This market will resolve to “Yes” if IMF PortWatch publishes a 7-day moving average of transit calls (“Arrivals of Ships”) for the Bab el-Mandeb Strait less than or equal to 10 for any date between market creation and the listed date. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. Revisions to previously published data points made before data has been published for the listed date will be considered; however, they will not disqualify a previously published data point from qualifying. Shipping data showed daily crossings falling 20-50% for tankers (especially Saudi-origin), with some vessels diverting via the Cape of Good Hope or Suez, though overall traffic has stabilized around 30 vessels per day rather than halting entirely. In early September 2026, Houthi ground offensives advanced toward the Mokha/Taiz coastal area overlooking the strait, raising risks of expanded control or further disruptions, while selective clearances allowed some non-Saudi traffic (including Chinese tankers) to continue. These developments have driven trader focus on the extent of effective closure versus selective enforcement and potential de-escalation signals.
