There are moments when we feel resentful and want revenge. This is a reaction from feeling hurt. It occurs when we have not yet remembered who we really are.

Several years ago, after giving a talk at the Center for Spiritual Enlightenment, Susan, a member of the pastoral committee and friend, shared the famous proverb of Confucious, “Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.” Alexandra Dumas, weaved a story of revenge and suffering in The Count of Monte Christo, reflecting the consequence of revenge.

Wisdom is always simple and direct.

When the thoughts within your mind become complicated, it is projecting false thoughts.

Everyone makes mistakes.

But mistakes are opportunities to learn valuable life lessons. So don’t dwell on your mistakes, instead learn the lesson within the error. Feeling like a failure is a condition we impose on ourselves. It can be a temporary condition if we choose. Instead, think of failure as steppingstones to success.

I recall reading a passage in Donald Walter’s book, The Path, where he wrote that genius depends more on attunement than hard work. Take a moment and reflect on that thought. Understanding that sentence can change your life.

So, what did Walter mean by attunement? He meant we must attune to God. This choice opens the channel for the flow for intuitive guidance, peace, abundance, love and God. When we experience failure, we are attuned to the ego, not love. The ego’s job is to keep us stuck. You can choose another way. Within you is everything you need.

Remember the Beauty of Your Soul—You can do it!

Anything that disturbs your peace of mind is a trigger.

It is a call to pay attention to what you are thinking in that moment, because it is a lie. It is also an opportunity to heal. Everyone is destined to heal. Beyond time and space is a state of mind where peace abides; where love is everywhere, waiting for you to remember that you are love and loved.

Every time you heal an old wound you are expanding your ability to remember the beauty of your soul. You begin to remember that as a soul, you are abundant and have everything because you are everything.

You have all the opportunities you need to succeed. In my book, Get Me Out of Here! What’s Beyond This Madness, I shared the story about Paul.

Paul, a retired engineer said, “It’s hard getting out of the ego. I get mad when someone cuts me off in traffic.” Paul felt it was a personal attack.

“The driver of that car doesn’t know you,” I replied. “He is living his script. Why are you really angry? Because it is not about the driver of that car.”

After thinking about it, Paul said, “It reminds me of my mother. She was always cutting me off.”

Paul realized being cut off in traffic triggered an unhealed wound, that of feeling discarded by his mother. But what if we go back farther? When we don’t feel loved, it is because we left the Source of love at the beginning of time.

When someone is treating you badly, it means they don’t have knowledge of who they really are, and that’s exactly why they act out. Their blindness of Self causes fear and defensiveness. They believe the mind virus that tells them they are unworthy. They are lost in a hell of their own making. You don’t need to join in their darkness by reacting. Take a step back, breathe, remember you are of love. Fear is not your home, love is.

Soul Memories Part II

Last week I reminded you that you have everything. Yes, really, you do, even when it doesn’t feel like it.

If you aren’t feeling abundant yet, remember the way to get there is by subtracting, not adding anything to yourself. You already have everything. Subtract self-beliefs that make you feel limited. As you do that, you begin to remember your true Self, which is abundant and limitless.

Your soul journey is about being open to soul memories. Within your soul memories you will find the real you. The process is simple, yet it is not easy. Trust that your journey is destined to succeed.

Real inner freedom is earned in hard struggles on the battlefield of life. You are not fighting with another. You are fighting yourself. You are confronting your demons with absolute honesty. You are banishing illusions that have kept you in bondage. As I said previously, your journey of the soul is hard, and yet it is simple. Let go of falsehoods. What’s left is truth. What’s left is the real you. Freedom, beauty and love is waiting for you to remember.

Imagine that you have everything you need. Take a moment to just pretend that you have unlimited abundance. Give yourself permission to feel abundant. Play with it. Have fun with it Then notice how you feel.

So how do you access this abundant resource beyond a few moments of feeling it?

First, remember that you don’t have to add anything to yourself, because you already have everything. If you are struggling financially, or with a relationship or within yourself, then it feels hard to accept that you have everything that you need to chang your current circumstance. So just acknowledge or pretend for the moment that you really do have everything.

Now, since you are not adding anything to yourself, then you must be subtracting from yourself to find this abundance. Well, how does one go about subtracting?

You subtract what is not real. You subtract by letting go of thoughts that cause you dis-ease, anxiety, stress, and fear. In other words, any self-belief that makes you feel limited, not good enough, guilty, duty-bound, resentful, or alone comes from the ego. The ego’s job is to keep you stuck and miserable. Your soul path is about releasing the thoughts that bind you into suffering.

As you let go of self-limiting beliefs, you start to remember. You experience an insight, and a new way of understanding yourself. A sudden feeling of peace occurs. It may only last a moment or more. But something inside you just cracked open. You begin to see your life differently. You begin to see your life from the soul, not the ego. You start to understand what previously seemed mystifying. You start to let go of blaming others for your unhappiness. You start to feel good about yourself.

This is a process of cracking open who you really are. You are breaking the self-imposed barriers that were created to protect you; but they no longer serve you. Instead, they sabotage your life. I’m going to talk more about this next week; about the subtle ways we shift our awareness of ourselves. About breaking barriers that we didn’t even know we harbored within our mind.

Do you sometimes feel like you are wandering this world without a compass? It is a common experience. But we do have a soul compass. We just forgot. We have always had it and can use it to navigate our lives. It can guide us through challenges and struggles, through the storms that we encounter in our lives.

Troubled times can overwhelm us, or it can ignite the soul.

There is a reason why you are reading this. You are aware of the undercurrent of a divine yearning. You seek peace. You seek deep unconditional love. You seek who you truly are without the disguises of the ego.

Your soul is calling you to love. A love that is eternal, that is real. Your soul is calling you to remember who and what you really are, in all of its beauty. It is calling you to remember that nothing outside of love is real. Its calling you to put aside feelings of guilt, limited, and not good enough. These thoughts are not real. These are the tricks of the ego to keep you stuck.

Everyone at some moment reaches a turning point, to take a different road. To make a choice, to stop being guided by the ego and listen to the voice of your soul. The soul speaks to you through your intuition. The soul is connected to Spirit. You have always been connected. Your intuition is your compass to navigate your life.

By listening to your intuition, you become aware that you have what it takes to change and leave behind what no longer serves you. You are on the edge of a rebirth, toward an expansion of soul gifts. You come to realize that within you is everything you need. Your journey now is about subtracting, not adding. You already have everything.

What you are subtracting are illusions. You are subtracting false, self-limiting beliefs. As you release these illusions, your ability to receive soul guidance expands. Your soul guidance has always been there. It has been waiting for you to sense its presence.

You have the power to change your life.

I leave you with this thought: Be patient, be kind, forgive, be honest with yourself, for the essence of what you are is love.

What do you Really, Really Want?

I asked the question, “What do you really, really want?” to my Spiritual Gathering class. It is a question that requires reflection, and time. There are often many things we want. But when we sit and go through the list of wants, eventually we come to just one.

When you identify the one, a calmness settles over you. You realize you don’t have to strive for it, because it is already a part of who and what you are. You simply welcome it, allow it to come to you, allow it to unfold within. No rush, just a recognition that this is why you are here.

Recognition gives you peace.

All answers are simple. If it feels complicated, it is an illusion.

My first word was not Dad, or Mom or No. It was “Why”.

Yes, it was why.

I have always searched to understand. Everything.

How can we become loving to people who hurt us? When we understand why people are self-destructive and lash out, then we can be loving towards them. Why? Because they are only doing what they know. They are afraid. They are lost. They don’t remember who they really are.

Eventually I came to realize that you do not need to be understanding to be loving.

All you have to do is choose to be loving.

The journey to returning to love gives you many opportunities to be loving. In our early stage of awakening, we only see challenges. We feel hurt and react in non-loving way. We aren’t ready to see beyond our pain. We aren’t ready to see that this pain is an opportunity to remember that we are Love.

Of course, we can explore ways to understand ‘why’ we are confronted with challenges, sufferings, and disappointments. There are many methods to understand the ‘why’ behind what troubles us. As a psychologist, I know that this is true. These methods are helpful and can begin to crack open the door to forgiveness and love.

But we can bypass all the mental and emotional exercises to see differently. You can simply choose love.

This choice sets you free.

Simple, really.

Shifting from Magic to Mysticism

With each release of a self-critical thought, which is always an illusion, we begin to understand there is no such thing as magic. Events that occurred in the past that we did not understand are no longer thought of as magical occurrences. The ego believes in magic. The soul only knows mysticism—divine cause and effect.

The inner mystical journey is about illumination. Illumination of self-knowledge. Every time you see clearly, you are altering your relationship to time and space. You are accelerating your capacity to see beyond the physical world to understand what is real. Now, you are shifting from listening to the ego and instead moving toward trusting divine guidance. You are shifting from magic to mysticism.

Shifting from Doubt to Faith

As you let go of false self-beliefs, you are expanding your capacity to trust your intuition. Each block extinguished releases a thought from your mind that is not true. When you act on the guidance of intuition, you are building self-confidence. You see results and this leads to developing faith. Confidence is transmuted into faith. This is a faith that is built on a solid foundation of practicing, responding to your soul. This moves you out of depending on the material world for your needs. You know any resource that you need comes to you.

Shifting from Luck to Synchronicity

Luck is like magic. It is not real. It is believing that happiness is depended upon the fickle nature of the external world. This belief has no power. This belief supports the idea that you are a victim and are at the whim of the roll of the dice.

You have Power

As you continue to extinguish intuition blockers, you rely more on your soul guidance, rather than the luck of the draw. There are no accidents in your soul journey, only choices. As you continue developing your intuition by dissolving blockers you are simultaneously elevating your consciousness. Increased trust in soul guidance leads to a state of consciousness where synchronicity meets your needs. Here, your thoughts extend into the cosmic energy field and are returned to you.

You have Gifts

There are gifts within you that are waiting to emerge. You have everything you need to master your life purpose. Trust that is so.

I am a little behind getting this article to you, after having eye surgery. But here we are!

When you ask yourself, “What is my life purpose?” or “Why am I here?” what you are really asking is to understand the essence of who you are. These questions imply you are finished with the first stage of spiritual awakening, the period of darkness and despair—finished in the sense that you recognize there must be a better way to live. You are now open to possibilities that seemed closed before.

In the recesses of your mind, you are longing to understand the evolution of consciousness and how to return to a state of mind that is at one with all. Leaving behind previous consciousness levels, the soul seeks a higher vibration. The soul seeks Spirit. This begins Stage Two of spiritual awakening. Here, you must learn to trust your intuitive voice, banishing doubt and letting go of all rational thought that comes from the ego. Here, the soul explorer can find itself in shadows, seeking how to access its inner light. In Stage Two there are many subtle levels of vibration, each higher than the one before. It is an unexpected journey that takes you from the ego mind to the intuitive voice of the soul, then finally to the full liberation of Self.

When you understand your life purpose, a calmness and sense of peace is found. You come to understand that the path you are on has already been laid out. It has been designed specifically for you to move into your destiny, remembering your true Self as Spirit, which is love. Gone are the illusionary beliefs that hold you in anxiety, stress and fear.

So here is something to think about.

There are only two choices for every decision.

One is based on reality and the other is illusion.

You can choose love or fear.

Which world do you want to live in?

When you are struggling, you are in active conflict with yourself.

There is a solution.

There are some skills and natural abilities that you have that are destined to be used at certain times in your life. When you do that, they work for you. And it feels right.

When you feel resistance and struggling there is a reason. And the reason is not “Out There”.

There are times when your soul says, “Enough!”

You have mastered your abilities and talents. And it is time to move on. You know when this happens because what you used to excel at no longer feeds you. It now drains your energy. Your soul is ready to express new abilities that have been waiting to emerge.

When you try to hold on to what worked in the past and wonder why it is no longer working, you are struggling against yourself.

You have many gifts. Each gift unfolds at the right time.

Stop fighting yourself. You are experiencing a New Beginning.

Be in peace, for that is what you are.

How to receive guidance from Source. There is no need trying to be silent. Simply be.

Things happen during your Spiritual Awakening.

Elizabeth caught a glimpse of something moving. Quickly turning to get a better look, she splashed water and shampoo all over the bathroom floor.

“Nope,” she said, “it wasn’t anything.”

“I didn’t hear you!” yelled Mary from downstairs.

“Nothing!” Elizabeth yelled back.

Another flicker of movement caught her attention.

“What is that? I did see something.”

Inching closer to the hamper and sliding it slowly away from the corner revealed a tiny cream- colored mouse sitting on its hind legs staring at her. There was nowhere for it to go. They stood staring at each other.

Racing up the stairs, Mary called, “Beth, are you ready yet? They’ll be here soon.” With that, the mouse sprinted off, leaving Elizabeth looking at the empty corner.

“We have a mouse,” Elizabeth said.

“Oh, that’s nothing. Have you seen the little people?”

What are you talking about?”

“The little Swiss-looking people, they’re about three inches tall. They wear little hats, suspenders, short trousers and mountain climbing boots.”

“What?”

“Yeah, their village is in the middle of the room downstairs.”

“What?” Elizabeth said in disbelief.

“Really, you haven’t seen them? Well, pay attention tonight. They usually show up during our meetings. I’m going downstairs and set everything up. Gee, it’s cold in here,” Mary said, “I’ll put on some tea.”

The wind rattled the windowpanes. The tea pot whistled. It was six-thirty and already dark outside. After turning the lights on in the meditation room, pushing the overstuffed chair out of the way, and placing seven chairs in a circle, Mary said, “We’re ready.”

Lisa arrived first. Within minutes everyone had arrived, greeting each other with hugs, settling into their favorite chairs, placing journals and pens close at hand. Mary dimmed the lights and spoke a few words, leading the group into meditation. Silence and peace filled the room for the next twenty-five minutes.

With five minutes remaining of the meditation, Elizabeth witnessed a small village of cobblestone streets and thatched-roof houses and its inhabitants mushrooming from the floor. The village was surrounded by mountains. Four village people with mountain-climbing ropes and picks walked toward Lisa and began climbing up her leg.

Mary watching the mountaineers, chuckled, and then burst into laughter. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to disrupt everyone.”

“Yikes,” Lisa burst out. “Oh, I’m glad you did. I wanted to scratch my leg. I kept feeling something crawling up it.”

The small village nestled in the mountains existed in Elizabeth’s home, but in another dimension. Mary and Elizabeth had inadvertently stepped into the village’s dimension while meditating. Experiencing other dimensions is possible when matching our vibration to a different frequency. Everything exists on vibrational levels.

So, you may be thinking, what does this story have to do with spiritual awakening? First, it is not important to see a village in another dimension. Second, as you quiet your mind, retreating from physical sense consciousness, your vibration will change; you will have new experiences, ones you don’t understand. Do not be alarmed by unusual encounters. Your soul journey presents happenings designed to lift you, not hinder you. Your willingness toward acceptance of the unknown and unexpected is tested. It is not about passing or failing. Stepping into the unknown is an opportunity for expansion. As your vibration changes, you will feel, see, and respond differently. You may initially find this internal change confusing because it is unfamiliar. There is nothing wrong with you.

The journey of the soul moves you through many new doorways. There will be periods of feeling disengaged from things you used to like; you might even discard them. You will move away from friends, perhaps even family, as these relationships no longer support your soul path. Each is a completion of a sacred contract, thus ending the purpose of the relationship. It is not a failure to discontinue relationships that no longer serve your soul journey. As you change, family and friends may become frightened because they fear losing you to what they do not understand. Avoid judging others. Everyone has a plan through which they move at their own pace. Everyone is doing what they know how to do, as best as they can, even if it doesn’t appear that way.

You will experience times of feeling stuck. This may be because you are resisting healing an emotional wound. You can tell if it is resistance because it feels bad. Feeling stuck can also be a plateau. Plateaus are essential phases of your soul journey. It is a period of integration and rest before the next level of soul expansion. It is advisable not to rush or truncate the plateau period. New opportunities will be presented to you when the plateau phase is complete.

You will not know what is ahead. Releasing expectations permits a smooth journey, allowing hidden soul gifts to surface. This process is the unfolding of your true Self. You have finished with the barren land of suffering and blindness of Stage One. You are moving through Stage Two, healing the divisions within the self.

You will feel the presence of Spirit with you all the time, aware that it is impossible to be alone. You can ask for higher guidance and receive what you are ready to understand. Guidance comes in many ways, unique to each person.

You will find yourself trusting your path, recognizing that it is exactly what you need. There is no mistake in this design. It has been created just for you. Every person and circumstance is designed to move you to the realization of your true power as infinite Spirit in all of its magnificence.

Thoughts to Ponder

Each of you is light. You bring a radiant light into the world as you harmonize together. You are not aware of the effect you have on others−it extends beyond your perception. You are a force of lifting. It is most beautiful.

First, we always need some light heartiness

and something

to make us smile in our soul journey.

What if your biggest struggle isn’t a lack of talent, but the story you’re telling yourself about it?

A young woman once said to me, “I want to be a healer. I want to be of service to others.” Then she added, “I always serve others, but I don’t serve myself.”

Yet she couldn’t get her dream of being a healer off the ground. She felt frustrated and didn’t understand why it wasn’t working. What she didn’t see was that by continually putting herself last, she had created a life of struggle. Her dream of becoming a healer was always just out of reach.

As I listened, it was clear she had the capacity to become a vessel of healing. But her healing ability was encased. Energetically, she had trapped her own natural gift. She was holding two opposing thought systems at once, and that inner contradiction created the struggle.

When you put yourself last, you block the natural flow of energy. You stop yourself from expressing your abilities. When you consistently place yourself at the bottom of your own life, you become caught in the illusions of the ego, fertile ground for conflict and struggle. This is just one example of how we create struggle in our lives.

Think about something you want to manifest. Are you struggling with it? If so, look at the story you are telling yourself about it. Somewhere within that story is a thought that isn’t true, and that thought is blocking your dream.

Understanding our struggles is seldom easy.

Martha Graham used the phrase “divine dissatisfaction.” I like those words because they place conflict within the realm of spirit. When we see struggle as divine dissatisfaction, it becomes an opportunity for true resolution within ourselves.

When I say the word conflict, how do you feel? Does it feel tight?

Now consider the phrase divine dissatisfaction. How does that feel?

The word conflict often creates tension. But divine dissatisfaction can feel different, as if a door is opening. Divine dissatisfaction nudges us to dig deeper and understand ourselves. In that process, we uncover gifts and lessons. We remember who we truly are. We touch the core of ourselves, our true Self. This is what it means to be of service first to yourself, and then to others. There is no struggle in that. You are being yourself, not your ego self.

We often make struggle and conflict complicated. But why?

The truth is always simple. When things become complicated, it is a sign we are walking in the land of illusion.

One day while driving to the store, a thought came to me: “There are no problems.” On a deep level it felt true. Then my mind responded, “Look at all the conflict in the world. How could there be no problems?”

Turn on the news and you see abuse, neglect, political chaos, war, and endless turmoil. Saying there are no problems can sound naïve. But when conflict and struggle arise from fear thoughts, then we begin to see the problems are the ones we create, individually and collectively.

Fearful thinking creates a story filled with self‑defense and separation.

From that story comes struggle and conflict. Yet because it is a story, it is ultimately an illusion.

The young woman who believed she couldn’t build her healing practice was fighting an illusion. She believed a story about herself that wasn’t true, and within that story she struggled. The key to stepping outside the story is to see through the eyes of the soul rather than the ego.

See conflict as divine dissatisfaction, or, as one of my friends once called it, “divine resolution.” This reminds us that our soul is speaking, urging us to release the thoughts and stories about ourselves that are not true.

So what story are you telling yourself?

Remember, you already have everything. Just let go of what is not serving you. You have the power to change.

Often people tell me that they have been trying to get rid of fear. They know it is stopping them from doing what they love. Carol said, “I’m trying to expand my energy.” Simone said, “I ask spirit to take it away.”

Expanding your energy is good, but it is not going to dissolve fear. Asking for help from Spirit is good, but it is not going to dissolve fear. There is one way to dissolve fear. We will get to that in a minute.

For a moment imagine fear as a big black steel door in front of you.

There is something wonderful on the other side of the door. And you can feel it. It is part of your life path. You know that you must go through it or be stuck forever in a place you do not want to be. It feels immoveable. It feels overwhelming. It is scary.

That is fear. So how do you go through that doorway?

To go through the doorway, you decide that you want to live a full life. Then you dig down inside yourself and remember that you have emotional courage. It has always been there.

Next you walk through the doorway, even though it still feels scary. Once you walk through it, you turn around and look at the door. The door is gone. You realize it was never really there. You just thought it was. Now you feel free. You have dissolved fear.

In my last post I shared one of the three reasons why you may be saying to yourself, “I don’t know where I am going?” I don’t know if I am on my path?” Today, lets look at the second reason why we encounter these feelings.

We do feel out of sync with ourselves when we try to fit in. When we look outside of ourselves to what works for others, we question our path. But you are not others. You have gifts than only you can do. You have a soul purpose that is unique to you.

The ego encourages us to look outside of ourselves.

The ego is a trickster. Intuition is our compass. Intuition is our soul guiding us. So, if you are feeling lost or uncertain about whether you are on your path, then ask yourself, “Who am I listening to, the ego or my intuition?” Knowing this difference is essential. It is simple, but not easy. Be kind to yourself. Rest, slow down and guidance will come to you. Trust that you are guided and not alone.

Joan attended my reincarnation workshop motivated by the loss of her daughter. But underneath this desire was an even stronger one. “How do I know if I am on my path?” she said. Others in the room became more attentive, affirming they felt the same way as Joan. She also said, “The death of my daughter changed everything.”

Death of a loved one often triggers a major change in one’s life. It can be an opening to change the way you think about yourself and life. Here we find the gift of loss. Without change, we live in the past, stuck in fate, unable to expand and discover hidden abilities meant to be used in service.

So often in workshops, people come together with the same focus. In this case they really were not so interested in reincarnation, but instead, wanted answers about their life, right now, not in their past.

The road you are travelling is not easy. Crossroads, dead ends, obstacles, flat tires, running out gas, difficult relationships, job stress; that’s life when the ego is your GPS. You are not alone. Even Saints speak of having no idea where they are going. They cannot see the road ahead. Sound familiar?

The unknown road holds both spiritual awakening and non-spiritual impulses springing from the ego leaving one feeling imprisoned. The unknown road also holds wonder, joy, revelations, and love.

No one is controlling what you experience. Nothing is happening to you. You are always in charge. Are you listening to your intuitive voice that points which direction to take on the road or are listening to the distractions of the ego. Where you focus determines your experiences. Your focus moves you forward or holds you back.

It seems almost daily someone says to me, “I don’t know where I am going? I don’t know if I am on my path?” If you are asking yourself that question, there are three possibilities why.

Let’s look at one of the possibilities. It is likely that you are in a transition stage. This in-between state of mind shows progress. So, don’t beat yourself up for not knowing exactly where you are and where you are going. The mere fact that you are questioning, where you I going, is an opening to inner guidance. Allow yourself to relax. Be in the moment, not the past or the future. This is how spiritual guidance flows through you. Know that you have support from beyond, those who watch your unfoldment, holding you in their heart.
