About the Author

Masoom Parmar dances with questions and curates with contradictions. Born to a Zoroastrian mother and Muslim father in Gujarat (yes, prepare the identity bingo!), he trained in Bharatanatyam and Kathak — which he now insists on calling Indic temple and court dances — but spends most of his time politely side-eyeing the gatekeepers of “classical” dance.

When he’s not taking Thehraav very seriously, he’s somewhere in Bangalore running ALIF, teaching arts management like it's a contact sport, or curating and/or producing festivals . He’s also a sucker for the occasional existential crisis.

Off Stage, On Script is where he reflects, rants, and theorizes, and about the glittering but often exclusionary stages of Indian dance. Here, nothing (and maybe everything) is sacred; everything is open to reimagination.
