Cilia Flores, wife of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, has been held in U.S. federal custody in Brooklyn since U.S. forces captured the couple in Caracas on January 3, 2026, and transported them to New York to face drug trafficking and weapons charges. On September 9, 2026, her attorneys filed a motion seeking her release to strict home confinement in the Southern District of New York, citing a documented decline in her cardiac health—including chest pain, arrhythmias, a possible minor heart attack in July, significant weight loss, and the need for cardiac catheterization—while proposing 24-hour armed private security, GPS monitoring, video surveillance, and other restrictions. Federal prosecutors oppose the request. U.S. District Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein has scheduled a hearing on the motion for October 8, 2026, with both defendants scheduled for trial in June 2027.

If Cilia Flores is released but remains under house arrest, the market will still resolve to "Yes".
If Cilia Flores is released on parole, bond, or any other condition that results in them leaving state custody, the market will resolve to "Yes".
Transporting Cilia Flores to another location of custody (e.g., a different prison, court, or hospital within the correctional system) will not suffice to resolve this market to "Yes".
Temporary outings from prison for purposes such as testifying in court or before Congress, while still under the custody of correctional authorities, will not count as a release.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from government authorities or corrections departments; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
