July has been a quiet month in terms of events and things happening, but I’ve been soooo busy! Good busy! I was prepping my show, prepping for a secret project, and doing miscellaneous things for myself. I have also been traveling quite a bit, so that’s on me, but wouldn’t have it any other way!I was lowkey very sad very down in July, but I'm manifesting a joyous August!

A reel of mine went viral viral for the first time. That was an interesting experience… First off, people be commenting anything! Luckily most of the comments were very sweet, but some were like “ew… eating pussy???” like okay damn. I also hateeeee being perceived sometimes, and like 400k people saw that reel! Im just shy is all. I’m happy the piece got attention on Instagram dot Com!

Piggybacking as hell, I restarted my personal instagram. I think this gave me a lot of “social media freedom.” My old instagram was from middle school and there were ghost followers galore! I think I felt like I was performing, whereas Instagram (to me) should be a fun sharable thought board of sorts. I have been enjoying the change and now I have a robust “Lurk account!” :-)

It will be my birthday soon! #leoseason (idk lesbians like zodiac signs) I am not a birthday fan, but also feeling better about it now. I was lowkey dreading it. I think because I've had awful birthdays in the past and I generally do think most people are disappointed on their birthday. I will, however take the chance to hang out with my friends and family and receive love and attention! Yay to 24! Here are some things I enjoyed in Y23:

I went to my first big ass rave! Project Glow in D.C.. It was so fun! I wasn’t sure I’d like it because I prefer smaller spaces for EDM stuff and DIY things, but I had an amazing time! The weather was amazing and I was rolling! How could I not have a lit ass time lowkey! To be honest, wasn’t there for specific artists, but I had a nice time meeting other people and hanging out with my friends! I got many sprouts and lil stickers.

I went to Philly Pride! I got a haircut (mullet) and I feel soooooo nonbinary! Nonbinary as helllll. I love my mullet! Philly was gorgeous as always. I won a game of pool at Val’s with “they” and got waistbeads at the Dollar Stroll!

wow wow wow!

Okay so first off… I am NEVER getting on Feeld AGAIN. FUCK no. Helllllll nah. You have to pay my ass. I’ve already had a handful off disappointments on there, but this takes the cake. TLDR: I had a 3ish month fling, said some extremely weird shit about my very recent ex, and now there’s a Substack article about me. (FW a bad bitch and start acting confused when they are actually a bitch like?) If you see me on that application, it’s not me!!! Fuck my loser lesbian life!

Hard pivot! I went to BZF! So fun! This was probably my favorite fair I’ve been to. Being surrounded by other Black creatives, and POC people browsing, was super refreshing. I did not feel like a jester for once and I enjoyed the shared base level of understanding we all had. I picked up so many cool pieces!

NYC was amazing also - I went with some friends and made a weekend out of it! I saw Sky Jetta spin at Pussy Appointment, went to Boyfriend Co-op, had some amazing food, and walked around Brooklyn. I got to do a studio visit with my friends at Bad Student in Queens. SO FUN!

Outside of my very busy Lesbian Life, I’ve been having such amazing days with friends and such. “Bestiebae” and I just did our big one! I’m enjoying frolicking and eating around the DMV with “queen”! I tried Bún bò Huế for the first time thanks to “queen”… wow life changing. My mother thinks so as well. I’ve also been spending some time in Philadelphia recently! It’s such a beautiful thing to explore the city with a cooooool “they”! #dudeitsrude #T3trolley

I’m ranting on this beautiful Wednesday!

I came across a webcomic on substack that started recently (a few days ago) that really, truly, and genuinely has the same concept, premise, and format as 1-800-DYKE. I have pondered for many hours, and many of my friends have ensured I’m not a crazy bitch. I will not make assumptions in this rant, and am speaking about my feelings given known facts.

I’m going to preface this by saying nothing is made in a vacuum and nothing is super original.

However, I do think doing research as an artist/creator is important. Especially if you’re white. I surely did research before starting 1-800-DYKE, as I’d hate to step on toes! Google is free and so fast, so quick.

Historically, white people often receive more acclaim by doing the same thing as POC, and especially Black people! white people need to be more cognizant of their POC contemporaries and what is happening around them. I am not doing this for fame (what is fame in the world of comics lmao), but I have poured a lot into this project over the past year.

I don’t want to directly link the project, but I am telling you it is so similar, it’s really uncanny.

Emotionally and artistically. It is disappointing to see someone co-opt the same exact concept, especially one that actively centers and is made by POC lesbians, and white-ify it! (For lack of a better term)

Obviously, everything is a social media/algorithm game. I understand that. I cannot control how much attention I get vs this other person. I can however be uncomfortable and upset at the lack of recognition, lack of respect for an existing project, and lack of spatial awareness. I recently spoke with a friend about how avoidance and non-confrontation is a white supremacy tactic. Non-confrontation from a white person ensures their own comfort and makes us (BIPOC) feel rude, or un-cordial for being vocal.

I ask for accountability, and public acknowledgement.

On this Lesbian Week of Visibility, I ask white queers to be aware of yourself in spaces (online and in-person).

I wish all BIPOC lesbians a very good week! I hope you get amazing head!

A lot has happened since we last spoke!

1- I am in a comics residency in the D.C. area! YAYYY!!!! I will be in a show in the summer but will announce it later, of course. I’m excited to have some space/resources for comics. They have 3 risos I can use for free! Crazy! <3

2- I’m single! No bad feelings there. I still love and admire my ex-gf. Just changes, I suppose. Will not be crashing out like I did last March! Eyes looking to the side emoji!

More generally, I somewhat feel stagnant. But I know that’s not true! I do so much and honestly, am doing so much cool art work. I don’t know, I think I was down in the dumps in March. Breakups are hard obviously, but also some people disappointed me in major ways. I am optimistic for the rest of this year and just have to remind myself of what I have accomplished! Simultaneously, I have to get my life together hahahah.

Recently have been making more creative friends. It’s so amazing. I love being able to have cool conversations about my work, their work, artwork in general. Recently was sent an article about comics within French colonialism/propaganda. It was such a nice gesture to send and for me to discuss thoughts and go on tangents. Additionally, am working on some really big community stuff with my event team! I don’t like to plug my other work into 1-800-DYKE (note that 1-800-DYKE is all caps, always) but I’m really excited for DYKECHELLA. I really put my pussy into the concept and into all the creative aspects I’m working on. It’s such a shared effort and I can’t wait to write about our process once it’s all done.:-) I love life!

I had a no-party January* (*other than one party I was working. It was a darty so it barely counts!) and it was really good for me. As a professional party person, I think I was burnt out… especially because I’m kinda introverted! I replaced most parties with other events like poetry/literature readings or hanging with friends 1:1 (Shout out justfriendsjanuary) or having hot t4t sex or climbing with my gorgeous, strong girlfriend. To be clear I was not worried about partying from a substance use perspective, but a social battery perspective. I definitely struggle with FOMO and I felt it was a great way to reflect on slower moments and just chillin out.

What else… I have been trying new things! I recently figure modeled for the first time! It was incredibly fun. I did not know what 20 minutes truly felt like before that event. I tried a new psychedelic last month! I had a not-great-first-experience with acid, but 2CB was much more chill and I made some interesting sketches! See below.

I feel January is always a transitional period for everyone, given things such as resolutions and new routines. One of my friends will be leaving the area, (update: not leaving the area) and I am forming some new friendships with some cool people! As I have been reflecting on my 2026 goals, I want to really hone back in on art. In all forms! I miss having a cohort of artists around me, like in college. I want to talk about work I am making, but am missing dialogue and conversation, conceptually and process-wise.

REAL TALK. If y’all couldn’t tell, this is a monthly-ish thing now. It was initially weekly because I was sad and didn’t go outside… pros and cons! What do I have to say to-day?

Not much, I mean halloween happened! Very cool very fun, I was Donna Summer but someone guessed Sabrina Carpenter. I said “oh no”.

I went to NYC last weekend and got 2 very cool tattoos. They are my babies and the artist was on my “wishlist” for a minute. My GF and I also got some bomb ass food, and not as bomb coffee. She is a coffee roaster. She liked SEY, but I was scared because it was in Bushwick and everyone looked the same. That little mustache, carhartt jacket and some damn cybersigilism. Or alternatively, a little journal (spiral bound), pointed heel boots, track pants, messy bun, cybersigilism tattoo. Add a slim cigarette for bonus points.

Due to a new job with some social media presence (and I guess just my artistic presence in general), it seems I am a niche-micro celeb in the area I live in. This is not a baseless claim, nor a vanity thing. I get recognized in cafes, bars, and the climbing gym. I’m so not used to that. But it’s funny!

I’m not sure of any revelations as of late, I feel like I have been doing fairly well. No situationships, I love my job, and my friends, and lovely gf. I think I have a hard time accepting when things are going well, because I always look towards some “end”. But I am trying to not think that way anymore!

SPX was a few weeks ago! That shit changed my life… and drained my wallet! I didn’t take too many pictures cuz I was too busy jumping up and down and saying “ohmygodwowyouresuchabiginspiration heh” in front of everyone’s table. Anyways, long story short, SPX made me want to prioritize 1-800-DYKE more in my artistic life. So hopefully I will put these out with more regularity!

Long time no see -

I’m currently in Spain. It’s my first time in Europe and it’s… interesting. Spain, at least. I’m partial to Canada, personally, out of the places I’ve been to outside the US. I have mixed feelings about Spain, but I’m also not a travel blog! I did get to visit a comic shop in Barcelona (Fatbottoms) which was really fun.

I was in Philly a few weeks ago for my friend’s event. Take me back to Philly, I met so many cool and gorgeous queer people. I also caught the naked bike ride, which was dope as hell!

(It was my birthday in like early august.) I don’t really like birthdays, I think its really easy to be disappointed. This one was really amazing! My mom and brother came climbing, we went to dinner, I went to my fav art museum, and then I had a party at a dive bar! I screen printed matchbooks as little party favors. Many props to my amazing girlfriend, my family, and my friends! Above everything, I did not speak to anyone who did not bring me joy, and I did not be eat a sad, sad burger at Gus & Gus.

I have goals for my 23rd year on this earth. Here are a few:

• Go back to Toronto

• Go to Brazil or Mexico

• Climb v5

• Show an installation at a gallery/art space

• Paint a mural

• Climb v6

• Take cooking basics classes

I went to San Francisco and Portland, Oregon. Both very fun! I wasn’t the biggest fan of San Francisco, just not my vibe, but I got some cool comics in both cities!

Other than travels, i’ve been taking it easy this summer. Slightly burnt out art-wise, but trying to fix that!

I turn 23 next week so, here’s to 23? I was talking to a friend about how 23 is like a nothing year. Its not very interesting is all, and its an odd number. I don’t love odd numbers.

I’m trying to TLDR the past few weeks of my life here:

My secret project was that I was self publishing a comic anthology! It’s screen printed and risographed. See the post about it here. I’m super proud of this project!

BICS was fun as hell, but maybe more so visiting Brooklyn with my friends and mother! We had fire ass food, tabled for 8 hours, I did a panel, went to a set at Nowadays, waited 1 hour for taco bell at 2:30 AM, tabled again for 8 hours, got fire ass food again, then climbed!

Not to be sappy, but in March, I was feeling super lonely and unlovable perhaps, especially surrounding this event. I drove home alone from NYC Monday and I started crying because everyone was so supportive of me. I cannot express my gratitude and love enough to those who came up to see me/help me and those who support me from afar! Pictures of me at BICS/Brooklyn!

After BICS… shit bro idek… honestly it was all just pride related. Im sure somewhere in there I went through some emotional triumph and revelation, and trust me, I would have written about it. Maybe next week I’ll share my thoughts about acid, hahahah!

First off, I miss you all, I miss posting! But I’m addressing me not posting for weeks -

I believe I’ve hit a burn out! I am a freelancer in design and illustration and I am super fortunate to have really cool projects. Between that and being sad about my internship ending, I just don’t have much creative energy for personal projects right now!

Which sucks, there are things I really want to do (such as this and some works for myself) but I am kind of frozen and paralyzed with stuff. I also am really trying to balance out art/creative work and actually going outside/socializing/climbing.

This is all to say my brain is really scrambled right now and I appreciate your patience. I’m hoping I can get the next issue out in a week!

Okay, so after getting some feedback, I have some points to address:

Let me introduce myself and 1-800-DYKE to those who are maybe new!

• I’m Tia, I run 1-800-DYKE! I make comics and am an illustrator and designer from the DMV area.

• 1-800-DYKE is a weekly (for the most part) comic newsletter that takes sapphic/queer submissions from you all, and I choose stories to make little one-off comics! I also kinda just ramble about random stuff in my life, sometimes.

Story Stuff:

Basically, I will take any story that has to do with your experience of queerness/dyke shit/whatever you’d like to call it. I am centering sapphic stories and experiences, so keep that in mind. I’m going to start including some prompts that could inspire you (s/o Idris for the suggestion/comment)!

Story Parameters:

You can submit anything you want to me if you just want to put it into the nether, but for comics purposes here are some things I consider:

• One shot stories- Something that’s fairly concise, not too many moving parts, not a life story. This doesn’t mean I don’t like longer, or more flourish-y writing styles, I want to preserve your writing and voice!

• Phone heavy stories- I don’t love just drawing phones with texts for every panel, but I will occasionally! That doesn’t mean phones can’t be present at all. I love dating app stories and I acknowledge a lot of dating is online now so it really depends!

• Repetitive Subjects- This doesn’t have much to do with you all, but sometimes I won’t draw things because it may be something I just drew about. Such as, I’m trying to stray away from tinder stories for a bit, but will most likely do one soon! Just a look into how I choose things week to week.

Here’s an example of a story, if interested: (it’s mine from week 1)

[REDACTED] and I were watching Bones and All ... not really watching, we were talking through the whole thing (genuinely) but the two characters started making out with blood on their face and I was like "ew I can't deal with messy wet shit like that and like blood? no way". [REDACTED] turns to me and says "Is your Venus in Virgo" and I was like "uh, here's my chart???" and then they were like "yeah see that makes sense you hate mess because that’s just how Venus Virgos are… and I think you have autism"

Yo honestly? This week I’ve been working nonstop or on that mf climbing wall. But I don’t have many revelations today, but I am proud because I send v3s now! (add my kaya :P (bigbouldert)) Also proud because my secret project is close to done. I guess I have been so busy that I have not had the time to think about something profound and coming-of-age for you all, hahahaha!

Oh, DYKECHELLA is next weekend in D.C., which is really hype! But unfortunately for you all, I have some hands in the event so there will be no 1-800-DYKE next week. I can also warn you all that there will be no 1-800-DYKE the week of April 20th, because I need to lock in for BICS. April is really busy for me, so thank you for your grace.

Do I even have thoughts… no. Jk:

Been reflecting on freedom. Personal freedom! I guess I feel that I’ve shed control recently. I feel like after talking with my sweeties and friends, that maybe my past relationship was pulling me down a bit (in actuality) even though I thought I was growing. And I’m not talking shit, I’m stating experience. Honestly, it was all really small, little things/comments. It’s nice to be out of that. Like damn, let me buy tabis if I want to get tabis because I love mirrorqueering. Like aight bro maybeee let me listen to Free Range without scoffing at me, like honestly? Being so honest: I was really insecure about truly enjoying more stereotypical “white lesbian” music, probably because I was just being slightly mocked for it! Anyways… type shit.

Other than this, I’ve been enjoying all the people I have around me. I feel very valued and valid. I have so much love for the people in my life right now! I’m trying to be more comfortable with admitting love (on all scales and realms) to people. I feel like I show it, as I’m a big gift giver, and I try to be an active listener, and I be cooking for people, and lots more. Coming to terms with any sort of love verbally is harder and really vulnerable for me. I’m not trying to confess my undying love for anyone, but you know, something more tangible. I feel like “love” can be really taboo, and has been in my life for a while, but I’m learning it can show up in so many ways. Maybe that’s old news to some of you, me bad, but maybe it’ll help somebody!

A Shroom-y addition- I took some shrooms (like a littlelittlebit) before sketching/inking this so I knowww it’s not as in-line and gridded as usual. Also Free Range’s new album is out today and I am listening to it currently (on shrooms). The album is fucking crazy. Oh my god. This week was busy. I’ve been working a lot. I’m prepping for BICS, and freelance work, and my internship… alll that. I’m excited because I’m going to see Free Range (the band) this weekend with my friend! Yippeeeeee! I’m also going to go to this sapphic boxing class, then dyke climb, and more fucking climbing!

This week I’ve made some new friends and such. Which is really cool! I think I feel very free right now, and am navigating people and events in a different way than before. I honestly have not been at home in a chill-out-bed-rot way since last week. Am I avoiding actually sitting and being alone? I don’t know, maybe, I’m just genuinely really busy. But I’m happy. I feel happier at a base level.

I updated my pronouns to they/them! It’s funny because I started having crazy outfit issues. Like, I was so sad when I couldn’t find my brother’s cargo pants the other day and that’s when I knew.

So I had a whole thing written about desire and admitting feelings of love/likes. I’ll post it another time! I’m working on vulnerability, generally, and being so fucking for real, my girlfriend/partner/they would hate if I called them a joyfriend of 4.5 years and I broke up (for good) (real) (not a prank) this week.

And you’re going to say “oh! oh no! i’m sorry” and I will say “don’t say sorry it’s not your fault” and there would be a back and forth about “sorry it happened” and eventually I’d say “I’m not.” I guess I’m not mourning is what i’ll say. I think I did that for many weeks leading up to when we broke up. I was detached for a bit. Yes it sucks because it was such a long time. Yes it sucks because they were my best friend and we can never return to that. They were my 1st real relationship, and although we were open and I have dated a lot since then, it sucks!

Nobody ever tells you about the shitty parts of their relationship. All you hear is “we’re good!” and maybe some awkward silence, and a subject change to the weather, or politics.

I am celebrating the future I have with myself, I think. You know? I grew a lot. I’m growing right now. I’m glad I can be a little selfish with that growth moving forward.

I guess this little blurb on my (supposed to be funny) substack is a eulogy.

There are like 60 of you! In 2 countries and 14 states! This makes me so happy, I shed a singular, lone, dyke-shaped tear. I hope you all know how much gratitude I have for your support.

I’m trying out voice overs for the written parts of my issues. For accessibility reasons, but also I hope it gives more of a human touch to things. Just don’t make fun of my voice, I’ll cry MANY dyke-shaped tears.

Over the weekend, I got to bring a physical submission box to a sapphic party I was at. This was very fun and I’m for sure bringing this box around when I vend/table.

Generally, I’ve been well recently. I go bouldering almost everyday, I started this cool art internship, and I successfully drew smut! (Which is pictured below the comic, a warning or a bonus, you choose.)

When I initially wrote this a few days ago, I did not have any emotional word vomit. My friend (hello friend) told me maybe I should admit to myself and to you all that I am sad at times, such as right now. I should maybe stop masking sadness with things such as “melancholy and weed”.

I think I feel a need to be happy and useful all the time, maybe that’s an “older sibling” thing, maybe it’s because I fear people will not want to socialize with me when I’m not 100% pleasant. Something to unpack for sure.

ALSO thank you to those who have submitted so far! I am eternally grateful for the engagement and enthusiasm and loving the drama, the gushing, etc. But on the same note please keep submitting, spreading the word, and being sick and cool!

Not to get too into thought and concept, but I’m slightly high and slightly melancholic (at the time of writing this). I guess I had this project stewing in my brain for a while.

It felt important to me to launch this and maybe add something to the many other projects that are chronicling queer experience and creating meaningful media within our community. I recently was gifted “Dykes to Watch Out For” and also have picked up a lot of queer comics, which were so inspiring! (I'd be happy to share these also please just ask!)

I personally live in suburbia, and feel isolated from my queer friends and community. Reading and interacting with some of these stories helps me feel seen, heard, and keeps me going. I think as silly as my personal comics can be, I hope they are helping someone somewhere as much as they help me!
