We’re heading into the autumn equinox this month — the halfway mark of the spiritual year, that natural checkpoint where the energy of the world shifts whether we’re ready or not. Kids go back to school. College starts up. We move into what I call the harvest season, that stretch that carries us toward the holidays. There’s a collective energy of closing out the summer and asking ourselves who we want to be for the back half of the year.

This is the energy of the “great lock in.” Head down. Focused. Mastering whatever it is — a craft, a habit, a lifestyle change, a mindset.

But to really understand the Eight of Pentacles, you have to remember where it sits in the story of the pentacles suit. In the Three of Pentacles, we’re apprentices — sitting under someone, learning, absorbing. In the Seven of Pentacles, we’re the gardener — we’ve planted the seeds, and now we’re standing back, watching, waiting, tending. By the time we arrive at the Eight, those seeds have germinated. We’re not planning anymore. We’re not apprenticing anymore. We are in the soil now — pulling weeds, tending what’s growing, doing the actual daily work of cultivation.

I see this constantly in the therapy room. A client comes in, and for a while, the work is telling the story. Venting it. Getting it out. And that’s necessary — that’s real work. But at some point, a shift happens, and the client says: I know how to cope now. I know how to recognize where I am. What I want now is to heal. I want to stop returning to the same spaces. I want to understand my triggers well enough to actually change my relationship to them.

That shift — from processing to practicing — is Eight of Pentacles energy. It’s the difference between knowing and doing. And this month is asking you where in your life you’re still circling the planning stage when the seeds have already germinated and the real work — the unglamorous, daily, unwitnessed work — is what’s actually being asked of you.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Catching the Thought Before It Becomes the Pattern

CBT rests on a simple but powerful premise: our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are constantly influencing one another in a loop. Change the thought, and you interrupt the loop before it becomes the behavior. Change the behavior, and eventually the thought reorganizes around the new evidence.

The Eight of Pentacles is asking you to actually work that loop instead of just naming it. This is the difference between insight and intervention. Insight says, “I notice I self-sabotage when things start going well.” Intervention says, “Here’s my plan for the next time I notice that thought showing up, and here’s exactly what I’m going to do instead.”

This card wants you in the intervention seat. Not analyzing the pattern from a distance, but actually catching the thought mid-flight and redirecting it — the way you’d gently but firmly redirect a toddler who’s headed toward something dangerous. You’ll hear me describe this in my own process as “walking it back.” I’m doing too much — let me walk that back. That’s not the correct narrative — let me walk that back. That instinct, catching a thought and correcting its direction before it can calcify into a story you start living inside of, is cognitive restructuring in real time. It’s not about never having the thought. It’s about not letting the thought drive.

Mastery, in the CBT sense, isn’t the absence of unhelpful thoughts. It’s the practiced skill of noticing them fast enough to change course. This month, pay attention to how quickly you can catch yourself — and build the plan for what you’ll do once you have.

What is one recurring thought pattern you’re ready to actually intervene on, rather than just observe?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: Radical Acceptance of the Main Character You’ve Already Become

ACT teaches that psychological suffering often comes not from our circumstances themselves, but from our struggle against accepting them as they are. The goal isn’t to like your circumstances. It’s to stop spending your energy fighting reality so that energy becomes available for values-aligned action instead.

The Eight of Pentacles requires exactly this kind of radical acceptance. To do the work of mastery, you first have to accept where you actually are — not where you wish you were, not where you were five years ago, not where someone else your age is. You have to look at your own story and recognize the character you’ve written for yourself, the role you’re currently occupying, and say: this is what it is. This is where I am. And now, from this exact spot, here is what I’m doing about it. Here are the resources I’m seeking. Here are the professionals I’m leaning into. Here are the goals I’m setting.

This is also where my grandmother’s wisdom becomes clinically relevant: you can act your way into a feeling much faster than you can feel your way into an action. The Eight of Pentacles doesn’t wait for motivation to arrive before it picks up the tools. It commits to the action — mastering the craft, practicing the skill, showing up to the habit — and trusts that the feeling of mastery, the felt sense of “I am becoming who I want to be,” follows the doing. Not the other way around.

Radical acceptance isn’t resignation. It’s the ground you stand on so you can actually move.

Where are you waiting to feel ready before you act, when the Eight of Pentacles is asking you to act your way there instead?

Neuroscience and the Reticular Activating System: Attention as Currency

Here’s something worth understanding at the level of the brain, not just the mindset: your Reticular Activating System, or RAS, is a bundle of neurons at your brainstem that acts as a filter, deciding what information from your environment is important enough to bring into your conscious awareness out of the millions of stimuli available to you at any moment. It’s the reason that when you buy a certain car, you suddenly see that car everywhere. The cars were always there. Your RAS just wasn’t tagging them as relevant before.

This is the neuroscience behind something I say often: where you place your attention is where you will receive your reward, the same way currency works. Spend five dollars at the store, you get something back. Spend your attention on mastering a skill, holding yourself in high esteem, maintaining mental clarity, and your RAS begins filtering your entire environment for evidence that supports that focus. Spend your attention on doubt, comparison, and distraction, and your RAS filters for that instead.

This is why the Eight of Pentacles has a cocooning, solitary quality to it. When you’re genuinely focused — head down, attention consistently trained on the mastery at hand — it can feel isolating, almost like you’ve stepped outside of everyone else’s pace. That’s not a malfunction. That’s your RAS doing its job, filtering out the noise so the signal you’ve chosen can come through clearly.

This month, notice literally where your attention goes by default, before you redirect it. That default is currently training your brain on what to notice, what to believe is possible, and what to treat as evidence about who you are.

If your attention is currency, what has it been buying you lately — and is that the return you actually want?

What This Archetype Is Asking You to Claim

The Eight of Pentacles is asking you to claim your own authority as the main character of your story — not in an arrogant sense, but in the sense that this is your narrative to steward. You are being asked to move out of the apprentice stage and out of the watching-and-waiting stage, and into the daily, unglamorous work of tending what you’ve already planted. You are being asked to trust your own lived wisdom enough to act on it, to catch your own thoughts before they run the show, to accept exactly where you are as the only honest starting point for real change, and to notice what you’re feeding your attention — because it is, quite literally, shaping what your mind decides is true.

Reflection Prompts

Where in your life have you been circling the planning stage when the seeds have already germinated?

What thought pattern are you ready to intervene on directly, rather than simply observe?

What does radical acceptance of exactly where you are right now make possible?

Where has your attention been spending itself lately, and what has that bought you?

What would it look like to act your way into the feeling you’re waiting for?

Closing Invitation

This month isn’t asking you to have it all figured out. It’s asking you to put your head down, tend what’s already growing, and trust the mastery that comes from consistency rather than perfection. Let September be the month you stop apprenticing to your own life and start actually living it.

Trust that Love is always with you.

For, In, Through and With Love,
~Your Guide on the Side, TT 🌹

Eshé Institute · The Velvet Connection · The Velvet Rose Letters

The Monthly Archetypal Reading is a free offering for Rose Garden subscribers. But I’ve sat with enough people — and rebuilt enough of my own rooms — to know that’s rarely how it actually goes. The realest change is quieter than that. It’s a wall patched, not torn down. A room repainted, not gutted. It’s choosing, on a Tuesday, to release one thing that no longer fits — and letting that be enough for the day.

This letter is going to walk you through what I call renovation instead of demolition. No pause, no hesitation, eight wands cutting through the air toward their destination. After a month of releasing old thoughts, taking inspired first steps, examining the weight we’re carrying, and claiming earned wisdom, this final card arrives to say: pay attention, something is already in motion, and it’s asking to be met rather than managed.

This week’s reading is for anyone who has been so deep in their own head, their own healing, their own careful thinking, that they’ve started missing the small, obvious signals moving right past them. We’re exploring what it means to listen with more than your mind, why alignment sometimes feels like speed instead of stillness, and how to let momentum carry you without needing to control every detail of where it’s headed.

This one closes the month. Everything we’ve built — the honesty, the action, the discernment, the earned clarity — converges here into forward motion.

The full Archetypal Reflection for this week — including reflection questions, embodiment practices, and expanded meanings — is available exclusively in The Rose Conservatory. Here’s what the archetypes are saying this week.

This week, one archetype arrived — and she did not come to be rescued.

The Queen of Swords is often misread as cold. Guarded. Too sharp, too clear, too unmoved. But sit with her a little longer and a different truth emerges: she isn’t cold. She’s earned. Every bit of clarity she holds came from living through something that could have broken her, and choosing, instead, to become discerning.

This week’s reading is for anyone who has been mistaken for “too much” simply because they stopped waiting for someone else to think clearly on their behalf. We’re exploring what real emotional stability looks like versus what performance of it looks like, the difference between guarding yourself and shutting people out, and how wisdom that was earned the hard way gets to lead without apology.

Where the King of Swords sits in mastery, the Queen sits in something a little different — intuition sharpened by experience. This week continues the collective’s clarity arc, but through a distinctly feminine lens.

The full Archetypal Reflection for this week — including reflection questions, embodiment practices, and expanded meanings — is available exclusively in The Rose Conservatory. Part One of the Velvet Rose Letters — the one you’re reading right now — now lives here in the Rose Garden, free and open, yours to keep and yours to share with anyone in your life who needs it.

Part Two of every letter will live in the Rose Conservatory, our paid subscriber space, where we go even deeper into the practical, day-to-day work of actually living what Part One opens up. If this letter moves something in you, I hope you’ll consider joining us there. Your subscription is what allows me to keep writing letters like this one with the depth and care they deserve — and it’s what keeps this whole ecosystem, the workshops, the containers, the community, alive and growing. It genuinely makes a difference, and I don’t say that lightly.

I hope this piece meets you exactly where you are today. And I hope, by the end of it, you feel a little more at home in yourself than you did when you started reading.

For, In, Through and With Love,
~Your Guide on the Side, TT sit for a second before we go anywhere new?

I want to walk you back through this year with me — not to make you relive it, just to make sure you see what I see.

In April, you let joy back into the room, even when she felt like a stranger you’d have to get reacquainted with. You didn’t wait to be healed to let her in. You just opened the door a crack and let her sit with you.

In May, you found out pleasure was never the dessert. It was the foundation. You practiced letting your body come out of braced and into safe — one small, deliberate softening at a time.

In June, you looked at the night you’d built — the one made of every unwatched thought — and you didn’t run from it. You became the witness instead of the weather. You remembered you are the sky the storms move through, not the storm itself.

And in July, you did something even braver. You let yourself be unfinished on purpose. You introduced yourself to yourself again, slowly, without waiting to have it all figured out first.

None of that was separate. None of that was practice for some later, more important thing.

That was construction, Be-Loved.

You were building the whole time.

And now — here you are. Standing inside it.

This means that your home address is not a place. It was never a place. It’s not the house you live in or the body you’re currently negotiating with or the relationship status on a form somewhere. Your home address is you. All of you. The parts that are settled and the parts still under construction. The parts you’re proud of and the parts you’re still learning to be gentle with.

I don’t care where you go. You will always be arriving at you.

And I know — I know — that can feel less like a comfort and more like a confrontation, depending on the day. Because if you are the address, there’s nowhere left to hide from yourself. There’s no future version who has it together that you’re waiting to become before you’re allowed to feel at home. There’s just you, right now, deciding whether you can be safe here.

This is where the old stuff shows up. The outdated narratives. The behaviors that used to protect a version of you who needed protecting, but don’t serve the woman standing here now. They’ll surface — they always do, right when you start to settle — and your body will raise its antenna. Your chest will tighten. Your old vigilance will whisper that it isn’t safe to stop bracing yet.

That’s not a malfunction. That’s information.

When that happens, my heart, you don’t have to fix it in the moment. You just have to notice it, name it, and ask Self what you actually need. Maybe it’s a new skill. Maybe it’s a conversation with a therapist who can help you pull a thought pattern apart. Maybe it’s returning to what grounds you — our values, the way you practice with me, the quiet foundation underneath all the noise. Every answer is valid. What matters is that you’re the one answering the questions now, instead of our history telling the story.

Being at home in yourself was never about arriving somewhere flawless. It was never about having no flaws left to tend. It’s about knowing them. Working with them. Standing in our own kitchen, so to speak, and knowing where everything is — including the parts that still need work — and choosing to stay anyway.

That’s what safety actually feels like. Not perfection. Familiarity. Trust. The quiet knowing that even when something in you feels unsettled, you are not homeless. You are just mid-renovation.

You already know this, My Heart. You’ve been building it all year.

So here’s what I actually want to ask you:

If your home address is you — if there’s nowhere left to hide and nowhere else you actually need to go — what would it feel like to decide that we are safe right where we are? To let joy and pleasure and clarity become part of the decor, part of the foundation — the windows you look out of, the light you let in.

I’m going to need you to sit with that.

Sit with that question. Because I’ve already chosen you. I’ve already chosen us.

Now it’s your turn.

From Spirit to Heart, With Love 🌹

This Month’s Journal Invitation

When you hear the phrase “home within yourself,” what is the first image, memory, or feeling that shows up?

Where in your life have you been waiting to arrive somewhere else before you let yourself feel safe, settled, or worthy of rest?

What is one old narrative or outdated behavior that still shows up when you start to feel at home in yourself? Where do you think it came from?

If your body could speak the moment it feels unsafe or braced, what would it say? What does it actually need in that moment?

What would it look like to trust yourself the way you’d trust a home you built with your own hands?

Mini Practice: The Walkthrough

Find a quiet moment and close your eyes. Picture your life as a home — actual rooms, or, if that’s easier, actual areas of your life: your body, your relationships, your work, your mind.

Walk through it slowly, room by room. In each one, ask: Do I feel safe here? Do I feel like myself here? Is this a room I want to spend more time in, or one I’ve been avoiding?

You don’t have to fix anything today. Just notice. Which rooms feel warm? Which ones feel locked? Which ones surprise you?

Before you finish, choose one room — just one — that you want to spend a little more intentional time in this month. That’s your only assignment. Just visit it.

Activities: Settling In

Threshold Moment — Each morning this week, before you get out of bed, place a hand on your chest and say silently or aloud: “I am home.” Notice how it feels to say it even before the day proves it true.

Room Restored — Choose one small physical space in your actual home — a corner, a shelf, a nightstand — and make it reflect something you love about yourself. Let it be a physical reminder of the home within.

The Antenna Check — When you feel your body brace this week, pause and name it out loud: “This is my antenna going up.” Then ask what you actually need instead of pushing the feeling away.

Letter to the Address — Write one paragraph addressed to yourself, as if you were writing to your own home address. Tell yourself what you appreciate about the woman who lives there.

Soundtrack for August: The Homecoming Playlist

Home — Stephanie Mills (the original homecoming anthem, and still true)

Video — India.Arie (self-acceptance as sanctuary)

Glorious — Macklemore feat. Skylar Grey (standing fully in yourself, unapologetically)

Rise Up — Andra Day (steady strength for the mid-renovation days)

Permission Slip: Coming Home
Read these slowly. Let each one land before moving to the next.

-I have permission to call myself home, even while I am still under construction.
-I have permission to notice what no longer fits without demolishing everything I’ve built.
-I have permission to ask for what I need instead of bracing for what I fear.
-I have permission to be safe here, in this body, in this life, exactly as it is right now.
-I have permission to stop searching for a home I already live in.

Rose Affirmation
Place your hand on your heart. Read this aloud if you are able.

I am my own address.
I do not have to arrive anywhere else to be safe.
I know my flaws and I know my strength, and I choose to live here anyway.
I am home.

Beautiful, if you sat with that closing question — if you let yourself really consider what it would mean to stop searching and start recognizing you’re already home — I hope you’ll come back for Part Two.

On August 30th, we move into the Rose Conservatory for the second half of this conversation: the actual, practical work of renovating the home within. Not demolition — repair. Redecorating. Deciding room by room what stays, what gets rebuilt, and what finally gets released with love.

If today’s letter is stirring something in you that wants more consistent support, Patterns & Perspectives is a beautiful place to start — a single, focused session to work through exactly where you are right now. And if you’re ready to go deeper and stay awhile, The Tending Grounds is open — our 14-week container for the women who are ready to fully inhabit the life they’re building.

Until the 30th — go gently. Here’s what the archetypes are saying this week.

This week, one archetype arrived — and he’s the one everybody dreads seeing, right up until they understand what he’s actually saying.

The Ten of Wands looks like exhaustion. Ten wands, all bundled together, all being carried at once, back bent under the weight. The instinct is to read this as “too much, put it down, you’re overwhelmed.” That’s not wrong, exactly. But it’s incomplete. Because the Ten of Wands didn’t just show up with all this weight out of nowhere. He collected every single one of those wands along the way — through the Ace, through the journey, one at a time, and some of them were things he prayed for.

This week’s reading is for anyone carrying something that used to be a dream and has quietly become a burden without them noticing the shift. We’re exploring what it means when the thing you asked for becomes the thing that’s crushing you, why “struggle” and “sign to stop” aren’t the same thing, and how to sort through what’s actually yours to keep carrying versus what you can finally set down.

This one also completes something. Back in July, the Ten of Cups asked what was filling you up emotionally. This week, the Ten of Wands asks what that fullness has cost you physically, practically, in your actual arms. The cups fill. The wands carry. This is where we find out the difference.

The full Archetypal Reflection for this week — including reflection questions, embodiment practices, and expanded meanings — is available exclusively in The Rose Conservatory. Pure “yes.” The birthplace of an idea before it has a plan, a passion before it has proof. And right beside it, The Fool — not foolish in the way we use the word casually, but the archetype of the first step taken anyway, before every variable is accounted for, before the outcome is guaranteed.

This week’s reading is for anyone who set a sword or two down last week and is now standing there wondering what to do with their empty hands. We’re exploring what actually separates an idea from a beginning, why inspiration alone was never going to be enough, and what it looks like to move — genuinely move, not just plan to move — before you feel fully ready.

This one is the exhale after the release. We’re coming out of a Mercury retrograde in Cancer season — weeks that stirred up our feelings, our stories about those feelings, every experience that’s been asking to be felt rather than skipped past. So it makes sense that August lands us in a season of clarity. A mastering of mind.

This card isn’t a new visitor, either. The King of Swords opened the very first week of July, alongside the Ten of Cups. That energy has been building in a spiral for a full month now. Where the Ten of Cups spoke to what was quietly filling us up emotionally, the King’s return in August says: you’ve felt it, you’ve gathered it — now think clearly about what you do with it. Same teacher, deeper ask.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy & Neuroscience: The Thought Behind the Action

What you think is still how you act. It’s how you live, how you respond to the world. That sentence sounds simple, almost too simple, until you actually watch it play out in your own life — the way the same circumstance can feel unbearable on one day and manageable the next, depending entirely on what you were thinking on the drive there.

CBT’s whole foundation rests on this: it’s rarely the event itself that determines how we feel and act. It’s the thought that arrives between the event and our response — often so fast we don’t even register it as a thought. We just feel the consequence and assume the event caused it directly.

Underneath that is real neuroscience. Our brains are constantly, silently linking experiences to feelings, filing each one away as a template for “here’s what this kind of moment means.” Before you’ve even consciously registered what’s happening, your nervous system has already made a threat assessment — reading a tone of voice, a delay in a text response, a look on someone’s face — and decided whether you’re safe or in danger. The vagus nerve responds. The amygdala fires. Your body has already started reacting before your mind has caught up to explain why.

We’ve been taught that circumstance creates our environment, and that’s true to a point — the world does act on us, and that’s real, not something to think our way out of. But how we experience a circumstance also shapes it. Two people can live through the same event and walk away with entirely different nervous systems, entirely different stories, entirely different next moves — not because the event was different, but because the meaning-making underneath it was.

The King of Swords reminds us we hold more power in this loop than we usually credit ourselves for. Not power to control what happens to us. Power to notice the thought arriving in the gap, examine it before we let it drive, and choose — deliberately, not automatically — what we do next.

Where has a thought — not the actual circumstance — been shaping how hard something feels?

Narrative Therapy: The Story You’re Standing Inside

Narrative therapy holds a simple but radical idea: you are not your problem. The problem is a story, and stories can be re-authored.

We live inside our stories — the ones we tell ourselves about our capability, our worth, what’s possible for us. Some of these stories we wrote ourselves, in real time, from lived experience. But a lot of them we inherited. A story handed down from a parent who was doing their best with what they had. A story absorbed from a culture that decided, long before you were born, what someone who looks like you is “supposed” to be capable of. A story built quietly, brick by brick, from a handful of hard moments that got generalized into a whole identity — I’m the one who always falls short, I’m the one people leave, I’m not a disciplined person — until the story stopped feeling like a story and started feeling like fact.

This is the distinction narrative therapy asks you to make: the problem-saturated story is not the whole truth. It’s one telling, drawn from selected chapters, that left out everything that didn’t fit the plot. Somewhere in your history there is also evidence of the exception — the time you did follow through, the time you were chosen, the time you showed the discipline you swore you didn’t have. Narrative work isn’t about pretending the hard chapters didn’t happen. It’s about refusing to let them be the only chapters that count.

This month is asking you to notice which stories are actually yours, and which ones you inherited or built without meaning to. Clarity begins the moment you can see the story as a story — something authored, something editable — separate from fact.

What’s one story about yourself you’ve been treating as fact that might actually just be a story?

Motivational Interviewing: From Choices to Decisions

Clarity comes with responsibility. That’s the part people don’t always want to hear when they’re praying for it.

Motivational interviewing was built around a simple observation: people rarely change because they lack information. They change when they close the gap between where they are and where they say they want to be — and that gap-closing only happens through their own words, their own reasoning, spoken out loud until it becomes undeniable to them. It’s the difference between someone telling you what to do, and someone finally hearing themselves say what they’ve known all along.

That’s the shift the King of Swords is asking for this month. Once you understand something — once you’re no longer running in circles — you move from having choices to having to make decisions. Those are not the same thing, even though we use the words interchangeably.

Searching, exploring, staying open, gathering more information, “still figuring it out” — those are choices. They cost you very little, because nothing is confirmed yet. You get to hold every option loosely. But once you’re clear — once you know, in your body, what’s true — you’re not looking around anymore. You have the information. Staying in the searching posture past the point of clarity isn’t open-mindedness anymore. It’s avoidance wearing open-mindedness as a costume.

Motivational interviewing calls this the “why vs. what” bridge: you already know your why — that’s the clarity you’ve earned. The decision is what you do with it. And here’s the part that matters most: nobody can make that decision land for you. Not me, not this reading, not anyone in your life who’s been waiting on you to “finally get it together.” The clarity was the work you already did. The deciding is yours alone.

Now that you have clarity somewhere in your life, what decision has been waiting on the other side of it?

What This Archetype Is Asking You to Claim

The King of Swords is asking you to claim your own mind — to stop outsourcing your clarity to circumstance, and to recognize that once you know better, staying the same becomes a choice, not an accident. August is a month of inspired action born from clear decisions, born from the clarity you earned through a season of emotional release.

Reflection Prompts

Where have you gained clarity but avoided the decision waiting on the other side of it?

What story about yourself are you ready to set down?

What would inspired action look like for you this month, specifically?

Closing Invitation

Keep an eye on this thread as August unfolds — the Ten of Wands arrives mid-month in our weekly readings, and it’s in conversation with July’s Ten of Cups too. What filled us emotionally in July is, by mid-August, ready to be examined for its weight. The cups fill; the wands carry. That’s the evolution.

And one more thread for the Rose Garden this month: pulling for how this energy can best serve the collective, Sekhmet came forward — the wounded healer, the one who gives endlessly and forgets to tend her own heart. Her message: the martyr days are over. More on her soon.

We’re exploring the beautiful trap of too many possibilities, what happens in the brain when desire loops without resolution, and how getting specific — really, genuinely, uncomfortably specific — is not the end of the dream. It’s the beginning of the life.

We’re also honoring the full moon in Aquarius on July 29th with its own dedicated moment. And we’re closing out the month of July by threading every week back to where we started: the Six of Wands, standing in the light of what has been built.

This one brings the month home.

The full Archetypal Reflection for this week — including reflection questions, embodiment practices, and expanded meanings — is available exclusively in The Rose Conservatory. We’ll look at the Empress as Jungian archetype, what Narrative Therapy teaches us about thickening the story of who we’re becoming, why your body has to encounter a new life before your mind will fully believe it, and how the spaces you inhabit are either confirming or contradicting everything you say you desire.

This one is for the woman who is ready to stop waiting to feel like her.

The full Archetypal Reflection for this week — including reflection questions, embodiment practices, and expanded meanings — is available exclusively in The Rose Conservatory. They come unannounced without my usual critical thinking experience and ask to be shared. I used to do this more often than I do now. I recognized recently that I had tried to limit this side of me for a myriad of reasons. Yet as I have been focused on allowing the fullness of life to be experienced, it seems imperative that I return to this practice.

When these messages come, they are unfiltered, raw, in the moment and for whomever it is meant to be for. To be clear these are a little different from my energy updates. For those of you who have been rocking with me for a while you know the energy updates are usually centered on current energy flows and how we can best utilize them. These audio notes, affectionately called TT talks are messages that feel the need to be shared, lessons that I have learned or am learning, in the midst of the moment reflections. Because despite what life can look like in these internet streets no one, and I mean NO ONE, has it all together and we are all simply trying to navigate the life we are living. These are timeless messages meant to be shared, digested, and utilized however it is needed for you. Take what you need, and leave the rest. Also please feel free to share, I purposely put them in The Rose Garden for ease of access. When I share these moments, I will try to put a reflection question, so if you want to take it further into your own journey you can with intentionality. I don’t promise that there will always be a question, because sometimes I find it just needs to be what it is and nothing more. I hope that regardless of when you find this, listen to it, or return to it, you find it nourishment for your soil/soul.

Some days doing is simply too much. The Five is competing passions: the chaos of too many things wanting your attention, your energy, your allegiance, all at once. The Seven is defending your position: holding the line, standing your ground against what comes for it. The Six sits between them as resolution. Not the absence of struggle, but what becomes possible after it.

Numerologically, the Six always traces back to the Lovers — not romance, but harmony. The coming-together of intuition and action, of what you know and what you do about it. So when the Six of Wands rides in — often depicted as a figure returning from battle, laurel crown in place, witnessed by a crowd — it isn’t announcing a victory that needs to be won. It’s announcing one that’s already happened. Quietly. Maybe without anyone watching at the time.

July is asking you to let it be seen.

The Quiet Build, Now Visible

It’s important to remember that not every transformation looks like the Tower. Not every shift announces itself with collapse or thunder.

Some of the most real movement in your life has happened slowly; unwitnessed, without applause, built in rooms nobody saw you in. You followed the passion when it would have been easier not to. You moved toward the vision before you had proof it would work. And now — not because you forced it, but because you simply kept going — it’s visible.

This is where Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has something to offer the Six of Wands. CBT teaches that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are in constant conversation with each other — and that the stories we tell ourselves about our own competence directly shape what we’re willing to attempt next. If you’ve spent recent seasons believing I’m not doing enough, this isn’t working, nothing is changing — the Six of Wands is direct evidence against that belief. The thought and the reality have come apart. One of them is lying to you.

This month asks you to update the file. Not perform confidence you don’t feel, but actually look at the evidence — the thing you built, the thread you kept pulling, the version of you a year ago who would recognize what you’ve become — and let the belief catch up to the truth.

What evidence have you been discounting because it didn’t arrive the way you expected?

Whose Story Are You Telling About Yourself?

The Six of Wands is also, unmistakably, a card about narrative — who tells your story, and what story gets told.

Narrative Therapy, developed by Michael White and David Epston, rests on a simple but radical premise: you are not the problem. The problem is the problem. And the story you’ve been told — or the one you’ve told yourself — about who you are isn’t fixed. It can be re-authored.

Many of us carry a “problem-saturated story” about ourselves: the one where we’re always behind, always almost-there, always one step from arriving. The Six of Wands interrupts that story mid-sentence. It says: you’re not almost there. You’re being seen right now, in this chapter, for what you already did.

This is the practice of narrative therapy’s “unique outcomes” — the moments that don’t fit the old story, the exceptions to the problem-saturated plot. July is full of them, if you let yourself notice. The compliment you deflected. The recognition you brushed off. The thing someone said about you that you assumed they were just being nice about. Those aren’t noise. Those are the new story trying to get written.

If someone else were narrating your last year, what would they call this chapter?

Integration, Not Performance

There’s a Jungian layer here too: the Six of Wands can be misread as a card about ego — about needing to be seen, needing applause, needing the crowd. That’s not quite it.

Carl Jung wrote about individuation as the lifelong process of becoming who you actually are — not who you perform for others, and not who your shadow keeps you hiding from either. The Six of Wands, read through this lens, isn’t about external validation. It’s about internal alignment becoming visible as a side effect. You weren’t building for the witnessing. You were building because the vision required it of you. The crowd noticing is simply what happens when the inner work and the outer life finally match.

This distinction matters, because it’s easy in a season like this to start performing the win instead of inhabiting it — to need the recognition to keep flowing in order to feel real. Jung would say: let the visibility be a mirror, not a fuel source. Check that you still recognize yourself in what’s being witnessed.

Are you building because it’s true to you, or because you’ve started building for the audience?

When the Impostor Shows Up at the Victory Lap

There is a particular voice that arrives precisely when the Six of Wands does — and it doesn’t announce itself as fear or self-doubt. It shows up sounding reasonable. I just got lucky. The timing was right. They don’t really know me yet. Anyone could have done this. This is impostor syndrome, and it is one of the most effective disruptors of earned recognition that exists. It doesn’t prevent the win. It just makes sure you don’t keep it.

Psychologically, impostor syndrome operates as a specific kind of cognitive distortion — what CBT identifies as discounting the positive: a pattern where evidence of your own competence gets systematically filtered out or reattributed to something external (luck, timing, other people’s lowered standards), while any evidence of inadequacy gets filed away as the real truth about you. The crown arrives and your mind immediately starts building the case for why you don’t deserve to wear it. This isn’t humility. Humility can receive a compliment. This is a defense mechanism — one that often develops for very good reasons, particularly for Black women who have had to work twice as hard for half the recognition and learned, rightly, to be suspicious of pedestals. But what protected you in one season can become the thing that robs you in another. The Six of Wands is asking you to notice when the impostor’s voice is speaking — and to choose, deliberately, not to let it narrate this chapter. The work was real. The build was real. You are allowed to let the win be real too.

Where has the impostor’s voice shown up in how you’ve received your own growth — and whose permission have you been waiting for to call it what it is?

What the Six of Wands Is Asking You to Claim

This month, the archetype is not asking you to chase another win.

It is asking you to receive the one you already have.

To let the moment land without immediately building a case against it. To notice where your internal story is still running on old, disproven information. To let the people around you say what they’re saying about you, and believe them.

And then, having received it fully —

to keep walking. Because the Six doesn’t mean you’re finished. It means you’re ready for what’s next, standing in proof instead of doubt.

Reflection Prompts for the Month

These are yours to sit with. In your journal, in a quiet moment, in prayer or meditation — wherever you do your best inner work.

— What have you built quietly, without applause, that’s now ready to be seen?

— Where in your life have you stopped forcing something, and what changed when you did?

— What is your current “story” about your own progress — and where does the evidence actually contradict it?

— Who would tell a different, truer version of your last year than the one you’ve been telling yourself?

— Are you building for alignment with yourself, or for the audience watching?

The Six of Wands’ Invitation

You are not still waiting to arrive.

You have already moved. The quiet work is no longer quiet. The thing you held the vision for has taken shape, and it’s standing in the light whether you feel ready for that or not.

Let yourself be seen in it. Let the crown sit.

And trust that Love is always with you.

For, In, Through and With Love,

~Your Guide on the Side, TT 🌹

Eshé Institute · The Velvet Connection · The Velvet Rose Letters

The Monthly Archetypal Reading is a free offering for Rose Garden subscribers. Here's what the archetypes are saying this week.

The Hierophant is the card most of us were taught to obey before we ever learned to question.

He sits between two pillars, robed, one hand raised in blessing. He is structure. He is doctrine. He is every value you absorbed so early, from people you trusted so completely, that you never thought to ask where it came from.

This week’s card carries the number five — the number of friction in the tarot. And the Hierophant’s friction is the tension that shows up when the beliefs you were given start to rub against the woman you are becoming.

Here’s the question underneath it all: who taught you that?

Not everything inherited deserves to be released. Some of what you were given is worth keeping. But the Hierophant insists on examination — pulling the belief into the light and asking whether it ever truly served you, or whether it was built to serve something that had nothing to do with you.

This week’s full letter works with Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Social Learning Theory, and the Reticular Activating System — exploring how belief gets installed, modeled, and quietly reinforced long before we’re old enough to question it. There are reflection questions, four embodiment practices, and an honest look at the difference between the lineage that loved you and the institution that only wanted your compliance.

If you’ve ever called something holy without ever asking who decided it was — this one is for you.

The full Archetypal Reflection for this week — including reflection questions, embodiment practices, and expanded meanings — is available exclusively in The Rose Conservatory.
