I sat down with Sonya Masur, founder of Zenathon — a full-day “peace buffet” of wellness, movement, and community that’s now heading into its third year.

We talked about the download she sat on for a decade, what she learned the hard way between year one and year three, and why retreats are one of the most underrated gifts we can give ourselves.

From Jewelry Artist to Energy Healer: Sonya’s Origin Story

Sonya didn’t start in wellness. She started as a jewelry artist, helping other artists figure out pricing and marketing long before she ever held space for anyone’s healing.

A medical issue that traditional medicine couldn’t solve became her gateway — first to acupuncture, then Reiki, then a full-blown holistic practice she ran five days a week for over a decade. Along the way, she stopped following other people’s recipes entirely.

“I don’t tend to follow other people’s recipes. I listen and I learn them, and then I completely change them.”

That maverick instinct is the same one that eventually gave her Zenathon.

The Download That Became Zenathon

The first time the idea for Zenathon arrived, her kids were young, her practice was full, and she knew it wasn’t the right season.

“I felt like I was at capacity... I kind of just went, not right now. Thank you.”

The idea came back two years before COVID. What started as a three-pronged “triathlon” of yoga, meditation, and walking expanded into something much bigger: a buffet of practitioners and modalities where people could get a taste of many offerings instead of committing to one.

What Retreats Teach Us About Integration

Before Zenathon, Sonya spent years co-leading and eventually leading multi-day retreats. We talked about why the length of time away matters so much — and why the return home matters just as much as the retreat itself.

Her rule: always build in buffer time after a retreat, whether that’s an extra day before driving home or a full weekend before jumping back into normal life. Skip that integration window, and the nervous system pays for it.

“How do we keep the retreat energy that we have when we’re away? How do we keep that going in an everyday situation?”

That question is really the whole conversation in miniature.

Year One Bliss, Year Two Burnout, Year Three Alignment

This is the part I most wanted Sonya to share, because it’s the part most people leave out of their behind-the-scenes stories.

Year one of Zenathon was pure joy — new, exciting, and full of eager help. Year two was different. The team that showed up for year one didn’t return for year two, and Sonya found herself carrying most of it alone.

Rather than push through, she took the off-season to get honest about what had gone out of alignment. She rebuilt her team with intention — even using astrology and small trial projects to check compatibility before committing to bigger roles together.

The result, heading into year three: a team that actually holds the vision with her, instead of one she’s holding up by herself.

The Leadership Lessons Hiding Inside a Peace Buffet

We also got into the trickier parts of building something big in public — knowing whose feedback to actually weigh, protecting your original vision when everyone has an opinion, and the difference between waiting for divine timing and hiding behind fear.

Sonya’s advice for anyone sitting on their own “big idea” right now:

“Remind yourself what it is. Have it written down. Reread it — because everybody’s going to be like, oh, you know what you should do?”

Back when I started blogging in 2018, I’d pick one topic I wanted to go deep on, research it, actually think it through (remember, this is pre-AI times 🤣),and then break that one piece into everything else I needed for the week.

Substack let me go back to working the way that actually feels good to me: one real piece, broken into smaller ones, instead of constantly manufacturing small ones to keep up.

The email thing (I need you to actually hear this one).

Whatever you post on Substack goes straight to your subscribers’ inbox. Not “might show up in their feed if the algorithm likes you today.” Their inbox. Which matters because most of us have 3+ platforms we’re supposedly showing up on, and email (aka the one channel you actually own) is always the first thing that falls off the list.

You don’t own your Instagram. You own this. If Meta decides tomorrow they don’t like your account, it’s gone. Followers, content, all of it. Every subscriber on Substack is an email address that’s yours, in an asset you’re building regardless of what any platform decides to do.

Not-so-funny story… the day after I recorded this live one my clients texted me- she woke up that morning to her meta account being FULLY eliminated. It had been hacked, and now her entire account is gone. All her content, all her followers, all that freaking work - poof.

Yes, Substack is completely free.

Free to use, free to have a publication, free to monetize. Substack only makes money when you turn on paid subscriptions and people pay you - they don’t touch anything you sell elsewhere. No other platform works like that.

The vibe is just... different.

No ads. No clickbait rewarded. No bots sliding into your DMs to pitch you something (I get more of those on IG than actual humans, it’s exhausting). People comment because they mean it. It feels like waving at a neighbor over the fence, not bracing yourself for a troll.

It replaces work instead of adding it.

This was the question someone asked me that prompted this whole episode: “I don’t know if I can handle another platform.” Same. Which is exactly why I love this one. It consolidates what you’re already doing instead of giving you one more tab to keep open.

• Repurposing is baked in. Post a video or go live, and it auto-generates clips you can pull straight to Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts. You’re not creating five versions of everything by hand.

• It’s genuinely a growth engine. Most of my new subscribers come from other people on the platform. The collaboration and referral tools do real cross-pollination, which honestly just feels like how a lot of us naturally want to build anyway.

Just has other outdated systems in our world are crumbling around us… they’re also crumbling within us.

If you’ve been feeling a growing discomfort with the way online business “is supposed to work,” there’s a legitimate reason. Something is shifting (fast) and those of us who are intuitive and highly sensitive are feeling it in our bodies before we can even articulate it in words.

This is what I want to talk about today: the new paradigm of online business for spiritual entrepreneurs.

The healers, coaches, teachers, and guides who came into this work because they genuinely want to help people, not because they wanted to become content machines.

Let’s get into it.

Why the Old Model of Online Marketing Doesn’t Work for Spiritual Entrepreneurs

Most of us didn’t get into this work because we dreamed of building a personal brand. We came in because we wanted to help people heal their trauma, reconnect with their bodies, step into their most authentic selves, align their hormones, explore their past lives, or find their way back to themselves.

And then we were handed a marketing playbook that looked nothing like us.

We learned bro marketing. Hustle culture. Pain point marketing. Show up 24/7, post every day, follow the algorithm, optimize the funnel. Very hyper-masculine, very performative, very these are the rules and this is how we play them.

For many of us, it didn’t just feel bad, it didn’t even freakin work. Why? because we each have a unique blueprint for how we market, sell, and operate in our businesses.

This blueprint reflects your energy, your experiences, the specific people you’re here to serve, and the way you’re here to serve them.

There is no one-size-fits-all strategy. And the sooner we stop trying to force ourselves into someone else’s mold, the sooner we can actually build something that works.

The Trap of Comparisonitis and Vanity Metrics

One of the most insidious things about the online space is what I call comparisonitis. that constant low-grade pressure that comes from watching other people’s highlight reels and measuring yourself against them.

You see someone online who looks like they have everything figured out. Clear messaging. Strong engagement. Thousands of followers. And you think: that must mean they’re successful. That must mean I need to be doing what they’re doing.

But here’s the thing… what you see on the outside tells you nothing about what’s happening under the hood.

You don’t know what their income actually looks like. You don’t know what their life actually looks like. You are literally making decisions about your business based on someone else’s performance.

That pressure either shuts you down completely (i.e. you go silent, you stop creating) or it turns you into a square peg desperately trying to fit into a round hole, performing and emulating something that was never for you in the first place.

Neither of those moves your business forward. Neither of them is coming from your most aligned, most empowered self.

We Are in Co-Creation With Our Businesses

Here’s the reframe I keep coming back to:

As spiritual entrepreneurs - especially those of us who are creatives at our core - we are in co-creation with our businesses. The inspiration, the ideas, the content that actually moves people? It doesn’t come from a content calendar. It comes through us, when we’re tuned in, when we feel safe, when we have the space to receive it and act on it.

How many incredible ideas have you had that you never followed through on? You talked yourself out of it. You waited too long and the aliveness fizzled. You got busy and lost the thread entirely.

What makes content magnetic isn’t consistency for its own sake… it’s the fire behind it. When you create from that place of genuine inspiration and service, people can feel it. And that is what builds real connection.

The Culture of Consumption: What an RV Trip Taught Me

On Memorial Day weekend, my family and I packed into an RV and drove down the East Coast.

I brought 3 books. Didn’t open a single one. Games sat untouched in the cabinet. By day 3, the Bluetooth speaker had gone MIA.

What I found instead of all that noise was something I hadn’t realized I was starving for: simplicity and presence. The feeling of sand between my toes and sun on my skin. Sitting by the fire. Just being with what is, without filling every quiet moment with something.

And I noticed something: I had zero FOMO from being off social media. In fact, my desire to return to those spaces gets smaller every time I step away.

This trip also came at a significant moment… I had just made the decision to sunset my RISE Community program, which had been a central part of my offer ecosystem for almost three years. I was in integration. And the medicine I needed wasn’t more brain candy. It was more quiet.

“When we’re pressured to be online all the time - posting, engaging, consuming - we lose the time and space to just be. And that’s a big problem.”

The truth I had to sit with: even though “hustle” is a dirty word in my world, I had unwittingly built my business on a foundation of it. I was the one who, once things got simple, found a way to make them complex again.

The one who needed to perform to feel worthy of receiving. The inner work of the past year has been about shedding that identity - and this trip cracked it wide open.

We need to stop normalizing the distraction. We need to get a little bored again. Because simplicity is where clarity lives. And clarity is where our best creative energy comes from.

The Real Cost of the Old Platforms

I’ll let myself nerd out here for a minute, because this research validated everything I had already been feeling in my body.

Social media platforms are machines designed to keep you on them. That’s it.

The infinite scroll operates on what psychologists call a variable-ratio reinforcement schedule, the same mechanism as a slot machine. You keep scrolling because the next post might be the one that gives you something amazing.¹

This design was actually invented by a software developer named Aza Raskin, who later deeply regretted it after witnessing its psychological impact firsthand.² Each short video delivers a rapid dopamine hit, and the unpredictable nature of what comes next creates a variable reward cycle the brain finds highly addictive. Again, neurologically identical to what makes gambling compelling.¹

Social media interactions activate the same neural networks involved in substance addiction, creating lasting changes that influence behavior and well-being.³ And the stress of constant connectivity keeps cortisol levels elevated even after a stressful event - meaning when you reach for your phone to decompress, you’re actually making it worse.⁴

A major review of 57 studies covering over 571,000 participants found that daily social media use is associated with increased stress, anxiety, depression, loneliness, and poor sleep quality, alongside reduced self-esteem and life satisfaction.⁵

Like that’s not enough… these platforms are also increasingly unreal. Let’s talk about the AI-generated woman modeled after real voices in our space “writing books” and building followings. AI artists hitting number one on the charts. Burner accounts. Bots flooding your DMs. At some point, you genuinely cannot tell what’s human anymore.

“It’s literally just taking everything that we do, hijacking it, and selling it back to us.”

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to give my energy to that. I don’t want to feed that machine, and I definitely don’t want to become the kind of content creator I hate watching.

What the New Paradigm Actually Looks Like

So if the old model is performance, production, and overconsumption - what does the new paradigm look like?

It looks like creating because it’s an act of service, not because you need to keep up with a posting schedule.

It looks like channels that allow for depth… not just a 30-second reel or a carousel post that boxes your medicine into the smallest possible container.

It looks like quality over quantity. Real, genuine connection. Lifting each other up instead of competing.

It looks like a decentralization of the guru model - where the experts aren’t up on a pedestal and the rest of us are down below. It’s all of us doing our best, creating from our most sacred channel, and actually supporting each other.

We are seeing more communities, more sisterhoods, more networks and genuine collaborations emerging because THIS is the New Paradigm. We don’t have to see each other as competition. We can say: I love what you’re doing. How can we work together on this?

Why I’ve Fallen in Love With Substack

This is exactly why I’ve been drawn so deeply to Substack as a platform.

It’s where I can write. It’s where I can get deep. It’s where I can speak to you as a full human being, with nuance and depth, instead of trying to compress everything into a format designed for a 3-second scroll.

What I love most about the Substack community is that you can feel the humans behind the words. When I read someone’s post here, I know there’s a real person on the other side of it with a real perspective, real lived experience, real medicine to share. You cannot fake that and you can 💯 feel the difference.

The image I get when I think of Substack is a warm, friendly neighborhood. Everybody taking care of their yard, waving at you as you walk by. Hey neighbor, love those hydrangeas. That’s the energy here. And that’s the energy I want to build in.

For me personally, social media has become simply a way to invite people into this space. Because this is where I actually want to spend my time and energy AND this is something I want to help my clients do who are also leading movements.

A Question Worth Sitting With

Before I close, I want to leave you with this:

What would you create if there were no algorithm?

What would you write, share, or say if it was purely for the people who needed to hear it - with no performance metrics attached, no follower count to chase, no comparison to make?

That answer is your medicine. And the world needs you to stop keeping it inside a 30-second format.

It’s Not a Patience Problem. It’s a Nervous System Problem.

Child and family therapist, Becki Smith, on why overwhelmed moms aren’t broken, why parenting always surfaces relationship challenges, and how she built an offer suite that finally lets her reach more of them.

Before Becki Smith decided to become a child and family therapist, she was a molecular biologist studying cellular connections. She didn’t know then that she was training for the work she was actually meant to do.

When her daughter was born — colicky, a difficult sleeper, a child who would eventually be diagnosed with sensory processing differences and mild autism — Becki found herself in a gap she couldn’t bridge with a science degree. She knew what her daughter needed in theory. She had no idea how to give it to her in practice.

That gap sent her back to school. Then again. And again — through graduate coursework in child and family therapy, certifications in somatic experiencing, attachment science, and healing trauma.

Years of training and two children later, she now does for other moms what nobody did for her: helps them understand what’s actually happening, so they can finally do something different.

“We are gifted these children by the universe — but we don’t always have the tools to navigate that. Our kids can come in a way that’s very different from what we were expecting, and nobody teaches us how to meet them there.”

Getting Quiet Enough to Find Your Niche

For years, Becki worked with a wide range of clients — couples, individuals, parents across all kinds of situations. She had the skills to help almost anyone. Which, as any practitioner knows, can become its own kind of problem.

The shift came when she started paying attention to what happened after her sessions ended. Who was still on her mind? Whose stories were staying with her on the drive home?

It was always the moms.

“I got really quiet and just started listening to my own inner whispers,” she says. “When I stepped away from calls, the mom’s experience was staying with me. I kept thinking — I want to create something to help this.

📌 THE RESEARCH

Moms carry approximately 80% of the caregiving load — physical, mental, and emotional — whether they work inside or outside the home.

As Becki puts it: “We don’t need research to tell us that. We have our lived experience. But when you understand that number, it reframes everything about why mom’s wellbeing has to come first.”

The math, she explains, is simple: when a mom is well-resourced and supported, the entire family system shifts. Children are regulated by their caregivers’ nervous systems before they can regulate themselves. If the primary caregiver is running on empty, everyone in the house feels it — even when no one says a word.

What “Neuro-Beautiful” Really Means

Alongside her clinical work, Becki has coined a phrase that’s becoming something of a quiet rallying cry among the moms in her community: neuro-beautiful.

The term grew out of her own experience parenting a daughter with autism — and out of a frustration with the binary framing of neurotypical versus neurodiverse.

“I really believe we’re all on a spectrum,” she says. “We’re each wired in our own genuinely beautiful way, bringing our own mix of gifts to the world. It seems very shortsighted to just have two pots.”

“I explain it to my daughter like this: if the world only had tulips, we’d miss everything. We’d miss hydrangeas, and roses, and trees, and all the different kinds of plants. The world is infinitely more beautiful because of that diversity. And so are we.”

For moms navigating a child’s diagnosis — or simply a child whose wiring doesn’t match the world’s expectations — Becki’s reframe offers something more useful than a clinical label: a way of seeing their child that leads to understanding rather than resistance.

Why Parenting Always Surfaces the Relationship

Ask Becki about parenting struggles and she’ll almost always bring in a third element within a few minutes: the partner relationship. Not because she’s looking for it, but because it’s almost always already there.

“Kids don’t break the relationship,” she says plainly. “They just bring to the surface what was already there.”

The mechanism is predictable. A child starts struggling — behaviors, meltdowns, battles that nobody knows how to win. The parents, each carrying their own histories and stress responses, find themselves on opposite sides of how to handle it. One wants to set a firmer boundary. The other wants to give it more time. Neither approach is wrong. But the disagreement adds another layer of pressure to a system that’s already full.

“Now you have a child who’s struggling and you’re at a battleground with your partner about how to manage it. And then put on top of that that moms are carrying the vast majority of the mental load. It feels like you’re buried underneath it all.”

Understanding attachment styles — her own and her partner’s — is often where Becki begins. Each of the four main attachment styles carries its own communication patterns and coping mechanisms, and most conflicts that feel like they’re about parenting are actually about those underlying patterns playing out in real time.

“When moms have space to slow down and really unpack that,” she says, “they start to see that maybe their partner isn’t trying to intentionally hurt them — maybe he’s stressed and coping the best he can. And when they can see that, they can get on the same team and help the child get the support they need.”

It’s Not a Willpower Problem. Here’s What It Actually Is.

Of all the things Becki says to the moms she works with, this one tends to land hardest: what you’re experiencing isn’t a character flaw. It’s a nervous system response.

She uses a simple image to explain it: the pressure cooker.

“We start the day with a certain capacity,” she says. “And then the transitions begin. Getting kids to breakfast. Getting them to school. Managing sensory overload if you’re home with them all day, or work demands if you’re not. Each of those things slowly builds heat and stress in our system.”

📌 THE PRESSURE COOKER EFFECT

By the time a mom reaches the evening — the homework battles, the toothbrushing standoffs, the child who trips and cries — her nervous system isn’t responding to a child who won’t brush their teeth.

It’s responding to everything that’s been building all day. The meeting that went badly. The text from her partner that felt like a jab. The permission slip she forgot. The three transitions before 8am.

“When a mom loses it over something small, she often feels like a terrible mother,” Becki says. “But it’s not about who she is. It’s about how much she’s carrying — without a release valve.”

Finding that release valve — the specific thing that allows a particular mom to let off pressure before she blows — is a central part of Becki’s work. And it’s different for everyone. Some people need movement. Some need silence. Some need a text to a friend. The point isn’t the tool. The point is interrupting the pressure cycle before it reaches the point of no return.

“If you’re yelling more than you’d like, if you’re having mom rage — it’s a reflection of how much stress you’re navigating. The mental load. Maybe work. Maybe caring for aging parents. Our nervous system can only hold so much before it blows. That is not a moral failing. That is physiology.”

And there’s a generational piece that Becki finds both sobering and hopeful: research suggests that approximately 80% of a child’s emotional regulation patterns — their default ways of coping, communicating, and managing big feelings — are set down before the age of one, inherited from the primary caregiver’s nervous system.

“That’s a number that can feel scary,” she says. “But here’s what I want moms to hear: it’s changeable. Whatever patterns are showing up right now — they can be shifted. That’s why this work matters so much, and why it works.”

How Her Offers Evolved — and Why That Evolution Matters

Becki is candid about the fact that her offer suite looked very different a few years ago: primarily individual sessions, available when clients were ready, with no real container for the deeper sustained work that transformation actually requires.

It took time — and, she says, real outside perspective — to build something that could serve moms at every stage of their journey.

“I always wanted to meet moms wherever they were,” she says. “But I needed support to put structure in place so I could help them actually get the outcomes they were looking for. When you sign up for a package, you make it work. You show up. And that’s what makes the difference.”

Finding Your Footing Again — The Workshop

The live workshop is where the work begins. In 45 focused minutes, Becki walks moms through a gentle introduction to the stress cycle, the animal states framework (tiger, turtle, dolphin), and a guided exercise that helps them recognize their own patterns in real time — not just intellectually, but in their body.

What makes the framework particularly powerful, as she explains it, is its portability: the language is simple enough for moms to use with their kids, which means the tools don’t stay in the workshop. They travel home with you.

“My intention was to create something where you can walk away and have a solid understanding of how everything you’re carrying is causing you to be in this stress cycle,” she says — “and then know how to move out of it.”

Alongside her paid offers, Becki runs a free Facebook community called MomCare: Support for Parenting, Partner Relationships and the Mental Load — built on a simple recognition: a lot of modern moms don’t have a village anymore.

“I wanted a space where if you’re having a hard moment — at the grocery store, after dinner, after a really hard bedtime — you can head in and find support quickly,” she says. “A community of women who get it. Where you can say you had a hard moment and went into the bathroom and cried, without anyone judging you for it.”
