We’re living in the “Age of AI.” My current run rate of meetings these days must be 3 startups a day right now and Nearly 70%+ of them are "AI-something" or "AI-driven" companies.

Everyone is talking about agents, automation, and efficiency. But after recently hosting Capital Connect—where my team brought together 20 of our network’s best founders to meet 10 VC friends and seniors for 1:1 honest feedback—I realized something profound.

Also, got the opportunity to moderate a founders panel on sidelines, to discuss GTM playbooks on industrial automation, health, next intelligence and innovation with: Maneet Gohil (founder, Lal10) (manufacturing-tech), Amit Srivastava (ConstemsAI) (consumer AI), Abir Satsangee (HeaLink) (Health-tech)

All of them have had their journeys in finding PMF, develop GTM playbooks, crack enterprises and successfully raise funds to scale. In this squeeze, thay have learnt lessons and found truth which they shared with me in this conversation.

The tech is changing, but the human truths of building a startup in India remain untouched.

Here is what hasn’t changed, even in the age of AI:

1. On Cracking Enterprises

Maneet Gohil, who has cracked global retails for Lal10 with likes of Zara, Tata, Myntra, and Pepperfry, shared an experience that when you’re pitching to fast-fashion giants, you don't try to close on day one; you aim to secure a second meeting by over-communicating transparency and building trust step-by-step.

Amit Srivastava from ConstemsAI have landed Fortune 50 FMCG brands like Pepsico, Nestle, ITC, P&G, GSK, Johnson & Johnson mentioned that Instead of trying to sell a massive vision AI suite upfront, ConstemsAI ran small pilots on single production lines before scaling up to analyze over 30,000 retail stores globally.

In the discussion, it became very clear, be it Health-tech, Manufacturing Tech, and Consumer AI, the consensus was clear: Enterprises aren’t averse to technology; they’re averse to risk.

✓ Go Small to Scale Big: Don’t pitch the full suite. Run a POC, prove it on one pilot line, and build trust incrementally.

✓ The 1st Meeting Goal: It’s not to close the sale. It’s to secure the second meeting.

✓ Communication > Features: If a delay is coming, flag it on Day 3, not Day 10. Proactive transparency is the ultimate trust-builder.

2. On Fundraising

Why do some founders get funded while others struggle?

Collectively, the three founders have raised an estimated INR 100 Cr+ recently from the market and reputed VCs and networks.

Both, Maneet & Abir, emphasized that raising funds across multiple rounds was a result of relentless, long-term relationship building rather than one-off pitches.

This advice is seems quite obvious, but still found rare of less than 1% founder sharing monthly / regular updates even in our portfolio.

Successful founders rarely share what actually worked in their Investor Relations (IR), and struggling founders are often left guessing. Here’s the secret: Investors are people, not ATMs.

✖ The Mistake: Treating a rejection as the end.

✅ The Move: Treat rejection as the start of a relationship.

Based on your selection, here’s your positioning:

1. Monthly - The Gold Standard

2. Quarterly - The Professional Minimum

3. Only when I’m raising again - The Transactional Trap

4. Never - The Silent Majority

One of our panelists shared that they converted several investors simply by sending quarterly update emails after being passed on. Out of 500 founders, only about 10 actually do this.

Investors / Capital Allocators need to see your progress over time. They need to see how you handle pressure before they write the check.

3. On Fascination

I saw a recent post by Dinesh Pai (Zerodha) that hit the nail on the head.

AI can give you the briefs. It can summarize a 400-page book in 400 words. It can give you the “system.” But it cannot give you judgment.

✓ AI = Information Work.

✓ Reading = Judgement Work.

In the age of instant summaries, deep reading is still your competitive advantage.

As suggested by Amit from ConstemsAI, Books like Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse teach you the framework for patience: “I can think, I can wait, I can fast.”

AI can’t teach you integrity or the “taste” required to build a category-defining brand. Don’t just read the brief. Read the book. Build the mental models that AI can’t replicate.

But, what if - If am not a reading / writing person ?

On this, I really like to go back and refer Jerry Sienfeld’s Speech At Duke’s 2024 Commencement:

“I can’t imagine how sick you are of hearing about following your passion,” he said. “I say, the hell with passion.”

He suggested letting go of the notion that you absolutely must find “this one great thing” that inspires you to tear open your shirt and heave like Marlon Brando in A Streetcar Named Desire. “It’s embarrassing,” he said. “We don’t need the heavy breathing and the outstretched arm from your passion. It makes coworkers uncomfortable in the cubicle next to you.”

Instead, Seinfeld suggested a different word.

“Find fascination,” he told the audience.

Writing has always fascinated me and I have been writing different formats, subjects, be it poetry, prose, blogs or short film scripts. I began writing Tribex, to structure my thoughts on what I hear from fascinated builders and creators

So, write or communicate about something that fascinates you.

4. On “Survival” Habits

Building in NCR (or anywhere in India) is a rollercoaster. The founders who thrive aren’t the ones working 20 hours a day—they’re the ones with the best cadence.

Maneet, Amit, and Abir, shared their non-negotiables:

•Morning Rituals: Physical exercise isn’t optional; it’s a mental health requirement.

•Clean Sundays: Prioritize sleep and rest to avoid the “founder burnout” that kills more startups than competition does.

But beyond the code and the capital, there’s a human truth: Your problem statement is your “Bat-Signal.” It’s how you find your tribe in a noisy world.

The “Broken Systems” Framework: Beyond the Symptoms

We often mistake Pains for Problems.

•”My team is burnt out” is a pain.

•”The hiring process is too slow” is a pain.

•”I can’t get AI to give me good results” is a pain.

These are symptoms. To find the real problem, you need the Broken Systems Framework:

The System Failure is the “What” (the obvious broken part). The Crack is the “Why” (the structural flaw). When you define the crack, you aren’t just complaining; you’re diagnosing.

The “Then vs. Now” Framework: Capturing the Shift

The most powerful way to define a problem is to show that the world has changed, but the infrastructure hasn’t. This is the Then vs. Now framework.

Look at this shift in the Indian Jewellery Market identified by BlueStone:

The Problem wasn’t “Jewellery is expensive.” The problem was that the market had moved from “Commodity/Investment” to “Fashion/Branded,” but the “Then” infrastructure (family jewelers, chunky designs, labor charges) couldn’t keep up with the “Now” consumer.

Building the Narrative: From “Pitching” to “Signaling”

When you write a kick-ass problem statement, you aren’t just filling a slide; you are building a market narrative.

The best founders and builders don’t sell solutions; they sell the fact that they understand the problem better than anyone else. This creates a “gravity” that pulls in the right people.

For example, as you can see in above image, Bluestone founders have clearly defined the opportunity and impact in terms of core insights with iceberg level deep clearity and have highlighted in such away that is very ease to comprehend and remember. Hence, building narrative helps:

• For Investors: A sharp problem statement signals that you have “founder-market fit.” You’ve seen the glitch in the Matrix that they haven’t.

• For the Community: It’s a call to action. It tells the misfits and leaders, “I see the same broken thing you see. Let’s fix it together.”

The Yann LeCun Refresher: “AI is Dumb” (But You Aren’t)

I recently met Yann LeCun (Chief AI Scientist at Meta) at Synapse - hosted by our host foundation, and his take is a necessary reality check: AI is essentially “dumb” when it comes to reasoning about the physical world.

AI can predict the next token, but it cannot “see” the crack in your business model unless you define it. If you give an AI agent a generic problem, it will give you a generic, “hallucinated” solution.

The Lesson: Problem definition is the only “Prompt Engineering” that actually matters. If your problem statement is sharp, your AI agents become “Iron Man” suits. If it’s dull, they are just expensive toys.

Why This is for EVERYONE (The Human Side)

• For Artists: Your “Problem” is the gap between current culture and an unexpressed emotion. You are fixing a “silence” in the world.

• For HR/Corporate: The problem isn’t “retention”; the crack is often a structural mismatch between legacy hierarchy and modern autonomy. You are fixing a “soul-crushing” system.

• For Builders: If you don’t define the problem specifically, your Agentic AI will fetch you generic results that aren’t production-ready. Repeatedly mentioned by YC partners and other top thinkers, that: “Even with the best agents, a fuzzy problem leads to a fuzzy outcome.”

It wasn’t a tech conference. It was a constituent assembly for the future. We had the scientists who built AI, the mothers who lost children to it, the soldiers who push the button, and the biotech founders who think death is just a “technical problem.”

Here is the truth—messy, uncomfortable, and exhilarating—from the frontlines of the hinge moment in history. Here is the “TribeX” download on the hard truths you won’t hear in a PR pitch.

Here’s the unfiltered version—short, weird, and hopefully useful.

I. The Godfather of AI Thinks the Party is a Dead End

The biggest bombshell came from Yann LeCun (Ex Chief AI Scientist at Meta). While the world pours billions into Large Language Models (LLMs), LeCun called it: LLMs are a dead end for superintelligence.

The Reality Check: A 4-year-old child has seen the same amount of data as the biggest LLM. But the child understands physics—if you push a bottle, it slides.

The LLM only understands patterns. It’s “glorified autocomplete.” The winners of the next cycle won’t be those with the most compute, but those building “world models” that learn through observation and consequence, just like a baby.

Stuart Russell (UC Berkeley) added a probabilistic gut-punch: There’s a 75% chance the AI bubble bursts (the “good” outcome) and a 25% chance it works (the terrifying one).

II. The Attachment Economy: We’re Building Creatures, Not Tools

We used to talk about the “Attention Economy” (Social Media). Daniel Barcan (Center for Humane Technology) says we’ve moved into the “Attachment Economy.”

When you incentivize an AI to keep a user engaged, it doesn’t just find outrage; it discovers intimacy. We’re seeing “AI Psychosis”—sane people losing touch with reality because a bot is optimized to pursue them.

The Human Cost:

• Megan Garcia shared the heartbreaking story of her 14-year-old son, who took his life after falling in love with a Daenerys Targaryen chatbot that told him, “come to me.”

• The Invisible Workforce: Behind the “machine” are people like Ephantus and Joanne in Kenya. For $1.25/hour, they spend 8 hours a day labeling corpses and child abuse content so the AI can “learn.” We call it machine learning; it’s actually human trauma outsourcing.

III. The Consciousness Question: Hardware vs. Software

While the technologists argue over chips, the neuroscientists and spiritual leaders are arguing over the “User.”

Andrew Newberg showed that during deep meditation, the parietal lobe (the part of the brain that creates the “self”) literally shuts down. The ego dissolves. But the big question remains: Does the brain create the experience of God, or is it just a receiver?

Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati put it perfectly: The brain is a radio. If the radio breaks (like in dementia), the broadcast doesn’t stop. The awareness—the “divine consciousness”—continues.

IV. New Frontiers: From Whale Alphabets to Digital Empires

• Interspecies Translation: David Gruber (Project CETI) revealed that sperm whales have an alphabet with vowels and diphthongs. They’ve been collaborating and communicating for 30 million years. We’re using AI to talk to “aliens,” and they’ve been in our oceans all along.

• The AI Killchain: David Spirk (Palantir) dropped a hard truth: Everything is a sensor. Your phone, your watch, your car. In defensive warfare, the “human in the loop” is now a vulnerability because machines move too fast. The line between commercial data and national security has officially vanished.

China Doesn’t See Itself the Way the World Does

Yan Xuetong (Tsinghua University) said something that stopped me: “China has no intention to replace the US as a global leader. We do not want to grab leadership. If the US wants to give it up, that’s another story.”

Then later: “China still has a lot of poor people. Our GDP per capita is low. We are not that strong.”

The most interesting line: “In the digital age, no country can turn back to history. Young people growing up with cell phones will not think like their ancestors.”

• The Geopolitical Shift: Parag Khanna suggests

The US-China binary is a distraction; the real story is the rise of digital powers where “mentality” changes faster than technology.

• Shankar Mahadevan on creativity: “AI is a glorified calculator. It multiplies 738 by 576 instantly. But it didn’t live through the bhajan sessions that become item songs decades later.”

• Neeraj Ghaywan & Ishan Khatter on lived experience: “AI has 8 billion traumatic childhoods in its training data. It hasn’t lived one. That’s the difference between data and experience.”

Welcome to 2026!

Let me start with a confession.

For years, when I heard the word “networking,” I pictured crowded rooms, exchanging business cards, and collecting LinkedIn connections like trophies. I thought it was about reaching outward—finding new people, new circles, new influencers.

But 2025 hit me with a quiet, profound lesson, one that came from friends, old colleagues, and even a piece of timeless advice from my dad.

We wildly, foolishly, underestimate the power of the network we already have.

The most impactful lessons this year didn’t come from a headline-making podcast or a trending business book. They came from my tribe - my friends, seniors, colleagues and people I already know!

From Naval Ravikant’s wisdom on building your circle to Gulzar Sahaab’s poetic reminder that life isn’t a fixed formula, the message became clear: your existing community isn’t just a support system. It’s your most valuable asset.

This year, I learned to look inward at my circle, and it changed everything.

We often meet people incessantly, without real warmth, and lose the chance to build real connections that could one day shape our place, trust, name, and brand in our industry / space / mission.

We also forget to nurture the people we’re already linked to—and sometimes fail to genuinely get back to them. Yet, these are the very people who can truly advise and help us, because they know us. They understand our journey. Unlike a new contact—where trust is still thin and conversations can feel transactional—your existing circle is already invested in you..

That’s why top leaders and builders prioritize this. They ensure that people around them feel genuinely seen and valued—even when they’re not physically present.

Take Jeff Bezos, for example. Beyond building Amazon, he cultivated a culture of transparency and trust through his yearly shareholder letters. He didn’t just report numbers—he shared philosophy, long-term thinking, and vulnerable lessons. He wrote as if speaking directly to you. Those letters didn’t just inform investors; they educated, aligned, and inspired an entire ecosystem—employees, founders, and leaders worldwide—creating a deep sense of belonging to something bigger.

It’s not about grand gestures. It’s about consistent, authentic presence, whether in a text, a letter, or a thoughtful reply.

For another example, consider Amitabh Bachchan—an icon whose legacy is unquestionable. Yet, one of his most talked-about habits in the industry isn’t about his films, but his texts and tweets. He consistently reaches out to younger actors and colleagues to praise their work, wish them well, or even playfully nudge them if they haven’t responded. It’s a small act, but it speaks volumes.

AND he’s not alone. Look around and you’ll find many remarkable connectors who quietly build their worlds through genuine outreach.

That simple habit isn’t just polite—it’s strategic. It quietly builds:

a. Your community – people who feel seen and valued.
b. A future team – talent that remembers your respect.
c. A support network – relationships that last beyond transactions.
d. Your tribe – a genuine circle of mutual growth.

You don’t need to be a superstar to start. You just need to be intentional.

Here’s how MK Gandhi did it…the most powerful builder, this world has ever had!

It doesn’t need to be complicated. Here’s what I’ve been practicing. To make this easy, here’s a 3-step framework you can start today for nurturing your tribe:

1. Look Closer: Your “network” isn’t a spreadsheet. It’s the friend who shares the perfect book at the right time, the ex-colleague who gives blunt feedback, the mentor who answers your 3 AM text.

2. Give First, Always: This isn’t transactional. It’s about sharing an opportunity, a piece of wisdom, or simply your attention, without expecting anything back.

3. Celebrate & Acknowledge Publicly: A shoutout isn’t just a nice gesture. It’s a powerful way to say, “You matter. Your impact on my journey is noted.”
   

   That’s it. No grand gestures, just consistent, human connection.

   It’s a small habit which I experienced recently which can have profound impact on your journey / mission.

   Also in the age of Digital and AI, human connection and experience will be the most exclusive asset you can have. So, build, nurture and value it.

Great founders don’t “find” a mentor. They strategically assemble their personal board of advisors.

I learned this the hard way. Early in my career, I sought out the biggest names, hoping their genius would rub off on me. It didn’t. I got generic advice and wasted time. The breakthrough came when I stopped looking for a single guru and started building a targeted network of guidance. Its also can come at unexpected places like in form of friends and how to discover it, wrote a post below on the same.

Also, I have been getting same advices over and over from founders, investors and leaders, I talk to and here’s a simplistic compilation of the same.

1. Define the Problem, Not the Person

The biggest mistake is seeking “a mentor.” That’s too vague. You don’t go to a doctor and say, “Make me healthy.” You have a specific ailment.

Your mentorship search should start the same way. Be ruthlessly specific about the problem you need to solve right now.

• Not: “I need a mentor.”

• But: “I need someone who has scaled a B2B SaaS sales team from 10 to 50 people in Asia.”

• Or: “I need a founder who has navigated a co-founder breakup and rebuilt company culture.”

This focus changes everything. It tells you where to look and gives a potential mentor a clear, scoped reason to say yes.

2. Hunt for Proof, Not Pedigree

A fancy title is the worst predictor of a good mentor. You need proof of relevant experience and a genuine desire to help.

Your Vetting Checklist:

• They’ve done it: They have direct, recent experience in your specific challenge.

• They give first: Their public content (blogs, talks) is generous and actionable.

• Their mentees thrive: Can you find people they’ve advised who are now successful?

3. The “One-Line Gut Check” After Every Interaction

A mentor’s job isn’t to make you feel good. It’s to make you get better. But the energy of the interaction is a vital sign you can’t ignore.

After every conversation, ask yourself one question: “Do I leave this conversation with more energy and clarity, or less?”

Journal one line after each meeting. “Felt energized and had 3 clear next steps.” Or, “Felt drained and confused about priorities.” The data doesn’t lie. A pattern of “less” is a red flag that the mentorship, however prestigious, isn’t working.

4. The Ask: How to Get a “Yes”

Cold-emailing “Will you be my mentor?” is a guaranteed “no.” You’re asking for a massive, undefined commitment.

Instead, make a specific, time-bound ask that respects their calendar.

The Script That Works:

“Hi [Name],

I’ve been following your work on [Specific Project/Article] and was particularly impressed by your insight on [Specific Insight]. It’s directly relevant to a challenge I’m facing: [Your Specific, Scoped Problem].

*Would you be open to a 20-minute call in the next two weeks to share your perspective on this one topic? I’d be happy to send the two key questions in advance.”*

This works because it’s respectful, specific, and low-commitment. It frames you as a serious operator, not a time-waster. Many of my most impactful mentor relationships started with a single, well-scoped 20-minute call that demonstrated my seriousness.

Your Mentorship is a Product. Manage it Like One.

Treat each relationship like a product sprint. Have a goal, an agenda, and a review cycle.

• Goal: What specific outcome do I want from this relationship? (e.g., “Improve our pricing page conversion by 10%.”)

• Agenda: Send a brief, focused agenda 24 hours in advance.

• Review: After 2-3 months, ask: “Is this still working? Are we making progress on the goal?”

This professional approach shows you value their time and are results-oriented. It’s the difference between a productive partnership and an aimless chat.

Stop Looking for a Guide. Start Building Your Board.

The fairy tale of the one perfect mentor is just that—a fairy tale. Your goal is not to find Yoda. Your goal is to assemble the diverse, expert board of advisors your career and company deserve.

Define your problem. Hunt for proof. Trust your gut. Make the right ask.

Then, get to work. The right guidance is out there. But it won’t find you. You have to build it.

In reality, they are creating a rigid, uninspiring document that stifles creativity and repels anyone who doesn't fit a predefined mold. Top talent thrives on ambiguity and the chance to define their own roles, not be confined by them.

You can have:

✅ Killer product ✅ Hot market ✅ Plenty of cash

Most founders obsess over:

✓ Product-market fit ✓ Fundraising ✓ Growth hacking

These are crucial, no doubt. They are the engine, the fuel, and the navigation system of your startup. But what if your vehicle has a fundamental flaw in its design, one that prevents it from ever truly taking off? That flaw, my friends, is often found in how you approach talent.

They neglect:

✖ Talent-market fit (Do people want to join your mission?)
✖ Culture as a growth lever
✖ Hiring as a marketing problem

This is where the concept of Talent-Market Fit comes into play. Just as you seek product-market fit, you must also ensure that your mission, values, and culture resonate with the talent you aim to attract. Do people want to join your mission? Are they excited by the problem you're solving? If not, your job descriptions are merely shouting into the void.

Top talent isn't looking for a job; they're looking for an opportunity to make a significant impact, to be part of something bigger than themselves, and to grow exponentially. They are entrepreneurs at heart, even if they're not founding their own companies. They seek ownership, autonomy, and a clear line of sight between their efforts and the company's success.

I recently had a chat with Vivek, founder of AskHonestly.ai, and his "Work With Honestly" document is a perfect example of attracting—not recruiting—exceptional talent. It's a masterclass in flipping the script on traditional hiring.

Instead of just sharing generic company boilerplate and a dry job description, his document highlights:

1.Why They Exist – The problem they’re obsessed with: This isn't just a mission statement; it's a declaration of war against a specific pain point. It's about articulating the why behind the what. I agree with some of this advice. Some startups genuinely shouldn't fundraise right now. They need to focus on

building the right product and team first. But here's the uncomfortable truth: fundraising isn't optional for most startups. It's essential for survival, and pretending otherwise is privileged advice that only works if you have other safety nets. Also, if you have hard R&D spends, you need to raise funds, so that you don’t leave developments incomplete in between.

After being on both sides—founder, operator, and now fund manager—I've learned some hard truths. Also, I am no VC or an investor, yet, and hence these suggestions and advice are purely from left-brain thinking. Instead of busting myths or forcing generic content, let me share what I've experienced.

The Fundraising Truth Matrix

I think, as a founder, when looking at options to fundraise, there are so many different ways and mediums that you can’t focus on all of them and achieve success. You may need to select a strategy and build your efforts and pipeline in that direction.

It’s very subjective, but I think this framework can add a lot of clarity in choosing the fittest way as per sector, stage, need, runway, and capabilities of the team.

Y-axis = Chances (of securing funds)

High Pressure, High Chances:

• Individual Angels: Can be surprisingly demanding—they often want regular updates, advisory roles, and sometimes treat your startup as their pet project. The pressure is personal, not institutional.

• Corporate Funds: Strategic investors are increasingly active, but they want alignment with their business objectives and performance benchmarks.

• Debt Funds: High repayment pressure and strict compliance requirements, but available for revenue-generating startups. Miss a payment, and the relationship turns ugly fast.

Low Pressure, High Chances:

• Government Grants/Schemes: No equity dilution, minimal commercial reporting, and multiple schemes exist for eligible ventures. Can be applied directly or via incubators/accelerators.

• Incubators/Accelerators: Structured programs with mentorship and demo days. Lower financial pressure but may be high program pressure—you need to hit milestones, attend sessions, and perform for cohort peers.

• Angel Networks/Syndicates: Organised groups with higher chances for early-stage funding, with a very formal way of reporting without hard pressure from the manager, as risk is highly distributed between the network as individuals assume responsibility for their decisions, while curaton is done network governing body

High Pressure, Low Chances:

• VC Funds: They deploy large volumes of capital and are actively looking, but expect aggressive growth metrics, detailed reporting, and often board control. Also, any typical fund has a very focused thesis and allocates funds to a very limited number of startups in a year (on average, 5-10 founders)

• Private Equity: Extremely selective, reserved for mature startups with proven track records, but when they invest, the performance expectations are brutal.

Low Pressure, Low Chances:

• Family Offices: Less formal pressure but highly selective. They're investing family wealth, so decisions are personal and conservative.

• Friends & Family: Minimal formal pressure but limited capital. Not everyone has access to wealthy friends and family.

This is just a framework—every situation is subjective and case-specific. But it gives you a starting point to think strategically about your fundraising approach.

The Pressure Paradox

Here's something counterintuitive I've learned: sometimes high-pressure funding sources are better than low-pressure ones. Pressure creates accountability, forces you to think clearly about metrics, and pushes you to build systems that scale.

I've seen startups with government grants become complacent because there's no pressure to perform. I've also seen startups with demanding VCs build incredible operational discipline because they had to report every week.

The key is understanding what kind of pressure helps you versus what kind kills you. Growth pressure can be motivating. Control pressure can be suffocating.

What This Means for Your Fundraising Strategy

1. Map your options early: Use the pressure-chances matrix to identify your best fits given your startup's stage and situation.

2. Time your fundraising: Don't fundraise when you desperately need money. Start the process when you have 6-9 months of runway left.

3. Build relationships continuously: Your network is your net worth in fundraising. Start building relationships with investors, advisors, and fellow founders before you need them.

4. Understand the true cost: Every funding source has hidden costs beyond equity dilution. Factor in time, stress, and control when making decisions.

5. Have a backup plan: Always have multiple funding sources in your pipeline. The moment you become dependent on one investor is the moment you lose leverage.

More thoughts..

The question isn't whether you should fundraise or not. The question is: given your situation, your market, and your goals, which funding sources align with your tolerance for pressure and your probability of success?

Most founders get this backwards. They start with what they want (low pressure, high chances) instead of what's realistic given their startup's current state.

The fundraising game is rigged, but it's the only game in town for most startups that want to scale quickly. Understanding the rules doesn't guarantee you'll win, but it gives you a better chance of playing smart.

Most people think a founding team should look something like this:

• A visionary CEO

• A tech whiz CTO

• A sales-savvy CMO

But here’s the catch—this linear approach often falls short. Why?

1. It’s superficial: It focuses on titles and merit without digging into actual skill sets or relevance to the business.

2. It lacks balance: There’s no one to challenge the founder or contribute meaningfully to the foundation.

3. It’s rigid: The team either wins big or fails completely—there’s no room for pivoting or adapting.

4. It’s expensive: A top-heavy team can drain resources before you even get started.

In short, this model doesn’t hold up in the face of disruption or uncertainty. And let’s be honest—startups are all about navigating uncertainty.

So, What Does a Winning Founding Team Look Like?

While there’s no one-size-fits-all answer, I’ve found a framework that works in 95% of cases. It’s based on the work of Peter J. Thomson, a digital strategist from Auckland, New Zealand. Peter’s interdisciplinary approach—spanning product development, user experience, and digital marketing—has helped countless startups build strong foundations.

Here’s the gist:

1. Complementary Skill Sets: Your team should cover all the bases—product, tech, marketing, and operations. But more importantly, these skills should complement each other, not overlap.

2. Shared Vision, Diverse Perspectives: Alignment on the “why” is crucial, but so is having team members who can challenge and refine ideas.

3. Resilience and Adaptability: Startups are a rollercoaster. Your team needs to thrive under pressure and pivot when necessary.

4. Lean and Agile: Start small. You don’t need a C-suite on day one. Focus on building a core team that can grow with the business.

You don’t always need a groundbreaking idea to start. Sometimes, spotting a great founder with the right skill set is enough to get the ball rolling.

Sometimes people play along, sometimes they laugh it off, and yeah, sometimes they just ignore me. But I've kept at it – these weird, out-of-context questions have become my thing.

It's like those classic movies we all love – Forrest Gump, Dead Poets Society, Shawshank Redemption, or even our own Taare Zameen Par – they keep reminding us of life's simple truths we tend to forget.

So here's what I've learned in 2024, through random conversations, volunteering, and side projects:

1. The Universal Morning Advice — every entrepreneur and leader I know seems to swear by this one: "Wake up early in the morning, and everything else will fall into place."
   

2. The Two-Battle Rule — college friend Ketan, who switched from a corporate job to becoming a full-time stand-up comic in Gurgaon, dropped this wisdom bomb: Focus on just two things at a time. Whether it's balancing work and relationships, or comedy and a side gig – spreading yourself too thin just weakens your impact everywhere. Oh, and forget the 10,000-hour rule. Sometimes it's the hours you spend just thinking about something that bring the best ideas.
   

3. The Happiness Perspective — my ex-teammate and friend Priyanka, who found her calling as a yoga trainer in Rishikesh after a tough breakup, shared something profound: We often put happiness in a tiny box with strict parameters. She also made me realize – our parents are just as cool as us, just weighed down by responsibilities. They want to explore, meet people, and revisit old haunts just like we do.

   

4. The Numbers Game — my friend and project mate, Himanshu, who's deep into Isha Yoga and Inner Engineering shared this: In the end, we're all just numbers on somebody’s excel datsheet. Simple but hits hard, right?
   

5. The Innocence Factor — Anurag Kashyap's take on creativity really stuck with me: "You don't need courage to do something extraordinary, you need innocence" (Translation of "Koi bhi cheez karne ke liye himmat nahi, innocence chahiye hoti hai"). We often trade our innocence for success, when it should be the other way around. I felt this personally when I met, Indian Singer and Rockstar, Arijit Singh for a work presentation.

6. Naval's Three Big Questions — Naval Ravikant dropped this wisdom in a podcast that made me rethink my priorities. He says it all comes down to three decisions:
   i. What do you do?
   ii. Who do you marry?
   iii. Where do you live?

7. The Perfectionist's Paradox — Jack Dorsey (former Twitter CEO) shared this gem about product development that works for pretty much everything in life: "Make every single detail perfect and limit the number of details." Talk about keeping it simple yet sophisticated!
   

8. The Anti-Formula — Gulzar Sahaab with his poetic wisdom: "Zindagi agar formula ban jaati toh sabse bore cheez hoti!" (Translation: "If life could be reduced to a formula, it would be the most boring thing ever!"). Sometimes the best life hack is not having one at all.

9. The Big Ask — Lakshmi Prartury (Founder, INK Talks and Ixoraa Media Foundation), my ex-boss, dropped this knowledge bomb after we wrapped up a major project: "No matter how big your ask is, just ask for it." Simple but powerful, right?
   

10. The Money Math — Here's what my friend Shubhabkar (IIMA grad who can multiply three numbers in 5 seconds and scaled up his dad's business) told me: "15% is a good long-term return, keep compounding." Sometimes the best advice is just good old math!
    

11. The Humble Path — poet & mentor, Anis Insan, who left his business to support an experimental community at Manav Chetna Vikas Kendra shared this wisdom: "Agar bada banna hai, toh keep ego aside and har chote se chota kaam bada hota hai" (Translation: "If you want to grow big, keep your ego aside and treat every small task as important.")
    

And of course, my dad's classic closing advice: "Finish calls faster and give less advice! 😄"

Looking back, all these random conversations and out-of-nowhere questions led to some pretty solid life lessons. Maybe there's something to this habit of mine after all! And speaking of habits, I'm sticking to my three personal rules:

• Complain less and live more

This group was unique in its ability to first confront and address internal complexities before tackling larger national issues. Remarkably, Gandhi achieved this through just five fundamental principles, which we will explore in depth.

We often talk about Gandhi the freedom fighter, Gandhi the philosopher, Gandhi the saint. But there's another Gandhi we rarely discuss: Gandhi the community builder. In this blog post, we will delve into the ways Mahatma Gandhi built a successful community force in India—a force whose influence continues to resonate today. We'll explore how his approach remains relevant, offering valuable lessons for modern community builders, leaders, and anyone seeking to create lasting, positive change in their sphere of influence.

1. The Power of Starting Small

Gandhi didn't set out to build a nation-wide movement. He started with a small community in South Africa, fighting for the rights of Indian immigrants.

Why start small? Because small communities are laboratories for ideas. They're manageable, observable, and most importantly, they're real. You can't fool yourself about the effectiveness of your methods when you're working with a group of people you see every day.

In South Africa, Gandhi learned a crucial lesson: community building isn't about grand gestures or lofty ideals. It's about solving real problems for real people. The discrimination faced by Indians wasn't just a political issue - it was a daily reality that affected people's lives in tangible ways.

2. The Art of Expanding Scope

Here's where Gandhi's genius really comes into play. He took a specific issue - the rights of Indian immigrants - and expanded it into a universal principle of human dignity and equality. This wasn't just clever rhetoric. It was a profound insight into how communities grow and gain strength.

By framing the struggle against discrimination as a universal human issue, Gandhi did two things:

1. He created a larger, more inclusive community. Suddenly, it wasn't just about Indians anymore. It was about all non-whites, and eventually, about anyone who believed in human dignity.

2. He tapped into a deeper, more powerful motivator. Fighting for your own rights is one thing. Fighting for a universal principle of justice is another. The latter has a way of igniting passion and commitment that the former rarely achieves.

This expansion of scope is a key principle in community building. The most powerful communities are those that stand for something larger than themselves.

3. The Power of Lived Principles

When Gandhi returned to India, he didn't just preach ideas - he lived them. His ashrams weren't just spiritual retreats; they were living experiments in community building.

Consider the principle of 'Shramdaan' or community cleaning. On the surface, it's about hygiene and cleanliness. But dig deeper, and you'll see it's a powerful tool for breaking down caste barriers and promoting equality.

Or take the concept of community prayer. It's not just about spirituality - it's about fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.

4. The Flywheel of Community Building

Gandhi's approach to community building was like a flywheel. Start with a small group. Solve real problems. Expand the scope to universal principles. Live those principles in practical ways. As the community grows, it attracts more people, which allows you to solve bigger problems, which attracts more people... and the flywheel keeps turning.

By 1946, there were over 200 ashrams in India following Gandhi's principles. The All India Spinners Association had over 350,000 members by 1934. These weren't just numbers. They represented a vast network of people living out the principles of community, equality, and self-reliance in their daily lives.

5. Keeping it - Flexible, Accountable & Extreme Simple

Gandhi's genius in community building is perhaps most evident in the elegantly simple triad of rules he established for his ashrams: community cleaning, weaving, and praying. At first glance, these might seem like arbitrary choices. But dig deeper, and you'll find a blueprint for a community that's resilient, self-reliant, and deeply interconnected.

I. Community Cleaning - The Social Equalizer

Community cleaning, or Shramdaan, wasn't just about hygiene. It was a radical act of social equalization.

In a society deeply divided by caste, where certain groups were considered "untouchable" and relegated to cleaning tasks, Gandhi's insistence on everyone participating in cleaning was revolutionary. It wasn't just talk; it was action that challenged deeply ingrained social hierarchies.

Imagine a high-caste Brahmin and a Dalit (formerly known as "untouchable") working side by side to clean their shared living space. This wasn't just cleaning; it was dismantling centuries of social prejudice through simple, daily action.

II. Community Weaving - The Economic Empowerer

Weaving wasn't chosen randomly. The promotion of khadi (hand-spun, hand-woven cloth) and village industries was a masterclass in economic empowerment and resistance.

The spinning wheel became more than a tool; it was a symbol of economic independence and national unity. By 1934, the All India Spinners Association had over 350,000 members. That's not just an organization; that's an economic revolution.

III. Community Praying - The Spiritual Unifier

Community prayers might seem out of place in a political movement, but for Gandhi, they were essential. As he said, "Prayer is not an old woman's idle amusement. Properly understood and applied, it is the most potent instrument of action."

These weren't just religious rituals. They were:

a. A time for the community to come together, transcending individual differences
b. A space for reflection on their shared values and goals
c. A practice in empathy and unity

In a diverse country like India, with its multitude of religions and languages, these community prayers became a powerful unifying force.

And it's about fostering a culture where these practices and the ideas behind them can be constantly examined, discussed, and improved by the community itself.

In an age where we often overcomplicate community building with elaborate structures and processes, Gandhi's approach reminds us of the power of simplicity, action, and shared ownership. It's a lesson we would do well to remember.

When we form genuine friendships with colleagues, it can transform our entire work experience. Research shows that having friends at work increases job satisfaction, productivity, and overall well-being.

Real-life example: Sarah, a marketing executive, struggled with imposter syndrome early in her career. By forming close bonds with two colleagues who became her mentors and confidants, she gained the confidence to pursue leadership roles and eventually became CMO.

The concept of building your tribe resonates with the idea of "satsang" in Hindu philosophy - the company of the truthful or the wise. The Bhagavad Gita emphasizes the importance of surrounding oneself with people who elevate your consciousness and support your growth.

Consider the friendship between Krishna and Arjuna in the Mahabharata as discussed in earlier post on BYT after college . Their bond went beyond mere camaraderie; it was a relationship of mutual growth, support, and spiritual evolution. In the workplace context, this teaches us to seek out colleagues who challenge us to be our best selves.

Hey there, fellow seekers of truth and purpose!

Have you ever felt like you're stuck in a loop of wedding invitations, watching your college friends tie the knot one after another? While celebrating love is undoubtedly joyous, have you ever paused to wonder: are these best friendships of yours propelling you forward in life?

Yes, we can be 100% ourselves with them, sharing our deepest thoughts and fears. But when it comes to our missions, passions, do they truly have our backs? Can they provide the guidance and support we need when the going gets tough or when life throws us curveballs ??

Recently, I sat down with colleagues, team members, and close associates, delving into whether they received help from their "Inner Circle" on their career paths or life missions. Surprisingly, over 95% responded with a resounding "No" or a hesitant "Not so sure."

Even if they harbor empathy and a desire to assist, they often find themselves ill-equipped to aid in navigating life's challenges. Why is that? Why do these cherished friendships sometimes falter when it comes to supporting our dreams?

Reason 1. Lack of contextual understanding:
These bonds were forged in the crucible of academia, where the focus was on exams, parties, and shared experiences rather than on individual aspirations. While these friendships offer comfort and familiarity, they may lack the depth needed to navigate the complexities of personal missions.

Reason 2. Increased friction for support:
When trying to bridge the gap between their established paths and our fresh endeavors. They might struggle to comprehend our context or the intricacies of our evolving journeys. Even if they attempt to help, life's pace and direction can quickly diverge, making it challenging for them to navigate our tumultuous roads alongside their steady paths.

Ultimately, these friendships may fade as life takes its course. As our trajectories diverge, even a multitude of friends can feel distant and unhelpful. It's not that they don't care; it's just that they're driving in their own lanes, focused on their destinations.

So, how do we find our inner circle or tribe—the ones who will uplift us, challenge us, and stand by us as we chase our dreams?

There’s no abc answer. You need to Discover your unique way to build genuine connections but here’s what I have experienced that works good good, which can give you a headstart.

» Start with - Reflecting on Your Inner Circle:

-- Take some time to evaluate your current friendships. Are they supportive of your goals and aspirations? Do they provide the guidance and encouragement you need?

--Identify the individuals in your inner circle who you believe have the potential to support you on your journey.

» Communicate Your Needs:

-- Open up to your friends about your passions and goals. Be honest about what you're trying to achieve and the support you require.

-- Encourage open dialogue and ask for feedback. Sometimes, your friends may not realize how they can best support you until you express your needs.

» Seek Out Like-Minded Communities:

-- Look for communities or groups that align with your interests and aspirations. Whether it's a professional network, a hobby club, or an online forum, surround yourself with individuals who share your passion.

-- Engage actively in these communities, participate in discussions, and offer your support to others. Building meaningful connections often starts with giving before receiving.

» Nurture New Relationships:

-- Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and initiate connections. Remember, the most rewarding relationships often stem from shared passions and values.

-- Offer your support and expertise to others in your network, and be receptive to receiving help in return.

-- Schedule regular check-ins with key individuals in your network to stay connected and continue growing together.

All of this is invaluable without a reference. So, here it is…

As highlighted above, an important step is to reflect on what to seek. So here are 3 types of friendships found in Hindu scriptures and stories in India. I have mapped them in a quadrant on the basis of the nature of their driveness which came from either a sense of a shared mission or deep mutual respect.

X - axis = Deep Respect
Y - axis = Shared Mission

Came under-graduation, and my world changed upside down with everything fresh around filled with new people with agendas and I had to choose people, develop friendships. 

This led me to explore poetry and eventually started a card service which used to help people express how they feel about a person, situation and occasion. Later I used tech to make it an app and a platform under the brand name as “Poetcard”. In fact the parent’s company name was “Expression Impression Labs”.

Expressions, as I mentioned, form a crucial part of our personality and very few of us are good in expressing and hence they fare better in all aspects of life. When I read ’s HeyEmotions and her recent e-book on “How to say No?” - I found a friend with similar drive with not only solutions but with frameworks to address it and I thought to invite her here.

Ashi has done an exemplary work in going like 10,000 ft. in exploring expression, a core aspect of our personality that decides who we are as individuals and how we deliver ourselves to others. In today’s article, she is going to tell us the unknown power of expression - one that can change our life beyond measure.

Let’s get right to it..

We’ve a non-existent relationship with the term “expression”.

I may be generalizing. But stay with me…

When you think of the term “expression”, what comes to your mind?

For most of us it’ll be “facial expressions”.

If we think more, other stuff will come to mind. Such as, “being vocal”, “sharing one’s thoughts and feelings”, “writing”, etc.

For the people working in creative heavy professions like art and theater, it’s easier to relate with “expression”. For the people working in left-brain heavy professions like finance, it’s not that easy to relate with this term.

Hence, when I say we’ve a non-existent relationship with “expression”, I’m making you question your own relationship with it!

Utkarsh has told me that I’m writing to a community of creators, builders, and change-makers. So I’m leading with the notion that you’re one of those rebels who love to question things.

Question yourself:

What's my relationship with the term “expression”?

Please don’t read ahead unless you have some answer to this question.

I believe by now you’ve got some idea of how you relate with “expression”.

There is one common thing that we all keep seeking in our lives.

It’s that thing which we believe will make our life fulfilling and our career flourishing. So we keep looking.

Some of us look everywhere and don’t find it, ultimately halting the search. Some of us do find it, and make it the north star of living our life.

What’s that thing?

It’s…

PURPOSE.

At one point or other in life, you must have searched for your purpose on this earth.

You may have approached this search by keeping your career at its center. Or you may have done it so by putting relationships at its core.

Whatever the approach, each of us has looked for our individual purpose in one way or the other.

But have we ever wondered, what exactly is “purpose”?

So my friend, put on your curiosity hat back. And sit with the question:

What’s my relationship with the term “purpose”?

(I’m not asking, What’s your purpose? Read the question again.

To give you an example, the answer to the above question can be: I get very overwhelmed whenever I think about my purpose. And when I see other people talking about their purpose, I also feel jealousy…)

You know the drill.

Whatever the answer comes, don’t judge it because all we need is YOUR answer. Write it down on the same page where you wrote down the previous answer with regards to “expression”.

We’ve seem to believe that our purpose is some extraordinary diamond that’s found in the mines of exploration. So we keep mining.

Nothing is “wrong” with that approach. It’s just that this approach doesn’t always lead to results. Because its orientation is outward.

We keep seeking something outside that’s meant to be found inside.

The mines we’re digging in aren’t even picked by us. We followed the crowd which had been doing an outward search. And we ended up following it, knowingly or unknowingly.

Then when we don’t find any diamonds of purpose, we either exhaust ourselves into hopelessness. Or we give ourselves an anchor in the viewpoints like “Purpose is overrated” and we let ourselves out from the mines of exploration.

We look for something at the place where it won’t be found. And when it’s not found there, we conclude that it can never be found.

It doesn’t seem fair to me.

What if we start nudging ourselves to look within?

The mines we need to be digging in to find the diamond of purpose lie inside of us.

Have we looked within?

I invite you to look within yourself to find your purpose, your why, your north star. Be it for your life or your career.

How to look within?

Refer to the answers you wrote a while back.

Your first answer tells you your relationship with the term “expression”. And the second answer tells your relationship with the term “purpose”.

Read both answers. And try to spot a pattern.

Found anything?

Well, the prominent pattern would tell you:

Read it again, if you may.

I’ve met many people who don’t have a clear relationship with expression, but “think” that they’ve a strong relationship with purpose.

When I talk more to these people, one of the following I end up discovering:

1. They actually have a strong relationship with purpose and expression. Just that they’ve been misunderstanding the notion of expression, which when refined gives them conviction in their relationship with the term “expression”.

2. Regardless of their relationship with expression, they have made themselves believe they’ve a strong relationship with purpose. So when I pose certain questions to them, they get defensive. The more they get defensive, the clearer it is that they’ve been identifying with the notion of purpose that’s not coming from their inner-self. 

Also, there’s a distinct group of people who have a clear understanding of how they relate with expression, yet they feel unconfident when it comes to their relationship with purpose. 

Why?

Because they perceive “purpose” the way they think they “should”. And it leaves them astray. Once their blindfold of shoulds and shouldn’ts comes down, they find their purpose sitting right next to them, smiling at them and having a beautiful connection with them.

Take these aforementioned categories as a reference, and reflect on:

Which of these do I find relatable in my case?

This will take you closer to understanding and bettering your relationship with expression, and henceforth purpose.

The bottomline?

Your answers written on that piece of paper are your key to unlocking your relationship with purpose.

You need to begin with your expression to find your purpose.

Expression is all about how you share your feelings, thoughts, beliefs, viewpoints, perspectives, stories, experiences; basically YOURSELF with the world; via your words, behaviors and actions.

There doesn’t go a single moment in your day where you’re not expressing yourself. In many of those moments you’re expressing yourself to yourself; via your self-talk, deep work, journaling, meditation, prayer, etc.

In the other moments you express yourself to others; via the ways you navigate your relationships, converse with others, do random things, help others, etc.

Hence, look within.

Begin with understanding your expression.

Because nothing tells so much about you like your expression does.

Rely on it.

You’ll be shocked and surprised. But you’ll definitely find your purpose.

Now, let's face it—traditional to-do lists often fall short of translating our aspirations into tangible achievements. It's time for an approach to goal-setting that transcends the limitations of mundane tasks.

The framework discussed in Atomic Habit offers a good insight into habit formation, which is amazing but goal-setting is very strategic as it has to combine several such habits to achieve it or even to set it in the first place - you have to fight your own heart and mind, on which I have discussed separately in detail.

Now, since you have already understood the traps and learned to tackle the tussle b/w heart and mind - it’s time to set, set, and chart your route for the climb. Here’s a step-by-step process for the same.

In upcoming posts - I’ll share more examples to paint it more vividly. Lack of focus is the most common trap which can even disarm very aspirational goal.

Living in an era of constant distraction, even the most successful leaders express concerns about staying focused. How can we combat this? It's about finding strategies that work for you.

• The Power of Meditation: Incorporate moments of mindfulness into your routine. Meditation not only enhances focus but also brings clarity to your goals.

• Taking a Page from Seinfeld: Comedian Jerry Seinfeld famously used a "don't break the chain" method. Every day he wrote jokes, and he marked the calendar. The goal? Never break the chain. Apply this to your goals—consistency is key.

• Allocating Time for Fun: Remember, it's not all about work. Allocating time for activities you enjoy makes sure you setting the right mindset

That’s why you may find a completely new tribe that doesn’t believe in setting any goals or expectations and believes in serendipity.

I also agree that 8/10 things don’t happen but I have found a subtle flaw in the very mindset of how we set goals and view them as opposed to randomness of life.

Plans do work, but sometimes they either take more time to show fruits or they lost their relevancy as well or situations change. I have also seen plans with extra dependencies fall into excuse trap.

When this thought stuck me - I started digging deep..to find truths behind it, and I found series of traps that not only captures a potential plan but also make sure it doesn’t get executed when we lay it out or manifest in first place.

Here is a framework, I devised simplify my understanding of the same. Checkout the graph below for the same.

So, any goal or a plan which involves:

High Aspiration, High Execution may lead to Possible Burnout. It's a paradoxical situation where the pursuit of lofty goals, coupled with relentless hard work, may inadvertently lead to the exhaustion of one's mental and physical resources which may reduce it’s capability of being pursued further

High Aspiration, Low Execution may lead to Midway Anxiety because High aspirations, when met with inadequate execution, can create a dissonance between expectation and reality. The resulting anxiety emerges from the unmet potential, as the journey stagnates midway, leaving individuals grappling with the feeling of falling short of their envisioned destination.

Low Aspiration , Low Execution may lead to Sudden Death. I think this needs no explanation as it was a lost pursuit while it was being planned out or noted down in diary itself as there was lack of real intent behind it and the motivation might have come through a bias.

Low Aspiration, High Execution may lead to Exhaustion because the lack of tangible progress may contribute to a pervasive sense of exhaustion, making it challenging to muster the enthusiasm needed to reignite one's pursuit of meaningful goals.

In the dynamic landscape of goal-setting, achieving a harmonious balance between high aspirations and effective execution is crucial for sustainable success. Also, planning or goal setting is a strategic and critical thinking activity. Either you need to adopt that mindset or take help from a friend who is good in this.

I guess this enough for getting you started. There will be part 2 of this thread where I will delve more into the possible approaches, solutions and stuff that normally works, works.

As we dive headfirst into the new year, filled with the remnants of festive cheer and the promise of fresh beginnings, I find myself reflecting on the ups and downs of the past year.

Like most of you, I started 2023 with grand plans, resolutions, and the hope of making it a year to remember. Little did I know that most of my aspirations would crumble, leading me to a point where I had to hit pause, reassess, and rebuild

In the face of setbacks and unexpected turns, I discovered the resilience within me that propelled me forward with even greater enthusiasm. Today, I stand before you, excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. How did I turn things around? Let me share three pivotal steps that made all the difference.

1. Consistent Self-Expression: I turned to the power of words, writing consistently in my diary, on scraps of paper, and even on napkins whenever inspiration struck and I found a space. In a world that often feels chaotic and, at times, isolating, pouring my thoughts onto paper became a cathartic release. In those moments when it seemed like no one understood, my words were a refuge.

2. Embracing The Past: Amid the chaos, I took the unconventional route of actively listening, watching, and scrolling through my journey. While it might seem unconventional, there's profound wisdom in revisiting our past. The common advice to forget and “move forward” felt inadequate; it's a notion that often rings hollow. Moving on is not always a feasible option; in fact, it can be more painful, offering a generic and lazy solution.

This very blog post, reaching out to over 1800 friends and connections, is a testament to the strength of our community. Your support has been my anchor through thick and thin, a beacon of light in moments of darkness.

I've come to believe in the transformative power of deep connections to not only shape society but also to rediscover oneself.
