On the technical side, the market structure remains weak as long as key overhead barriers are not reclaimed.As long as the market trades below the 24,250 mark, the clear strategy is to "sell on rise."

SEBI to Review Derivatives Settlement & CAS Impact :

The Background: SEBI introduced the Closing Auction Session (CAS) in the equity cash segment to determine closing prices. However, because derivative expiry settlement prices are tied directly to these closing auction rates, traders faced unexpected volatility, sharp price spikes, and sudden last-minute index swings during expiry windows.

SEBI's Response & Review: Following heavy feedback, broker concerns, and a drop in derivative turnover, SEBI has announced plans to release a consultation paper within a week to review and potentially modify how derivative settlement prices are calculated.

Crude oil prices continue to sustain comfortably below the $90 level, providing a much-needed sigh of relief for global supply chains and emerging markets.

Index option traders faced another high-tension session. Nifty slipped by 75 points in the final minutes due to sudden closing shifts under the CAS framework. Regulators need to work on the modalities of how options trade, as in last 15 min options traders are trading in blind spot and big money can manipulate just by pitting the bids and later withdrawing it. We have seen yesterday, index stated cas session 250 point dow at 24000 level and then settled at 24207 level.

Open Interest (OI) data showed heavy call writing, meaning option sellers were aggressively building positions at higher levels. This heavy selling pressure acted as a ceiling, keeping indices under continuous downward pressure throughout the day.

Indian stock exchanges have introduced the Closing Auction Session (CAS) system to calculate the official closing price of F&O-eligible stocks:

• What Changed? Earlier, the closing price was calculated using the average price of trades during the last 30 minutes (3:00 PM to 3:30 PM). Now, continuous trading for eligible stocks stops earlier at 3:15 PM, followed by an auction session from 3:15 PM to 3:35 PM.

• How It Works: Between 3:15 PM and 3:35 PM, the exchange collects buy and sell orders together and finds a single single equilibrium price where maximum shares can be matched. This price becomes the official closing price.

• Why Was It Introduced? To improve price discovery, reduce price manipulation or sudden spikes in the final minutes, and make market closing prices fairer and more transparent.

• Real Impact : Real impact in first two days is totally opposite we are seeing a 150+ point jump in nifty in last 15 minutes, resulting in sudden spike in option premiums which is more dangerous on expiry day. So here traders are questioning was this move really needed? As option trader don’t know the really closing till last minute and this kills the natural movement of options which is based on greeks and now its dependent on unknown factor.

For a true breakout, we need two things to align:
