Michigan’s 7th congressional district remains one of the closest House races heading into November, with incumbent Republican Tom Barrett facing Democrat William Lawrence after the latter won a three-way primary in August. Barrett flipped the seat in 2024 following Elissa Slotkin’s Senate bid and benefits from the district’s recent Republican tilt, yet Lawrence has gained ground through grassroots organizing and emphasis on local opposition to proposed AI data centers. National Democratic support intensified when the DCCC added Lawrence to its Red to Blue program in mid-September, highlighting the contest’s importance for House control. Traders assign a narrow edge to Lawrence, reflecting the race’s toss-up fundamentals and recent campaign developments that have kept both candidates within striking distance in polling averages.
