Incumbent Democrat Derek Tran advanced from the June 2026 top-two primary with 53.8% of the vote in California’s 45th Congressional District, well ahead of Republican Chuong Vo’s 15.3%. Forecasters rate the November general election as likely or lean Democratic, reflecting the district’s D+1 Cook Partisan Voting Index, Democratic voter registration edge, and recent redistricting adjustments. Tran’s substantial fundraising lead—nearly $5 million raised versus roughly $500,000 for Vo—has supported stronger campaign infrastructure and visibility. The seat flipped narrowly Democratic in 2024, and no major developments since the primary have altered the competitive landscape. Late shifts in turnout among key voting blocs, national political currents, or unforeseen candidate events could still affect the outcome before November 3.
