The federal indictment of the Southern Poverty Law Center on eleven counts of wire fraud, false statements to a bank, and conspiracy to commit concealment money laundering remains active after a federal judge denied its August 7 motion to dismiss on vindictive prosecution grounds. The case, centered on allegations that the organization used donor funds to pay informants embedded in extremist groups between 2010 and 2023, advanced with a superseding indictment in June and a second superseding indictment in August that added individual charges. SPLC entered a not guilty plea, and the matter is set for trial in October 2026 in the Middle District of Alabama. Traders assign a 62% implied probability of a guilty finding this year because the charges have withstood early legal challenges and the case is progressing under standard criminal procedure without dismissal.
