Javonte Williams enters the 2026 NFL season as the Dallas Cowboys’ clear lead back and bell-cow running back after a 2025 breakout that produced 1,201 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns on 252 carries. The Cowboys re-signed him to a three-year extension in February and cleared depth-chart competition by releasing several backups while placing Malik Davis on injured reserve with a hip injury, leaving Emari Demercado as the primary change-of-pace option. Williams has no reported injuries heading into Week 1 against the Giants, whose run defense ranked among the league’s weakest a year ago, and he is expected to see heavy early-down and goal-line volume behind a capable offensive line. His 2025 efficiency and workload establish a strong baseline for another double-digit rushing touchdown campaign, though sustained health across 17 games remains the key variable.
