Kyle Monangai enters the 2026 season as the clear No. 2 running back for the Chicago Bears behind D’Andre Swift, a role that caps his early volume after he posted 783 rushing yards on 169 carries as a rookie in 2025. His Week 1 outburst of 100 rushing yards and a touchdown on just 10 carries against Carolina highlighted efficiency and big-play ability in a blowout, yet a new hamstring issue limited him in midweek practice and joins prior knee concerns from camp. Swift’s recent contract extension and the Bears’ lack of offseason additions at the position reinforce Monangai’s complementary status, with his season-long rushing total hinging on injury developments, game script, and any expanded opportunities in favorable matchups.
