I want to start out by saying that I’ve never had a negative experience while shopping at Hermès, because not only do I have the most amazing sales associate, but the store location I shop at has nearly become a second home to me. Everyone that works there is so wonderful and I’ve become friendly with the entire store. We’ve all heard the horror stories about being treated a certain way shopping there, but I’ve genuinely never found it to be true. The worst experience I’ve had was in Paris simply being denied a leather appointment, but even then, the sales associate was perfectly lovely. However, I am confident that I have this experience because Hermès can smell from a mile away who is truly invested in their brand, and who is on a witch hunt. Which leads me to my first piece of advice, if all you care about is a quota bag, you’re less likely to get one.

Why they can’t just give you the bag

People seem to think Hermès stores just constantly have stock of quota bags all the time and that they’re hiding bags from people and refusing to give them out. This is simply just not the case. If it was, a lot more people would be walking around with Kelly’s and Birkins. Hermès shipments are delivered completely at random every few weeks or even months in a very limited amount.

SA’s earn commission on everything except quota bags, which is why so many clients believe that spending heavily will eventually earn them one. I have seen that strategy work, but I have also watched people spend four times the price of a quota bag and still walk away empty handed. In those cases, the associate often has no intention of offering a bag at all. A client who appears generous with their money, eager to please, and willing to keep buying is far more profitable than one who expects results. The bill grows, the commissions add up, and the promise of a bag remains just out of reach. It is, without question, an expensive theory to test.

With all of that being said, in my opinion, Hermès can see right through people that just want to walk around with a mini kelly because they know it’s a status symbol. Hermès values clients who truly want to invest in their brand and understand that the quality of the brand is unlike anything else on the market, and the best way to start building a relationship with the maison is your sales associate. I cannot emphasize enough how much you need a sales associate you really connect with. If you don’t feel like you immediately click with your SA the first time you shop there, go back another day and try chatting with someone else. They will be able to read if you actually click or if you’re just kissing their ass because you want a bag, so really be sure the synergy is there. And whatever you do, once you do click with someone and start shopping with them, do not shop with a different salesperson afterwards. The only exception is if you’re traveling internationally and even then it’s still a no no. That is the biggest form of self sabotage I’ve ever heard of. The key is to stay consistent with one sales associate, and if you have the time, I’d recommend going twice a month. You have to understand that because the bags are so limited literally in quantity, you want to make sure your sales associate really likes you because you want to be top of mind when the shipment comes in.

So what should you buy?

Realistically speaking, the big ticket items are technically ready to wear, jewelry, and home décor. However, like I said before, the relationship with your sales associate and how invested you actually are in the brand really is what is most important. Buy what you’re actually interested in regardless of the price tag and your authenticity in the shopping process will really shine through. It’s not that shoes are seen as a less valuable purchase than a jacket, it’s that everyone walks into the store wreaking of desperation ready to buy a pair of orans because they think it’s the easiest birkin bait in the store. So if you have a good relationship with your SA and there genuinely isn’t a piece of ready to wear that you’re interested in on that specific day (or you simply just can’t afford it) but there is a scarf or a pair of shoes that you like, as long as it’s clear you’re genuinely interested in the brand as a whole, I personally don’t think it makes any difference. Or it has not, in my experience.

When should I pop the question?

The question I know you’ve all been on the edge of your seat for: when should I ask to make a wish list? How do you come across genuinely invested in the brand, while also anxious as hell to make your wishlist? The best way to do it in my opinion is to wait until the third or fourth time you shop with your SA, and then bring up how you’d love to make a wish list if possible. However, I never brought up my wishlist at all until a bag was given to me. I never asked about the status of a wishlist item while I was waiting; instead, I waited until I really got to know my SA and bought several bags. By that point, I believe I was already onto my fourth bag and she then knew how invested I was in the brand as a whole and I wasn’t just fiending for a bag. Again, you don’t want to come across as if you’re only in it for the birkin. If you have a good SA, they are doing everything they can to help you get the bag of your dreams, and adding constant pressure by asking for updates is most certainly unpleasant.

What colors and bags are hardest and which are easiest?

Fantastic question, with a somewhat elaborate answer. Every year, Hermès releases new colors that are only produced for a year or two, and those colors are most definitely the hardest to get in comparison to the colors that are produced every single year. Gold, black, and etoupe are what I consider to be more so “beginner” colors because they are without question the easiest offers to get and a lot more of them are made in production. However, it also depends on what the other clients at your store location are asking for…for instance, I got my lime mini kelly because at that point in time everyone at my store location wasn’t interested in a bright color, it was winter so everyone was asking for a neutral. So it really depends, but ultimately, the limited edition colors that Hermès makes are the most difficult because simply less are produced (neutral or colorful), then permanent colorful bags, then permanent neutral colors.

Having said that, which type of bag is the most difficult is a much easier question. In the US, I would actually argue a kelly cut is the most difficult bag to get because they are not shipped here very often for some reason. On the flip side, a kelly cut is on the easier side to ask for in Paris. After a kelly cut, I’d say a pochette is hardest to get. Yes, harder than a mini kelly because again, simply not as many are sent to the US for whatever reason. If you want a mini kelly, even with an amazing sales associate, I’d say you’re probably going to be waiting at least a year to fulfill that wish, so I’d suggest also adding on a birkin or kelly 25 onto your list so you can get something offered in the meantime. A good rule of thumb is the smaller the bag, the more difficult to get. So I’d say the order goes as follows: kelly cut, kelly pochette, mini kelly, kelly elan, 25s, 30s, so on and so forth. Unless you’re interested in like a grizzly birkin, but that’s a story for another day.

In conclusion, you’ll probably be waiting at least a year for a mini kelly in black and I recommend not being picky about the hardware. On the other hand, if you wanted a mini kelly in a bright limited edition color, I’m not sure you’d ever get it to be honest unless your SA is a magician. All this to say I’m confident someone could get a birkin or kelly 25 in black within 6 months if all goes according to plan. If that’s not girl math I literally don’t know what is.

But what if I don’t like what’s offered to me?

Everyone seems to be terrified to deny an offer at Hermès because they’re convinced they’ll be blacklisted from the brand and never receive another quota offer again. I can tell you firsthand that this could not be further from the truth. I have denied two different offers from my sales associate and received new offers within weeks each time. I also declined every bag I was offered in Paris the first time I ever secured an appointment there, and I was still able to get another appointment on my next visit to Paris. I was so terrified the first time I denied an offer that I profusely apologized to my SA, but she is so fantastic and assured me she wanted me to be 100% happy with my purchase. At the end of the day, these bags are incredibly expensive, and you only get two a year, so you need to be absolutely thrilled with your purchase. Don’t let people scare you into saying yes to anything that’s offered to you, if you get offered something that isn’t what you were looking for, I promise you’ll get an offer that makes more sense for you afterwards!

Why do people get randomly lucky?

To be perfectly honest, I have no idea. I’ve heard all the same stories on TikTok about people walking in and magically receiving a bag offer on the spot. If I had to guess, those situations happen because a sales associate offered the bag to another client earlier in the day, the client declined it, and the associate then offers it to someone else, likely because it isn’t on anyone else’s wishlist in the store. The closest I’ve gotten to lucky was getting a leather appointment in Paris because someone cancelled, but even then, I didn’t walk away with a bag because I didn’t like any that were presented to me. I genuinely do not have a clue, but on the bright side at least I’ve never once been jealous of someone’s “lucky” offer.

Why not just buy from a reseller?

I’ve worked with resellers in the past in exchange for a bag, meaning I created content for the reseller in return for a quota bag, and you would too if the opportunity presented itself. I’ve never personally spent my own money on an Hermès bag from a reseller, but I absolutely would if there was a color or bag that was no longer made that I really wanted. I’m sure that day will come, but the truth is, it’s largely because I really do not see Hermès as a game. I truly see it as an investment, and I’m convinced that mindset is why I’ve had such a phenomenal experience shopping in store. The pieces I’ve bought are pieces I will pass down to my kids, and their kids after them, not just because of the name, but because the quality can actually withstand that kind of legacy. When you compare almost any other designer good to an Hermès piece, the difference is startling. There is a reason the moment you walk out of an Hermès store with a new bag, its value has multiplied twice at minimum. How many stocks can you name that double the moment you buy them? None, as far as I’m concerned.

Skin

I’ve gotten facials all over the world with aestheticians that have waitlists longer than CVS receipts. I even flew all the way to Seoul, South Korea, lured by promises of the best skin of my life. Naturally, I went to the so-called best of the best and left unimpressed, jet-lagged, and completely homesick for my facialist in New York. That’s how good Taylor Worden is: once you’ve experienced her magic, you realize loyalty isn’t just for relationships, it’s for your skin too. I’ve been seeing her for 4 years now and my life, and skin, have changed for the better. Any facial you get with her will be life altering, but in my humble opinion, you need to get the Taylor Made Facial. I know it’s one of the most expensive options she offers, but go big or go home am I right? And frankly, if there’s one thing you shouldn’t be cheap about, it’s your face (trust me, I would know). It’s completely tailored to your skin’s specific needs and the facial massage alone makes it worth every penny. Her technique lifts, sculpts, and leaves you more snatched than you’ve ever been with an unmatched glow you’ve never seen on yourself before. Plus, as a TMJ girly, she offers TMJ massages that quite literally rock your world. All this to say, I promise you and your skin won’t regret seeing Taylor Worden.

Nails

Everyone and their mother raves about Russian manicures and I’ll be honest, for the longest time, I didn’t understand the hype. I’ve always been told my entire life that the more cuticles that are removed from your nails, the more will grow back, so I was so confused that everyone was sprinting to get what seemed like every millimeter of skin removed from their nails. Then I was even more confused that everyone’s nails looked pristine after over a month of the same manicure, so after trying to be cool and different by defying Russian manicures for years, I finally decided to give it a go. And boy, did I understand the hype instantaneously. I am now fiercely loyal to Russian Nails (the name of the actual salon on 38th street) because my nails have genuinely never looked better. I wouldn’t say they cut more cuticles than usual, they just cut them differently with a pair of scissors rather than a cuticle cutter. I’m not sure what sorcery they use to literally elongate my nail beds and make my nails look perfect for a full month, but they have me hooked.

Highlights

This is definitely going to be one of my hottest takes (maybe ever?), but after years of going to the top colorists in New York City, I really don’t believe New York City hair colorists can do blonde highlights well. There I said it. I don’t want to name names and bash businesses, but I have literally seen the top colorists at the majority of New York City’s most reputable salons since I was 14 so believe me when I say I’ve done my homework. So after one too many streaky yellow highlights, I picked up the very expensive habit of flying to LA to get my highlights done per the suggestion of several friends of mine. According to all my woo woo LA friends, the sun actually naturally highlights blondes in LA unlike New York, so colorists there have an easier time replicating it. Don’t worry, I’m not telling you you need to fly to LA to get your highlights done. Lucky for you, I did the field research there, and serendipitously my colorist in LA happened to move to New York shortly after I started flying out to him. Jeremy at IGK salon may just be an angel sent by the hair gods themselves. He was Tracy Cunningham’s assistant at Meche Salon in LA, so he really has learned from the best of the best. I would sooner move to Murray Hill than stop seeing Jeremy for my hair color, that’s how committed to him I am and once you see him you’ll understand why.

And if you’re in LA, you absolutely have to go to Meche Salon and see Mollie or Alex.

Haircuts/Blowouts

Nothing makes you feel uglier than sitting in a salon chair with wet hair and a bib staring at yourself for what feels like an eternity. If I ever got another haircut where I said I only wanted an inch cut off but left with 3 inches gone, I think I’d be put in a mental institution. But rest assured, when you see Deanna at Rule on Salon, not only will you leave with the perfect haircut, you’ll look like you just walked the Victoria’s Secret runway because her blowouts are that good (and will last you days). It may take you a minute to get on her schedule because she’s so popular, but at least you won’t leave the salon crying with a heinous bob you explicitly didn’t ask for.

Botox/Filler

If there’s anything you let me influence you on - let it be that you should never and I mean never get your botox or filler done at a med spa. These are two things that can change your face or your fate, depending on who’s holding the syringe. Med spas might be fine for a vitamin drip, but when it comes to your face? Absolutely not. Unless you want to roll the dice on symmetry, leave it to an actual plastic surgeon. When it comes to injectables, qualifications matter more than aesthetics, and I don’t mean your own. Skip the med spas with trendy interiors and marketing teams that work harder than their injectors; if you wouldn’t trust someone to perform surgery on you, don’t let them near your face with a needle. A board-certified plastic surgeon might cost more, but at least you’ll walk out looking refreshed, not restructured. Save yourself the risk (and the reality TV storyline), because looking snatched shouldn’t come with a side of regret or a guest spot on Botched.

For the record, I haven’t gotten Botox or filler in almost two years. It’s not part of my current journey at the moment, and that’s a story for another day, but the creams and serums I’ve been using are so good that I’ve been able to quit Botox altogether. But If I ever decided to get anything done again, it would only be with Dr. Phillip Miller, who I genuinely believe is one of the best board-certified plastic surgeons in New York.

Lymphatic Drainage

Lymphatic drainage massages are my version of a detox. They’re supposed to help with circulation and immunity, which is great, but honestly? I love them because you finish the session looking like you just came off a juice cleanse and lost five pounds, even though unless you count the olive juice in my martinis as a green juice, I haven’t ingested one in years. There’s a reason Brazilians are some of the hottest people on earth: they treat lymphatic drainage as if it were their religion. It blows my mind that it’s not more of a thing in the U.S., because after just one session you feel lighter, refreshed, and genuinely like you’ve hit reset on your body. New York City is crawling with people who claim to be lymphatic drainage experts, but half of them use the pressure of a feather, so you’re basically getting scammed and paying for an expensive nap. The key is finding someone who’s actually strong and knows what they’re doing, and honestly, no one does it like the Brazilians. That’s why I exclusively have Domi at Rise Up Beauty come to my apartment for my lymphatic drainage massages. She’s the real deal, and the fact that she does house calls just makes her even better. If she’s unavailable herself, anyone on her team is fantastic!

Eyebrows

If you’ve been around long enough, you know the absolute travesty that used to be my eyebrows, and Sania at Sania’s Brow Bar is the woman responsible for their transformation. She’s not an aesthetician, she’s an artist. Getting on her schedule takes weeks, but the wait is absolutely worth it. She takes her craft very seriously; she studies your eyebrows in silence like she’s mapping out a masterpiece, and then proceeds to work her magic. By the time she’s done, you’ll understand why she’s in a league of her own. She’ll also tell you to throw out half the products in your beauty cabinet because they’re ruining your brow growth, and once you see her clients’ arches, you won’t argue. They’re full, lifted, and impossibly symmetrical, which is why I wouldn’t let anyone else near my eyebrows with a ten-foot pole. And while we’re on the topic, I swear by her eyebrow pencil, it’s the only one I’m willing to use.

And with that, this is my tried and true Paris itinerary I use every time I’m in the city: consistent, chic, and entirely guided by vibes.

Breakfast

Carette

I’m definitely a room-service-breakfast kind of girl on vacation, which is why I only have one breakfast recommendation to offer, and it’s so unbelievably good that it’s worth the long line you will inevitably wait in because they don’t take reservations. I literally dream about breakfast at Carette, specifically the scrambled eggs. Are they butter and milk with a side of eggs? Perhaps, but I could not possibly care less because they are so delicious. Naturally, the eggs pair beautifully with their perfectly flaky pastries. Personally, I’m a pain-au-chocolat kind of girl. You won’t regret getting out of bed for this breakfast.

Lunch

Hotel Costes

Did you even go to Paris if you didn’t post a photo of the courtyard at Hôtel Costes? Bonus points if you were actually seated there. There’s a reason Kim Kardashian flew all the way to Paris for the cheesecake and why the hosts declare psychological war over where they’re willing to seat you: the cheesecake is that good and the vibes are top tier. They only take reservations the morning of over the phone only, so if your hotel concierge isn’t on it, you’d better be. Even if you do secure the reservation, your seating isn’t guaranteed, so you may jump through all the hoops only to not even end up in the courtyard, and I’ll be honest, if you get there and they exile you to the red velvet room, it’s social suicide and I would personally leave. Everything on the menu is great, but the nems and the crab salad are my go-tos, and even though they’re known for their delicious cheesecake, I’m personally partial to the pavlova.

La Fontaine De Mars

I’ll be honest, I only tried this restaurant because my friend went once and sent me a photo, and I thought the napkins and tablecloths were so cute. Serendipitously, the food and vibes happened to be great! It’s in the 7th arrondissement, so when I go, I make a day out of it: I start at Bon Marché for some shopping, stop by Rue de l’Université for some pics like the cute tourist I am, and then, naturally, after all the shopping and pics, I’m starved and it’s the perfect lunch spot.

L’Avenue

I warned you I’m basic and I’m not sorry. L’Avenue is owned by Hotel Costes, so expect the same kind of psychological warfare there regarding where you’re seated. Similarly, the patio is the place to be seen, but it’s not as humiliating to sit inside so you can enjoy your reservation in peace one way or another. However, the obligatory photo of the berries and chantilly won’t hit the same from an inside table unfortunately. The menu is almost exactly the same as Hotel Costes, because why fix what isn’t broken and there’s no such thing as too many nems.

Chez Janou

Definitely download the google translate app before coming here so you can scan the menu because they don’t offer an english version unless they’ve updated it since the last time I went, but it’s viral on tik tok for a reason. That reason is the chocolate mousse and ambiance are really that phenomenal. I’ll be honest though, the actual lunch items are a bit too French for me. It’s worth it for the desserts, the apricot tarte and the clafoutis are also sensational. Hopefully you get there before the chocolate mousse sells out!

Café D’Esplanade

I wouldn’t say this restaurant is anything particularly fantastic, but it’s always easy to be seated therefore reliable and also very aesthetic. And compared to every other restaurant in France, the service is actually quite quick which I give them credit for. I wouldn’t go out of your way to experience this restaurant but if you’re in Paris for a while and you have plenty of time its a good spot to switch things up with.

Dinner

Lafayette

My favorite dinner spot arguably of all time because I love everything about this restaurant. The food, the scenery, the lighting, the vibes, they nailed all of it to a t. Not only would this be a great date spot if you’re travelling with a significant other, but it’s also such a good spot for fun group dinners with friends. The caviar and chicken nuggets are a personal favorite, because you can take the girl out of America, but you can’t take the America out of the girl.

Monsieur Bleu

Since I consider myself to be a nem connoisseur, I declare that Monsieur Belu has the best nems in Paris and that alone makes the reservation worth it to me. Monsieur Bleu is an extremely close second to my favorite restaurant in Paris, I would actually argue the food is better than Lafayette’s but the vibes are not as sexy which is the only reason it ranks #2 for me. That being said, if food is more important to you, you’ll absolutely love this restaurant. When the garden seating is open during the warmer seasons, it has a beautiful view of the eiffel tower and the food is always consistently good.

La Renomée

La Renomée is quite literally the French version of 4 Charles but in Paris, because it’s owned by the same people. If you can never get a reservation at 4 Charles in New York, now is your chance to get as close to the iconic burger as you may ever get. I’ll be honest, though: the burger isn’t what stands out on the menu to me (and it’s truthfully not nearly as good as 4 Charles’). After all, we are in France, not the US. The Dover sole meunière and filet mignon are absolutely delicious, and if you drink martinis, this is the restaurant in Paris to order one at. The tarte tatin is the best I’ve ever had, except I substitute the crème fraîche with a scoop of iconic Berthillon vanilla ice cream.

Lou Lou’s

Great for dinner year round because it’s super sexy and also fantastic for lunch in the summer when the garden seating is available. Definitely one of the harder reservations to get so I’d recommend telling your concierge you’d like to go well in advance, but really worth it because the food is 10/10.

L’Aperouse

If you know me you know one of my favorite cocktails of all time is a Pornstar Martini and you’ll find the best one I’ve ever had at L’Aperouse. I’ll be honest, some of the decor is a bit gaudy, but it’s worth it to me for the martini. The fries are served in bread baskets which makes for excellent vibes, and the steak au poivre is *chef’s kiss*.

Giraffe

Nothing about this restaurant is special besides the direct view of the eiffel tower which makes the experience completely worth it. To be honest with you, the service is so bad you may not even get a table with a good view of the eiffel tower regardless, but if you do you’ll have an absolutely magical night. The food is good enough, and I would recommend booking the second dinner seating at 9pm so you can see the eiffel tower sparkle and so they don’t rush you through your meal like they do in the first seating.

Did you know Parisians take hospitality so seriously that they created their own star rating system for hotels? A five star hotel in Paris will be one of the most luxurious experiences of your life, and worth every penny in my opinion.
