'Spain Action' involves a ball screen followed by a back-screen (rip screen) for the screener! Coaches every season have added new counters to ‘Spain Action.’

Our last defensive concept from the NBA playoffs is ‘Boxes,’ which is a defensive scheme where all the help defenders are showing their chest to the ball-handler in a box alignment along the elbows and blocks!

There are multiple options to defend 'off-ball' actions in the NBA, but the most common solutions (exclude switching) are:
- Top Lock
- Lock and Trail
- Body In, Body Over

Guard 'Show to Touch' is a Ball Screen Defensive Coverage where the screener's defender will 'show' two to three steps out on the ball screen to force the ball-handler towards half-court! Teams will utilize this specific coverage to stay out of switching the ‘guard to guard’ screening action.

'ICE' Ball Screen Coverage is the on-ball defender forcing the ball-handler to the sideline/ baseline in a ball screen. The defense is eliminating the offense from attacking middle.

The defense wants to keep the ball screen ‘2 on 2’ compared to having extra defenders rotate to help in the coverage. ‘Drop’ coverage is the standard ball screen defense in the NBA because teams can stay out of rotation.

'Drop Coverage' is a ball screen defense where the screener's defender (X5) will retreat to protect the rim and paint!
