From Picasso, Matisse and Miró famously exchanging artwork for hotel stays in the 20th century, to today’s chefs with signature dishes and in-house restaurants, in-room playlists with wonderful musicians and designer brands curating bespoke suites, merch collections, pop-up events and experiences, the worlds of hospitality and art have always crossed paths.

Some make perfect sense. Some feel a little forced. And then there are the rare ones where two creative worlds blend so beautifully that you wonder how they were ever separate in the first place.

This is one of those.

Hidden away in the pristine Swiss Alps, Drei Berge Hotel is the kind of place that feels less like a hotel and more like someone’s incredibly well-curated imagination brought to life.

The brainchild of creative director Ramdane Touhami, every single touchpoint has been delivered with creative precision. Nothing is random. Everything is fascinating.

The level of detail is slightly obsessive. And that’s exactly the point!

Which makes what happened next even more interesting.

When Touhami was creating Drei Berge, he made a very unusual decision. Out of the hotel’s 19 rooms, two would be left completely untouched. Blank canvases.

These would become the only design collaboration in the entire hotel and there was only one creative duo he trusted to bring them to life.

Enter Emily Adams Bode Aujla and Aaron Aujla , the couple behind New York fashion label BODE and design studio Green River Project.

Fittingly, they were also the very first guests to stay at Drei Berge.

Named after champion racehorses Buckpasser and US Top 10, the two suites tell the story of two fictional rival equestrian trainers. One room is blue, the other yellow, and both feel like you’ve wandered into a beautifully strange film set somewhere high in the Swiss mountains.

While the rest of the hotel embraces a traditional Alpine aesthetic, these rooms bring in BODE’s unmistakable Americana.

Dark timber panelling wraps around the walls and ceilings, showcasing Green River Project’s incredible craftsmanship. Vintage horse-show ribbons, jockey silks and equestrian trophies create a sense of nostalgia, while bespoke monogrammed linen and cushions take inspiration from mid-century American horse blankets, with each champion’s name embroidered into the fabric. Curated vintage furniture and custom textiles complete the spaces, creating a warm, eccentric world of their own.

On paper, Alpine Switzerland and American equestrian nostalgia might not seem like obvious partners. But that’s exactly why the collaboration is so, so good.

The BODE suites debuted in 2024, however unions like this built on creativity, curiosity, storytelling and a genuine respect for craft are timeless.

Here are a few other delightful and impressive things you might not know about Drei Berge behind the Wes Anderson-esque, green-painted exterior;

• The lobby features a huge hand-painted mural hidden amongst historic mountain flags - a subtle nod to David Lynch’s Twin Peaks.

• Touhami has a strict no-plastic philosophy, which is why the bathroom products are housed in vintage-style aluminium tubes with heavy metal caps.

• The hotel’s lounges feature oversized posters celebrating the fictional “Anarcho Mountaineers”a rebellious climbing club created to playfully challenge traditional Alpine culture.

• The custom carpets aren’t just decorative patterns; they’re inspired by the contour lines found on Swiss topographic maps.

• None of the 19 rooms have televisions. Instead, guests are encouraged to look out at the mountains, pick up a book, or simply experience where they are.

• Every room is named after a famous mountain peak rather than a number.

• Even the morning coffee has been considered, served in porcelain cups (you definitely want to steal) sourced from Arita, Japan.

The hotel is currently undergoing renovations and is slated to reopen with a new fully vegetarian and wellness-focused concept at the end of 2026. Shifting from a traditional alpine lodge to a dedicated well-being retreat. The design footprint and the BODE rooms will be preserved. Stay tuned in via their channels for this!

Twenty years ago, my girlfriends and I started a monthly lunch. It was a reason to check in, catch up, dress up and, back then, do things our daughters will never (ever) know about... This gathering of glittery souls, from restaurant to dance floor and beyond, became known as MUNCH (Monthly Lunch).

As time went on, we had kids, some moved overseas, changed jobs, lifestyles and husbands…but we still managed to catch up, albeit just once a year. The theme? 1976 Après-Ski.

The brief? was simple: NEVER break theme for three days straight, yes even at the airport.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.

The hardest part is not doing it, it’s doing it alone.

Most people come into Room Service thinking it’s just about creating a space.

Sometimes it’s large scale - reimagining an old motel.

Sometimes it’s smaller - renovating a spare room, redesigning a studio, or refurbing an old dairy into guest accommodation - something they want to rent out or turn into something beautiful.

And yes, it is that.

But it’s also something else.

A lot of the people I work with are doing this on their own.

They’ve had an idea sitting there for a while.

They’ve maybe started a mood board, picked out paint swatches… stopped… changed their mind… gone quiet on it.

Not because they’re not capable. Just because it’s actually quite hard to keep moving when it’s just you.

No one to run things past. No one to say “that works” or “maybe try this instead.”

No one to keep you accountable in a gentle way.

So things drift.

That’s a big part of why I run Room Service the way I do.

As well as video learning modules and intimate interviews with the pros - we meet every Tuesday for an hour. It’s not formal. You can bring whatever you’re working through, or nothing at all some weeks.

We’re creating space together.

To think things through out loud, make decisions a bit more easily and have a good giggle. And things start to move. Projects become unstuck and the “crazy ideas” become real.

People start backing themselves. I love witnessing that shift!

In 2019, my husband convinced me to take every dollar we had and, with our business partners, buy a 120-year-old pub in the rolling hills of the Rainbow Region. We had two kids under three, a head full of big dreams, and absolutely no safety net.

While the boys threw themselves into the bar and food side of the business, I turned my attention upstairs to the five old rooms above the pub! At first, I approached it the safe way: subtle colour changes, identical rooms, neat and tidy. But it felt so flat. Then I started meeting the Eltham locals, hearing their stories and suddenly the walls actually started talking!

Five rooms.

Five women.

Five completely different lives.

Each story began to shape every decision - the colours, the objects, the mood of each space. I knew each character intimately their habits, their quirks… even what they ate for breakfast! Looking back now, it was truly a dream brief, which simultaneously grew my passion for the next part of my career journey.

Storytelling in design is my lifeblood. I personally don’t know how to design a space without it (or marketplace ;).

In late 2026 I sold a hotel. Straight afterwards I sat down and wrote a course. I did this because I wanted to share first hand what I learnt, the up’s, the down’s and the moments when I questioned why I had done this in the first place.

Building and curating a space which is built for experiences - places where people come together to celebrate, to dine, to sleep, for solitude, for romance or for pure joy it excites me so much. Today, I am splitting at the seams with excitement ~ ROOM SERVICE is something that has been a long time in the making. Sparked by travel, and the chance to experience those unique spaces that etch a place in your memory bank and give you a feeling like no other… I originally started The Vista to share those feelings. I’ve now started Room Service to bring those feelings to life. 

Our adventures in hospitality with some great business partners have allowed me to gain so much incredible insider knowledge. Having been in this world for over a decade I wanted to create a space where I could gather those learnings ~ the highs, the lows and everything in between and now it’s time to share them. 

In June, I hosted a small ‘Room Service’ event at Sun Ranch hosting lovely people from all over Australia and New Zealand. We had the most wonderful time, and I worked with this group of people to peel back layers of their project and unleash their hidden creativity, which was SO beautiful to witness.

Fast forward a few more months - the idea began to grow and morph. Eventually, I returned to the page, and those once-wild thoughts have grown into something even bigger…and incredibly fun!
