Jared Goff enters the 2026 season coming off four straight 4,000-yard campaigns, including 4,564 passing yards and 34 touchdowns in 17 games during a 9-8 Lions finish in 2025. The 31-year-old has shown durability and efficiency as a pocket passer, ranking near the top of the league in completions and yards per attempt under prior schemes. A restructured contract and retention of core weapons—Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Sam LaPorta—support volume, while new offensive coordinator Drew Petzing brings continuity through play-action and timing concepts drawn from prior experience. Offensive line transitions, including Penei Sewell shifting to left tackle and a rookie right tackle, introduce early uncertainty, though preseason reports noted positive chemistry. The Week 1 matchup against the Saints and a projected easier schedule could sustain attempts if Detroit stays competitive, though a more run-oriented approach or any line growing pains may moderate totals relative to recent peaks.
