Karolina Muchova enters the US Open first-round matchup as the clear favorite against Sinja Kraus, backed by her world No. 7 ranking, consistent hard-court success, and recent deep runs at Flushing Meadows. Muchova reached the Wimbledon final earlier in 2026 and captured the mixed doubles title at this event just days ago, demonstrating sharp form despite a post-Wimbledon singles layoff. Kraus, ranked around No. 90 and making her main-draw Slam debut after prior qualifying exits, has compiled most of her wins on clay and holds a limited hard-court record. Their first meeting highlights a significant gap in experience and surface preference, with Muchova’s all-court game and return strength expected to dictate play on outdoor hard courts.
