Omarion Hampton enters his second NFL season with the Los Angeles Chargers as the clear lead back after flashing as a 2025 rookie, when ankle injuries limited him to nine games and four rushing touchdowns on 124 carries. New offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel’s scheme, which has historically featured versatile and explosive running backs, pairs with an improved offensive line featuring Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt to potentially boost goal-line work and red-zone efficiency. Health remains the central variable, as recurring ankle issues cut into his rookie production and could affect snap counts or backfield splits with Kimani Vidal and Keaton Mitchell. Analysts highlight his speed, power, and receiving skills as factors supporting a larger role, though consistent availability through 17 games will determine whether he sustains or exceeds his prior per-game scoring rate.
