In 2011, psychologist Betsy Sparrow and her colleagues asked a question that feels even more relevant today:

What happens to our memory when we know information is always available online?

The answer changed how researchers think about memory in the digital age.

Two Groups was given same statement but they were in two different rooms.

Group A hears:

“This statement will be saved.”

Group B hears:

“This statement will be erased.”

That’s it. Nothing else changes. Later, everyone is asked to remember the sentence.

The result surprised researchers~

People who believed the computer had saved the information remembered less of it. Those who thought it would disappear remembered more. The information itself hadn’t changed.

Only one thing had~ People believed someone—or something else—was remembering it for them.

Your Brain Is Smarter Than You Think

At first glance, this sounds like bad news.

But it actually reveals something remarkable. Your brain isn’t trying to remember everything. It’s trying to remember efficiently. Every day, you’re exposed to thousands of pieces of information.

If your brain treated every Instagram post, LinkedIn article, and YouTube video as equally important, you’d be overwhelmed.

Instead, it constantly asks:

“Do I really need to store this?”

If the answer is:

“No. I can find it later.”

Your brain spends less energy memorising it.

Stop Living the Life Inside Instagram

There was a time when Instagram was just an app I opened to pass a few minutes. Somewhere along the way, it stopped being an app and started feeling like a place I lived.

The strange part isn’t how much I scroll. It’s how I feel when I stop.

The moment I put my phone down, reality feels... quieter. Slower. Almost empty. It’s as if the real world has lost its color while the digital one has become more alive. Sometimes I catch myself reaching for my phone not because I’m bored, but because my brain has started believing that if I’m not scrolling, I’m somehow missing life itself.

That’s the illusion Instagram creates.

Every swipe gives us a new face, a new destination, a new success story, a new joke, a new outrage, a new trend. Our brains begin to associate endless novelty with being alive. Sitting in silence, reading a book, having a slow conversation, or simply thinking suddenly feels “boring”—not because these things actually are, but because our minds have been trained to expect a new dopamine hit every few seconds.

The scary part is that Instagram doesn’t just steal our attention. It quietly replaces our reality.

After enough scrolling, the world inside the app starts feeling more real than the one outside it. You know what celebrities are doing before you know how your neighbor is doing. You know the vacation spots influencers visited before you’ve explored your own city. You know everyone’s opinions, but you’ve spent very little time listening to your own thoughts.

It’s like living inside a digital Matrix.

The Matrix wasn’t dangerous because people were asleep. It was dangerous because they believed the simulation was reality.

Instagram works in a similar way. It builds a world that’s brighter, faster, richer, funnier, more successful, and more exciting than everyday life. Then it invites you to compare your ordinary Tuesday afternoon with someone else’s carefully edited highlight reel.

Eventually, your brain stops distinguishing between the two.

Real life begins to feel like the waiting room between scrolling sessions.

This changes more than we realise.

It affects our careers because deep work becomes painful. The mind that has been trained to consume fifteen-second videos struggles to focus on a task for thirty uninterrupted minutes. We confuse being busy online with actually making progress offline.

It affects our relationships because we’re physically present but mentally elsewhere. Instead of fully listening, we’re waiting for the next notification. Instead of creating memories, we’re thinking about capturing content. Instead of connecting with people, we’re consuming people.

It affects our happiness because we’re constantly measuring our lives against a world that was never meant to be real. Every promotion looks smaller than someone else’s. Every vacation feels less exciting. Every achievement is quickly overshadowed by another person’s highlight.

And perhaps the greatest loss is this:

We stop being comfortable with our own minds.

Silence becomes uncomfortable.

Waiting becomes unbearable.

Boredom feels like a problem to solve instead of a space where creativity, reflection, and genuine ideas are born.

The irony is that Instagram promises connection, but often leaves us feeling more disconnected—from ourselves, from others, and from reality.

I’m not arguing that Instagram is evil or that everyone should delete it tomorrow.

The real danger isn’t the app.

It’s when the app becomes our default reality.

When the first thing we do after waking up is enter Instagram’s world, and the last thing we do before sleeping is return to it, we slowly start living more inside an algorithm than inside our own lives.

The question isn’t how many hours you spend on Instagram.

The better question is:

When you’re not scrolling, do you still feel like you’re living?

If the answer is no, then maybe it’s time to step outside the feed.

Because your real life isn’t waiting inside Instagram.

It’s waiting outside it.

The more connected I became online, the more disconnected I felt from my own life.

We’ve all seen the phrase “Live, Love, Laugh” on mugs, pillows, wall art, and home decor. It’s so common that most of us don’t even stop to think about what it actually means.

Is it simply telling us to live our lives, love ourselves, and laugh often? Or does it carry a deeper message—to live fully because life is short, love the people around us, and find joy even during difficult times?

The more I thought about it, the more curious I became. Such a simple quote seems to hold different meanings for different people. So, I decided to search for its meaning online. What I found was interesting: there isn’t just one interpretation. Instead, the phrase can be understood in many ways, depending on your perspective.

This what google told me about Live, Love and Laugh:-

Taken together, the phrase suggests a balanced way of living:

• Live with intention.

• Love with openness.

• Laugh with gratitude and resilience.

From a philosophical perspective, you could also interpret it this way:

After reading its meaning, one question kept coming to my mind: Can we really live by this quote in real life?

One day, everyone is talking about one trend, and within days—or even hours—something completely different takes its place.

Our lives have become just as fast-paced. We’re constantly trying to keep up with new technology, changing careers, endless notifications, and the pressure to always do more. In a world that rarely slows down, the simple idea of living, loving, and laughing almost feels unrealistic.

So, how do we actually practice it?

Maybe the quote isn’t asking us to escape this busy world. Instead, it’s reminding us not to lose ourselves in it. Live by being present instead of constantly worrying about what’s next. Love by making time for the people who matter, even when life gets busy. And laugh by allowing yourself to enjoy the small moments, even when everything around you feels chaotic.

Life will always bring stress due to social pressure and responsibilities , setbacks, and uncertainty. Laughter isn’t about ignoring problems, it’s about refusing to let them define your entire perspective.

Humour allows us to:

• Recover from mistakes.

• Stay resilient under pressure.

• Remember that many worries are temporary.

• Smile more, you only got this one life do not spend on sulking

P.S. Years from now, you probably won’t remember every deadline, trend, or update. But you’ll remember the people you loved(specially your family and friends), the moments you truly lived, and the times you laughed without holding back.
