The world’s in dire need of what we have, but we’re busy sapping where we should be supplying. If you’re reading this, GET TO WORK! Don’t trade excellence for mediocrity, but don’t mistake excellence for perfection; and don’t let that be the excuse that fosters procrastination in your creative journey.

Work hard, write more, rest more, live more, go out more and enjoy each day, because even if the days of the weeks seem to recycle themselves, guess what? We can never ever get today back again! The constant thing about calendars is that we can actually see that no day, no week, no month and no year repeats itself. That’s why we grow older with every passing second.

So, why not publish your writings and empty your drafts. If one person is inspired by them, isn’t that such a huge win?! If we can’t cater and be faithful to 1 subscriber, how are we going to show up time & time again for thousands? I need you to get right with yourself and put pen to paper (or as we say in this digital age, put finger to keyboard).

Let me share something most people often overlook, every creative writes and everyone reads. One way or the other, it still comes down to writing and publishing. So, start that Substack, post that publication and let the world benefit from your creative mind, today!

Most people may have experienced this dilemma once or twice in their creative journeys. We’ve all had moments where we ghost our communities and don’t know how to come back. In most cases, communicating our reemergence feels so awkward. How do we integrate ourselves and regain the trust of our communities without feeling like frauds?

One of the best ways that helps me, is to be honest and open, by telling the story of the season I’m in. There are times when we’re all gassed out and drained. There are seasons where we’re literally battling for dear life and we can’t keep pace with the world in those moments. There are days when I’m going through family crisis and literal life and death situations; most times I show up like all’s well in the world, but there are times when I’m too tired to show up for anyone else (including myself) asides my immediate family.

The problem a lot of people have is that we really don’t want to open up to the communities we’re stewarding. There’s a subconscious wiring in our minds that always wants to make us show up looking like the finished product; and we fail to realize that the real stories that endear people closer to us are in the stories about our processes, our successes, our failed attempts, our insecurities and our flaws. It’s the genuineness of openness that makes communication seamless. So next time you’re overthinking how to stage a comeback with your audience, just write to them from your heart and let them in a little bit more into your life, rather than always trying to put up a perfect front for them.

Vulnerability doesn’t have the luxury of filters and image enhancers. Giving your community access to you, gives you access to your community, through empathy, understanding and relatability. Stop overthinking that post you’ve been staring at for the past 2 weeks and hit that publish button now!

The lies we tell ourselves when it comes to creating content, boarders between convenience and procrastination. “Later” always seems to be a better time to write or to post. Setting up that ring light seems like a chore now, so “later” might be more appropriate “when I’m in the mood”.

Convenience has always been a supporting cast in the world of procrastination. We have this mindset that when things are more “aligned”, that’s when we’d be at our best creative state. And as convenient as that sounds, life doesn’t play by our rules. I too am guilty of pushing things forward just because I’m not in the mood, but when we see our creativity as an assignment rather than a convenience, we’d take it more seriously and labour to do all that we’re inspired to do, in order to add our quota to the development and betterment of humanity.

In a world where we’ve reduced ‘content creation’ to TikTok videos and Instagram reels, it’s important to find our true identities in the ecosystem of creativity. As long as you’re producing something educational, entertaining, inspirational and captivating, you’re creating content people can consume. So whether you’re a writer, a singer, a vlogger, a painter, a photographer or even a business person who’s showcasing their works or products online, you’re a content creator and that comes with a lot of responsibility to show up as often as you can for a world that desperately needs your light.

Every now & again, I encounter writers who struggle to write and publish their writings consistently. Not ‘cos they can’t write or struggle with what to write about, but because they’re fixated on perfection rather than excellence.

When perfection stops us from expression, then perfection becomes the enemy of our progress. There’s a huge difference between perfection and excellence.

There’s nothing wrong in wanting to be perfect, but perfection can never be gotten, because it’s a mirage that keeps us journeying to a destination that can never be reached. If I wanted perfection, I’d never send out this letter at 3 am in the morning. I’d edit and re-edit until I’m frustrated. Perfection strives to control the narrative. Excellence helps us set, maintain and raise our standards of expression every time we show up.

Every time we overthink writing and publishing, we’re putting the cart before the horse; because we’re trying to control how people perceive us, rather than bask in the freedom of expression that excellence allows and create with or without clarity. I woke up to a reminder of a daily devotional I was meant to have completed by April 2023 and something in me broke loose; rather than beat myself up for procrastinating and forgetting to do it year after year, I decided to do something about it. I designed the cover image!

Prolonged procrastination prolongs procrastination. The next best time to do something you were meant to do previously, is now! Why wait any longer when you can add a drop of water, sweat or blood to the ocean you envision. It isn’t difficult to execute that project you’ve projected doing, what’s difficult is you not prioritizing your vision.

We often lie to ourselves that we’d make out time for the things we plan on doing, but the truth is, if we truly wanted to make out time to do them, we would. We have time! No matter how busy we are, we’re not too busy to go out with friends once in a while, surf the internet, watch our favourite Netflix series and even chat with that special someone whose got us all tingly inside. We have time! We just don’t want to spend the time we have investing ourselves, our emotions, our strengths and our brainpower into the things we know we ought to do. It could be from a lack of foresight, where we don’t quite know the gravity of the weight of responsibility that’s resting on our willingness to obey our gutt instincts; and sometimes, it could just be that we don’t care much about serving others. “If this thing I’m meant to pour out my entire heart and life into doesn’t benefit me immediately and financially, why bother?”

The inconsistencies of inconsistency have grave consequences that ripple its effects down the pipeline of generations yet unborn. To be great is to be a great servant of humanity and that means stewarding the gifts GOD has given us, to help inspire other people across generations become all that GOD has created them to be. So why are you still stalling what’s meant to be bearing fruit in people’s lives? What’s your excuse this time?!

What’s going to go wrong if we just take a few minutes to write down the thoughts, ideas & conversations we have in our heads and hit the publish button? I’ll tell you what’s going to happen; someone’s going to be inspired & blessed.

It doesn’t take much to do much. What often keeps us bound and chained to our fear of being seen, is our ability to over think every little thing; and as important as creative thinking is, don’t be the dam that blocks the flow of inspiration from you to others.

By schedule, this letter was meant to have been published on Saturday by 9am (West African Time), but how important is it that it gets published now, because for someone reading this, this is so timely and spot-on. Maybe by Saturday, you wouldn’t have seen this in time and the timely opportunity to pour into you would’ve been missed. And guess what; by Saturday, it’s still going to be online and might even have a greater chance of being seen by more people who really need this jolt of inspiration. So get writing and hit that publish button! The worse thing that can happen is that you finally find the hack to defeating procrastination in your life, schedule or not.

The more you express yourself, the better you’re able to express yourself even more. There are no shortcuts to writing. There are techniques that can aide you in becoming a better writer, but whatever you don’t practise will eventually begin to depreciate over time.

Skills are meant to be put to good use. A good driver is someone who drives regularly and adjusts accordingly. A great swimmer is someone who swims almost everyday and gains better understanding of how to manipulate the movement of their body in water. A good writer...

There’s no separating being consistent & committed and being better at anything. No matter how long I fantasise about being a better reader; if I don’t read more consistently and commit to it daily, I won’t become a better reader. Heck, I’d become more of a slow learner because reading helps us assimilate much faster over time. Reading helps us write better and helps us become better expressers of our thoughts, emotions & ideas; but if we don’t write more and more consistently, we won’t become better writers. We’d only become better procrastinators 😢

Consistency is a commitment to impact. When we place value on our contributions through writing and any other form of creativity we possess, we’re more likely to show up more frequently than we would have without a solid commitment to impacting people’s lives.

One of the hacks to consistency is aligning your gifts with purpose. Without purpose, there’s no genuine commitment to a cause; and even when there’s a sincere drive & desire to want to show up, purpose is that one thing that’ll fuel your passion beyond your desires.

Why do you write? Who does your writings enrich and benefit? Some people write to free themselves from certain pressures of life, others write to educate or tell a story. Some write to show of their literary skills...and that’s beautiful, but when we find & attach purpose to our writings, it makes it a ministry. It makes it something we are committed to doing—whether we like it or not...whether we’re in the mood or not. Writing is almost never convenient, but when we push ourselves beyond comfort, that’s when the best of us emerges. That’s when our true light comes to light.

What if you treated your writing journey like you treat your brand new iPhone—with gentleness and great care. What if you took ample time to look at your writings everyday and bask in the beauty of your work. What if you charged yourself up with inspiration & intentionality, like you do your phone before you step out for the day. What if you just paid more attention to your creative side, rather than leaving it to chance.

There's something about purpose that gives clarity to everything you do. What if your writing added value to your purpose. What if you actually stayed consistent? Again, your why determines how much you're willing to pursue something and invest in it. Why not invest time & resources in your writing journey? Just like a gym subscription—investing in becoming a better writer will definitely work out!

Writing is both an art and a skill. It's something that's both inherent and can be learnt. Writing isn't hard. It's just that people downplay their gravitas before they even pen down an idea.

You don't have to be Chimamanda to hold that kind of sway when it comes to the effect your writings can have on a people and on a generation. You just need to back yourself. Like my friend Salem King would say, "your story counts!".

Place value on your worth by writing that article or newsletter. Publish that book! Why are you scared? Investigate your fears honestly and see if it's because you're afraid of opening up yourself to the world or because you're low-key comfortable being in the shadows. No one who ever did something great in life, did it haphharzadly. You've got to own it and call those things that are not as though they were! If you don't back yourself as being the greatest writer the world has ever seen, no one's gonna see it. I can't believe in you more than you believe in yourself; and even if I do, I can't force you to push yourself beyond your elasticity limits if you're comfortable being mid. Take this as a timely intervention to take your writing seriously. Stop treating it as a side hobby. You can't imagine how much the world needs your intellect. How do I navigate physical & mental fatigue when I’m pursuing consistency in my writing journey? Simple; write through the tiredness & the exhaustion! It's easy to get carried away by the tides of life and with the vicissitudes that spring forth unannounced, but even that in itself (as legitimate as that is), isn't sufficient enough to keep you from meeting your writing goals.

Physical & mental exhaustions are the worse things to ever happen to a writer, because it can lead to writer's block and even emotional breakdowns; but there's always light at the end of every tunnel.

Write in patches! You don't need to bulk write or speed write all at once. Take it one sentence at a time—one paragraph at a time and before you know it, you've got yourself something really worth sharing. That's how this letter was assembled...one paragraph at a time, and in less than no time if I may add. Writing is a really great outlet for destressing, but it can be overwhelming when you don't have a strategy to execute it or know where to begin. Who else feels like a fraud when it's time to share something you know a lot about, but think it's too little to be an expert in? Who else feels you must've had at least 10 years experience before you're qualified to talk about something?

Let me tell you something; you don't need to be a master of something to be able to host a masterclass. All you need is your side of the story! Whether it's the beginning of your journey or the middle of it, you're more than qualified to tell your own story. And that's really important!

People who wait to the end of their journeys to tell their side of the story, are true legends. But so are you! Every aspect of your journey is as important as the end results, because not everyone gets to the end of their sojourns. There'll always be people who can relate with where you currently are in your trajectory and it's important that you share your wealth of knwledge through storytelling, because not everyone has the privilege of time to wait a lifetime to read & hear your side of the story. Sometimes, telling a story from the end of a journey disconnects people from the processes involved in embarking on that journey. That's why someone starting out a journey will resonate more with someone who's also starting out & heading into theirs.

Don't hold back on account that you feel like you're not qualified to share your experiences with the world. That fact that you're alive is an experience worth sharing. Don't cheat the world of something truly valuable and remarkable. You've got a part to play in shaping people's perspectives, but you have to start by sharing what you know and have experienced, in order to gain more clarity on what's ahead—for you.

Those agonizing thoughts that cascade our minds when we've missed a publishing deadline, are the worse! For me, I always feel like fraud, but I’m learning to give myself grace and move past the self-pity and guilt-tripping. To some, it might seem like it's not that deep, but the truth is that it hurts more than a bandaid being ripped off a fresh wound. It sucks to miss a deadline. It cuts deep!

I've missed countless deadlines for numerous reasons, but one thing I try to do afterwards is to forgo every excuse and publish, no matter what! I'm very meticulous about these things—some would say I've got writing OCD, but if you ask me, I just like having structures to the things that matter most to me; one of such things being how I delight in sharing premium quality value to the various communities I convene.

Being plagued with so many missed deadlines and pending publications can be very overwhelming & disheartening. It takes a lot to get going again, especially when we feel like we've let a lot of people down by not showing-up like we promised; but just like a child learning to walk, all you need to do when you miss a deadline is to go again! Don't wait until your next publishing cycle to share that post. Don't wait for when it's convenient before you hit that publish button. Put out that content and allow your creativity run its course. You're more than a writer or a publisher...you're an inspiration to this generation and that’s huge! Keep at it & don't stop, even when life gets tough. You never know who’s waiting in line to read your writings. You might just be the inspiration the next world-changer needs to kickstart their journey of transoformation & to fulfill destiny. Hope this encourages you to publish that draft this weekend. Don’t procrastinate! Just publish!!!

If we only knew how much our writings bring healing to the people who read them 🥹; those same write-ups we often second guess and hesitate to publish...yes, those ones! They mean more to the people who read (need) them, than to us who are inspired to write them.

I'm always stunned when people tell me that they're subscribed to my newsletter publication 'With Love, From Love'. I'm awestruck because I know how much I struggle to share those intimate love letters I've been writing & publishing on Substack week in week out since March 15th 2020, when the entire world was on lockdown, fighting sadness, depression & uncertainty. I quiver whenever people message me, telling me they needed to hear what I had written and published (what I had reluctantly shared with the world because in my head, "no one needs this crap"). Our written words have voices & the power to project beyond boarders; and it's important we find our writing voices & speak more clearly to a world who desperately needs to hear us. I talk about this in more detail, in my new book; "A Guide To Writing & Publishing".

What you have to offer the world might seem small to you, but they're huge to the hundreds of thousands of people that will come across it; and potentially millions & millions more! A simple letter, that book you've been procrastinating to write & publish, that journal entry you chose to share with the world relunctantly, could just be the final piece to the puzzle someone needs to piece their lives back together. There's nothing you have that's minute and inconsequential. Every seed of inspiration you sow into people's lives, has the potential to bud and blossom into a mighty forest 🌴. So don't stop on account that the numbers you predicted aren't adding up, or because you aren't receiving enough engagements on your publications. At the end of the day, it's not about you. It's about the countless lives you can inspire by showing up consistently & regularly, as often as you can.

The reason you're very lackadesical about writing is because you think it's all about you. You think it starts and ends with you, so you're more self-conscious about how people will perceive you through your writings. You think people will get to see through you and you don't want to give anyone access into how your mind works. Right?!

Isn't that selfish and wicked of you? Don't you enjoy reading other people’s writings and spending time journeying on the waves of their thoughts when you read their works? Aren't you even ashamed that you're taking & taking and taking from the world and not giving anything back in return? Why are you like this? Why are you covering up your bad character under the banner of shyness and lack of time?!

Do better! Aren't you tired of babying your laziness and your lack of enthusiasm about your writings? You're an amazing writer! I know, because you have really great intelligent conversations with your friends & with strangers and you have valid opinions. So why not transcribe those thoughts into written words and share them with a world that desperately needs your input. If you enjoy reading other people's content, why then do you think people won't enjoy reading what you have to write?! Stop that nonsense about you not being reader-worthy. That's false humility & pride!

Today, we're ending this charade of guising our inadequacies with "I'm too shy" or "I'm too busy" to write; and not just write, but publish publicly what you've written. If this offends you, good! It's meant to provoke a response. So use this energy to clear out your drafts and schedule your next post. I believe in you and I hope you do too!

I didn't write as much as I'd have loved to this past week. I was overwhelmed with so much happening in my life that I desperately sought after sleep, but couldn't find it.

I tried to pen down my thoughts, but like a bullet train, I couldn't catch all that was transpiring in my head. I kept dozing in and out of consciousness, until I came to a point of total surrender, where everything I'd hoped to achieve, became like vapour — unsubstantiated and frustratingly so.

I'm writing about my writing adventures, at 2am in the morning, to show how writing (or the lack thereof) can be moulded into something beautiful and inspiring. For some, writer's block is a hindrance. For me, it's a source of inspiration because every block is a brick I can use to build new stories. This week, I just wanted to be silent. I wanted to bask in my own company and not pour out myself unmeasured. Writing can be a way of escape, but it can also be a trap door that seals us in a prison of our own making. Every aspect of a writer's journey is beautiful, even the ugly detours. So keep writing! Don't stop because it doesn't seem convenient. Capturing your lack of inspiration can just be the inspiration someone needs to read, in order to overcome the fear of publishing theirs. We've all got a role to play in inspiring one another. So don’t let the pursuit of perfection deprive someone else from learning off your experiences.

Writing can be most effective when we manage our time properly. Taking 30 minutes everyday to pen down our ideas, can be most helpful because we don't overload our minds, our time and ourselves with the pressures of trying to figure out what to write and when to write it, amidst our overbearing schedules.

You'd be so shocked how much ground you'd have covered within a week, a month...a year. Writing isn't difficult. Managing our time is. Here's what works for me and something I'm also applying daily as well. Have 30 minutes in everyday where you get to sit down with your thoughts and pour out all that's on your heart within that timeframe; and when the time's up, stop and look forward to the next day's session. That way, you'd always look forward to your writing time and you'll always have something to write about because subconsciously, you'd have been meditating on what you wrote and what you'd like to add to that train-of-thought. One of the most inspiring things about writing, is knowing that someone someday in some distant era will stumble upon your writings and find pleasure in the wisdom you shared — from a place of indecision, indecisiveness and insecurity.

Who told you Shakespeare knew he'd be studied in universities hundreds of years after his publications first surfaced? What makes you think you aren't greater than Shakespeare? Who told you that your opinions don't matter in the greater ecosystem of humanity's evolution?

There's something in you that's greater than words can describe. There's so much wisdom in you that needs to be shared with this generation, and with others to come. There's so much wealth of experience you've garnered over the years that's unique to you, and that the world needs to become whole. There's so much power in your story, if only you'd be brave enough to share and to keep sharing. There's no such thing as oversharing! You can tell the same story over & over and over again; and every time you tell it, it gets better & you get better at sharing it. Every time you share your story, you gain a new follower, a new reader, a new subscriber…a new mentee. So don't cheat the world by keeping your stories to yourself. I for one would love to read your stories and gain knowledge from them. So don't you dare shy away from imparting the world with your knowledge. Your stories don't have to be perfectly put together. They're perfect just the way they are — authentically so!

Talk about being consistently inconsistent with trying to be consistent in a time where consistency (or the lack thereof), is raw currency. I've been so overwhelmed with life that the desire to keep up has been everything but desirable.

Take for instance writing prompts. Do you know that in the bid to reply text messages, we end up breaking our word count daily! Like, if we put together all our typed messages in a day, that's more than an article's worth of publication.

So, why do we find it difficult to just sit and write from our hearts? Why do we overthink everything until our natural juices turn stale and begin to ferment? Why do we have heart palpitations when it’s time to hit the publish button? Could it be that our perception of ourselves keeps us from actually being our-selves with our communities? Or maybe we undervalue our ideas and shimmer away from taking responsibility and airing our opinions, no matter how erring they may be sometimes.

Whatever it is, I'm still in the process of letting go and just letting my inspirations flow unhindered. There's so much value in my ideas that I feel quite unsettled shying away from sharing them; and this isn't to promise consistency, but to consistently put in the work that's required to inspire you as often as possible. So pardon the intrusion and forgive my absence.

Who told you, you can't write? Who said you're not good enough to share your experiences and your mind with the world? Who said you aren't good enough? Who ever made you feel like your writings aren't needed in this world? Who made you give up on yourself and on your writing gift? Who made you quit even before you began your writing journey? Who made you say to yourself — with/in your own words that you're not eloquent enough to start a Substack? Who made you feel less than your worth? Who told you your writing aren’t worth reading?

Whoever it is, lied to you! They don't know what they’re talking about. They projected their fears, their insecurities & their insufficiencies on you and you believed them. But I'm here to tell you that you're more than enough...you're more than good enough! I'm here to encourage you to start writing again, to keep writing and to actually share your writings with the world. If you're reading this, you're being blessed by my decision to pen down my thoughts and share them with you. You're being inspired by my ideas, and if I didn't choose to write this down, you won't be reading this and ultimately, you'd still believe that you aren't a good enough writer to inspire someone else.

Pick up your pen, pick up your keypad and start writing! Sometimes, it's not what you plan to write that you'll write; sometimes, it's a surge of inspiration that just flows, and your job is to catch & surf that wave as it comes. I'm writing this letter at 2:47am on Saturday, April 5th 2025 and I didn't plan to write this. I had to pause what I was watching on YouTube (that's totally unrelated to writing or creativity), just so I could convey this timely message to you. Writing is a game changer & a lifesaver, and yours is an important piece to this mosaic called life. So, don't hold back! Don't settle for the version of you that believes you're incapable and unqualified to help others grow through your writings. If you're afraid to fail or too scared of how people might perceive you, just remember that all it takes for you to succeed is to inspire one person, who in turn, they’ll inspire another person and pass it along. Your time starts now!
