**In California's 4th congressional district, the top-two primary advanced two Democratic candidates—longtime incumbent Mike Thompson and challenger Eric Jones—while Republican contenders split the remaining vote and failed to reach the November general election.** Post-2025 redistricting under Proposition 50 shifted the district's partisan balance further toward Democrats, producing a solid or safe Democratic rating from forecasters. Thompson's established incumbency, name recognition, and fundraising edge have reinforced trader expectations that the seat will remain in Democratic hands. With both general-election candidates from the same party, the outcome is viewed as effectively predetermined barring unforeseen events such as a major scandal, health crisis, or dramatic turnout shift that could alter the result in the final weeks before November 3, 2026.
