noticing that some people leave things behind without knowing they did.

Not things you can keep.

A sentence.

A habit.

A way of looking at something.

A little more patience than you had before.

I think about this whenever I catch myself doing something differently because of someone else.

Waiting a little longer before assuming the worst.

Checking on someone even when they haven’t asked.

Remembering that a bad day doesn’t always need fixing.

Being gentler with someone who is clearly trying.

None of these things feel like memories when they happen.

They just feel like me.

And then I remember where some of them came from.

There are people who are kind to you in such ordinary ways that you don’t realise you are learning from them.

They don’t sit you down and tell you how to be better.

They simply show you.

In the way they listen without rushing you.

In the way they make space when you are quiet.

In the way they don’t make you feel difficult for needing a little more time.

In the way they can disagree with you without making you feel small.

You notice it once.

Then again.

And eventually, something about the way they treat you becomes part of the way you treat other people.

I think that’s one of the quieter things love does.

It teaches you without announcing the lesson.

Someone is patient with you long enough, and you begin to understand patience differently.

Someone gives you room to be yourself, and you stop being so afraid of giving other people the same room.

Someone listens carefully to the things you say casually, and you start listening more carefully too.

Not because they asked you to.

Because you know what it feels like to be met with that kind of attention.

I don’t think we always understand the effect people have on us while they are having it.

Some things take time.

A conversation becomes a thought you remember.

A kindness becomes something you repeat.

A way of being treated becomes the way you begin treating others.

And one day you do something that would have once felt unfamiliar, and realise someone taught you how without ever trying to.

I think about her when I notice these things.

Not because she has changed me completely.

She hasn’t.

I am still very much myself.

But there are softer parts of me that I recognise because she made them easier to keep.

The part that checks twice.

The part that notices when someone has gone quiet.

The part that doesn’t always need an explanation before offering a little kindness.

The part that understands that sometimes being there is enough.

I don’t remember when those things became natural.

There wasn’t a particular conversation.

No moment where I thought, I should become more like this.

They simply stayed.

The way some good things do.

And maybe that’s what makes kindness different from most things we leave behind.

You don’t always know where it will go.

You say something gently to one person.

Years later, they remember it.

Someone holds the door when you’re having a difficult morning.

You remember it the next time someone is walking behind you.

Someone lets you take your time.

And later, you let someone else take theirs.

The kindness keeps moving.

From one person to another.

Usually without either of them knowing where it started.

I think there is something beautiful about that.

That the best parts of someone don’t always stay with them.

Sometimes they become part of you.

And then, without meaning to, you carry them somewhere else.

A little patience.

A little softness.

A little more care than the moment strictly requires.

Small things.

The same kind of things I once thought were too ordinary to matter.

But perhaps that is how people remain with us.

Not only in the memories we keep.

But in the ways we begin to live.

I don’t know if she will ever notice all the little things I do differently because of her.

She doesn’t need to.

Some kindnesses are not meant to be traced back.

They are simply meant to continue.

And if something good in me ever reaches someone else,

I think a small part of it will always have her in it.

:))
<div class="captioned-button-wrap" ordinary.

People tell things to the people they like.

But then I noticed how often she had become the first person I wanted to tell.

That was harder to ignore.

Nothing around me had changed.

My days were still my days.

I still went to places, read books, met people, came home.

But somehow, she had started appearing inside them.

A song would play and I would wonder if she had heard it.

I’d see something funny and already know how she’d react.

I’d find a place I liked and imagine showing it to her.

Even the smallest moments started arriving with then.

I was too busy living it to give it a name.

That’s the strange thing about beginnings.

We expect them to be obvious.

A first meeting.

A first confession.

A first “I love you.”

Something clear enough to look back on and say,

That’s when it started.

But some beginnings don’t give you a moment like that.

They happen quietly.

One conversation becomes something you look forward to.

One person becomes someone you look for in a crowded room.

Their name becomes the first one your mind reaches for when something happens.

You start saving stories for them.

You start noticing what they would like.

You start wanting them to be there for things that would have felt complete without them before.

And somewhere in all of that, without making any announcement, you make room.

I didn’t notice when I made mine.

I only noticed later that she was already there.

In the things I wanted to tell her.

In the places I wanted her beside me.

In the little moments that somehow felt better when I imagined sharing them.

That was when I understood something about love.

It doesn’t always begin with the words.

Sometimes it begins with the instinct to turn toward someone.

Before you know why.

Before you call it anything.

Before you have decided what they mean to you.

The words came later.

The feeling didn’t.

I didn’t remember telling them.

That’s the part I keep coming back to.

It was something small, said in the middle of a conversation I had already forgotten.

Nothing important enough to repeat.

Nothing I thought anyone would remember.

Months later, they did.

And for a moment, I didn’t know what surprised me more.

That they remembered.

Or that I had forgotten saying it.

I think that’s one of the strangest things about being loved.

Someone can remember a version of you that you don’t even remember showing them.

A preference you mentioned once.

A story you told without thinking.

The reason you always look at the menu twice.

The song you always skip.

A little habit you never thought was worth explaining.

None of these things feel important when you say them.

You don’t sit down and think, “This is something I need you to remember.”

You simply let them slip into a conversation.

And then life moves on.

But sometimes, someone keeps them.

I used to think being remembered meant birthdays.

Important dates.

Names.

The things we’re supposed to remember about people we love.

Now I know it can be much quieter than that.

It’s remembering the things I mention without realising I’ve mentioned them.

Knowing which story will make me laugh even when I’ve heard it before.

Remembering the kind of silence I need when I’m tired.

Noticing the little things I forget about myself.

There is something different about these memories.

They aren’t facts.

They are pieces of a person.

And when someone remembers them, it feels less like they have remembered something about me and more like they have remembered me.

That’s the part I never understood when I was younger.

I thought being known meant being understood completely.

Now I know it can be much simpler.

Someone doesn’t need to know every version of me.

They just need to notice the small ones.

The things I say casually.

The things I do without thinking.

The things I forget five minutes after saying them.

And somehow, being known doesn’t feel like being studied.

It feels like being held gently in someone’s memory.

I think that’s why the smallest details stay with me now.

Not because they were extraordinary.

Because someone noticed them when they didn’t have to.

They could have forgotten.

I would never have known.

But they remembered anyway.

And that’s what love does quietly.

It pays attention to the things the rest of the world has no reason to notice.

A favourite song.

A strange little habit.

A sentence said once and never repeated.

A look that means more than the words that follow it.

The things that seem too small to matter.

Until someone remembers.

Then, somehow, they do.

:))
<div class="captioned-button-wrap" know I’ve had a long day.

A seat kept empty because they know I’ll eventually arrive.

A quiet, “Did you eat?” asked without really needing an answer.

Small things.

So small that I used to miss them.

I thought love was supposed to be easier to recognise.

Grand it.

The way someone remembers how I take my tea.

The song I always skip.

The silence I need when I’m tired.

They remember without making me feel watched.

They simply make room for the person I am.

I used to think staying meant being there when someone needed you.

Now I understand it also means being there when they don’t.

When nothing is wrong.

When there is no problem to solve.

When there isn’t anything particularly interesting happening.

Just an ordinary Saturday.

An ordinary conversation.

An ordinary evening where two people are doing their own things, and somehow the comfort of knowing the other person is there is enough.

I’ve always found something beautiful about people who don’t make me ask for their presence.

I don’t have to explain why I need them.

I don’t have to turn a difficult day into a reason.

They don’t need me to become interesting enough to keep their attention.

They stay because staying has become natural to them.

That’s when love becomes the gentlest.

When it stops feeling like something I have to earn.

I remember the people who showed up when I didn’t know how to ask them to.

Not always with answers.

Sometimes they had none.

They simply sat with me.

They listened.

They sent something silly when they knew I needed to smile.

And then they checked in again the next day, even after I had said I was fine.

That stayed with me.

Because there is a difference between asking once and remembering to ask again.

The first asks for an answer.

The second remembers the person.

I think that’s what staying really means to me now.

Not promising that you will always be there.

Not saying the perfect thing at the perfect time.

Just becoming someone whose presence doesn’t need to be requested every time.

I notice those people more now.

A message.

A saved seat.

A familiar question.

A little company on an ordinary evening.

None of these moments look like love when they happen.

They simply feel like someone being there.

And that’s why they matter so much.

Because after enough ordinary moments, you stop noticing that someone keeps choosing to stay.

You simply start calling their presence home.

And you never had to ask.

:))
<div class="captioned-button-wrap" I decided to write about her.

It has always been quieter than that.

I'd sit down to write a story. By the time I reached the second page, she was already there.

Never as herself. That wouldn't even feel right.

She would simply borrow another name, another life, another city.

But she'd still smile the way only she does.

She'd still disappear into her own thoughts without noticing how long she'd been quiet.

She'd still hide behind her phone before a picture.

And somewhere in the middle of writing, I'd smile too.

Not because I had written something beautiful.

Because I knew exactly where that little piece had come from.

People say writers create characters.

I don't think I do.

I think I remember her in different ways.

Sometimes it's just the kindness she leaves behind in a conversation.

Sometimes it's nothing more than a smile.

Just enough for me to stop reading and think, "There you are again."

I don't try to put her into my stories.

I never have.

If anything, I've tried not to.

But love has its own habits.

It remembers what the mind never asks it to.

So my fingers keep writing things my heart has known for a long time.

Maybe that's why I never have to think about where my stories begin.

I already know.

They begin with a boy who happened to love a girl named K.

Everything after that is just another story.
