hello weirdos, we’ve thrown ourselves well into the new year, on this side of the world the lighter mornings are on the way back! i know lots of people use january as a way of begging the year with intentions to practice yoga everyday but if that hasn’t happened, or thats become a tool to punish yourself with - don’t panic, babes. daily physical practice isn’t what it’s made out to be. do it when you can and with as much softness, support and care as you can muster.

why?

Something I’ve been annoying students with recently is why? why do you come to practice? It’s something I’ve been mulling over a lot. I think the answers are varied and like practice in wonkee - one thing isn’t ‘better’ than the other. For some, practice is a purely phyiscal thing, for others it’s about an emotional connection, for others it’s a spiritual or philosophic practice …or perhaps it’s all of these things! something I’m interested in isn’t trying to pick holes at why it should be one and not the other but placing the question with you so you spend some time with it. if you know why, perhaps it becomes easier to understand what you want from it. so, why do you practice? what is it you hope practice will bring closer? why do you keep doing it over and over again?

You might remember I ran an accessibility and running consultation this summer. Over 60% of people who took part said they were looking for or interested in an accessible run club format. The people spoke, I dreamt an idea, Mince is born!

Mince is a digital run club - once a month on a Sunday we all agree to go for a mince. That can be a run, job, walk, roll or stroll. We share our selfies and run towards something! Cheering each other on, sharing our wins!

Gossip! I spent the last two weeks in Devon earning my 50 hours yin accreditation with the incomparable Emma Peel. This training will no doubt change my teaching and has given me so much more encouragement to lead wonkee into further dismantling the yoga BS.

Wonkee Digital Retreat Day 2025

Yoga retreats can be a nice way of spending time on your practice. However, they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea - big groups, the palava of travel and often really expensive! With this in mind, every year we host a digital day retreat where members and non-members can come together for a day of moving, thinking and soft creativity - all from the comfort of their own space.

Three practices, 3hrs 30mins of fun. Lots of time between to sleep, eat and fart.
Join us for morning flow, reflections on why we practice and our relationship to it, then time for creative doodling or thinking. Afternoon seated yin practice and life drawing (don’t worry, no one will ask to see your scribbles), followed by a facilitated chat about rest before we finish with a big restorative practice!
