India’s CPI inflation accelerated to 4.82% in August 2026 from 4.45% in July, propelled by food prices rising to 5.95% amid elevated onion, garlic, and ginger costs plus energy pressures from West Asia tensions and a weak monsoon. The RBI projects 5.0% average CPI for fiscal 2026-27, with professional forecasters aligning at the same level and quarterly paths pointing to 4.8-5.7% through year-end. These confirmed data points and central-bank guidance underpin the 90.5% market-implied odds for 4.50%+, reflecting trader capital at risk rather than speculation. A sustained drop in crude prices, stronger rainfall improving kharif output, or faster monetary easing could still pull the annual print below that threshold before resolution.
