Not to be dramatic (when am I not? hehe) but being at a gig reminds me that I’m alive. It makes the stressors I bear feel less significant whilst simultaneously experiencing one of the most deeply human feelings there is: joy. Baby, it’s electric!!!

If we’re talking venues, I’m partial to an unassuming pub band room. I love the intimacy of small spaces, the low ceilings, sticky floors and the excitement of experiencing an artist in more humble beginnings. On the contrary, I’ve always favoured the melting pot that is a music festival - sprawling fields, ferociously scanning set times to monopolise as many acts as possible AND discovering new artists you hadn’t heard of? Get me there.

Looking back, I’ve always had this love for live music. As a teenager I would line up at a venue alllll day in the hopes of securing “barricade” - the ultimate marker of success to 17 year old me. As the encore ended, I would collect and cherish whatever remnants I could: tickets, wristbands and confetti - I still have them in a box somewhere, I’m sure. Once home, I’d relish the post-concert fixation; reliving the moment I experienced mere hours ago, watching recordings with ringing ears until I fell asleep... fan girl 4eva.

Unfortunately, ticket prices have skyrocketed in recent years making it feel like there is less space for casual fans, which I am for many artists. That is, I appreciate their music, but do I love them enough to drop $200+ on a random Thursday night? Perhaps not! I understand how it’s come to this, with very little revenue derived from streams, increased costs of travel and tour operations plus the dominance of commercial promoters; the future landscape of live music feels uncertain.

It’s become somewhat a privilege rather than a means to experience something you love. It’s crazy to think just a couple of decades ago you had to wait for a song come on the radio or until your favourite band was in town to hear the music you enjoyed, unless of course you had purchased a cassette, vinyl or CD. Now, we are lucky (?) to have everything at our fingertips all at once, crafting and curating playlists in minutes - the modern-day mixtape! I don’t know which is better or worse?

Through the good and bad, the highs and lows, there has always been an accompanying song to soundtrack my life. To hear those songs live and in stereo? It’s a sensory experience those damn corded Apple headphones couldn’t dare emulate!

A crowd of strangers bound by a common thread: the love of live music.

Wrap up and witness something cool this winter (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶) ‹𝟹

Having booked the holiday almost entirely due to an insane deal (yes, I did the tripadeal tour), to me, China had always existed in the category of I’ll get there one day. No serious threat to top contenders, it had never featured as an “it’s on my list!” country.

It wasn’t until I arrived that I realised I have to tell everyone to bump China to the TOP.

With little research and limited access to a girl’s best friend (social media), it quickly became clear I was already late to the starting line. Furiously pinning restaurants, bars and stores, off we’d go.. the blind (me) leading the blind (my sister) via DiDi, consistently pulling up to an empty shop front or a different store completely. Our success rate was dismal: we knew places only by their English names from online listings, and Google Maps was blocked.

China is truly a place of ‘if you know, you know’ and ohhh how I desperately wanted to know!!

The whole trip felt like I was always one step behind. Close enough to sense that something incredible was just around the corner, but not informed enough (yet!) on local apps, maps, tips and tricks to strike gold. It was as if I was constantly just shy of having my finger on the pulse - was China... edging me?

Eventually surrendering, we’d fall back on a safe bet only to stumbled upon the place we were searching for just hours ago in a different location. It was a thrilling game of cat and mouse and even if one sided, I couldn’t get enough.

The thing I loved most about China was that it seemed as if it truly didn’t care about my presence and simply existed as it always had, offering a polite but firm ‘take it or leave it’ attitude. With very little English spoken even in major cities, it was a stark contrast to the other Asian countries I’ve visited where it felt like everything was accommodated to my ignorant tourist needs. There’s a comfort in that, obviously, but it’s also nice to be reminded that you’re the outsider and not the main character.

With that said, China never made me feel unwelcome, quite the opposite actually! To me, the people were friendly, kind and genuinely helpful - some even leaving an impact so special that I’ll remember them forever. I could write on and on about the beautiful landscapes, rich culture, technological advances and sheer efficiency across the board but some things need to be seen to be believed. Plus, I’m trying to keep it short n sweet!

As my trip was coming to a close, what stayed with me was the feeling that China didn’t need me to understand it and perhaps that’s exactly why I can’t stop thinking about it.

From trivia nights to live gigs, community activations, film screenings and hundreds more, we’ve covered it alllll. It’s extremely fulfilling to think I may have been a small part of the fun you’ve had or a memory made in Melbourne. Whether you’ve been subscribed for 2 weeks or since my first post, thank you for being here ♥︎

The last 12 months have undoubtedly been a labour of love. 52 weeks of consistent posting, plus a full time job and content creation on the side.. whilst rewarding, it’s been quite the crawl to get here. To put it simply, I don’t think I can execute another 12 months of publishing in a weekly format - it’s nearly killed me diva’s. I’ve been struggling to balance and maintain other important aspects of my life in tandem with posting and I fear that burnout is knocking at my door (hey girl!).

So, what does this mean? I’m taking a lil break! I’m quite literally in China right now living my best freaking life baby (more on that in a future post hehe). Although I’m not certain on what comes next, I’m excited for this newsletter to take new form and continue to evolve as all great things do! It’s super special to work on something bigger than myself and to foster a community that is so cool and fun.

Last but not least for Monday (and beyond) is FLOWER POWER; a huge immersive installation taking over Melbourne’s new City Square by Barkindji artist Kent Morris. Spooooky.

The Royal Family Dance Crew from Aotearoa (lead choreographer is Parris Goebel btw) are bring the vibes to Melbourne for a day-to-night celebration featuring street dance, Pasifika artists, dancehall, techno and crowd workshops. It’s the last week of May.. what is going ONNNN?? Lucky for us, RISING officially kicks off on Wednesday and is keeping us well fed right through to June 7th, yippeee. Orange Moon at Bar Open

Orange Moon is bringing their ten piece blend of soul jazz, funk and groove rhythms to Bar Open this Saturday night! The group draw influence from Sade, The Soul Jazz Orchestra and the cultural sounds of the Pacific Islands and East Asia.

Unlike in Zara Larsson’s smash hit Midnight Sun, summer unfortunately is over in Melbourne. With that said, I’m determined to have a sexy girl autumn - ever heard of her, hunny???

To be clear from the jump, I’m NOT talking about orange leaves, pumpkin flavoured beverages and Gilmore Girls, no. I want to have fun!!! I’m ready to fight the shorter days AND have my cake and eat it too (pumpkin spice if necessary!) I’m envisioning (faux) fur coats, chic cocktails, mood boards and manifesting. Quality time with my friends, a date or two, perhaps? Sexy! I will be prepared for the weather by packing an umbrella but also be ready to embrace the rain - the duality of a diva.

In case you weren’t across it, we’ve actually already hit the halfway mark of Autumn (?) but what I’ve learnt through time is that it’s never too late to start a list and get ticking, girls! So, here are 8 things I’m trying to embrace this season to have a sexy girl autumn:

1. Frequenting wine bars (and pubs!)

Is there anything sexier than a dimly lit wine bar with cool music and cosy vibes? News flash.. there isn’t! Recently I’ve stopped by Waxflower, Caretakers Cottage and Bahama Gold and there’s no sign of me stopping! I’m ready to bring the tarot cards, deep questions and beat a dead horse with my girls.

2. Investing in staple pieces

I biblically need an overhaul on my wardrobe this season, enough is enough :( As the months grow colder, I want to invest in an Unreal Fur coat as well as some staple layering pieces that I won’t get sick of.. hopefully!

3. Curating playlists

If you know me, you know I loveeee a playlist! Over the last few years I’ve created one each season, nominating an it-girl or fictional character as the face. The most recent edition? Alexa Chung autumn of course! (listen & save below)

4. Going on a date?

Scary!!! Historically, I don’t date but recently I went on my first date in a year and I didn’t die? Crazy concept. I think women who date for fun are icons, truly. This one is more of a challenge than an embrace but I’m attempting to be open… dm me, maybe hehe ૮ • ﻌ - ა

5. Dopamine detox

Being unplugged is sexxxyyyy and I want to level up, my loves! It goes without saying dolls, I am chronically online. However, carving out intentional time to detox from stimulants is the refresh I’m craving. A nature walk without music, reading a book on the tram, 24 hours abstaining from social media? Hot.

5. Watching films that excite me

Much like Pamela, I don’t know if I can call myself a cinephile but I certainly love a movie. I’ve already watched 20 films this year (!!!) and I want to continue at this speed, induldging in absolutely cinema, baby! My streaming platform of choice? MUBI! ૮₍ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ₎ა

6. Pursuing my hobbies

Nobody wants to be the with girl with no hobbies.. or perhaps that’s just my own projection. I have so many ideas and passions that I want to explore but find myself overwhelmed at the thought of execution. Hobbies should be fun and lighthearted so this autumn I want to take the pressure off and have fun being a creative :’)

7. Hanging out with cool girls

I’d hope by now you’ve gathered that sexy is purely a state of mind as is being a cool girl. Subjective adjectives - it’s tongue in cheek, darling. I want to surround myself with women that aim high and uplift others. Girls that have personal style and a sense of self, ladies that want to have fun! You feel me?

8. Reading a book?

I’m so embarrassed to admit that I’ve yet to read a book in 2026, oh how the mighty have fallen. Much like the theme of this post, it’s never too late to start! This weekend I am determined to pick up a book and get the party started.
