Have you ever noticed how easy it is to hear everyone else’s opinions… but often so difficult to hear your own?

Every day, we are surrounded by voices telling us who we should become… what success should look like, what path we should choose and what kind of life we should lead.

And because so much of this advice comes wrapped in confidence, and certainty, we slowly forget to ask ourselves the question that matters most:

What feels true for me? What do I actually want?

This is where intuition begins.

As Gavin De Becker writes: “Intuition is always right in at least two important ways; it is always in response to something. It always has your best interest at heart.”

Intuition is the inner knowing that guides us toward what feels meaningful, authentic and true to us. Rather than making decisions based on fear, comparison, or the desire to please others, it reminds us of what we value, what we need, and which direction is right for us. It helps us live in alignment with who we truly are.

Psychologist Gerd Gigerenzer describes this as the “intelligence of the unconscious”… the ability to make judgments based on knowledge and experience that we may not always be able to explain logically.

Intuition is about listening to a deeper form of wisdom that has been gathering information all along.

And the beautiful thing is this: we can reconnect with it at any time.

Five ways to reconnect with your intuition

1. Create space for silence

Spend time outdoors, away from external stimulation or devices. Watch the sunrise and listen to the sounds of nature… simply be.

In moments of stillness, we begin to notice what has been there all along: our feelings, our desires, and our own inner voice.

As Rumi once wrote, “silence is the language of God, all else is poor translation.”

2. Listen to your body

Our bodies are communicating with us constantly and hold so much wisdom.

Before making a decision, ask:

• Does this create expansion or contraction?

• Do I feel lighter or heavier?

• Do I feel like I am moving toward myself or away from myself?

Body scans and yoga nidra practices are powerful ways to strengthen our connection with our body, awareness and intuition.

3. Ask yourself before asking everyone else

Advice can be incredibly valuable. Other people’s perspectives can help us see things we cannot see alone. But before we ask everyone else what they think, we can ask ourselves:

What do I already know? What am I avoiding? What answer keeps returning, even when I try to ignore it?

So often, we are not searching for answers. We are searching for permission to trust ourselves.

4. Notice what gives you energy

Our intuition often speaks through energy.

Pay attention to the moments when you feel alive, present, and joyful. Notice the people, places, and activities that leave you feeling more like yourself.

Equally important, notice what consistently drains you. Ask yourself:

• What brings me a sense of aliveness?

• Where do I feel most like myself?

• What leaves me feeling disconnected from who I am?

Our energy can reveal what the mind has not yet understood.

5. Write without editing

One of the fastest ways to reconnect with your intuition is to let your inner voice speak without interruption. Take a journal and write freely for a few minutes. Ask yourself:

What am I feeling right now?
What do I need to hear?
What truth have I been avoiding?

Writing creates a bridge between the conscious mind and the deeper wisdom within.

There’s an old story, told in China for over two thousand years, about a farmer who worried that his seedlings were growing too slowly.

Each morning he would walk out to his field, kneel down and study the tiny green shoots. And each morning, they looked much the same as the day before.

His impatience grew until, one afternoon, he had an idea. He went from plant to plant, gently tugging each shoot upwards, just a little, to help it along.

He returned home that evening, exhausted but satisfied, and announced to his family, “I have been helping the crops grow!”

The next morning, his son ran out to the field.

Every shoot had withered.

The wisdom in this story is simple yet easy to forget.

Growth cannot be forced, it can only be tended.

The farmer’s mistake was that he confused effort with interference. He believed that if he couldn’t see progress, no progress was being made.

But so much of growth is invisible. Beneath the soil, roots were quietly deepening. Water was being drawn upward. Life was unfolding exactly as it needed to, in its own time, hidden from view.

How often do we do the same to ourselves?

We begin a healing journey, a new venture or habit, and within days we are kneeling in the field, inspecting ourselves for progress. Shouldn’t I be further along by now?

And sometimes, in our impatience, we tug. We push ourselves to feel better before we’re ready. We uproot our tender new beginnings just to check if they’ve grown roots.

The gardener’s wisdom is different. A gardener does not make anything grow. A gardener creates the conditions for growth: good soil, water, light, protection from frost and room to grow.

Room to grow means space without pressure. It means not hovering, not measuring, not demanding that the seed explain itself before it has even sprouted.

Perhaps this is what we owe ourselves too. Not more force, but patience and room to grow.

Because the season when nothing seems to be happening is often the season when everything is.

And the best thing we can do is trust in what cannot yet be seen.

A gentle practice

Take a moment to reflect:

Where in your life are you tugging at the shoots? Is there a place where you are demanding visible progress from something that is still quietly taking root?

Today, see if you can trade one act of forcing for one act of tending. Instead of asking “why isn’t this growing faster?”, try asking “what conditions can I offer it today?”

Whether we’re off to a great summer or need to get out of a summer slump, this quote could be what we need to turn things around and make this summer the best summer yet.

Often we only think of New Year’s as the time to plant seeds. We set our goals and intentions in the winter, then can lose sight of them by summer.

But what if we used summer as a fresh start?

Everything is blooming. The sun is shining and here, at the halfway point of the year, we’re offered a natural pause… a chance to slow down, relax and reset. We can reflect on the six months behind us and the six ahead. (Not in the language of to-do lists, but in the language of the soul.)

Pilots have a saying: a plane just one degree off course will end up hundreds of miles from where it meant to land.

But what’s beautiful about this is it also means one small degree of change, held over time, can carry us somewhere entirely new.

Small doesn’t stay small, it grows. The shift is invisible in the moment but it becomes visible in the distance.

We can apply this concept in our lives, using this season to recalibrate and shift our trajectory. To consciously choose the direction we go with fresh eyes.

New Year’s is when we plan the year on paper. Summer can be when we check it against how we actually feel…. and welcome the one-degree shift that carries us, bit by bit, closer towards a life we desire.

Summer practices to realign with what truly matters

Pause for a moment and ask yourself: what would good look like for you? What would magical look like?

Here are three simple practices that can help us recentre, realign with what truly matters and shift our trajectory toward everything good.

1. The what matters list

Take a moment of stillness and just be. Soak up the sunshine and relax in nature.

Then reflect on the past six months and the next six, with kindness for however they went. Write down everything that truly matters to you. You can also journal on:

• What brought me joy? What gave me energy? What drained it?

• When do I most feel like myself and how could I do more of that?

• What would a soul-filled July/August actually look like?

2. The summer photo experiment

Imagine you could only photograph three moments all summer. What would you notice more? What would you capture? What beauty are you already surrounded by that you may have not seen before?

3. The evening delight question

In the evening ask: what delighted me today? What brought me joy?

Remember to take care, rest and be gentle with yourself. Sometimes it’s the small things and tiny shifts that make all the difference.

May this be the summer you simply lean in, one degree at a time, toward everything good and magical ahead.

There is something deeply comforting about this ancient proverb, especially when we’re standing in front of something that feels big. A dream we want to bring to life, a goal or a version of ourselves we are slowly growing into.

So often, we think of meaningful change as something that should arrive all at once.

But most of what we are truly proud of in life is not created in a single moment. It is built through a series of small steps that rarely feel impressive while they are happening.

This proverb gently reminds us that what matters most is consistency and presence.

Returning…. showing up. Bean by bean.

So what is your next bean?

Think about a dream, a goal or intention you hold in your heart… this dream represents the sack being filled.

Then break it down with care and then break it down again.

Until it becomes so small, that it is simply the next bean.

A tiny step, an action or a moment of courage.

Like a painting, that happens one touch of paintbrush at a time.

Take a moment to reflect: What is a small step you can take today? What is the next bean?

And then begin. Without pressure, with full presence and love.

Each “bean” we place into the sack can be infused with something beautiful… love for what we’re building, joy in showing up and trust in the process, even when the outcome is not yet visible.

Every small effort matters, every moment we choose to begin again matters.

Each bean is contributing to something larger than we can currently see.

And perhaps the greatest gift is: while we are filling the sack, the sack is also filling us.

Each step shapes us. What begins as an external journey slowly becomes an inner one.

And then, one day, you look up… and the sack is full. The painting is created.

What once felt distant is within reach.

And you realise it was never just about the destination… it was about who you became, bean by bean, along the way.

There is an ancient teaching that offers a profound path through suffering: the teaching of the two arrows.

The Buddha once shared that in life, we are struck by two arrows.

The first arrow represents the unavoidable pain of life. The challenges, loss and disappointments we all face. These arrows are part of our human experience.

But then comes the second arrow.

The second arrow is the suffering we add on top of the first.

This is the mental and emotional reaction to the initial pain: the anger, resentment, fear, or blame that arises when we resist what has happened or judge the situation.

And often, it is the second arrow that hurts the most.

We can see this teaching at work in a story of a young monk who accidentally cut his finger while preparing a meal.

At first, the pain was sharp but manageable.

But then, the young monk began to curse himself for being so clumsy. He spent the rest of the day worrying that this would distract him from his practice.

The first arrow had already struck, but it was the second arrow, his reactivity and the fearful story he added, that deepened his suffering.

The wisdom of the teaching is simple yet powerful. It doesn’t mean ignoring our sadness or pretending pain doesn’t exist. Rather, it invites us to meet ourselves with mindfulness and compassion, so our suffering doesn’t unnecessarily multiply.

As Viktor Frankl wrote: “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

In this space, we pause. We breathe and we meet the moment with presence.

We can choose to accept the situation, make peace with it and do what we can to make the best of it.

And with this awareness, we bring ease where there was once suffering.

Gentle practice

The next time something unexpected arises, a delay, setback or difficult conversation, pause for a moment and ask:

What is the first arrow and what is the second?

Then take a deep breath and rest in the space between stimulus and response.

In that space is freedom.

The freedom to meet ourselves with kindness.

The freedom to let go of the second arrow.

The freedom to choose presence, peace and ease.

Your dream was planted in your heart for a reason.

There’s a version of you already waiting in the future, living your dream life.

And the truth is, they may be far closer than you think…

The future we desire is built on frequencies; the quality of our thoughts, the depth of our emotions, the energy we bring into each day.

In physics, a quantum leap is when a particle moves from one state to another, not gradually, but instantly.

Spiritually, perhaps we are capable of the same kind of transformation.

A quantum leap is about stepping into and embodying the energy of who we’re becoming, right now.

We often think of growth as a ladder, climbing rung by rung. But sometimes life asks us not to climb.

Sometimes it asks us to leap.

The pot of water

Imagine a pot of water.

At 30 degrees, nothing seems to be happening.

At 70 degrees, still nothing.

At 90 degrees, the surface looks almost still.

And then, suddenly, yet gently… everything transforms.

Water becomes steam. Below zero, it becomes ice.

Science calls this a phase transition: a moment when a system absorbs energy for so long with no visible change that, eventually, its entire structure reorganizes itself.

Our lives carry this same wisdom.

So much of our transformation happens beneath the surface, in moments no one applauds. In the discipline no one sees. In the healing no one posts about. In the days we continue anyway.

But most people stop at the 90 degrees, the precise moment before the breakthrough. The moment just before everything shifts.

When we look at leaders, artists or athletes who inspire us, we find the same pattern.

The early mornings. The unseen repetitions. The quiet prayers. The daily habits and commitments.

You can create for three years before one post changes your life. You can train in silence for a decade before the world calls you ‘gifted’.

What appears to be an overnight transformation is often the result of thousands of invisible choices made with presence, devotion and love.

Nothing is wasted. Nothing has been for nothing.

And ultimately, regardless of fame, recognition or external success, the deepest transformation is this:

Becoming the person you were proud to become along the way.

Close your eyes for a moment.

Picture the version of you living your dream life five years from now.

Notice how they carry themselves, what they believe, what they have finally let go of.

What is one thing they would do today, that I could do too?

Then do that one thing.

Because that is the leap.

We’re often taught that speed is progress…that the faster we go, the better we’re doing and that staying busy means we’re moving in the right direction.

But just because we are busy doesn’t mean we’re making progress.

What if slowing down is actually how we move forward? What if the slower we go, the faster we arrive at what truly matters?

So often, rushing and trying to do many things at once takes us further away from ourselves.

When we live at that constant pace, the body can slip into survival mode.

Science describes this as the sympathetic nervous system often known as the fight-or-flight response. In this state, we rely on the part of the brain focused on urgency and short-term decisions.

In this mode, we are also pulled into the “thinking mind”…and we are no longer living with presence and peace.

Meanwhile, the parasympathetic nervous system, the counter-balance to the “fight-or-flight” sympathetic system, promotes a calm state and is essential for long-term health and resilience.

Some ways we can activate the parasympathetic nervous system include deep breathing, meditation and nature walks.

A slow return

When we slow down, we begin to return. To the breath, to the body, and to this moment.

And with this awareness and presence, things begin to feel a little lighter. A little easier and clearer.

Often, with this, we find we end up getting more done. Not by trying to do more, but by giving our full presence to one thing at a time. Slowly, mindfully and joyfully.

May your day be filled with more peace, ease and lightness.

If you’ve ever feel drained or not quite like yourself, it may not be due your schedule… it may be your energy.

Constant noise, interruptions and demands can drain our energy and cloud our clarity. When this happens, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and disconnected from our intuition…our own sense of peace and purpose.

But we have the power to protect our energy.

When we learn to guard it, we begin to live in alignment with our soul’s true desires, rather than outside forces.

In doing so, we protect our peace, joy and ability to manifest the life we desire.

Why protecting our energy is essential

Our energy is sacred because it creates and transforms… and every thought, interaction and experience affects our energy.

Some things raise our vibration, filling us with peace, love and creativity.

Other things leave us tired or unsettled. Negative people or environments can deplete us, making it harder to stay connected to our goals, our true self and inner peace.

5 habits and practices for protecting our energy

1. Set boundaries with love and strength

Setting healthy boundaries means we honour our needs and protect our inner peace. Without them, we leave ourselves vulnerable to the demands and expectations of others.

This means saying no when we need to, limiting time with energy-draining people, and creating space for ourselves to recharge.

2. Cleanse your energy regularly

Just like our physical body needs rest and nourishment, our energy field needs cleansing. Negative emotions and heavy energies can build up, leaving us feeling foggy, stuck or out of alignment. Cleansing our energy can help us restore clarity.

Ways to cleanse energy include:

• Meditation: This is one of the most powerful ways to reset our energy. In silence, we can reconnect with our inner self, release tension and clear away mental clutter.

• Nature walks: Spending time in nature is a natural energy cleanser. The earth has a grounding effect on us, helping to neutralise negative energy and restore balance.

• Baths with Epsom salt: A simple yet effective way to cleanse our energy is by soaking in a bath with Epsom salt. The salt helps draw out negative energy and rejuvenates the spirit.

3. Cultivate a daily practice of mindfulness

Mindfulness helps us stay present and aware of our energy as well as the energy that is being exchanged around us. It allows us to notice what lifts us and what drains us.

Through simple practices like deep breathing, conscious movement or emotional check-ins, we recognise shifts in our energy… helping us choose what supports us the most and what doesn’t serve us.

4. Surround yourself with uplifting people

It is said that: ‘You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.’

Our energy is influenced by the people we spend time with. Supportive, positive and loving people can raise our energy.

We can pay attention to the people we allow into our inner circles.

Do they uplift us, or do they leave us feeling depleted?

In cases where it’s not possible to completely avoid negative people, we can choose to limit our exposure to them and protect our energy. Instead, we can choose to surround ourselves with people who align with our values and energy.

5. Trust your intuition and energy sensitivity

Our intuition is our spiritual compass… guiding us toward situations, people, and experiences that align with our soul’s purpose. And it knows when something isn’t right.

We can honour that feeling and take steps to protect our energy. This could mean leaving a situation early, avoiding negative environments, or simply tuning into our breath to ground ourselves.

Gentle practices

You may wish to do the following practices:

• Morning grounding ritual: Sit quietly for a few minutes, breathe deeply, and visualize yourself surrounded by a protective shield of light. Imagine this light guarding your energy from anything that could drain you throughout the day. Set an intention for your energy: “I will protect my peace, joy and well-being today.”

• Energy check-in: Throughout the day, check in with yourself. How do you feel? Are you being drained by something or someone? Take a moment to reset, breathe deeply, and re-align your energy.

• Evening clearing ritual: Before bed, take time to cleanse your energy. Reflect on your day, release any tension or negativity you’ve picked up, and clear your mind before you sleep. This can be done through meditation, breathwork, or a simple gratitude practice.

There’s a story I love about an old gardener and a young traveler.

The traveler was in a hurry, rushing from one village to the next, never stopping to notice the flowers, the birds or the soft wind on his face. One day, he asked the gardener, “How do you manage to live so peacefully?”

The gardener smiled, picked up a fallen leaf and placed it in the traveler’s palm. “Walk slowly,” he said.

The traveler laughed. “I don’t have time!”

“Then you will miss life,” the gardener replied. “Every step you take in haste is a step away from yourself. Slow down and you will find the wildness of your own spirit waiting.”

Walking slowly is a practice of presence.

Each step invites us to notice the world, feel the earth beneath our feet, breathe deeply and reset.

It is a gentle discipline that awakens awareness and gratitude.

Living wildly is its companion.

Wildness is courage in its purest form.

To live wildly is to embrace life with tenderness and wonder.

It is the courage to honour our true desires and the freedom that comes with it… the openness to follow our curiosity and the joy of being fully ourselves.

A gentle practice

The next time the day feels rushed, pause for a moment. Take a single step slowly. Feel the ground beneath you. Take a deep breath and notice what you see, hear and feel.

Then ask yourself: What is one small way I can bring wonder, curiosity or gratitude into this moment?

These words are more than a gentle reminder, they are a warm invitation to pause and reset.

In our hyper-connected, always-moving world, it’s so easy to equate productivity with constant action… we may feel that if we’re not doing, we’re somehow falling behind.

And yet, paradoxically, our most meaningful ideas and clearest insights tend to arise from moments of stillness.

What if the the greatest power doesn’t come from pushing or forcing, but from softening? What if it simply lies in being still?

The still lake

Stillness is like a calm lake beneath the storm of thoughts. When the surface softens and settles, clarity begins to shimmer into view. Solutions arise naturally and effortlessly, in ways overthinking never quite achieves.

Think of a time when a creative idea seemed to arrive out of nowhere. Perhaps during a morning walk, in the shower, or sitting peacefully in nature.

In these spaces of quiet, our subconscious mind works creatively, weaving insights together.

Stillness reconnects us to the present moment. When we soften into mindful presence, we free the mind and open the door to intuitive understanding.

Often, the answers we seek find us the moment we stop chasing them.

There’s something deeply human about allowing ourselves to simply be.

Take some time to invite micro-moments of stillness into your day. Choose one small pause… Whether it’s five minutes of conscious breathing, a quiet walk or simply sitting in stillness and silence.

These little pauses can become seeds of clarity, calm and creativity. They give our imagination the space it needs to flourish effortlessly.

What if the future version of yourself said the following words to you:

You are doing better than you think. Keep going.

So often, we’re taught to wait for the big breakthrough before we allow ourselves to feel joy and celebrate … the milestones or visible results.

But most progress doesn’t happen at the summit, it happens in the day to day steps that no one sees.

What if we chose honour those steps and celebrate the small wins?

In the book Atomic Habits, author James Clear reminds us that tiny improvements, repeated daily, are what truly shape our lives.

Small choices made consistently.

And those choices deserve to be celebrated. Whether it’s waking up earlier to work on our writing or going for a daily walk in the park. Each step counts.

When we acknowledge the small wins, something beautiful happens. Our nervous system softens, our brain releases a little spark of encouragement and we begin to trust ourselves a little bit more.

Celebration becomes less about ego and more about nourishment.

Thích Nhất Hạnh once spoke of washing the dishes simply to wash the dishes… to feel the warm water, to be fully present for the miracle of being alive.

And perhaps, the very act of being present itself, is the greatest win of all.

A gentle practice

Take a moment to count and celebrate your small wins….

Write down three small wins from the week. These could be simple moments of presence or small positive choices you made in the week.

Then pause, read them back and celebrate each and every small win.

They are the architecture of a life well lived.

There’s a Zen story about a monk who had carried water from the well to the monastery every morning for thirty years.

One morning, he tripped. The bucket fell and the water spilled everywhere.

Frustrated, he looked down and noticed something he had never seen before…a small green shoot pushing up through the soil beneath the path. He felt a sense of peace and joy in that moment.

His teacher later said to him, “Your fall was not a mistake. It was an interruption and interruption is often how life gets our attention.”

Our brains are beautifully designed to learn patterns, predict outcomes and create shortcuts. This intelligence can be helpful in our daily lives.

But when too much of our lives runs on autopilot, we can begin to move through our days without really noticing them. Like the monk from this story, we respond from memory rather than awareness. Days blur together and without realising it, we may find ourselves guided by well-worn patterns.

Neuroscientists refer to this as cognitive rigidity and spiritual traditions have long called it living “asleep”.

Waking up through tiny interruptions

One way to invite awareness back is through small moments of novelty. Tiny, intentional interruptions in our routines.

This can help us meet each moment, with fresh eyes, as if for the first time.

This might look like adjusting our morning routine, taking a different route or rearranging a familiar space.

These subtle shifts interrupt certainty and reopen curiosity. They help us preserve cognitive flexibility and invite a sense of aliveness back into our days.

Gentle practice

If you wish, take a moment to reflect:

What small routine could you gently interrupt today (or this weekend)? Or where could you invite just a touch of novelty or variety into your day? (eg, taking a different walking route, making a new recipe or adding a plant to your writing desk).

May these mini-interruptions invite stillness and bring a renewed sense of ease, joy and wonder into the day.

Spiritually, Kaizen aligns with the intelligence of nature. Mountains are shaped by wind and water over time, rather than one quick force. Trees grow ring by ring, season by season. In the same way, our human spirit evolves through gentle repetition and consistency.

When we practice Kaizen, we honour our own pace and trust that slow progress is still progress.

At its heart it is a wise and deep trust in the unseen… the knowing that tiny actions, repeated daily, quietly compound into extraordinary outcomes.

A gentle practice

Take a moment to ask yourself: What is one tiny thing I can do right now to care for myself in this moment?

Let the answer be small enough that it feels almost too easy.

It could be drinking an extra glass of water in the morning, taking three deep breaths at the start of the day, or walking in nature for an extra five minutes.

Commit to this practice daily.

Each tiny act counts. And over time, these small, consistent micro-actions compound… quietly reshaping our days, and positively transforming our lives.

The blessings of today

At the start of your day, pause and feel the gift of this morning, fresh and full of possibility.

Then take a moment to write down one or two intentions for the day. Things you wish to focus, big or small, that feel truly meaningful.

Allow these intentions to become the gentle guide you return to throughout the day — because what we do today and how we move through each moment is what truly matters.

May each new day bring joy, love and the freedom to begin again.

…And may we unwrap the blessings and the gift of today.

The wonder of laughter

Studies suggest the average 4-year old laughs 300 times a day, while the average adult laughs close to 4.1

Perhaps this is an invitation, to return to what’s always been within us…a natural, effortless joy.

Laughter is one of the most natural reset buttons we have. It loosens any tightness, helps us move through emotions and calms the nervous system. Studies have shown laughter can lower stress, boost immunity and overall well-being.2

But the magic of laughter isn’t only physical.

On a deeper level, laughter is a spiritual release and can heal us from the inside. It reconnects us to the inner childlike joy that lives within us. The kind of joy that doesn’t need a reason to exist. In moments of laughter, we surrender to the present moment and in this surrender comes lightness of being and freedom.

Today, find a reason to laugh. It might be watching one of your favourite comedy shows, listening to a song that brings you joy, hearing a joke or remembering a moment that made you laugh.

Let that feeling fill you.

It’s a gift we can give ourselves anytime we need a reset, release or moment to feel alive again.

This ancient proverb carries deep wisdom that transcends time…. and as we step into 2026, it feels especially relevant.

It can be easy to measure our lives by what we didn’t do. But as another saying goes… it’s better late than never. We can forgive ourselves, let go of what we wish we planted and move forward with a clean slate.

Although we can’t change the past, we can start fresh. We can step into each moment with presence, ease, grace and gentle intention.

Planting seeds of possibility

What if 2026 is exactly the right time? What if every detour or delay, was just preparing the soil?

Every experience, every misstep, every lesson has prepared us for this moment. We know things we didn’t before, we know what matters and that knowing is our fertile soil…

The choices we make now are seeds of possibility, creating the future we desire…

A seed requires patience, water, and care. It grows slowly, often imperceptibly, but over time it becomes shade, fruit, and beauty beyond imagination.

Our dreams, habits and inner growth work the same way. Every small, intentional action is a seed for our future selves. It’s never too late to plant what matters.

The present holds space, possibility and the chance to begin again.
