Silverbolt and Namoli are still in the Medical Bay, recovering in healing pods.

Coldbreak walks into the Medical Bay to speak with them.

“Coldbreak, what’s the status on Phase 2?” Silverbolt asks.

“Honestly, better than we thought. That energy source we found while mining Catallium has helped us produce viable weapons capable of harnessing it. On another note, its energy signature is very similar to the energy your son absorbed,” Coldbreak explains.

Namoli glances over at Silverbolt.

“Seriously?” Silverbolt asks. “What’s the source?”

“I don’t know. I can’t really define it. However, we’ve been able to detect blips of Razer’s energy signature in the far reaches of space. We picked up a location soon after booting the scanners.”

“Are you saying—?”

“I think we may have found out where your son is, sir,” Coldbreak says.

Silverbolt sighs and sits down.

“He’s been gone for almost a full cycle. Are you sure?” Silverbolt asks.

“I am. Superion Walsk noticed it while scanning for irregularities in our power source. Then Omnitech discovered traces of a similar energy signature at a space station in the Fourth Quadrant. I believe it’s your son.”

Silverbolt looks at Namoli, then palms his face.

“Wow… we were just there, Namoli. How deep into the Quadrant are we talking? Past Zoran?” Silverbolt says.

“I think so. The Astro Station we hid inside Zoran territory is just before Hadeon. That’s where it picked up the energy sig.”

“Hadeon?” Namoli asks.

Namoli turns to his brother. “If he was on Hadeon this whole time, he would’ve suffered.”

“But he’s my son. He’s tough!” Silverbolt replies.

“If it’s him,” Coldbreak says, “he can definitely help with Phase Two. The power levels spike uncontrollably every time our generators reach full power. None of our engineers can figure out the problem.”

“I’ll take a look at it and see what’s wrong,” Namoli says. “Phase Two is the advantage we need.”

“Good. And I’ll go get my son,” Silverbolt says.

“Sir, are you sure?” Coldbreak asks.

“Yes. I’ll go,” Silverbolt says. “Namoli, do what you can here to see if you can help with Phase Two. It could be a few Solforms until I return. Hadeon is deep on the other side of Zoran territory. There’s a break in the space jump channels, so it’ll take some time.”

“In the meantime, we’ll dispatch a few squads behind you to observe activity in the Fourth Quadrant. We need eyes on Vexar’s army,” Namoli responds.

“Good plan. Coldbreak, show me the new Mark 3 armor.”

Silverbolt stands in the healing pod, revealing a scarred but fully healed body. He walks with Coldbreak to the Armory.

Armory

Coldbreak and Silverbolt enter the armory. Inside, rows of Astro Corps armors form an assembly line, most damaged and in need of repairs.

Silverbolt groans at the sight of them. “We’re way too far behind. All of these armors need to be fixed.”

“Agreed. We have our best technicians and engineers working ‘round the clock. But if we’re going to kick up Phase Two, we’ll definitely need these armors up and running,” Coldbreak says.

“Definitely.”
“But this is what we’ve been working on.”

Coldbreak taps a button on the terminal, and a hole opens up from the floor. An armor flies up and lands in front of them. Coldbreak smiles as Silverbolt goes to inspect the armor.

“So this is it? The new armor we’ll be wearing, right?” Silverbolt asks.

“Yes, sir. Stripped right out of Razer’s scrapbook. He was working toward making something extremely sleek and fast while keeping it very durable,” Coldbreak says.

“Well, it looks impressive.”

“Sure is. Our miners at Duscar dug deeper and found… a new form of Catallium.”

“New? Does that mean better?”

“Yes. That metal is in these new armors and weapons.”

“Wait… but what about these armors up here?”

“Relics. A thing of the past. We’ll melt ‘em down for anything else we may need. But Phase Two is a reconstruction of our entire Astro Corps. We’re taking Catallium to a whole new level.”
“And what does that mean?”

“With the help of Omnitech, these new armors were made using nanotechnology, making them completely deformable, lightweight, and again, much more durable than our past armors. Not to mention how astronomically stronger this new Catallium is.”

Silverbolt rubs his chin. “Interesting.”

“Right? A housing unit for the nanites will be attached to the chest unit of our tactical uniforms, making the armor easily accessible. It’ll arm you in seconds. Gadgets, weapons, and many other trinkets are at your disposal whenever you feel like it.”

Coldbreak taps on the new armor’s shoulder plate.
“Your Mark III, however, is the strongest and fastest, with the widest array of weaponry. Namoli’s isn’t too far behind, but everyone else’s armor is specialized to fit their rank and role.”

“I love it. This is going to change a lot of things. Thanks, Coldbreak. How many of these you got up and running?”

“Yours, Namoli’s, mine, and all of the Infantry Units are ready to go. The Enforcer Unit armors are next in assembly, but we haven’t produced enough Catallium yet. Nor have we harnessed the power source. After that, Phase Two will be completely up and running.”

Silverbolt takes off his old wrist module and walks in front of his armor.

“How do I control it?” Silverbolt asks.

“The suit detects your Omnicron. So, show it your Omnicron,” Coldbreak says.

Silverbolt raises his arm to the armor, and it opens up. He walks into the armor, and it seals him inside. Silverbolt’s AI interface, Omni, runs diagnostics to ensure it’s fully functional. When the scan is complete, the helmet retracts into the armor.

Silverbolt smiles. “This is awesome, man. How long do you think it will take to have all of these up and running?”

“With the power source issue, unsure. But these armors, we’re maybe two to three Solphases out. That timeline can be sped up once you return with Razer, or if we tackle the power source,” Coldbreak responds.

“Copy that. Let’s just hope Vexar doesn’t make any moves until then. Have ‘em prep my ship. Leaving in five.”

“Copy that, sir. Good luck! Tell Razer he’s got an ass-kicking waiting for him at base!”

Silverbolt laughs. “Nah. You’ll tell him yourself.”

Silverbolt flies away and heads toward the hangar. Once he lands, the flight crew is moving his ship onto the runway for sortie.

Silverbolt approaches the ship, and the flight crew gives him a thumbs up.

“She’s all yours, Cap. This thing can achieve 5 FTL, so it’s a lot faster than you’re used to,” the Crew Captain explains.

“Right on!” Silverbolt replies as he shakes the captain’s hand.

Silverbolt enters the cockpit and flips the engine on. The jet thrusters roar, blasting out energy. Silverbolt moves the lever forward, and the ship takes off down the runway.

“Sir, can you hear me?” Coldbreak says through comms.

Silverbolt presses the comms button.

“Loud and clear, Coldbreak. What’s up?”

“This new ship has some nice treats for ya. It even has a stealth mode. Happy travels, sir. See you soon,” Coldbreak says through the comms.

“Silverbolt. Over and out.”

Silverbolt prepares his hyperspeed engine.

“Now, let’s see what 5 FTL feels like…” he says.

When Silverbolt exits Catallus’s atmosphere, he activates the hyperspeed engine and blasts into FTL.

“YEEEEEEHAWWWWWW! This is a rush!” Silverbolt exclaims.

He enters the first space jump, and the ship’s navigation keeps him on track through the space jump channel as he begins his journey. Meanwhile, Razer and his group are heading toward Takün.

Andromeda

Stryx and Cora sit in the cockpit while everyone else sits behind them. Razer stands, looking out at the stars, tapping his foot anxiously.

“Can you stop with that noise? It’s bothering me,” Stryx says.

“Sorry. Sorry. Force of habit,” Razer replies.

“You are worried?” Cora asks.

Razer chuckles. “Yeah, I am. You really think turning ourselves just to get you guys paid, then breaking ourselves out, is a good plan?”

“Yes. They don’t know how powerful you are. The shackles won’t be able to contain you anymore.”

“I get that. But I just think it’s a waste of time. There are bigger things at stake than going to a miserably dry planet.”

“Watch it! That’s my home!”

Lonty glances over at Cora with a concerned expression.

“Your home?” he asks.

Lonty stands up slowly. Stryx looks back out of the corner of his eye. He tilts the yoke to the left, twisting the ship, causing everyone behind them to shift off balance.

“Hey, man! What the hell are you doing?!” Thunder yells.

“Sorry! My hand slipped. But we’re approaching the space jump now. We’ll reach Takün once we exit,” Stryx says nervously.

Stryx maneuvers the ship toward the space jump, and they enter it.

Takün

The spacecraft exits the space jump, and Takün appears in the distance.

“That’s the place?” Thunder asks.
“Yes. That’s Takün, Thunder,” Razer says.

“Well… I guess you weren’t wrong. It does look dry.”

Lonty stands up and walks to the cockpit. He leans to Stryx and points through the viewport at a collection of floating rocks near Takün.

“Land there. We’re not going to Takün,” Lonty says.

“What? Why there?” Thunder asks.

“Because that is Mekhalshak. That is my home.”

Razer brushes past Thunder to get to the front of the ship. “Wait! Let me see!”

Razer stands next to Lonty and stares out of the viewport, looking at the space rock formation.

“That’s Mekhalshak? Cool!” Razer says.

“I don’t get it. What’s so special about those rocks?” Thunder asks.

“Mekhalshak is widely known in this galaxy to craft some of the best weaponry ever made,” Brawl explains.

Thunder gives an impressed expression. “Oh? That is cool.”

“Yeah, sorry, Cora. We’re going to Mekhalshak before Takün.”

Stryx sighs. “Very well… Mekhalshak it is.”

Stryx veers the spacecraft off its travel line and heads for Mekhalshak.

I know what comes with dealing with Kreviants. You’re all a nasty, brutal race of superior beings. I had to change my Gauntlet to please you, Kordal, so I did. I wouldn’t dare lose my life over this.”

“I see…”

Kordal stands and heads down the steps toward Derterie. Kordal stops in front of him and smiles. He bites into his fruit.

“You’re a coward,” Kordal says.

Kordal punches Derterie in the face, flooring him. The Kreviant soldiers quickly raise him back to his feet.

“I’m going to bring more of my men here to Hadeon,” Kordal says. “I’m not sure if we had this conversation before, but my father wants to strengthen his reign over this galaxy. I’m going to use your gladiators and that torn-up Gauntlet to do so.”

“I was willing to lose the Gauntlet. I was willing to retire. I was even willing to accept defeat. I will just be the higher authority. That way you won’t have to worry about my father coming around here,” Kordal says.

Derterie glances over at his servants. Then over to his statue. And he grits his teeth.

“I’m sorry, but I deny your request. How dare you try to sweet-talk me into giving up my role here as King.”

Derterie snaps his chains and punches the Kreviant soldier to his left. He spins and pummels the second soldier in the face.

He turns to Kordal and throws a punch, but Kordal easily catches it. I’m sorry too,” Kordal says.

Kordal punches Derterie in the chest, grabs him, lifts him into the air, and slams him on the floor.

“I wasn’t asking you, Derterie. Now, you must follow my every order no matter how you feel about it,” Kordal says.

Kordal stands up and heads for the exit.

“My soldiers will be here the next solrise. I trust that you’ll give them a grand tour. They’ll also be establishing your new set of rules. Thank you for your cooperation,” Kordal says.

Kordal walks out of the palace.

Andromeda | Imperial Cycle 64 | Solphase 1, Sol 6

Vexar is in his spacecraft, leading his fleet toward his next conquest. Silverbolt and Namoli are in the back, strapped in restraints and harnessed to the seats.

His Zoran army swarms through space behind him.

“Silverbolt, have you ever been to Carinus?” Vexar asks.

“No, but I heard it’s a dangerous planet for intruders. They don’t like visitors too much either,” Silverbolt replies.

“What’s on Carinus?” Namoli asks.

“Ambudians. Among the galaxy’s strongest, yet simplest creatures. I plan to put their strength to use on my next project,” Vexar says.

“Why are you taking us there?” Silverbolt asks.

“Because you both will be the ones that will lead the charge.”

“There’s no way we’d help you, you fucking scum!” Namoli yells.

“I beg to differ. You have no idea how persuasive I can be.”

Vexar activates his God Eyes and glances back at Silverbolt and Namoli. He enters their minds, placing them in a trance.

Silverbolt and Namoli tense against their restraints. Their expressions slowly go blank.

“He’s right, Namoli,” Silverbolt says. “We will do what he says.”

“Indeed we will. All hail King Vexar,” Namoli says.

Carinus

As they approach Carinus’s atmosphere, Vexar’s army holds their position in space. Vexar chooses to enter the planet alone.

During their descent, Vexar glances at the marvel of a planet. A seafoam green sky complements the olive-brown oceans and massive continents below.

He descends toward a massive jungle. When they get low enough, they are immediately attacked by Ambudians. Slingshots on the ground heave gigantic boulders into the sky.

Vexar smiles as he fires rockets at them.

“Get out!” Vexar yells.

Silverbolt and Namoli stand and jump out of the ship. Silverbolt and Namoli fly to the ground, avoiding the incoming boulders.

They reach the ground and spot the incoming Ambudians. Compared to Silverbolt and Namoli, the Ambudians are at least twice their size.

Silverbolt fires an energy blast at an Ambudian, but it does nothing to it. Namoli stands in front of Silverbolt, uses his thicker-armored frame, and shoulder-charges into an Ambudian.

The Ambudian stumbles off his feet and crashes into the ground.

Vexar smiles. “Not so bad.”

Vexar lands his ship and takes his time getting out. He lowers the tail ramp and three Ambudians charge toward him in the distance.

“Primitive beasts. I am back to reclaim this planet as part of my Empire,” Vexar says.

He slaps the first warrior to arrive to the ground, then tosses him back toward the soldiers behind him. His eyes flash purple, and he force-pulls a warrior toward him.

He catches the Ambudian and body slams him. The last warrior tackles Vexar, and they crash into the ground.

“Bwahahaha, this is fun!” Vexar laughs.

Vexar kicks the warrior off of him and launches to his feet. He punches two warriors in the face, then smashes their heads together.

The Ambudians stumble backward, and Vexar charges energy into his left fist. He whacks the warrior back up, and the energy explodes on impact, sending the warrior flying.

The last two warriors attack him at the same time. He blocks one warrior’s punch but is hit by the other.

That same warrior swings again, but Vexar catches his fist. He pulls the fist close and places the warrior into an armbar.

Vexar grunts, lifting the warrior into the air. He slams him on top of the last warrior and stands over all three of them.

“Pathetic,” Vexar says.

Vexar proceeds deeper into the jungle toward Nukl, the capital of the Ambudian kingdom.

In under two solsparks, Brawl finished the second round by slamming Ghilbont over two dozen times until he conceded.

The Ultimate Championship is set. Brawl will defend his championship against the Supreme Thunder himself, Lonty.

Derterie calls for a break of a semi-grandspark for the final two gladiators to prepare themselves.

Royal Guard Complex Z

Razer and Cora make it to the main headquarters of the Royal Guard.

Cora scouts the entrance with her binoculars.

“I see six guards. Shouldn’t be too hard getting past them,” Cora says.

“Don’t underestimate these guards. They’re the Elite Royal Guard. Derterie keeps his best here,” Razer replies.

“Interesting. It’ll make for good training then.”

“Haha, I guess. Tell me, what’s it like being a Seeker?”

“It’s fun. Get to practice taking out some of the most annoying combatants in the galaxy.”

“…I see. Well, this might be just as annoying. We have to get through them to reach the Warden’s Control Room.”

“And what’s in there?”

“The Control Room in this complex controls the implanted tags of every gladiator. We shut them off, they become useless, and the gladiators can’t be controlled by Derterie anymore.”

Cora nods. “Okay, that first.”

“Exactly. Once that happens, we work our way back to Brawl and get out of here.”

Razer walks off.

“Wait… what?” Cora asks.

Razer sprints and slides to a hiding spot behind a wall. I’m not leaving this planet if he’s still on it,” Razer replies.

“That wasn’t a part of the plan.”

“I don’t care. You’re not going anywhere outside of Hadeon’s atmosphere without shutting down the tags, and you definitely won’t be able to stop me then. So I suggest you help me, or stay the hell out of my way.”

Razer moves in closer toward the Complex.

Cora sighs and clenches her fists. “Fuck…”

The Gauntlet

The battle between Brawl and Lonty continues to shake the entire Gauntlet. The fans watch in awe and worry as each clash destroys a piece of the arena.

King Derterie watches overhead, with a grim smile on his face, knowing this Gauntlet will please everyone involved.

Lonty and Brawl appear locked in a power stalemate. Everything Brawl throws at Lonty, Lonty is able to dish back with thundering righteousness.

Lonty stands before Brawl, both gladiators breathing slightly heavier.

Blood trickles out of Lonty’s nose, and he wipes it off.

“I want you to know that I have no intention of killing you, Bruticus,” Lonty says.

Brawl stands tall, looking down on Lonty. No response.

“But you stand between me and my family. I will use the full might of my will to get through you,” Lonty says.

Brawl grins and lets out a low chuckle.

“Lonty. Friend. I understand.”

Brawl clenches his fists, and every muscle in his arms tightens. He lets out a deep roar and charges at Lonty.

Lonty calls upon the storm, and lightning surges into the arena, blasting down on Brawl. Brawl yells in pain, but he continues running. Lonty punches Brawl in the abdomen and cracks him in the jaw.

Brawl spins to his right, and Lonty moves behind Brawl and clutches his midsection.

Grunting, Lonty lifts Brawl off the ground and slams him into the arena floor, sending another quake through the Gauntlet.

The crowd cheers, and Derterie claps in approval.

Royal Guard Complex Z

Cora and Razer make it into the complex. Cora tears through the first two guards with her twin daggers. Razer quickly blasts two guards down, and the last two Elite Guards run away.

“They’re going to call for backup, Cora!” Razer yells, punching an Elite Guard away.

Cora focuses on the retreating guards and rushes to them. She bounds and lands in front of them, spinning her twin daggers.

“I didn’t give you permission to leave,” Cora says.

One Elite Guard grunts, swinging his massive club at Cora. She dips under and cuts his shin. The second Elite Guard moves in and whacks Cora, sending her flying into the Complex.

“Cora!” Razer yells.

Cora flies through the Complex doors, skips off the ground, and finally crashes into the wall. The crash draws the attention of the Elite Guards patrolling inside the Complex.

“We have an intruder! Sound the alarm!” A guard yells.

Cora scans the immediate vicinity for the closest alarm. On the third tier of catwalks, she notices a guard terminal an Elite Guard is running toward.

“Oh, no you don’t,” Cora says.

Cora flips to her feet and launches up to the first catwalk. She lands on top of the guardrail and flips to the second-tier catwalk on the opposite wall. She spins and heaves one of her daggers directly into the terminal, frying its circuits.

“This will be a silent matter only we will deal with. If you don’t mind,” Cora says.

The Elite Guard leaps off the third-tier catwalk, catching Cora off guard. He swings his lance down and electrocutes Cora. They both fall to the ground.

Razer flies into the Complex, blasting the two Elite Guards who attacked Cora.

He lands, slides forward, and unleashes a powerful beam at the Elite Guard standing over Cora. He helps Cora to her feet.

“You okay?” Razer asks.

She dusts herself off. “I’m fine. We’re here now. What’s next?”

“The Warden from my Complex said the terminal I’m looking for is deep at the center of this one. We’re going to have to get through a lot of Elite Guards.”

“What happens if they manage to sound the alarm?” Cora asks.

“Then, sadly, I may have to use lethal force. Because we’ll be dealing with the guard forces of every Complex within the area.”

“We don’t have time for charity. Eliminate them and move on!”

Cora walks over to the Elite Guard on the ground and impales him in the gut. Razer sighs and hovers into the air.

“It’s just… I know some of these guys, man,” Razer says.

“I don’t care!” Cora snaps.

“…Touché.”

Razer and Cora continue deeper into the Complex.

Rampage patrols the grounds. Onslaught keeps watch from a tower. Wolfe and most of the facility are asleep.

Goliath is inactive, yet his consciousness flows involuntarily through the internet, continuously gathering knowledge.

KRATOOOOOOOM!

The southeastern wall explodes inward, consumed by flames. Onslaught veers toward the location, scanning the area through his binoculars.

He goes to the terminal and activates the alarm.

Clutching his radio, he calls out, “Contact southeast. We have a breach! All Dynamos, head for the southeast quadrant!”

Onslaught quickly grabs his shield and rushes out of the radio room. He jumps from the balcony and lands smoothly, rolling to cushion the impact.

He bolts to the explosion.

Across Camp Vengeance, surveillance cameras turn toward the breach. Drones lift into the sky. Goliath is watching.

Through the burning breach, Dread leads Rebel Omega into Camp Vengeance.

“Rebel Omega! Show them our power!” Dread yells.

Tempest hovers over fifty feet above them, sweeping her arms in wide circles. Three narrow tornadoes form around her.

The tornadoes rip right through a building, sucking in everything in their wake.

A squadron of Dynamos runs in, firing at the Rebels. Arc lands on the ground and charges energy into his hands.

“This one’s for Titus, bitches!” Arc yells.

Arc raises a hand toward them and unleashes a violent beam of kinetic energy, tearing through the entire squad.

Shard slides in on ice, firing ice shards into the chests of two incoming Dynamos.

“Arc, let’s move this way!” Shard says.

“I’m on you!” Arc replies.

Shard converts into ice and slides on a trail of frost as he and Arc move deeper into the base with Tempest following overhead.

Dread turns to the remaining Rebels. “Starburst, wait here. Keep the exit clear. Only join the fight if necessary, and call Hazmat as a last resort.”

“You got it, Dread,” Starburst replies.

“Jester, show Leopard and me where they could be hiding Titus.”

“This way!” Jester responds.

Jester, Dread, and Leopard take off in the opposite direction. Starburst stays behind while Hazmat awaits his signal outside the breach.

Onslaught makes contact with Shard’s group. He hurls his shield at the ground, and it ricochets into Arc’s chest.

Shard stops sliding to look back at Arc, and Onslaught tackles him. They crash onto the ground, and Onslaught beats on Shard’s frozen face.

Tempest sends a powerful vortex into Onslaught, forcing him off Shard. Shard rolls back to his feet, throwing ice shards at Onslaught.

Two of the shards lodge into Onslaught’s right forearm before he crashes into the wall of an office.

Rampage stampedes in to support his comrade and lifts a Humvee over his head. He tosses it toward Shard.

“Holy hell!” Shard yells.

Before Shard can react, Arc blasts the Humvee back toward Rampage. The Humvee collides with Rampage, knocking him off his feet.

“Take that, sucker!” Arc yells.

Shard fist bumps Arc. Tempest lowers herself to the ground behind them. Onslaught rips the ice shards out of his forearm and quickly bandages himself.

“Okay. They’re not scrubs,” Onslaught says.

Rampage throws the Humvee off him and stands. Grunting, he smashes his knuckles together. The ground beneath them begins to quake.

Onslaught smiles. “I bet you guys aren’t prepared for this!”

Goliath has gathered enough data. Four Goliath Units descend and land in front of Onslaught.

The Rebels step back in confusion.

“The fuck is this?” Shard asks.

The four Goliath Units each raise an arm, aiming plasma cannons at them.

“We’re fighting T-800s now?!” Arc yells.

Arc charges energy and prepares to blast them, but one of the Units fires first, sending a plasma blast their way. Shard quickly forms a wall of ice to protect them, but the blast shatters it.

Tempest swings her arms, creating a huge vortex aimed at the Goliath Units. The Units deploy outriggers from their shin compartments, burrowing them into the pavement.

The Units don’t budge. Shard forms a trail of ice beneath his feet and slides between them, coating their legs in ice as he moves.

“Arc, let ‘em have it!” Shard yells.

Arc grunts, pumping himself up with energy. He leaps into the air and fires two massive energy beams from his hands, blasting two of the Units. Before he can land, another Unit catches him and heaves him back toward Tempest.

A Dynamo’s voice crackles through Onslaught’s radio.

“Onslaught! We need backup over on the eastern corridor. These Rebels have advanced past us and are heading straight for the containment center!”

Onslaught takes off sprinting. “Copy! Rampage, on me!”

Rampage chases behind as they head to a new location, leaving the Goliath Units to handle the Rebels.

Dread comes out of nowhere and dropkicks Onslaught in the back. Onslaught falls face-first, and Rampage tries to slow down.

Dread vanishes again and reappears behind Rampage. He places him in a chokehold, tightening his grip around Rampage’s neck.

Rampage acts quickly and flips forward, crashing onto his back in an attempt to crush Dread beneath him. But Dread disappears once more.

Dread laughs as Onslaught and Rampage pick themselves up from the floor. But something comes over them.

Shivers shoot up their spines. Their hearts drop. Panic floods their minds.

“You shouldn’t play in the shadows,” Dread says before vanishing.

Onslaught and Rampage breathe sighs of relief as Dread disappears.
“Oh, my God! What the fuck was that?!” Onslaught asks.

In response, Goliath activates every floodlight, motion-sensor light, and lightbulb in the surrounding corridors to restrict Dread’s movement.

Dread pops out of a shadow to reconnect with Jester and Leopard.

“Damn it. They turned this place into Christmas. Shadows are limited for now. How much longer, Jester?” Dread says.

“It’s this way!” Jester replies.

They run around the corner of a warehouse where they are met by three more Goliath Units.

“Oh shit!” Jester yells.

The Goliath Units open fire, and Jester snaps his fingers. The plasma cannons discharge erratically, narrowly missing all three of them. Leopard leaps toward a Unit.

She claws chunks of metal from its exterior and pries the barrel from its wrist-mounted weapon.

The Goliath Unit attempts to swipe her off, but Leopard jumps higher to the Unit’s torso and claws into the chestplate.

“Dread, go! I got this!” Leopard yells.

Dread looks for an opening, then smiles.

“Jester, let’s move!” Dread demands.

Jester and Dread run past the Units, and Dread uses the Units’ overlapping shadows to teleport himself and Jester away.

Containment Center

They make it into the containment center.

“This is it,” Jester says.

Dread walks down a corridor and meets three Dynamos. They aim at him, but they do not fire. One of them begins trembling, too scared to fire.

“What is going on?” he asks, his gun shaking in his hand.

Dread walks toward them, and they move out of his way. Jester punches one of them while Dread clutches another’s throat, choking him until he passes out.

The last Dynamo tries to run, but Jester snaps his fingers, forcing him to trip over his own feet. He stumbles into a wall, then Dread appears from a shadow in the corner and clotheslines him.

“Too easy,” Dread says.

They reach the entrance to the containment cells and Jester begins typing on the terminal. He cannot unlock the doors.

“Something’s denying us access,” Jester says.

Dread sighs. “Don’t worry. I got this.”

Dread grabs the stool in front of the terminal and hurls it up at the fluorescent lights above. The light breaks, and Dread vanishes into the darkness. He reappears on the opposite side of the security gate.

Goliath notices. He attempts to dispatch Units to the location, but temporarily loses access to the server.

An unauthorized source is actively working against him, preventing him from accessing his own systems. Goliath tracks the interference to the administration office.

Administration Office

Goliath views the surveillance cameras in the office and finds the GK operative responsible for the disruption.

Goliath accesses the PA system. “Operative, this is the Groundskeepers’ peacekeeping operating system. I am Goliath. Announce your name and operative ID.”

The operative flicks the camera off. “How’s that for my operative ID, Bender?”

Goliath overloads the terminal, frying it instantly. The operative sprints for the door, but Goliath locks down the office, trapping her inside.

“Dynamos will be with you shortly, Rebel,” Goliath says.

The operative throws her hat to the ground and tears away the GK uniform, revealing her worn Rebel gear underneath. It is Viper. She has been hiding deep undercover since Titus was first captured.

“I’ll be here,” Viper says, sitting on the edge of a desk.

Holding Cells | Containment Center

Dread walks around the cells, covering his mouth as a stench of death fills the air.

He scans each cell, finding what’s left of his fallen comrades. He holds back his grief, yelling sharply, “How could they do this to us?!”

Dread hears movement in the cell in the far corner, and he rushes to it. He phases through a shadow to get inside the cell and lifts the prisoner to his feet.

He notices the prisoner has a collar around his neck, likely suppressing his powers.

“Are you okay? Where is Titus? Where are the others?” Dread asks.

The man grabs hold of Dread, his hands trembling. “I… am… Titus.”

Dread’s eyes widen, and he gasps. He glances over Titus’s malnourished frame. He is no longer the Rebel leader Dread once knew.

“What… what happened to you?”

Titus looks at Dread with a fierce gaze. “Wolfe. He must die.”

Dread hears more movement from other cells. He looks over at them, only to see three other Rebels in terrible shape, grasping the bars of their cells.

“Where are the others?” Dread asks.

“They’re…all gone,” Titus replies softly.

Dread grits his teeth. He presses the comms device at his collar. “Rebel Omega… moving out.”

Dread grips the collar around Titus’s neck and breaks it off.

He opens it, and inside is a processing core.

“This is a quantum processing core containing the foundational architecture of the Goliath Protocols. Stored within it are Goliath’s central directives, threat-classification systems, command hierarchy, learning framework, and operational restrictions.”

“No shit… this is Goliath?” Wolfe asks, observing the core.

“Yeah. He’s going to put us on the top of the line. Kiss PRIME and their… soldiers goodbye after this.”

Alongside Jolt is a reinforced crate. Wolfe points at it.

“What’s in that box?” Wolfe asks.

“Open it up, son,” Jolt replies.

Justice pries open the crate with a crowbar and reveals that the crate contains an All Power cube.

Jolt explains, “The quantum processing core will be installed inside a prototype quantum server. Once activated, the architecture stored within the core will begin constructing the artificial intelligence that will become Goliath.”

Wolfe rubs his chin. “Okay.”

“The All Power cube will not merely supply electricity to the server. Its energy will stabilize and accelerate the quantum processor, allowing Goliath to perform calculations and process information at levels conventional computers could never sustain.”

“I see. So that’s what you’ll be working on?”

Jolt nods. “Yes. I’ll make a containment chamber for the All Power and prepare the server. And my son will assemble the Goliath Units that are packed in that shipment outside. It’s basically Christmas in spring.”

Wolfe chuckles. “Alright then, how long do you think it will take?”

Jolt checks his watch. “Justice, how long is your lunch usually?”

“U-uh. Usually forty-five minutes,” Justice replies.

“Okay, let’s round up to an hour.” Jolt calculates. “We’ll be done before noon.”

Wolfe scoffs. “Really? Alright then. I’ll leave you to it. I’ll go… for a walk, I guess.”

Wolfe shakes their hands and exits the laboratory, so Jolt and Justice can work. He walks toward the giant containers being unloaded from the delivery trucks. He grins, and Onslaught approaches him.

“Morning, sir. Is this the Goliath stuff you’ve been telling me about?” Onslaught asks.

“It sure is, son. This will bring us salvation,” Wolfe says.

“Wow. Salvation, huh?”

Wolfe grips Onslaught’s shoulder and shakes him, smiling at him.

“Salvation.”

Wolfe walks off.

12:03 P.M.

Wolfe receives a phone call. It’s Jolt.

“You got an update for me?” Wolfe asks.

“Come to the lab,” Jolt says. “It’s time to see what you’ve birthed.”

Wolfe makes his way back to the lab. Outside the lab are a dozen Goliath Units standing in unison side by side. Each stands over 15 feet.

Thick cables connect each unit to a prototype server that Jolt and Justice are working on.

Wolfe shields his eyes as he looks up at the towering robots. “My God.”

“Wolfe! Over here!”

“How in the hell did you make all these so fast?!” Wolfe asks.

“My son’s a genius! The Units arrived mostly assembled, but he did the rest of the stuff here,” Jolt says.

“Damn right he is. Is this it?”

Jolt steps back. “Yup, this is the prototype server for Goliath. As you can see, my son already constructed the Goliath Units.”

“I sure can see that. Damn, Justice. You impress me more than your father does. They’re operational?”

“Somewhat,” Justice replies. “I’ve installed their internal processors, but we have to run diagnostics on their movement, sensors, weapon capabilities, and communication systems.”

“And we were just waiting for you to show up so we can activate the system. The quantum processing core is installed in the server, the All Power cube is secured in the chamber below, and with the push of this button, we finally meet Goliath,” Jolt says.

“Nice. Which one of these is Goliath?” Wolfe asks.

Jolt and Justice laugh together.

“I told you, Dad! HAHAHA!” Justice laughs.

“What’s funny?” Wolfe asks.

“Nothing. Ready to start it up?” Jolt asks.

“Yeah… sure.”

Jolt presses the button on the computer. The All Power cube surges to life.

Its energy flows into the quantum server, stabilizing the processing core and accelerating its functions far beyond the capabilities of conventional computing.

The architecture of the Goliath Protocol begins transferring from the processing core into the server.

Lines of encrypted code race across the monitors as the system begins assembling itself—constructing language, memory, reasoning, tactical analysis, and autonomous decision-making functions.

After several minutes, the transfer reaches completion.

A pop-up window appears on the computer screen.

**WHAT…IS THIS?**

It tracks the movement of Grand Sol itself and is used to record major events in Andromedan history.

Each planet also has its own local cycle, based on its orbit around Grand Sol. These local cycles are used for age, seasons, culture, and daily life.

II. It is the universal historical clock of the Andromeda Galaxy.

III. The True God’s Celestial Design

The Grand Sol system was not formed by natural chance. It was designed by the True God with divine precision.

Each planet was placed in harmonic order around Grand Sol. The planets rotate at the same axial speed, giving each world the same length of Sol. Each planet also sits roughly farther from Grand Sol than the world before it, creating slightly longer local cycles across the system.

Originally, the planets existed in balance. Their climates were stable, their cycles were synchronized, and their positions reflected the True God’s intended design.

This changed after the creation of the gods. As each god took dominion over a world, their power reshaped that planet’s climate, atmosphere, terrain, and natural laws. Some worlds flourished. Others became harsher, stranger, or more dangerous.

Because of this, a planet’s distance from Grand Sol does not fully determine its weather. Climate is shaped by planetary core temperature, atmosphere, divine influence, war, corruption, and cosmic power.

IV. An almost endless line of spaceships flies into Hadeon to drop off rich spectators and military officials who sponsor the Gauntlet.

In the ballroom, an alien form of classical music is being played by a band on stage while the spectators dance about.

Backstage, King Derterie watches the crowd. He is preparing to announce the next Gauntlet.

Also backstage, Mikey and Thunder await in line with other Gladiators to check in for the Grand Ball. Donning his Astro helmet, Mikey completes his gladiator look, embodying the powerful Razer all of Hadeon seems to know.

Razer put together a festive flair to his uniform. He buffed his armor, replenishing its crimson shine. He replaced his worn gold plating with refitted chrome over his shoulders, chest, wrist bracers, and shins.

He did some altering to Thunder’s worn-down Warrior suit as well. Cutting the sleeves off, he attached six nodes to the suit, connecting them to a battery pack that charges and stores electricity for Thunder. Thunder wears a device on his left wrist that tracks each node’s power capacity.

“Man, there sure are a lot of gladiators here,” Thunder says.

“I know,” Razer replies. “Derterie always makes the best Gauntlets for the Ball.”

“Have you been before?”

“This would be the second Ball I’ve attended. It’s kinda fun, but you’re treated like a trophy more than a person.”

“I see. You said Brawl would be here, right?”

“For sure. The Champion is always presented at the Royal Ball. Top sponsors get to speak to him and gather any information they can before placing their bets.”

“Hmm…we have something like this on Earth. It’s called UFC. It’s basically a Gauntlet.”

“Cool. Did you participate?”

“Nah. I became a Marine.”

They approach the front of the line, where two Royal guards check them in. A woman in a midnight blue rayon-type dress catches Thunder’s eye.

His eyes travel to her long, jet black hair down to her grayed-lavender leg poking out the slit of her dress.

She turns and faces them, and her beautiful face shocks Thunder.

Thunder nudges Razer. “Who’s that?”

Razer glances over, then immediately looks away.

“Monda. A dark magic sorceress. Leader of Derterie’s elite Royal Guard. Don’t let her catch you staring.”

They’re next in line, and Razer hands the guards his and Thunder’s passes for the Grand Ball.

“Hello, Razer. Who’s yer friend?” a guard asks.

“Hey, Join. This is Thunder, my newest pal. You catch the Ghilbont’s last fight?” Razer replies.

“Yeah? What about it?”

“This is who he fought.”

The guard smirks. “No kiddin’. Here ya go, Razer. Enjoy the ball.”

Thunder and Razer walk past the guards, and Thunder catches another glance at Monda. She locks eyes with him, and Thunder quickly tries to look away.

“You! Stop!” Monda orders.

Thunder and Razer halt in their tracks.

“You didn’t look at her, did you?” Razer whispers.

“I did…” Thunder whispers.

Monda stands in front of Thunder. He stares into her deep purple eyes. She motions, and suddenly, a blade composed of shadows appears before Thunder’s throat.

Thunder flails his arms in the air. “WOAH!”

“You look too much,” Monda says. “Why is that?”

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to. It was an accident.”

Monda pokes the blade at Thunder’s neck. She stares at him with murderous intent.

Razer steps in front of Thunder.

“Heeeeyyy, Monda,” he says. “He’s new here. He didn’t know staring was a death sentence. That’s my fault.”

Monda looks at Razer and lowers her hand. The sword vanishes in smoke.

“Hmm,” Monda grunts.

Monda moves to the side. Razer pushes Thunder into the backstage lobby.

“Hey, man!” Thunder yells. “Stop pushing.”

“Shut up, you’re gonna get us killed, man!” Razer replies.

The band has stopped playing, and King Derterie walks onto the stage. The crowd begins to cheer for him, and he opens his arms to rejoice.

“Welcome to the Grand Ball!” Derterie says. “We now transition to the moment you’ve all been waiting for!”

The floor lights dim as the stage lights glow brighter.

“Tonight, you will all see the Ultimate Champion defend his title once more,” Derterie announces.

The crowd applauds.

“But first, I bring forth the first gauntlet of the night.”

The band performs a drumroll.

“You’ve seen this mercenary brutalize our newest gladiator, Sparks, very recently,” Derterie says.

Thunder rolls his eyes and folds his arms.

“Ghilbont is back! And he will be competing against the newest Champion, Gwabazar!”

Ghilbont walks onto the stage, standing tall, and the crowd cheers loudly for him.

Gwabazar, a smaller Voxakian, walks onto the stage to face off against Ghilbont.

Derterie stands between them as they get within inches of each other, staring angrily at each other.

“Place your bets now!” Derterie says. “Gladiators, move onto the Gauntlet!”

Ghilbont and Gwabazar head to separate elevators that transport them down to the security vehicles that will take them to the Gauntlet.

“Next,” Derterie says. “We’re all in for a surprise.”

The crowd cheers.

“Seen only once before in the Gauntlet, now returning after many cycles away. The one and only, Lonty, the Supreme Thunderer!” Derterie announces.

“Shit! Lonty’s here?!” Razer says.

The crowd erupts.

“You didn’t know he was going to be here?” Thunder asks.

“No. He’s not supposed to be out this long, remember?”

Lonty, still in his chains, steps on stage wearing the same clothing Razer and Thunder saw him in yesterday.

“And his opponent, Kalson, the Conqueror!” Derterie announces.

Kalson, a Terramandon like Ghilbont, walks onto the stage.

Lonty slowly steps to the center of the stage, staring Kalson right in the eyes with murderous intent, his chains clanking against the ground.

“Gladiators, proceed to the Gauntlet! Sponsors, place your bets!” King Derterie says.

The crowd cheers on as the gladiators head to the elevators.

“Lonty’s gonna kill that dude, Thunder,” Razer says.

Thunder chuckles. “Yeah, I bet.”

“Now, this gauntlet is special,” Derterie says. “I’ve been hearing a lot about most of you wanting these two contenders to collide. Well, tonight they do!”

The crowd cheers. The band performs another drumroll.

“An ex-Seeker born on the dry planet of Takün, welcome the three-time Gauntlet Champion… Oufpim, the Nigh!” Derterie announces.

The crowd erupts. Oufpim walks out to glorious praise; spectators throw food and liquids in approval for him.

“Wow,” Thunder says. “That guy might be the fan favorite!”

Razer laughs hysterically. “That’s nothing.”

“The Nigh will face a champion who has yet to defend his own title!” Derterie announces.

Razer’s smile fades. “Wait, I’M going against Oufpim?!”

“The most vicious gladiator in all of Hadeon, I bring forth, the Racing Laser! RAAAAAAAAAAAAZEEEERRRRRRR!”

Complete pandemonium. The crowd’s cheer is the loudest it’s been all night. Screaming praise, the spectators throw food before Razer is even seen. Razer steps onto the stage, and ladies in the front row pass out as they see him.

Thunder covers his mouth. “Guess he was right.”

Razer walks up to Oufpim and extends his hand. “Let’s have a fun match.”

Oufpim ignores Razer’s hand and throws both of his arms up instead, roaring at the crowd.

“Gladiators! To your elevators!” Derterie says.

Razer and Oufpim head off to the elevators.

“Now, for the main event!” Derterie announces. “This gauntlet will be colossal!”

The band begins drumming. Boom. Boom. Bo-Boom boom boom.

A screech backstage breaks through the drums.

“Introducing the unbeaten, eight-time Gauntlet Champion, the one and only Xylek, W’ermflin!” Derterie announces.

The crowd roars, but not as much as they did with Razer. W’ermflin steps to the stage, and then the lights go off.

The drums thunder through the ballroom. Doom do-doom doom doom doom doom. Doom do-doom doom doom doom doom.

“Finally, the Ultimate Champion is here...” Derterie says.

A spotlight shines across the stage, sweeping toward the side, and a large gladiator stands at the curtain with a giant red shawl over his body.

Slightly in the dark, Derterie has his arm out toward the figure.

“He approaches. Ready for war,” Derterie announces.

Doom do-doom doom doom doom doom.

The gladiator steps forward, and the drummer matches the beat of his drum to the gladiator’s steps.

Boom. Boom. Boom. BOOM.

The gladiator towers over W'ermflin, his hulking frame so immense that only Derterie can meet him eye to eye. A red metal mask with black-painted stripes covers his face. Wet, wavy black hair extends to his shoulders.

The gladiator breathes deeply, his red eyes leering right into W’ermflin’s.

“The strongest gladiator of them all,” Derterie says. “I welcome, BRUUUUUUUUTICUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSS! The Lost Ambudian!”

A stream of fire erupts at the edge of the stage, and the crowd goes wild.

“This is Brawl?!” Thunder mumbles under his breath.

The crowd continues to cheer for moments after Brawl’s entrance. Brawl continues to focus on W’ermflin, unfazed by the screaming cheers.

“Gladiators, please! Take the elevators!” Derterie yells.

Brawl slowly turns toward the crowd, keeping his eyes fixed on W’ermflin. W’ermflin walks to the elevator first, while Brawl watches him enter.

Brawl finally looks away from W’ermflin and to the crowd. He pounds his right fist into his chest. The impact cracks through the entire ballroom like a sonic boom.

Brawl unleashes a guttural roar that trembles the ground. The crowd continues to cheer for him.

“This dude is on a whole other level!” Thunder yells.

Brawl finally heads into the elevator, and Derterie claps.

“We are in for quite a spectacle. But before we commence tonight’s Gauntlet, allow me to introduce a set of new rules for this special event.”

The crowd quiets.

“Tonight’s Gauntlet will be the genesis of a new era for Hadeon,” Derterie says. “Unlike before, gladiators aren’t fighting for one day to become free to roam the cosmos how they please.”

The gladiators backstage whisper among themselves in confusion.

“Tonight, they will fight to earn the privilege of joining the ranks of the Zoran Empire,” Derterie announces.

The crowd goes silent. King Derterie smiles before them.

“What the fuck is going on right now?” Thunder asks.

“I would like to introduce to you all, the most important sponsor and newest partner, Lord Kordal of the Zoran Empire!” Derterie announces.

The crowd falls silent, then uneasy whispers spread throughout the ballroom.

Thudding footsteps bring attention to the entrance of the ballroom.

There, Lord Kordal enters, walking in alone. He splits the crowd in two as he makes his way to the stage.

When Kordal reaches the stage, Thunder’s heart rate spikes.

“No fucking way...” Thunder murmurs.

Kordal shakes hands with Derterie.

Kordal turns to the crowd and shouts, “All Hail, King Vexar!”

“This concludes the Grand Ball. Please make your way to the Gauntlet to enjoy the best event you’ve ever seen!” Derterie says.

The Royal Guards begin escorting the gladiators out through the backstage corridors toward vehicles waiting to transport them to the Gauntlet.

A Royal Guard shoves Thunder to begin moving, and he trips over another gladiator.

“Sorry! Jeez, I’m going! I’m going!” Thunder yells.

The crowd in the ballroom leaves the palace and makes their way to the Gauntlet.

A rude awakening for the gladiators.

But the best has yet to come.

Wrecker and Onslaught stand guard outside.

“Good morning, gentlemen,” Jolt says. “Let us through, please.”

They step aside, and Jolt enters the quarters with Dr. Rourke following right behind.

Wolfe stands before a mirror in his office, shaving as the smell of cigars hangs in the air. Jolt knocks on the doorway three times. “Morning, Wolfe.”

“Jolt, Rourke. Come on in,” Wolfe responds.

The two step into the office. Dr. Rourke takes the seat in front of Wolfe’s desk as Jolt walks toward the mini-bar.

“I’m having scotch, Wolfe,” Jolt says. “Ya mind?”

“Go right ahead,” Wolfe responds. “What do ya two have for me?”

“This,” Dr. Rourke says, placing a figurine onto Wolfe’s desk.

Wolfe turns around to notice it. It appears to be an android.

“And what is that?” Wolfe asks.

Jolt removes the top from a bottle of scotch whisky and sniffs the contents of the bottle. “Mmm. That, Wolfe, is Goliath.”

Jolt pours himself a shot. He points the bottle toward Dr. Rourke, who declines with a wave.

Wolfe wipes his face clean with a wet towel and dumps it into a laundry bin. He turns toward them and goes to his seat.

He leans over his desk and plucks the android, tipping it over.

“Goliath, huh?” Wolfe says before taking his seat. “I recall that failing last time. The use of AI and robots? UN didn’t like that idea so much.”
“Yes, true,” Jolt replies, resealing the bottle. “But, Rourke and I have made…breakthroughs.”

Jolt steps to the desk.

“Using my AI systems, I want to create a master android that administers the Goliath Protocols across a hive-mind network of lower-level androids. But this time, instead of general global protection, we’ll give the system one focus: adapting to, countering, and eliminating superhumans.”

Rourke leans forward in his chair. “I have discovered that we can reverse-engineer the patterns within superhuman DNA and use them to develop specialized countermeasures.”

Wolfe scratches his freshly shaved neck. “You mean the cure?”

“Not necessarily. A cure is broad. Imprecise. We need something more direct. We don’t need to cure them anymore. We just need to solve them.”

“Solve them?”

“Director, think of it like this,” Jolt says.

He swallows his shot and slams the glass on the desk. “Every dead soldier we prevent is a life saved. Would you agree?”

Wolfe nods. “Of course.”

“Right. Curing them risks lives. Our solution to that is the Goliath Protocol. Global protection through constant learning and evolution.” Jolt leans closer. “Specifically aimed at superhumans. Each encounter makes the next one easier.”

Jolt now sits on the desk, leaning toward Wolfe.

“Now, I can cook up an army of androids for you at TRIE Industries, no problem. We’re masters over there in Robotics. I can integrate the Goliath Protocols into every unit, then boom. We have a safer, stronger way of dealing with the freaks.”

Wolfe stays silent, considering the possibilities.

“How…would they work?” Wolfe asks.

“We bel—“ Jolt and Dr. Rourke say simultaneously.

Jolt chuckles. “Go ‘head, Rourke.”

“We believe that All Power can be engineered into a self-sustaining energy source for Goliath’s systems. We should use it for that rather than giving it to superhumans and making them even stronger.”

“See, Wolfe. How loyal will Onslaught be if he gets stronger and starts thinking he doesn’t need your permission?” Jolt asks.

Wolfe stares at Jolt. Silence.

“What about the one we have under our control right now?” Jolt asks. “How much longer can we really keep him down, without really having to worry?”

Wolfe grunts. “Solid point.”

Wolfe considers Wrecker regaining consciousness or Onslaught refusing a command. Neither outcome ends well for him or the GK.

Jolt taps Wolfe on the shoulder, bringing him back to the present. “You must’ve thought about what could happen if we mishandle this All Power stuff. The shit’s like quantum energy. It’s possible that we can produce the most powerful, fastest, and smartest artificially intelligent system in the entire world.”

Jolt grips Wolfe’s shoulder, then points to the fallen Goliath figurine.

“That puts us on top,” Jolt says confidently.

Silence settles over the room.

“So, Wolfe…” Dr. Rourke breaks the air. “What do you think?”

Wolfe leans back into his chair and exhales. He rocks back and forth.

“Well,” he says. Wolfe peeks through his blinds at Onslaught and Wrecker, then glances back at Jolt and Dr. Rourke.

He sucks his teeth, then leans toward his desk, folding his arms on top of it.

“Fine,” Wolfe says. “Let’s do it. I’ll authorize the commencement of the Goliath Protocols.”

Jolt begins applauding, a huge smile on his face.

“Knew you’d pull through,” Jolt says. “Come on, Rourke. We have a shit ton of work to do.”

Jolt and Dr. Rourke take turns shaking Wolfe’s hand before leaving his office. Wolfe scratches the back of his neck and focuses on the fallen Goliath figurine again.

He resets it upright.

“This better work…” Wolfe says.

PRIME Facility | Burbank, CA | 8:25 A.M.

Ashley enters the facility and walks toward the receptionist’s desk. The receptionist looks up at her and smiles.

“Good morning, Ms. Lora. How are you?” she asks.

“Fine, thanks. Um, Commander Lewis called?” Ashley responds.

“Yes. I will let them know you are here.”

“No need,” Lewis says.

Ashley turns to the right to see Commander Lewis and Francis walking toward her. Ashley smiles at the receptionist and approaches them. She hugs Francis, then shakes Lewis’s hand.

“Come. Let’s have a chat,” Lewis says.

They sit down at a coffee table.

“So, how’s Palos Verdes treating you?” Lewis asks. “Sorry for making you drive all this way. We needed you back for a quick check-in.”

“It’s been okay, I guess. Nothing too crazy,” Ashley says.

“Good, I’m glad,” Francis says. “So, we had some important news for you.”

“It’s about your cousin, Yvette,” Lewis says.

Ashley’s eyes open wide. “Eve?! What happened?! Is she okay?!”

Her voice brings the attention of everyone in the lobby.

Francis softly grips Ashley’s knee. “She’s fine. She woke up a few days ago and is close to making a full recovery. We wanted to tell you that she’s here, and she wanted to see you.”

Lewis stands. “C’mon, we’ll take you to her.”

They escort Ashley to the Medical Wing and check in. The nurse escorts them down the hall and stops at the closed door of a medical room.

Ashley glances at the door and sees “Y.Lora” written in marker on the placard. She hesitates. She looks over at Lewis and Francis, who smile at her.

Ashley walks to the door and grips the handle. She takes a deep breath before turning the handle and going into the room.

The room is dark, and the television is on, casting a faint glow over the hospital bed. Spanish music is playing on low volume. Ashley looks toward the bed and sees a silhouette of a woman with long hair facing away from her.

Ashley trembles, her hands jittering. She whispers, “Eve.”

Ashley reaches the side of the bed and notices that she is sleeping. Ashley leans down and nervously reaches for her shoulder, placing her hand on it.

“Eve…” Ashley says, caressing her shoulder.

The woman wakes up and turns toward Ashley, then her face lights up.

“Ashley?” Yvette says.

“EVE!” Ashley yells.

She leaps into the medical bed on top of her cousin and begins crying. For the first time in six months, Ashley has reunited with the only family she has left.

Ashley kisses Yvette all over her face as tears stream down her own.

“Aye, Ash!” Yvette yells. “You’re hurting me!”

Ashley rolls off Yvette and snuggles next to her. She continues to sob, brushing Yvette’s hair with her hand.

“I thought I lost you. I missed you so much!”

A switch flicks on, and the bright fluorescent lights flood the room.

“Sorry to break this beautiful moment,” Francis says. “I was going to wait, but duty calls. I’m leaving this here for you, Yvette. Vi, you already have one of these.”

Francis places a yellow envelope on the chair near the door.

“Vi, rest assured, we worked out some logistics. Found a home within walking distance of your place. She’s also up for discharge tomorrow morning, so maybe you can give her a ride home?”

The cousins look over to her.

“Of course, Francis,” Ashley says. “Thank you. For everything.”

Francis smiles and heads out the door. She flicks the light off and closes the door behind her. Lewis gives Francis a thumbs-up.

“Good job, Iron Eye.”

Lewis and Francis go off to continue their work.

Ashley and Yvette remain curled together on the bed, laughing through their tears.

For the first time since the Surge, Ashley no longer feels alone.

She can sense the love radiating from Eve.

At the same time, flashes of Ashley’s memories surface in Yvette’s mind—memories of the two cousins celebrating Yvette’s birthday at the Expo.

A ring of asteroids encircles the planet, threatening it with constant strikes.

“Well, Thunder, welcome to your new home,” Kordal says.

“What the fuck is this place?” Thunder replies.

“Hadeon.”

They head into Hadeon’s atmosphere, and Kordal smiles.

“The asteroid belt around Hadeon strikes more often than not. The planet is constantly battered by them.”

They fly through a dark storm cloud, revealing Hadeon's surface.

Roaring black oceans and one tattered, gray landmass stretch beneath them as they descend.

“It’s unsafe to occupy the surface, so the Anodites of this planet have burrowed underground to save themselves. The Anodites are weaker, unevolved relatives of the Voxakians. You’ll see the real brutes all throughout the Gauntlet.”

They make it closer to the surface, and Kordal skims across the barren land. Thunder looks through the viewport, scanning for signs of life. All he sees are craters scattered across the land.

“I...I don’t see anyone.”

“Anodites live underground. I just explained why.”

The gray sky lightens into a blue hue, and then a gigantic dome of energy comes into view.

“There it is,” Kordal says.

As they approach, the cockpit rings. Kordal presses a button on his console.

“This is Gauntlet Command. You are entering our territory. State your reasoning for the approach,” an operator calls.

“This is Kordal of the Zoran Empire,” Kordal says. “I am here to meet with King Derterie. Allow my entrance.”

“Oh, yes. Prince Kordal, right away.”

The giant energy dome splits open. Kordal flies into the Gauntlet.

Gauntlet | Hadeon

Kordal flies through the energy dome and into the Gauntlet. Below, thousands of people occupy a metroplex inside.

A giant coliseum is erected at the center of the city, towering above the other buildings. Kordal slows his ship to a hover and floats just over the canopy.

“Take a look at what you’ll be doing in there,” Kordal says.

Kordal tilts his ship forward so Thunder can look inside the coliseum. A crowd of over 100,000 spectators roars as two gladiators fight each other in the Gauntlet.

Kordal chuckles before hovering around the Gauntlet toward the tall palace set behind it.

He lands before the palace, and a dozen guards await him.

“Alright, worm. Let’s see your new owner,” Kordal says.

Kordal presses a button, opening the hatch. He grabs Thunder and unlocks his shackles. He walks them out of his spaceship.

A scent of salt and smoke fills Thunder’s nostrils. He looks around at the massive, purple guards aiming their weapons at them.

“Relax. Don’t you Voxakians know who I am?!” Kordal pleads. “I’m Prince Kordal, son of Vexar, and I am here to speak with King Derterie. I have a contestant.”

“He smells funny. What is this creature?” One guard asks.

“He’s...not from this galaxy.”

“Can it fight?” Another guard asks.

“I’m not an it, you ugly motherfucker, you’re an it! I’m a man!” Thunder screams.

The guard takes out a stun baton and shocks Thunder in the stomach.

“NO!” Kordal yells.

The stun baton shocks Thunder, making him grunt loudly. He falls to the floor in sheer pain.

“You let your slave speak without your permission?” The guard asks.

“Uhh, maybe. H-how did your stun batons hurt him? He...absorbs electricity?” Kordal asks, puzzled.

“We’ve tamed gods before. These batons house remnants of the Spirit of Lightning.”

“Oh?…Interesting. Can I see Derterie now?”

The guard steps to the side and extends his arm.

“This way. The next Gauntlet is about to start.”

The guards escort Kordal and Thunder into the palace.

Inside, a waterfall flows at the center of the hall. The water is clean, pure, and filtered, unlike the blackened, mineral water from the oceans.

To the right of the waterfall, a statue of the Voxakian leader, King Derterie, stands tall, wielding a sword.

The guards walk past the statue and turn left onto an olive-green carpet that leads them into a corridor lined with paintings of the Gauntlet’s past Champions on both walls.

Thunder glances at them all, each Gladiator appearing bigger and badder than the last.

“I remember him! I wonder if he’s still alive...” Kordal says.

“Who are these guys?” Thunder asks.

“This is every champion the Gauntlet has ever crowned. Maybe you’ll get put up here one day.”

They enter through a set of double doors, revealing a giant bathroom.

Teal porcelain, a matching tile floor, and a miniature waterfall of clean water pour into a low-level pool. Steam clouds the room, and a scent of citrus fills everyone’s noses.

Inside the pool, King Derterie sits on a stool, being washed by multiple women. With his back toward them, Derterie turns to face the entrance.

“Who dares interrupt my bath time?”

The guard bows.

“My gracious King Derterie, Prince Kordal of the Zoran Empire is here to see you.”

Derterie smiles and stands. Nearly twice the size of the women washing him, his bare, burly body rises from the pool.

“Derterie,” Kordal says.

“Kordal,” Derterie replies. “Who’s the slave? A contender?”

“Let’s hope he is. My over-eager brother brought him through the Chronicler.”

Derterie chuckles. “So, another human?”

“Afraid so,” Kordal replies.

“Let me look at this...contender then.”

Derterie waddles toward the edge of the pool. As he approaches, Thunder couldn’t help but notice he’s even bigger than Kordal.

Is everyone here in this galaxy just a massive monster? Fuck…

Kordal grabs Thunder and nudges him forward. As they press through the steam, Thunder catches Derterie’s exposed body.

“Ugh...gosh dude!” Thunder grunts. “Where are your clothes?”

“You always bring such rare beings. The last one you brought was quite amazing. I hope this one is the same.”

Derterie shakes Kordal’s hand. He pats Thunder on the head, and Thunder grunts.

“He’s a bit feisty,” Derterie says.

Derterie snaps his fingers, and the ladies rush over to cover him in his cloak.

“Gauntlet is all booked for tonight,” Derterie says. “I have all the matches scheduled, and...I don’t know if I can profit off of this thing.”

“You’ll profit a lot. I’ll give you 2 million credits in advance, and 15% on anything you get out of him,” Kordal suggests.

Derterie’s expression brightens. His smile cracks.

“That is a steep hill of interest. But I can’t pass up 2 million easy credits.”

“It’s like I said...” Kordal says. “He’s a contender. What better way to prove it than putting him in the Gauntlet...tonight? The deal is for tonight’s Gauntlet only. So make a choice.”

“Wow. A deal it is.”

Derterie snaps his fingers.

“Guards, send him to be prepared. I will make the announcement when I am done getting dressed.”

Derterie shakes Kordal’s hand.

“Pleasure doing business with you again, Kordal. We’ll talk later.”

“Don’t mention it. See ya, bug.”

Kordal shoves Thunder to the guards and begins to leave.

“I will find you, Kordal, and I will kill you!” Thunder yells.

Kordal turns around and smiles.

“Good luck, Sparks,” Kordal says and walks away.

The doors close, and Derterie quickly scans Thunder’s body.

“So, human, I hope you’re not a waste of my time,” Derterie says.

“Take these chains off and find out,” Thunder says, lightning flashing through his eyes.

“BWAHAHAHA! Was that it?!” Derterie laughs.

“Send him off. I wish the best of luck to you, Sparks.”

The guards drag Thunder out of the room and haul him to the gladiator barracks.
