D'Andre Swift enters the 2026 season as the lead back for the Chicago Bears following a three-year contract extension signed September 11 that locks him in through 2029. He posted career highs of 1,087 rushing yards and nine touchdowns in 2025 under head coach Ben Johnson and opened 2026 with 18 carries for 124 yards and three scores in a Week 1 win over Carolina. Through two games he has 34 carries for 169 rushing yards, though Week 2 production dipped to 45 yards on 16 attempts amid poor weather against Minnesota and a fumble. Minor ankle and knee issues have been monitored but have not limited his availability, while backup Kyle Monangai provides complementary work. Quarterback Caleb Williams' Week 2 hamstring injury raises questions about offensive balance and passing volume that could influence Swift's early-down workload and overall yardage totals.
