Every morning, I put on my shirt, showed up to the bank, balanced accounts, solved customers’ problems, and convinced myself I was on the “safe” path.

It paid the bills fairly.

My parents were proud.

But deep down…

I couldn’t stop wondering what would’ve happened if I’d chosen curiosity over comfort.

I walked away from banking and into tech sales.

No experience.

No clue what SDR even meant.

Just a willingness to learn.

Looking back now, the biggest risk wasn’t leaving.

The biggest risk was spending another five years wondering…

“What if?”

So I wrote like I was trying to win an argument with a room full of strangers.

Long sentences.

Big ideas.

Carefully polished language that looked smart but said very little.

Then one day, I posted something much simpler.

It wasn’t clever.

It wasn’t packed with jargon.

It was just honest.

And that one post took off.

That was the moment I realized something important:

Most people don’t need more content.

They need a reason to care.

We’ve been taught to believe that the best content is the most detailed, the most strategic, or the most valuable.

But on the internet, clarity beats complexity every time.

People don’t stop scrolling because your idea is too simple.

They stop because they don’t understand why it matters to them.

That’s why some of the posts that go viral are not the most sophisticated ones.

They’re the ones that say the thing everyone has been thinking but nobody has said out loud.

What actually made it work

When I looked back at that post, I realized it had a few things most content doesn’t.

It was specific.

It didn’t try to speak to everyone.

It spoke directly to a very real frustration.

It had a point of view.

It wasn’t neutral.

It took a stand.

It sounded human.

Not corporate.

Not over-edited.

Not like it had been approved by six different departments.

And it made one clear promise.

It didn’t try to do everything.

It did one thing well.

The mistake most people make

A lot of creators and sales teams think their problem is visibility.

So they post more.

They write more.

They send more.

But the real problem is often not volume.

It’s sameness.

If your message sounds like everyone else’s, people will treat it like everyone else’s.

That applies to LinkedIn posts.

It applies to cold emails.

It applies to sales calls.

It applies to landing pages.

If it could have been written by anyone, it will feel like it was written for no one.

The lesson for creators and sales teams

The best-performing content usually does one of three things:

It challenges a belief.

It names a pain.

It offers a new way to see something familiar.

That’s it.

You do not need to sound like a guru.

You do not need to write like a textbook.

You do not need to cram every insight you’ve ever had into one post.

You need to be clear enough that the right person feels seen.

Because when someone feels seen, they pay attention.

And when they pay attention, trust starts to build.

Apparently, I was being investigated.

The allegation?

That I had been systematically eliminating every boring LinkedIn content strategy known to mankind.

For a brief moment, I considered calling my lawyer.

But instead, I opened LinkedIn.

The post was satire, of course.

But the reaction wasn’t.

Hundreds of people laughed because beneath the joke was something painfully true.

Most B2B content isn’t ignored because the algorithm hates it.

It’s ignored because it looks exactly like everything else.

We’ve become obsessed with looking professional.

In the process, we’ve forgotten how to be memorable.

People don’t stop scrolling because your advice is valuable.

They stop because something interrupts their expectations.

That’s why I enjoy using satire, fake newspaper covers, police interrogations, football academies, and courtroom dramas.

Not because I’m trying to be funny.

Because stories travel farther than statements.

Humor lowers people’s defenses.

Curiosity earns attention.

And attention gives your message a chance to be heard.

The real crime

If there were a Content Police, I don’t think they’d arrest creators for experimenting.

They’d arrest us for publishing the same post over and over again.

Generic hooks.

Generic opinions.

Generic CTAs.

Generic content.

The internet doesn’t have an attention shortage.

It has an originality shortage.

The lesson for sales teams

This applies to outbound too.

Most outreach fails for the same reason most content fails.

It sounds interchangeable.

Whether it’s a LinkedIn post, a cold email, or a cold call, people can tell when it could have been sent to anyone.

The goal isn’t simply to personalize.

The goal is to become impossible to confuse with everyone else.

Let me start with an analogy.

Building a new life is a bit like crossing a river with no bridge.

You don’t get to see the other side clearly.

You just know the current behind you is already too strong to go back.

That was me a few years back.

And here’s the sacrifice I made:

I left my banking job after 5 years

Definitely not because I had it all figured out…

but because I was tired of standing still while life kept moving.

And what followed that decision was not pretty at all.

I had sleepless nights.

Working across time zones… PST, WAT, everything at once.

Days that blurred into nights.

Nights that felt like they would never end.

At one point, I genuinely thought I might break.

But I didn’t, breaking was delusional at that point 😂

Something kept me steady.

Not desperation alone.

There was always a quiet belief underneath everything, call it faith, call it God, call it alignment, but it was there.

I clearly wasn’t just grinding blindly.

I was trying to build something with intention.

So I doubled down on things others avoided:

learning, cold outreach, repetition, rejection, discipline.

I applied to over 350 companies.

Different strategies, different approaches, no shortcuts.

Then one role finally stood out.

A company I genuinely loved.

I didn’t even hesitate to apply

And less than 40 minutes later… I got rejected.

And honestly, that one email should have ended the story.

But, it changed the direction instead.

Something in me said: this isn’t over yet.

So I went back, I went back to the same company

And I did something that sounded crazy at the time, I offered to work for free.

People laughed, some didn’t understand.

But I wasn’t trying to look smart.

I just wanted a door, a chance. That was all.

Eventually, I landed one interview with HR. 🕺🕺

And I made sure I didn’t waste it.

That was the beginning.

Everything after that, the growth, the income jump, the trajectory, all came from that single moment of access.

The lesson?

Sometimes what looks like a rejection… is just life removing everything unnecessary so you can see what you’re willing to sacrifice for.

Because in the end, it’s not always talent that changes your life.

It’s what you were willing to do when nobody else would.

And maybe that’s the real question:

What door are you waiting for…

that is actually waiting for your courage first?

I started my career in banking and stayed there for five years.

By the fifth year, I was exhausted.

Not just of the work… but of feeling like I was giving everything and still not moving forward the way I wanted to.

I was still in school at the time, paying my own fees, figuring life out as I went.

So I made a decision.

I left banking and moved into tech sales.

And honestly? It felt like I had made a mistake.

The kind of mistake that keeps you awake at night.

I struggled a lot learning cold calls, cold emails, rejections… starting from zero again.

At one point, I even offered to work for a company for free after failing their interview.

And that one decision became my way in.

Things started to shift for me gradually

First job, second job, the rest is history

But somewhere along the way, I noticed something unexpected.

I had started losing something I couldn’t ignore anymore.

PURPOSE!

I didn’t have a very clear ambition or drive.

And after I spent months figuring things out

It came back in a very simple way.

I started building a house for my parents.

Brick by brick, quietly, still confused

And somehow, that grounded everything again.

Because for the first time in a while, I wasn’t just chasing success…

I was building meaning.

Here 4 lessons I learned from this journey:

1️⃣ Money is a tool, not a purpose

It can push you forward, but it can’t define your direction.

2️⃣ Struggle is often the price of transition

If it feels messy, you’re probably in the middle of becoming something new.

3️⃣ Success without clarity eventually feels empty

Growth means little if you don’t know what it’s for.

4️⃣ Purpose is built, not found

Sometimes it shows up quietly in the things you choose to build for others.

And maybe that’s the real lesson…

You don’t find purpose by chasing it.

You notice it when you look back and realize the things you built while trying to survive… were actually shaping the life you were meant to live.

If you’re a salesperson, founder, or solopreneur, and your survival depends on selling something, this is for you.

After spending over 4 years in tech sales, I’ve realized something important:

Most outbound doesn’t fail because of effort.

It fails because of misalignment.

It’s like trying to start a conversation with someone who:

• doesn’t need what you’re selling

• can’t decide anything

• isn’t dealing with the problem yet

No matter how smooth your pitch is…

The conversation goes nowhere.

That realization completely changed how I approach outbound.

Whether it’s calls, emails, LinkedIn messages, or social selling, everything I do now runs through a simple filter I call:

The 4R Conversion Model

• Right Company

• Right Person

• Right Moment

• Right Message

Let me break it down for you

1️⃣ Right Company — Does this problem even exist here?

If the company doesn’t actually experience the problem you solve, your outreach will always feel random.

Don’t just filter by industry.

Look for signals that indicate urgency:

• Hiring for the function you support

• New funding

• Leadership changes

• Expansion into new markets

Signals mean something is moving.

No signal = background noise.

2️⃣ Right Person — Who owns the headache?

A lot of outbound goes to people who are aware of the problem…

…but not responsible for fixing it.

Those people rarely reply.

Because even if they agree with you, they can’t do anything about it.

Don’t map job titles.

Map accountability.

Example:

Selling sales tools?

You might target Head of Sales.

But the real owner might be:

• VP Revenue Operations

• CRO

• Sales Enablement leader

Ask yourself one question:

Who gets blamed when this problem hurts revenue?

That’s your buyer.

3️⃣ Right Moment — Is now the time?

Even the right company and right person won’t respond if the timing is wrong.

Outbound without timing is like knocking on someone’s door at 3 AM.

They might need what you sell…

just not right now.

Simple hack

Prioritize trigger-based outreach.

Examples:

• Hiring SDRs → prospecting tools

• Growing outbound teams → data providers

• Entering new markets → pipeline tools

Timing multiplies responses.

4️⃣ Right Message — The conversation itself

Now we finally arrive at the message.

The call.

The email.

The DM.

This is where most reps start.

But in reality, this is where you should finish.

Simple hack

Stop pitching the product first.

Start with the signal you noticed.

Example:

“Noticed you’re hiring five SDRs in London.

Usually when teams scale outbound that fast, pipeline visibility becomes messy…”

Now the outreach feels intentional, not random.

Here’s the simple test for this week:

If you make 100 calls, send 200 emails, and message 50 prospects…

…and nothing sticks…

Don’t immediately rewrite your script.

Instead ask:

Which one of the 4Rs is broken?

Because great outbound isn’t built on more activity.

It’s built on better alignment before the first hello.

Imagine trying to sell umbrellas in the middle of the desert.

You could have the best pitch in the world.

Beautiful words, perfect timing and a flawless delivery.

But if nobody around you is expecting rain…

you’re just a very talented person selling the wrong thing to the wrong crowd.

That realization hit me hard early in my sales career.

I used to believe success in outbound was all about writing the perfect message.

So I rewrote emails endlessly.

Changed subject lines.

Tweaked sentences like a poet editing a love letter.

And still… my inbox was quieter than a cemetery.

No replies, no single meetings.

Just my beautifully crafted emails floating somewhere in the void 😂

Then one faithful day, it clicked.

Outbound isn’t really about what you say.

It’s about who you say it to.

You can write the most beautiful cold email in the world.

But if the person doesn’t actually care about the problem you’re solving…

It’s just spam with better grammar.

The best reps eventually figure this out.

They spend less time obsessing over copy…

and more time asking better questions:

• Does this company actually have the problem I solve?

• Does this person own the outcome of that problem?

• Is something happening right now that makes this relevant?

When those three things line up, something interesting happens.

Your “average” email suddenly starts booking meetings.

Because the truth is simple:

Great copy cannot fix bad targeting.

But great targeting can make average copy work beautifully.

Before sending your next outbound message, pause and ask yourself:

Am I talking to the right person about the right problem… at the right time?

Sometimes the biggest improvement in sales doesn’t come from writing better.

It comes from choosing better.

Felt calmer… clearer… honestly brand new

3. I built a steady exercise routine

Not perfect, but now it feels natural

4. I invested in my content setup

No more excuses… we’re going serious now

5. I improved my water intake

Simple… but it changed more than I expected

6. I celebrated my friends winning

Watching people around you grow hits differently

7. And of course… I closed more deals

More conversations, more money 😄

Honestly, these might sound basic.

But for me, they felt like turning the volume down on chaos… and finally hearing myself think again.

I feel more alive.

Sharper, calmer.

Even better at my sales job, without feeling like I’m running on empty.

And that’s the part that surprised me the most.

Nothing crazy happened.

No big breakthrough.

Just small things… done right.

And somehow, it all added up.
