The next vote must occur by August 2029 at latest under the Dissolution and Calling of Parliament Act, with automatic dissolution possible in July 2029. Recent local election losses triggered Keir Starmer’s June 2026 resignation and Burnham’s July leadership win, after which Labour polls have recovered ground against Reform UK. Traders are pricing low odds of an early contest because the new PM faces no immediate parliamentary pressure and has prioritized policy delivery on issues like social care over seeking a fresh mandate. Any shift would likely require a sharp deterioration in support or major external shocks.
