When we were younger, adulthood looked simple.

Get a good job.
Earn money.
Buy a house.
Travel.
Get married.
Build a family.

It sounded like freedom.

Nobody told us that freedom comes with responsibilities we couldn’t see coming.

One day, you realize you’re responsible for your career, your money, your future, your family, your relationships and somehow, you’re also expected to look like you have everything figured out.

The funny thing?

Most of us don’t.

We’re just getting better at pretending we do.

And then there is work.

We were told to work hard.

So we did.

We collected experience, chased promotions, changed jobs, learned new skills, stayed late, answered messages after work and tried to become better versions of ourselves.

But somewhere along the way, work stopped being something we do and became part of who we are.

“What do you do?”

It’s often one of the first things we ask someone.

As if a job title can explain an entire human being.

And now AI has entered the room.

Suddenly, some of the things we spent years becoming good at can be automated, accelerated or completely changed.

The fear isn’t necessarily that AI will take every job.

The deeper fear is:

What if the things I spent years learning stop being valuable?

Maybe the answer isn’t competing with AI.

Maybe it’s learning how to work alongside it while becoming more human, better at judgment, communication, empathy, creativity and understanding people.

Because technology can process information.

But understanding a person is still something different.

We are also constantly comparing.

Someone bought a house.

Someone got promoted.

Someone moved abroad.

Someone started a business.

Someone is travelling every month.

Someone got married.

Someone had a baby.

And then there is you, scrolling at 11:47 PM, wondering if you’re somehow falling behind.

Social media has created a strange scoreboard for adulthood.

We don’t know the rules.

We don’t know who is winning.

But somehow, we feel like we’re losing.

We see the holiday, not the credit-card bill.

We see the promotion, not the exhaustion.

We see the new house, not the 20-year loan.

We see the smiling couple, not the difficult conversations after the camera was turned off.

Everyone is carrying something.

Some people are just better at hiding it.

Maybe success needs a new definition.

For years, success meant more.

More money.
More achievements.
More followers.
More possessions.
More recognition.

But maybe success can sometimes mean less.

Less anxiety.

Less comparison.

Less pretending.

Less time doing things that don’t matter to you.

Maybe success is having enough money to sleep peacefully.

Coming home and feeling at peace.

Having people you can call when life gets difficult.

Being proud of your career without allowing it to consume your identity.

Being able to take a day off without feeling guilty.

And being able to say:

“I’m still figuring it out.”

And being okay with that.

Because nobody actually has it figured out.

Not at 25.

Not at 30.

Not at 35.

Maybe not even at 50.

We just become better at living with uncertainty.

That’s what growing up might actually be.

Not finding all the answers.

Learning to live with the questions.

What do I really want?

How much is enough?

Who do I want to become?

What kind of life am I building?

And perhaps the hardest question:

Am I building a life I actually want, or just one that looks good from the outside?

I don’t have all the answers.

I don’t think anyone does.

We make mistakes.

We change careers.

We lose money.

We make money.

We fall in love.

We fight.

We forgive.

We get tired.

We rest.

And somehow, we keep going.

So if you’re somewhere in your 20s, 30s, 40s or beyond, secretly wondering whether everyone else has figured life out except you

they haven’t.

They’re figuring it out too.

Some are just doing it with better lighting.

Maybe adulthood was never supposed to be the chapter where everything finally makes sense.

The keys carried the responsibility of getting everyone home safely.

The phone carried missed calls, work messages, bank notifications, and expectations.

Even the coins carried small decisions.

A cup of tea.

A parking fee.

A toll.

A quick snack between meetings.

By the time he reaches home, his pockets aren’t just full.

So is his mind.

Nobody notices this little ritual.

Because to everyone else...

He’s just emptying his pockets.

But maybe...

He’s also trying to empty the day.

The stress from work.

The conversations he couldn’t finish.

The pressure to earn more.

The worry about next month’s expenses.

The promises he made to his family.

The things he wanted to say but didn’t.

Unfortunately...

Only the objects leave his pockets.

The responsibilities stay.

Tomorrow morning...

The same wallet will go back in.

The same keys.

The same phone.

But they’ll carry a different set of worries.

A different set of expectations.

Another day’s worth of responsibilities.

Maybe that’s why this simple moment feels so familiar.

It reminds us that adulthood isn’t made of grand sacrifices.

It’s made of ordinary routines repeated every single day.

And perhaps the most beautiful part is this

Even after carrying the weight of the world in his pockets...

He still walks inside the house with a smile.

Asking everyone else,

“How was your day?”

Before anyone asks about his.

Maybe that’s why I never see a man emptying his pockets the same way anymore.

Because I don’t just see coins.

Or keys.

Or a wallet.

I see everything he quietly carried before he finally came home.

No office.

No deadlines.

No calls.

Just one day to slow down.

Lately, life had been moving so fast that I simply wanted a few hours of peace.

No plans.

No rush.

Just me and a quiet day.

I woke up thinking it would be exactly that.

Instead, I walked downstairs and found my car.

Three tyres.

Completely punctured.

Not because of bad luck.

Not because of a nail on the road.

Someone had deliberately stabbed them.

Again.

And again.

Six holes in each tyre.

For a few moments, I just stood there.

Trying to understand what I was looking at.

The money wasn't the first thing that came to my mind.

Tyres can be replaced.

Mechanics can be called.

I couldn't even drive the car to the garage, so I called a mechanic home and paid extra just to get everything fixed.

That wasn't the painful part.

The painful part was asking myself...

Why?

What does someone gain from doing something like this?

The parking wasn't mine.

It wasn't theirs either.

It was common parking.

There had been no argument.

No fight.

No misunderstanding.

Just a random act that turned someone else's peaceful morning into a stressful one.

And that's the part I struggle to understand.

Life is already difficult enough.

Everyone is carrying something.

Deadlines.

Family responsibilities.

Financial pressure.

Health issues.

Or maybe they're simply exhausted.

Why would anyone knowingly add one more problem to a stranger's life?

Maybe the person who did it forgot about it within minutes.

I couldn't.

Because that morning wasn't just about three damaged tyres.

It was about a peaceful day that never got a chance to begin.

It made me realise something.

We often underestimate the impact of small actions.

Holding a door open takes a second.

Smiling at someone takes a second.

Helping someone takes a second.

Unfortunately...

So does ruining someone's day.

The difference is that one leaves a memory of kindness.

The other leaves someone wondering what they ever did to deserve it.

The tyres will eventually be replaced.

The money will be earned again.

Another leave can be taken.

Life will move on.

But one question still remains.

What kind of satisfaction comes from making a stranger's day worse?

I genuinely don't know the answer.

Maybe you do.

Mine came from a Fevicol advertisement.

On the surface, it was simple and funny.

A chair assembled with Fevicol kept surviving different owners, different places, and different situations. People came and went, but the chair remained intact because of the strength holding it together.

Most people would probably watch it, smile, and move on.

But I couldn’t stop thinking about the chair.

Not because of Fevicol.

Because of what the chair represented.

If you think about it, a chair is rarely just a chair.

Sometimes it’s authority.

Sometimes it’s inheritance.

Sometimes it’s simply a title people are willing to compete for.

In a family business, a chair can represent legacy.

The seat that everyone assumes will belong to someone one day.

The position that silently carries expectations, competition, and responsibility.

In offices, chairs have a different meaning.

People don’t just work for salaries.

Many are working towards a seat.

A bigger cabin.

A leadership position.

A title next to their name.

Sometimes entire careers become a race towards a chair that only one person can occupy.

And politics?

That’s probably the biggest example.

People spend years trying to secure a seat of power.

Campaigns are built around it.

Relationships change because of it.

Decisions are influenced by it.

Because the chair represents authority.

And humans have always been fascinated by authority.

What interested me about the advertisement was that while everyone focused on who was sitting on the chair…

Fevicol focused on what was holding the chair together.

That’s a lesson we often miss in real life.

We become obsessed with positions.

But rarely think about the foundations supporting those positions.

A business survives because of trust.

A family stays united because of values.

A leader remains respected because of character.

Without those things, the chair may still exist, but its strength disappears.

And that’s the irony.

Most people spend years trying to reach the chair.

Very few spend time becoming strong enough to deserve it.

The advertisement unintentionally highlighted something deeper:

People come and go.

Titles change.

Owners change.

Employees change.

Leaders change.

But what truly lasts is the strength of what holds everything together.

Maybe that’s why the ad stayed with me.

Because it wasn’t really about Fevicol.

It was about life.

The world will always have people competing for the chair.

The wiser question is:

Are you chasing the seat…

or building the strength required to hold it?

Fix our appearance.

Fix our mistakes.

Fix our careers.

Fix our timelines.

Fix ourselves.

Somewhere along the way, we start believing that life will finally feel beautiful once everything becomes perfect.

But what if perfection was never the point?

The Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi offers a different perspective.

It suggests that beauty is not found in perfection.

It’s found in imperfection.

In things that carry marks of time.

In things that are unfinished.

In things that are real.

A cracked cup.

A weathered wooden table.

An old photograph fading at the edges.

None of them are perfect.

Yet somehow, they feel more meaningful than something brand new.

Maybe because imperfections tell stories.

And stories are what make things valuable.

The same applies to people.

Most of us spend years hiding our cracks.

The heartbreaks.

The failures.

The insecurities.

The wrong decisions.

The chapters we’d rather not talk about.

But those experiences are often what shape us into who we become.

The person who never failed rarely develops resilience.

The person who never lost rarely understands gratitude.

The person who never struggled rarely learns empathy.

Our imperfections don’t just exist alongside us.

They become part of us.

And maybe that’s what Wabi-Sabi is trying to teach.

That life isn’t supposed to look flawless.

The house won’t always be perfect.

The relationship won’t always be perfect.

The career won’t always be perfect.

You won’t always be perfect.

And that’s okay.

Because some of the most beautiful moments in life happen when things are slightly messy.

The unplanned trip.

The awkward conversation that becomes a meaningful friendship.

The imperfect family photo where nobody is looking at the camera.

The wrinkles earned from years of laughter.

The scars that prove you survived something difficult.

Modern life constantly pushes us toward optimisation.

More productivity.

More achievements.

More perfection.

But Wabi-Sabi quietly whispers something different.

Slow down.

Look closer.

Appreciate what already exists.

Not despite its imperfections.

Because of them.

Maybe happiness isn’t found in becoming flawless.

Maybe it’s found in accepting that we were never meant to be.

And perhaps that’s the most comforting thought of all:

You don’t need to be perfect to be worthy.

You don’t need to be complete to be beautiful.

You simply need to be real.

The kind of place people save on Instagram and promise themselves they’ll visit one day.

Mountains in the distance.
Cold breeze.
Dim yellow lights at night.
Music playing softly somewhere in the background.

Everything looked peaceful.

The food was good.
The stay was perfect.
And technically, there was nothing to complain about.

But sometimes discomfort doesn’t come from the place.

It comes from not knowing where you belong in the room.

There were four couples on the trip.

One couple spent most of their time managing a toddler who kept running around with endless energy.

Another couple had an infant sleeping in shifts between conversations and responsibilities.

One was preparing for parenthood already, carrying both excitement and exhaustion together.

And then there was Aarav and Meera.

Newly married.
Still figuring out what marriage even meant outside wedding pictures and rituals.

Watching everyone felt strange in a way Aarav couldn’t explain.

Not bad.

Just… unfamiliar.

The others vibe calmly to slow music and peaceful conversations.

Because adulthood also teaches you another thing:

And maybe that was the most interesting part of the trip.

Nobody was better.

Some were preparing for responsibilities.

And some were still trying to hold onto the louder version of life a little longer.

On the last morning, Aarav stood quietly near the balcony watching the hills disappear behind fog.

Pretending to understand life while quietly Googling how to survive it emotionally.

That’s what Friends captured perfectly.

The messy middle phase of life.

• friendships slowly change

• and everyone secretly feels behind

But the beautiful part was this:

They never faced it alone.

Somewhere between coffee at Central Perk and random apartment conversations, they became each other’s emotional safety net.

And most don’t even realize it.

Harvey Specter wanted to prove emotions wouldn’t make him weak.

Mike Ross wanted to prove talent could outrun his past.

Louis Litt wanted acceptance so badly that every rejection broke him deeper than he admitted.

Jessica Pearson carried the pressure of leadership so calmly that people forgot leaders get tired too.

And honestly?

That’s what made the show relatable.

A lot of people laugh every day but haven’t felt peace in years.

A lot of people are financially stable but emotionally absent from their own lives.

A lot of people are so busy building a future that they forget to experience the present.

And one day, without warning, reality interrupts.

Someone gets sick.

Someone leaves.

Someone dies unexpectedly.

And suddenly all the stress that once felt huge becomes painfully small.

That’s when people realise life was never asking them to control everything.

Just to experience it while they still could.

To call people back.

To take the trip.

To watch sunsets without filming them.

To spend time with parents while they’re still energetic enough to create memories with you.

Because at the end, nobody wishes they answered more emails.

People wish they lived more.

And maybe that’s what we keep forgetting.

Life was never guaranteed to be long.

So at the very least

make sure it’s lived.

Because it’s not really about books.

It’s about expectations.

Sometimes we fall deeply in love with someone’s mind.

The way they think.

Write.

Express emotions.

Understand life.

And without realising it, we begin creating a perfect version of them in our head.

We assume:

someone who writes beautifully must live beautifully too.

But humans don’t work that way.

A person can create art that heals others while still struggling to heal themselves.

They can write about love and still fail at relationships.

Write about peace while fighting internal chaos.

Write wisdom they themselves are still trying to practice.

That’s the strange thing about creators.

Their work often reflects their deepest thoughts…

not necessarily their perfected reality.

And sometimes meeting the person behind the art ruins the magic.

Not because they’re fake.

Because they’re human.

Flawed.

Complicated.

Emotionally inconsistent like everyone else.

The problem is not that the author disappointed you.

The problem is that you expected a human to feel as polished as their art.

But art is edited.

Life isn’t.

Maybe that’s why some people prefer staying connected to the work rather than the person behind it.

Because the book gave them comfort without demanding reality.

And honestly…

this quote applies far beyond authors.

Sometimes we fall in love with:

- people’s online versions

- imagined personalities

- emotional projections

- the idea of someone

And reality feels disappointing simply because humans can never fully match fantasy.

Maybe the lesson isn’t:

“Don’t meet the author.”

Maybe the lesson is:

Learn to appreciate art without expecting perfection from the artist.

But some endings don’t leave your life when the person leaves.

They stay in small habits.

Aarav still checked his phone every morning hoping her name would appear.

It never did.

But he still looked.

And eventually, silence replaces consistency.

That’s what makes growing apart so strange.

Nobody technically did anything terrible.

But somehow, the connection still disappeared.

And honestly, those endings can hurt the most.

Because there’s nothing specific to blame.

At first, you resist it.

And maturity is learning not to force permanence onto temporary connections.

Because not every relationship is supposed to last.

And leave.

It feels normal.

You feel like you are just being careful.

Thinking deeply.

Trying to understand everything properly.

But slowly, your mind starts creating problems that may not even exist.

You think too much about small things.

A late reply.

A different tone.

A short message.

A small change in behavior.

And suddenly, your mind starts making stories around it.

“What if they are upset?”

“What if I said something wrong?”

“What if things change?”

The biggest problem with overthinking is that the thoughts start feeling real.

Even when nothing has actually happened.

You become stressed about situations that only exist in your mind.

While life is happening right now,

your thoughts are busy worrying about tomorrow.

Overthinkers are not weak people.

They just feel everything very deeply.

Every possibility.

Every emotion.

Every “what if.”

And honestly, it becomes tiring.

Because your mind never truly rests.

But with time, you learn something important:

Not every thought is true.

Just because your mind says something again and again,

does not mean it will happen.

Sometimes peace comes from stopping the need to control everything.

Some answers cannot be found by thinking more.

They can only be understood with time, experience, and real life.

They arrive disguised as heartbreak.

As people changing unexpectedly.

And at first, all you can focus on is the pain.

How much it hurt.
How unfair it felt.
How badly you wanted things to turn out differently.

But with time, something strange happens.

The same thing that broke you…
also starts showing you things you couldn’t see before.

You notice the red flags you once called “small issues.”

You realise how much you ignored just to keep people around.

How often you settled because you were more afraid of losing someone than losing yourself.

Pain has a brutal way of making things clear.

Not immediately.

At first, it just feels heavy.

But eventually, heartbreak stops feeling like punishment
and starts feeling like revelation.

Because some people don’t enter your life to stay.

They enter to expose what you were tolerating.

To teach you boundaries.
Self-respect.
Standards.
Detachment.

And honestly, some truths are so uncomfortable
that growth only begins once your heart gets involved.

That’s why not every ending is a loss.

Some endings rescue you.

Even if it doesn’t feel like it in the moment.

Because clarity is expensive.

And sometimes the price is emotional.

take that as a win.

A painful one.

But still a win.

Now they buy things because someone else did first.

Someone buys something.

You suddenly feel like upgrading yours.

Someone shifts to a bigger house.

Your own home starts feeling smaller.

A colleague buys the latest phone.

The one in your hand magically starts feeling outdated overnight.

And the strangest part?

Most of the time, there was nothing wrong with your life before comparison entered it.

That’s how silent competition works.

It creates problems that never existed.

People call it ambition.

But sometimes… it’s just pressure to wear expensive clothes.

We live in a time where people are upgrading lifestyles faster than they are upgrading peace of mind.

Everything has become performative.

Vacations.

Restaurants.

Weddings.

Clothes.

Even happiness.

And social media quietly made it worse.

Now everyone has front-row access to lives they were never meant to compare themselves to daily.

So people keep chasing.

Bigger. Better. Newer.

Not because they truly want it.

Because they don’t want to feel left behind.

But nobody really talks about the cost of this endless race.

Loans.

Stress.

Restlessness.

The inability to feel satisfied with what you already have.

And honestly…

who’s really winning then?

There’s peace in buying things because they improve your life.

But there’s exhaustion in buying things just to prove your life is improving.

Not every upgrade is necessary.

Not every trend deserves your money.

And not every successful-looking person is actually happy.

Some people are financially stable but mentally exhausted trying to maintain an image they never even wanted.

That’s why mindful living feels rare now.

Doing things because they genuinely make sense for you.

Not because everyone around you is doing them.

Because real wealth is not constantly needing more.

It’s being able to say:

“This is enough for me.”

And actually meaning it.
