Today’s lesson came directly from something I’ve been working through in my own business this week. I have spent entirely too much time ending workdays focused on everything I DIDN’T finish while barely acknowledging the mountain of stuff I actually accomplished. Yesterday, I finally decided I needed a more accurate picture, so I started using ChatGPT to help me track what I was getting done throughout the day.

Turns out, I needed a reality check. 😂

Mini Lesson

Have you ever worked all day, finally sat down at night, and immediately started thinking about everything you didn’t get done?

Because SAME.

Somehow I can complete ten things, leave three unfinished, and my brain wants to hold an emergency meeting about the three. 😂

Yesterday I decided to start paying closer attention to what my days actually look like instead of relying on how productive I felt at the end of them.

That distinction matters because feelings aren’t always very good data.

Here’s something I want you to try.

✨ Keep a DONE list for one full workday. Every time you finish something, write it down. Include the little stuff too because answering emails, researching something, fixing a problem, organizing products, communicating with brands, updating links, and handling administrative work ARE work.

✨ Notice the invisible tasks. Content creation has a ridiculous amount of work attached to it that nobody sees. A video might be 30 seconds long, but researching, filming, editing, writing captions, linking products, posting, responding to comments, and checking analytics certainly didn’t take 30 seconds.

✨ Compare what you planned with what actually happened. Don’t use that information to beat yourself up. Look at it like data. Were you genuinely distracted all day, or did your original list contain twelve hours of work for an eight hour day?

That last question is where things started getting REALLY interesting for me.

Yesterday wasn’t just about proving to myself that I was accomplishing more than I thought.

Seeing the full picture started showing me something much bigger.

My expectations needed adjusting.

And THAT is what we’re digging into in the full lesson.

Today’s lesson is about something I didn’t realize was creating SO much unnecessary stress in my business until I finally started doing something about it. As creators, we’re expected to remember content ideas, samples, deadlines, campaigns, newsletters, brand contacts, storefront updates, financial stuff, daily tasks, videos that need editing, products that need filming, and approximately 937 other things at any given moment. 😂

For WAY too long, I was trying to store a ridiculous amount of that information in my head.

Turns out, my brain is a great place to CREATE my business. It’s a terrible place to STORE it.

Have you ever been sitting on the couch at 9:30 at night and suddenly thought, “CRAP. I was supposed to film that sample today.”

Or remembered an email you needed to send while you’re standing in the shower?

Maybe you’ve opened your phone to do one thing, noticed a notification, answered a message, checked TikTok, somehow ended up on Amazon, and twenty minutes later realized you never did the original thing. 😂

That was happening to me WAY too often.

My first suggestion is ridiculously simple. Get it out of your head.

Grab a piece of paper, open a blank document, or use whatever works best for you and brain dump EVERYTHING you’re currently trying to remember for your business. Don’t organize it yet. Your only job is to get it out.

Once that’s done, look through the mess and start grouping things together. Content belongs with content. Samples belong with samples. Money stuff gets its own category. Brand work, newsletters, campaigns, storefronts, and whatever else you’re juggling can each have a home too.

Already feel a little lighter?

THAT is the beginning of building a system.

Getting everything out of your head is step one. Creating a system you’ll actually continue using is where things get REALLY interesting.

Sometimes that isn’t the problem at all.

Sometimes...it’s simply August.

If you’re in affiliate marketing, retail, or another online business, this time of year can feel incredibly frustrating.

June and July usually slow down, then August often feels like someone hit the brakes even harder. I’ve watched this happen enough times now that it doesn’t surprise me anymore.

Instead of trying to force busy season energy into a naturally slower month, I choose to shift my focus.

Pick one project you’ve been putting off because life has been too hectic. Maybe your storefronts need cleaned up. Maybe your office has become more stressful than inspiring. Perhaps you’ve been talking about creating a digital product but haven’t made the time to sit down and build it.

Keep posting.

Keep showing up.

Just don’t convince yourself that working yourself into exhaustion is somehow the answer.

This past week reminded me that no matter how organized we are, life will always have the final say sometimes.

My son and daughter in law were in town visiting for several days. Right after that, I had to deal with a stressful legal hearing that took far more mental energy than I expected.

Going into the week, I honestly believed I could juggle everything and still keep up with work like normal.

Spoiler alert...

I couldn’t.

Looking back, I should have prepared better instead of expecting myself to operate at one hundred percent through all of it.

Here’s what I’d encourage you to do when life gets hectic.

✨ Start by asking yourself what truly needs your attention today. Not everything has to be caught up immediately.

✨ Give yourself permission to let some things go. Missing a few posts is a lot less damaging than running yourself into the ground trying to make up for every single one.

Over the past couple of weeks, I noticed something wasn’t right.

Creating content felt harder.

Simple tasks were taking longer.

My motivation was disappearing.

At first, I blamed myself.

Then I looked around my office.

Samples were stacked everywhere. Boxes were piling up. Products I’d already reviewed were still sitting on shelves because I never took the time to donate them. Every surface had become a place to set “just one more thing.”

It finally hit me.

My office wasn’t inspiring me anymore.

It was exhausting me.

Here are two things you can do today that made an immediate difference for me.

✨ Pick one surface and clear it completely. Don’t worry about the entire room. Give yourself one clean space where your brain can breathe.

✨ Create three piles: Keep, Donate, and Trash. If you haven’t used something in months and it isn’t serving your business anymore, let it bless someone else.

Those two simple steps completely changed how I felt walking into my office.

Twice this week, work handed me opportunities I’d never faced before.

Both required me to speak in front of a LIVE audience.

Was I excited?

Absolutely.

Was I terrified?

Also absolutely.

Here’s what I’ve learned about myself over the years.

The longer I wait, the scarier it becomes.

If I tell myself I’ll think about it tomorrow, my brain immediately starts writing worst case scenarios. By the time tomorrow gets here, I’ve usually talked myself out of something that could have been incredible.

Try this the next time an opportunity scares you.

✨ Give yourself a time limit to make a decision. Don’t let fear have three days to build a case against you.

✨ Ask one simple question: “Will saying yes help me grow?” If the answer is yes, don’t let discomfort make the decision for you.

Sometimes the biggest breakthrough isn’t a huge viral moment.

Sometimes it’s a tiny notification.

Recently, I was checking one of my affiliate dashboards and noticed something that made me stop in my tracks.

I had earned my very first commission from Instagram.

Do you know what generated it?

An Instagram Story.

That one little commission told me something much bigger than the dollar amount.

It told me people are watching.

It told me people are clicking.

And most importantly, it told me I need to keep showing up there.

One result doesn’t mean you stop.

One result means you’ve found something worth repeating.

Welcome to Social Media Tip Tuesday.

Each week, I share a practical lesson I’ve learned while building an online business through content creation, affiliate marketing, storefronts, brand partnerships, and social media.

The goal isn’t to teach complicated marketing theories. It’s to share real-world lessons, mistakes, wins, and observations from someone actively doing the work.

One of the fastest ways to make sure people ignore you online is to join a Facebook group and immediately start promoting yourself.

I see this happen all the time.

Someone joins a community and before anybody knows who they are, they’re posting links to a storefront, sharing an affiliate offer, advertising a coaching program, or trying to get members to sign up for something.

A few days later they come back and do it again.

What makes it awkward isn’t the promotion itself. Every business owner promotes. Every creator promotes. That’s part of the job.

The awkward part is expecting strangers to care.

Most people don’t join groups hoping to discover a random person they’ve never interacted with. They join because they have a question, need advice, want recommendations, or are looking for others with similar interests.

In other words, they’re there for the community.

The promotional post usually misses that point entirely.

Years ago, this approach worked better because online communities were smaller and less crowded. Today, group owners have become much more protective of the audiences they’ve spent years building.

Many communities limit promotional content. Others reserve specific days for sharing offers. Some have eliminated self-promotion altogether.

Honestly, I don’t blame them.

Building an engaged group takes time, consistency, and effort. Nobody wants to spend years creating a valuable community only to watch it turn into a digital flea market.

The rules aren’t really the issue, though.

The real lesson has nothing to do with what group admins allow.

Work was getting done.

Projects were moving.

Opportunities kept showing up.

From the outside, things probably looked fine.

Inside my own head? Not so much.

Every day felt like a race from one responsibility to the next. By bedtime, I was exhausted, yet somehow still convinced I hadn’t accomplished enough.

At first, I blamed my schedule.

Then I blamed my systems.

For a little while, I even convinced myself I needed another planner.

Turns out, none of those things were the real issue.

The answer was sitting right in front of me the entire time.

I was trying to make everything a priority.

Substack.

TikTok.

YouTube.

Storefronts.

Affiliate marketing.

Brand partnerships.

Future projects.

Ideas I hadn’t even started yet.

Looking at that list now, it’s almost funny.

Almost.

The break forced me to take an honest look at what was actually moving the needle in my business and what was simply keeping me busy.

What I discovered completely changed how I’m approaching content creation, growth, and where I’m investing my time moving forward.
