George Kittle enters the 2026 NFL season recovering from a torn Achilles sustained in the January wild-card playoff win over the Eagles, returning for Week 1 against the Rams in Australia just eight months later. The 32-year-old tight end posted modest numbers with two catches for 12 yards and zero touchdowns on five targets in that opener, appearing rusty in both the passing game and run blocking per PFF grades. With backup Jake Tonges likely out for the year and wide receiver Ricky Pearsall sidelined, San Francisco is increasing reliance on Kittle alongside quarterback Brock Purdy and new additions like Mike Evans, though coaches plan a measured snap-count ramp-up. Kittle’s prior per-game production, including seven touchdowns in 11 games during 2025, sets a baseline, but his age and early-season limitations will shape red-zone opportunities and overall target share moving forward.
