Why do bad things happen to good people?

This is the question everyone asks, including me. and Jesus never answered directly.

“Why do bad things happen to good people?”

He heard it in different forms, different moments, different tears.

When a tower collapsed and killed innocent people, they wanted an explanation. Jesus didn’t give one.

When a man was born blind, they asked, “Who sinned?” (John 9:2) Jesus refused the blame game.

He never explained suffering the way philosophers do.

He never solved it with logic.

Instead... He did something unsettling.

He stood inside it. He wept at Lazarus’ tomb even though He knew resurrection was minutes away. (John 11:35)

He healed some, not all.

Answered prayers, not every one.

And then He allowed Himself to become the ultimate “good person” who suffered the worst evil.

Beaten. Mocked. Crucified. Without explaining why.

Here’s what shook me, Jesus didn’t come to answer why pain exists. He came to show what God does with it.

The cross wasn’t an explanation, it was a revelation.

That God doesn’t stand far away giving reasons.

He enters suffering. Carries it. Transforms it.

Jesus never said, “Here’s why this happened.”

He said, “Follow Me.” (Matthew 16:24)

Not away from pain, but through it. Even the disciples faced brutal deaths despite preaching and performing miracles in Jesus’s name.

So maybe the question isn’t why bad things happen...

Maybe it’s: Where is God when they do?

And the cross answers that clearly. Right there, with us.

Now here's my own take: Humans naturally crave a reason for suffering. Blaming a higher power which is easier than accepting that life can be completely random and chaotic. God created a perfect world, but human rebellion introduced sin, which broke the natural order and brought pain into life.
